Lenovo Y40, false 100% charge.

My Lenovo Y40-70 registers 100% charge left on the battery, but it will randomly shut off and/or go to 0% charge.
It is under warranty, but I would like to be able to fix this myself. What is the issue? Is it simply a defective battery. (The Lenovo I have is 9 months old)

hi Patton370,
Welcome to the Forums.
Can you download and run BatteryInfoView to get a rough info and status about the battery.

If you see a wide gap between the Full Charged Capactity and the Designed Capacity then it's likely that one of the battery cells is wearing down (it maybe due to heat, daily use, and age). In this scenario, the battery cell(s) lose the charge capacity faster than others cells.
In addition, take a note of thee battery features:
Voltage tap
Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery, but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.
Battery charge state monitor
Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.
The false 100% charge that you're getting is possibly due to the inaccurate reading of the battery charge state monitor and the sudden shutdown that you're experiencing may have triggered been triggered by the Voltage Tap (it likely detected an abnormal activity in one of the cells that's wearing out and shuts off the battery). In this case, resetting the battery guage or doing one discharge cycle won't fix the problem and a replacement battery is necessary.

  • Lenovo K 900 --Battery charge indicator always shows 100 %

A strange issue after firmware upgrade in lenovo K 900 , When I charged to 100  % , the phone always shows 100 % charge . It is not getting updated and after using for 6-7 hrs the phone gets switched off without any notice . Now I can charge again and this time the battery charge indicator shows correctly . but again the same issue is seen if the phone is charged to 100 % .

Let it die all the way down, to recalibrate the battery, and then fully recharge.  See if that helps.

  • Lenovo G500s does not charge!

    Hey folks,
im sorry, im probably in the wrong theard!
I have a problem with my new! Lenovo G500s.
When i have my charger on my notebook it doesn't charge. There is standing:"Network operating will not be charge".
The realy bad thing is, that wehn i didn't have my cable on my Notebook it lives not longer than about 15 minutes. After these 15 minutes my screen is black and i can not start my Notebook. I have to charge again, and wait over hours to start my notebook again.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!
    Felix
ps. Sorry for my bad englisch. I hope you understand what i mean.

    hi Felix,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Just to verify, when you turn off the computer and plugin the charger, can you observe the battery light indicators and see if you're able to charge the battery.

On the other hand, 15mins battery life is very low. If you have a 100% charged battery and it only last 15mins I would recommend calling Lenovo support as there's most likely a problem with the battery.

  • My battery life at a full 100% charge is about 2 hours 22 minutes (backlight and key lights at lowest level). Should I go complaining to Apple or do I just need different software?

My battery life at a full 100% charge is about 2 hours 22 minutes (backlight and key lights at lowest level). Should I go complaining to Apple or do I just need different software? I've only had my mac book since August 2011. The battery dies in 2 to 3 hours with some web surfing (little video play) and photo editing etc. I really don't feel like taking my computer all the way to the apple store to wait there for 5 hours to hear that I need to call someone blah blah blah. Any advice? (BTW Safari hasn't been working since I last updated my mac, WHYYYY?)

  • Concerns when attempting to Downgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 with Lenovo Y40-70

    Hello
I have just purchased a Lenovo Y40-70 laptop with preinstalled Windows 8.1 OS.  I am trying to figure out how to downgrade to Windows 7 with a purchased OEM disk because of the lack of support of Windows 8.1 with many of the software packages I use for work.
After doing some research, the concept of GPT vs MBR hard drive disks kept coming up.  Until receiently, I was under the impression that to downgrade to Windows 7, I would have to convert my HDD from GPT to MBR by deleting everything that was on it and reformatting it.  This concept scares me because of the possible loss of my Windows 8.1 OS.  It should be said that this laptop is completely new and no personal data or programs have been added.
Recently, I came across a support document written by Lenovo that describes how to downgrade to Windows 7 for many of the ThinkPad computer models.  The problem is that my laptop is not a ThinkPad but was associated with the referred document(http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht075596) with the use of their search wizard.
    The steps are as follows:
How to install Microsoft Windows 7 on the Windows 8-based computer:
1.Turn on the computer to start Windows 8.
2.Hold down the Windows logo key and press C to open the Charm bar on the screen.
3.Select Settings, then Power from the menu.
4.Select Reboot to restart the computer.
5.While the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message is displayed at the lower-left area or lower-center of the screen, press the F1 key. The ThinkPad Setup menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
6.Select Restart, then make sure the operating system Optimized Defaults option is set to Disabled.
7.Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
    8.Select Yes.
9.Insert the Windows 7 Installation DVD into the DVD drive, then press the F10 key to save configuration and exit.
    10.Select Yes.
11.Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.
12.Follow the instructions of Windows 7 installation DVD to install Windows 7.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there any harm that can come to my PC by trying the above steps and it not working correctly?
    2. Is there any validity to the above instructions for a Lenovo Y40-70?
    3. Am I still going to have to reformat my HDD from GPT to MBR for any of this to work? If so, what do I need to delete in "Disk Management" to reformat?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

