Lenovo X201, Xorg, modesetting problem
This is a new model Lenovo X201 http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X201Type 3626 (Core i5).
Did a fresh installation from 2010.05-core-i686 CD with x86_64. I had the dreaded "dark screen" problem caused by kernel mode setting switching off the backlight! I can boot only with the 'nomodeset' kernel boot parameter.
The problem persists after 'pacman -Syu' 2.6.34-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMT Sat Jun 19 00:07:49 CEST 2010 x86_64. As a result I can't startx, the log says - using xf86-video-intel driver, no xorg.conf:
(II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa
(--) using VT number 7
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 00@00:02:0
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa
(EE) intel(0): no kernel modesetting driver detected
(II) UnloadModule: "intel"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration
Fatal server error:
no screens found
Obviously, I have to boot without the 'nomodeset' parameter.
How should I progress? Compiling a more recent kernel? Which version? What configuration parameters are needed?
I have an X61T, and I had a dark screen problem for the longest time. I had to guess at when the login prompt showed up and enter my username and password 'blind'. The monitor turned off halfway through the boot sequence and turned on again after I started X. Trying to turn KMS off gave the same kind of error that you got about usable configurations. Perhaps we had the same problem? If not, maybe this will help somebody else with a dysfunctional screen.
I fixed it by leaving vga=xxx out of the kernel line of my menu.lst and keeping KMS on (I think it's on by default in the default arch linux kernel). Yes, I compiled my own kernel with i915 and intel_agp, but that didn't fix the problem for me. Here's the relevant line:
kernel /vmlinuz26-x61t root=/dev/sda5 ro

Lenovo X201, xorg switching to track point
There are so many changes to the xorg configuration recently, what is the best way to switch to track point (only) on my Lenovo X201:
a) editing xorg.conf as in http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_co … rg.conf.29 or
b ) adding /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-thinkpad.conf http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_co … org.conf.d ?
My default xorg.conf has
Section "Input Device"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Drivier "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxis Mapping" "4 5 6 7"
EndSection
and the default /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf with all sorts of "catchall".
The track point is not usable, it drives the cursor mad every couple of seconds. The touch pad works, but for me it should not.
Also the upper 3-button mouse is dead, only the lower 2 buttons work, again I want it the other way. Here is my config on a T500:
root:/home/takedown # cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-trackpoint.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Trackpoint Wheel Emulation"
MatchProduct "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint|DualPoint Stick|Synaptics Inc. Composite TouchPad / TrackPoint|ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint|USB Trackpoint pointing device"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Option "EmulateWheel" "true"
Option "EmulateWheelButton" "2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
Option "XAxisMapping" "6 7"
Option "YAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
On startUp i run:
# synclient TouchpadOff=1
this script to swap between touchpad and trackpoint with Fn+F8:
root:/home/takedown # cat /etc/acpi/events/ultranav
event=ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 00001008
action=/etc/acpi/actions/ultranav.sh
root:/home/takedown # cat /etc/acpi/actions/ultranav.sh
#!/bin/bash
PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin"
export DISPLAY=:0
USER=`who | grep ':0' | grep -o '^\w*' | head -n1`
if [ `su $USER -c 'synclient -l | grep TouchpadOff | cut -b 31-32'` -ne 0 ]; then
su "$USER" -c "synclient TouchpadOff=0"
su "$USER" -c "xinput set-int-prop \"TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint\" \"Device Enabled\" 8 0"
#su "$USER" -c "/usr/bin/kdialog --passivepopup Touchpad\ enable --title Thinkpad\ T500 "5""
else
su "$USER" -c "synclient TouchpadOff=1"

Can't Access Oracle EBS with a Lenovo X201 laptop
My Company runs Oracle E-Business Suite version 11.5.10.2. I recently had to get a new laptop (Lenovo X201). I can log onto the Oracle Application Home Page and select a responsibility, but when I select an operation, like Invoice Inquiry in the Payables Module for instance, I get the following message, "This tab has been recovered. A problem with this web page has caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." The laptop is running the XP operating system and Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702. Our IT staff can't figure out the problem. They looked at all the usual cause for problems, like pop-up blockers, etc. They also spoke to Lenovo Support without finding a resolution. We experienced a similar problem with Dell laptops that they were able to resolve. Has anyone experienced this problem with a recent-vintage Lenovo computer and found a solution?
Can you find any details about the error in Apache log files and/or Sun JRE Console Window?
If the issue is reproducible, please make sure you meet the minimum requirements as per these docs.

