Lenovo x220 wireless woes.

Hi,
The x220 has Debian 7 Stable (Wheezy). The wireless works for a while then starts to fade out and to the point where it loses connection and then comes back, then the cycle repeats. This happens at home and work. I was thinking of replacing the wireless nic, but I thought maybe the firmware needs to be upgraded so I want to try this first. I could not find the drivers/firmware for this though. Can someone please help me to find drivers/firmware, please? Also if you could offer up other suggestions to try, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
Erik

Hello Justin,
that´s sad.

What system(s) appear to be affected? Models, or model types?
What OS ?
What applications (TVTs) if applicable
Summary of the observed conditions - "what happens, when?"
GFX Driver versions, are also important.

  • Lenovo X220 and low volume [specially in Linux]

    Hi everybody,
i've googled this issue and found it affects other users, but didn't find any solution.
Problem is the audio level of my Lenovo X220 is very low, in the sense that there must be zero noise in the room to be able to hear the sound. I found the same happens in Windows, but in that case there's a workaround using some setting from the Control Panel.
I am on Chakra-Linux (but I had the same problem in Opensuse) and use pulseaudio (but the same occurred even before i switched to it).
    Any suggestion? Thanks!
    Paolo

I use VLC media player, which allows me to boost the volume beyond the 100% listed level. I believe that when I was using an Xseries, I had pulseaudio installed at the same time as VLC.

  • Lenovo x220 tablet pc with ubuntu 12.04 Shuts down and starts up unexpectedly

    Hi
I bought a lenovo x220 tablet pc and installed ubuntu 12.04 with GNOME 3 a while ago.
It was working fine at first however recently:
    1. the computer shutsdown unexpectedly, the shutdown dialog appears (the one that gives you the option of restart, cancel, or shutdown); I try to cancel it however the laptop would just power down (without going through the proper shutdown routine). Once it powers down it would try to reboot on its own but halfway during the reboot it would power down again.
    2. At times when I do shutdown normally, I would just close the lid and the computer would start back up again, without my pressing the power button (just moving the monitor makes the computer startup)
In addition I dropped the computer on the battery side at one time and cracked the plastic casing a little. The above mentioned problems still exists when I use the laptop without the battery.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding out what's wrong and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hey mate,
sorry to here about that. Here may be a path to the clearing where a possible solution is waiting: Nowadays it is standard to let the pc (or more exactly the power manager of the OS) listen to the ACPI bus for messages like power button pressed and such things. If such a message surfaces and your power manager picks it up it is possible (if you have this configured as an action) that it shuts down you computer or restarts it. To eliminate this possibility you can try one of the following to things:
    1. stop your power manager from working
    2. get yourself superuser rights and use acpi_listen to listen to the acpi bus (if not working then install "acpid", shut down your power manager and start acpid as service)
    3. open your system log (e.g. /var/log/messages) and search for things connected to your power manager or acpi
Please tell me if it worked! If not you could also post the content of your system log for analysis.
    Using x230t (i5-3320M, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 80GB mSata-SSD) and loving it!

  • Lenovo W770 Wireless Headset - Quiet Mic

Myself and others are experiencing product malfunctions with the Lenovo W770 Wireless Headset product that involve the built in microphone suddenly being rendered nearly mute as its recoring volume plumets to an incredible low, almost as if one had incorrectly reverse connected the audio in/output phone connectors, only this is a wireless USB headset, so that explaination is out the window.
If anyone has any idea how this issue can be resolved, I would gladly hear it, otherwise I'm going to have to return the headset instead and issue a negative review for the product.

I just received W770 and tried it on a PC and it worked. But when I plug the USB receiver in a macbook air (2011 MAC OS 10.6.8), it didn't work. The message I got is that MAC can't recognize the "keyboard" and asked me to press the shift button on the unrecognized keyboard- which I guess meant that the MAC treated the USB dongle as if it were a wireless keyboard of some sort. Anyway, would appreciate it if you could let me know how to make it work on MAC. The previous statement saying that it would work on any Lenovo machine regardless of OS is kinda of unclear - do you mean that it would also work on lenovo running MAC OS (is there any Lenovo running Mac OS?). Thanks.