Having trouble with the trackpad on my Lenovo X201
I'm trying ot get Arch set up on my new Lenovo X201 thinkpad and I've got as far as getting X up and running. However, I'm having some problems with the trackpad.
First of all the mouse pointer is a little crazy, leaps all over the screen and is very difficult to control - any ideas on how to improve on that? Also, I've tried following various wiki examples of how to get things working (in particular using the right side of the pad for vertical scrolling) and I'm not having much luck there...
Any advice?Never mind - it turns out that just installing synaptics fixed everything :-)

Type euro sign on Windows 7 64-bit Lenovo X201
Hi,
The subject says it all: how do I type a Euro sign on my Lenovo X201, Windows 7, 64-bit. It is a US keyboard.
I have tried Alt+4, Alt+5, Alt+e, etc, ....
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution. For others with this problem, there are a couple solutions. First you can use the ALT codes, but this requires a separate numeric keypad (not the numbers along the top of a laptop). Instructions for that are here.
With a laptop you need to use one of the alternate methods here.
Or if you are using Firefox or PaleMoon you can use this addon. The last is my favorite because it allows you to use characters from any language, including extended characters, with no need to lookup a code. Here is the Euro € and it took 2 mouse clicks.

Lenovo M92P 2992E5U Monitor problem
Just recently bought a Lenovo M92P 2992EU from amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-2992E5U-M92p-Desktop/dp/B00A2V3SV0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1375841434&sr...
When i plug my monitor to the motherboard VGA port, there's no display on the monitor. However, when i plug my monitor into the Video card's VGA port, there's display.
What's wrong with it? This is my second lenovo with the same problem. I didnt do anything to it. It is my first day using it. Also, i called Lenovo Tech Support, they remotely helped me do all of the driver update....You must enable multi-monitor support if you wish to use the internal graphics when a graphics card is installed.

Lenovo X201 external monitor resolution issue
Hi,
I'm having issues connecting my Lenovo X201 through the docking station -> display port -> Dell 3011. The native resolution for the monitor is 2560x1600. However, I currently can only set the resolution to 1920x1080 (ugly!) as any high resolution results in the monitor entering power save mode.
I'm using xrandr to set the video mode in my .xinitrc (running dwm). This creates a good Xinerama config for dwm.
I'm currently using the line
xrandr --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --above LVDS1
to set my resolution. When I change to --auto or --mode 2560x1600, or 1920x1200 etc I get the blank screen on the external monitor. I'm using the xf86-video-intel-sna driver package (I tried the -uxa as well to no avail).
Any hints?I was able to get it by having arandr help generate the config, here's the solution that worked for me:
xrandr --output HDMI1 --off --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of DP1 --output DP1 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --auto --output VGA1 --off -
Lenovo X201 Series Tablet/Laptop
Hi I recently bought a Lenovo X201 Series Laptop but the screen is cracked it has a touchscreen interface I would like to know can I replace the touchscreen with a 12.1inch LED or LCD Screen as I dont want to spend to much on a touch screen details of laptop is below
Product ID: 2985DMG
Specs:
Corei7 CPU,500GB Hard Drive 4GB Ram 12.1inch Touch screen.Hi,
there is a lot matrices are installed into x201t. Models also depend of the backlight type - LED or CCFL. I'm not sure whether any supported matrices models are compatible with your laptop. Also there are different LCD cable assembly and LCD rear cover assembly depending of the backlight type.
To ensure what matrice you have and what's compatible check out on Lenovo' site parts list of your laptop by its [laptop] serial number. Support site doesn't answer a question by MTM only.
I think it's impossible to fit non touch matrice into the tablet because of the different size (width). Compare the width of x201 and x201t.
UPD
Service parts DB says your laptop has 12.1-in. WXGA LCD panel, LED backlight (300-nit LCD), FRU 45N6092 or 45N5388.

- Comment out all the four lines: eth0, INTERFACES, gateway and ROUTES in /etc/rc.conf
- kill dhcpcd (dhcpcd -k eth0) or reboot
- do "dhclient eth0". -
Lenovo X201 and 3g dongle compatibility
Hi
Please firstly excuse my ignorance.
I have recently purchased a Lenovo X201 but am having an issue getting connected to Orange 3g using a Huawei dongle. Usually and to the best of my knowledge these setups are plug and play, but when the device is installed it doesn't recognise the hardware as a dongle but as a mass storage device.
Is it likely that the dongle needs replacing or will I have to download any other software and/or can I only use the 3g with an additional purchase of some hardware i.e. Gobi2000 (what is this and what does it do?)
Your help is appreciatedhey Jim1low,
for this you will need to check with Orange 3G, you may need to install a driver/software specific to the Huawei dongle.
this is probably the reason why the dongle is recognized as a storage device instead.