  • Lenovo W770 Wireless Headphone Problem

Straight out of the box, the Lenovo W770 wireless headphone works with Windows Media Player. But when I play a Youtube video, not a sound comes out of it. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

I have a pair of Lenovo Headphones W770 but I lost the operating instructions. I looked on the Lenovo Website in order to download these insructions but they were not available.  I want to connect these to my PC Laptop and Ipad.

If you are using kernel 3.6.x then it's a known problem causing power regression which implies a higher temperature.

I this case I'd recommend downgrading to 3.5.x or using one of the workarounds mentioned in the above thread.
Thx very much I'll read that

  • Trying to return a defective Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard 57Y6336

I am hoping someone can help me since at this point I am completely frustrated.
I received a Mini Wireless Keyboard Friday I ordered direct from Lenovo. It turns out it is defective and phone support has been completely useless as far as I can tell. Several of the keys don't work and the trackball is so loose you have to keep a finger on it otherwise the mouse cursor doesn't stay still. I spent over an hour on the phone on Friday trying to get a RMA to do a defective return, but apparently every department I talked couldn't help me so had to transfer me to someone else. I finally spoke to someone who I thought issued a RMA, but when I got home from work today I had a message from the same person saying I need to call 877-453-6686 which is both the second and fourth number I was transfered to and they should be able to help me. At this point I am over this and just want to return this so I can get my money back.
I figured I would try on the forums since I have had no luck via the phone.

As far as I can tell there is no one at Lenovo that handles this item so I might as well put in for a credit card dispute. I tried calling several times last week and again today.
Every department I am connected to says they don't handle accessories unless it came with a PC.
I wish I had known this was how my experience would be before I bought the N5901.

  • Lenovo G400s Wireless Connection Limited Access on Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit

Just bought Lenovo G400s, install windows 7 ultimate - 32 bit on it.
It turns out the wireless network driver need to install manually, the disc driver that came with laptop was for windows 8.1. So I went to lenovo website, put on the series and download the wirelss network driver which is around 250 MB.
I installed the driver and connect to the wireless network. My office wireless was on security and use static ip. I changed the ipv4 ip static already. It connected for a while, 1-2 second then lost connection. I checked with ping to google, got 2 records of live connection which is very short. After that it try to reconnecting itself again and again with status said "Limited Access"
I search in google, read some forums about problem in different series, so I use another computer go to Intel website to download latest driver. Got it installed, but it's still the same.
I try download broadcom driver, but it's really different and doesn't work at all.
Now I don't know what to do.
    Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit
    Inter(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 135
    Driver Provider: Intel
    Driver Date: 1/26/2014
    Driver Version: 15.11.0.7
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compability Publisher
What makes it weird, although from intel website said the driver date is in 3/21/2014, and the version is 16.11.0, but this information I get from device driver was different.
    Here's the intel's website if you're wondering:
    _https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Centrino%C2%AE+Wireless-N+135#&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(32-bit)*&DownloadType=Software%20Applications
    Can anyone help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Today I want to install windows 8.1 on it, because the laptop came with windows 8.1 driver disc.
However, I try the wireless connection once again , one final try before I clean install the OS.
It turns out the internet connection is connected. Ping is quite stable, got a small drop. Nonetheless, IT'S CONNECTED!!!
I don't know what happened, I tried thousand ways yesterday and gave up. Today I don't set anything just try connecting with static IP set the ipv4 just like I did yesterday, and it connects without hassle!! is there a pc fairy or what?
The possible way I can think of is the router's internet connection's got restarted since It's a new day at office.
Despite how it solved still mystery to me, I think I mark this thread as Solved.

  • Lenovo X220 Setting SSD as Cache

    Hello Champs,
I know a bit of software & hardware but have been first time to the Caching thing so Need some Help.
I had this X220 with Window 7 but i changed it to Windows 8.1 recently.
In recent HP laptops i've seen they setup mSATA for caching for better speed from factory.
Can i setup something like that for better performance.
I know I can install windows separately on mSATA but that is only 32 GB not enough so i want the Cache type settings?
P.S. I have 32GB mSATA installed in system as Unallocated as i didnt need it.
I have read something here ANOTHER POST but couldnt get it work for myself

    Try this one http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS035460,