Lenovo X201 Supervisor password
Hi , ive forgot the supervisor password for my lenovo X201 , i need to reinstall windows but cannot due to the external dvd rw being in the "excluded devices" section.
I have been having a read around and so far i think my best bet is to pay for a service to remove the password on ebay.
Link removed by Moderator.
Although its not for the x201 i had a try and the board is completely different (even though he says it will work reading the comments.
I was wondering if there was any other way of doing it other than buying one of the devices that read the chip.

Lenovo doesn't solve problems in Warranty

Phone support in Romania, Service in Poland
First times in service they changed hdd and motherboard.
Now, when the issues are clearly visible they do not find anything. I am thinking that they do not want to refund since this is the third time in service and the last time.
Problem Description:
At a simple touch in different places the laptop is freezing or reset. Also the bios clock got to the default time: 01/01/2010
Movies
1. Bios reset

2. Bios reset, windows recovery menu reset, windows freezing

My next steps:
Neutral Technical Assistant

Sue Lenovo
Conclusion:
1. Phone support - I know more things than they do (I work with computers)
2. Service - unable to find a simple problem
3. Communication problem between phone support in Romania and service in Poland
4. More than 15 other people with simillar issues on models ending with 570:

STAY AWAY FROM LENOVO, IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS, THEY DO NOT HELP AND TREAT YOU LIKE A PIECE OF GARBAGE!
Moderator Note; s/n edited for member's own protectionPatternflyer,
I've very sorry to hear that this wound up being such an ordeal for you!
The way it is supposed to work, is that models sold through distribution (whether Best Buy, CDW, etc) have the 12 months plus a couple of months of "padding" added to make up for time spent in inventory in distribution. Usually a customer will have at least 12 months of time that way. The warranty starts from date of manufacture.
In some cases, it took more time to sell through than expected and the customer might have less than 12 months by the time they get it. This can be reset, as you note, with a proof of purchase showing the type and serial number of the unit.
Custom configured systems ordered direct through Lenovo are shipped directly from manufacturing, and so the warranty starts then.
I agree with many of your points and we are working toward more chat services to be available, and also more integrations when you register your system. With a direct sale, we know the customer, while in a retail scenario, we won't. Ideally the registration process will update records.
I am also optimistic that we will have greater account integration in the not too distant future - where your account registered could have credentials connected with our support site, sales, the forum and other Lenovo properties.
Best regards,
Mark

Lenovo x201 tablet laptop Integrated Webcam not working
I recently had to reinstall windows onto the Lenovo x201 tablet laptop and I can't get the integrated webcam to work on Google+. I tried downloading the integrated camera driver but during installation it stops about 3/4s of the way and the installation cancels. Not sure how to fix this , I checked under Device Manager and the camera driver is not listed under imaging devices. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks.
Hi
Welcome to the community.
As per our concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the camera driver from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?#
After that please perform the following steps.
1. Press Fn+F6 to enable the camera.
2. Click the Manage Settingsbutton. The Communications Utility window opens.
3. In the Communications Utility window, configure the camera settings depending on your individual needs.

The movies are being streamed to the tv in pan and scan rather tahn the proper 16:9 is there a setting I'm missing? I'm using boith Twonky and Win Media player and the result is the same. I have conmtacted the cable provider and all the settings are correct. So it must be the PC.
Any advice or thoughts greatly appreciated.

hi
I have a working X-desktop with awesomeWM.
problem is, my X only works without a xorg.conf, not with the Xorg -configure one or a minimalistic one.
I have an intel 4500mhd graphic device, installed xf86-video-intel and evdev input devices.
KMS, hal and dbus are all loaded and running.
I need a working .conf file to set new font paths and I want to enable my hdmi output with xrandr.
this is my xorg log file when I start X without a .conf:

edit: I just tested the VGA out with no .conf and it works, even with the correct display ratio (4:3 rather than 16:9 on my book). Tomorrow I will perhaps test the hdmi port on a friends new TV. If all works, I honestly don't care about messing around with xorg.conf ..
The font path problem is only relevant to urxvt so I will stick with xterm where extra fonts work without problem.