This is probably not what you want to hear.
The answer to question one is a qualified no. If by Damage you mean physical damage, then the answer is no. If you mean by damage to the installed OS, then if it is done improperly then yes.
Question 2 I have no clue I have never tried to do what you are wanting to do.
Question 3. I think you need to read this, http://www.howtogeek.com/193669/whats-the-difference-between-gpt-and-mbr-when-partitioning-a-drive/
But I have another option for you. Have you ever thought of using a Virtual PC on the Windows 8 machine. You can run Windows 7 on Windows 8.1 and leave windows 8.1 intact. You can also install al your software on Windows 7 and run it in the virtual environment.
Also Windows 8.1 has compatibility mode just as older versions of Windows did. Have you tried installing the software in compatibility mode?

  • HT4623 Hi!My iPAD lost its charge fast !!I've got an iPAD capacity 57,1GB and it has available 55,1GB ,version 7.0.4 .I'd like to know how long does the battery last when it is 100 % charged.

Hi!I've just installed the iOS 7.0.4 operating system and the battery lost its charge at an incredibly speed.I'd like to know how long does the battery last if everything is right when it has 100% charge. Thanks!

I`m `propping` up this thread to to the top of the forums again as it`s been three months and not a single community member or Apple support personnel have replied, which I find discouraging.
I`ve tried everything - both the iOS device(s) and Apple TV have been upgraded (albeit reluctantly) to the latest versions, since iOS 7 looks like crap compared to iOS 6. Both use the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is set to `off`, as per the online tutorials on the Apple Support page.
I also tried shutting all of them down, including the router, waiting 30 seconds and turning the router, then the Apple TV then the iOS device on sequentially with 30 seconds in between each, again as per this discussion forum, and still nothing.
Why can Apple not make a technology, such as AirPlay, work with greater than 10%?
    Any other ideas?
    Come on, people.
    Thanks,
    Doug

Sounds like it may need to be replaced. Contact Apple.

  • Playbook only works with charger or USB cable despite batter showing 100% charge

After 2 years of faithful service, playbook only works with charger or USB cable despite batter showing 100% charge. As soon as the cable/charger is unplugged, it just switches off. When cable is plugged in again, and start button pressed, it reboots. I have reinstalled sftwer from scrathc via Desktop Manager, but the problem persists. I saw this problem raised in the fora several times, but never any explanation why it happens. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

A high resistance between battery lead and motherboard would allow trickle charge but not power discharge.
If you want to risk it, prise off the back of the playbook using an old credit card, locate the two screws holding on the battery lead, remove, clean up, then replace.  replace back carefully as the antennae connectors are pressure pads.

  • My ipad mini gets 100 % charged but the plug in icon doesnt always comes  out. Please help me. The icon is always the lightning bolt even though its 100 % charged already. Why?

PLease I need help. My ipad mini wont fully charge. It says 100 % charged but its still shows the lightning bolt

The plug icon will show as long as the device is connected to a power source. Yes, 100% = complete, at least where I was taught math. Your fears about destroying the battery are unfounded. You can leave the device plugged in even after it's fully charged. It will stop charging.
    Best of luck.

  • May macbook pro with retina display now tells me 6 hours remaining when 100% charged, when i first bought it it used to tell me 8 hours left.. help?

when i first bought my macbook pro with retina it used to tell me 8 hours left when it was 100% charged, now it tells me 6 hours left.. help?

This is a Fault of the newer Mac's Power management scheme. There is a LONG Thread on it somewhere on this forum.
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds then let it up. Then wait a few seconds and press it again. The system should start back up. If it doesn't then you have some type of hardware problem and you need to take it to Apple to be fixed or replaced.

  • Should I always let my iPad 3rd generation die and charge ? Takes almost close to 12 hours for a 100%  charge. Any suggestions ? iPad is over a year old

Should I always let my iPad 3rd generation die and charge ? Takes almost close to 12 hours for a 100%  charge. Any suggestions ? iPad is over a year old and don't want to buy a new one if this problem will continue to happen. Help

Do not let the battery drop to 0%. That is very damaging for a lithium based battery, as in the iPad. Charge at any time, for any amount.

  • New 12" PBook, battery 100% charged plug orange, charger very hot.  Why?

New (refurb) 12" PowerBook arrived three days ago.
This evening I noticed, for the first time, that the indicator in the menu bar indicated that the battery was 100% charged. But the plug stayed orange.
After about a hour in this condition I also noticed that the charger was extremely hot. The charger for my G3 iBook never got so hot. I unplugged the PowerBook.

  • 100% Charge?

My question is the battery indicator. I have yet to see a full charge icon (or plug icon) on my iPhone after 2 hours of charging, it's roughly showing 95%. I then turn it off fully for 1 hour, and it still only shows 95% charge. This is all done with a wall plug adapter. If memory serves me right, some of the original iPod's needed a firmware update to fix the battery indicator, could this be the case? Or is there a good majority of iPhone owners able to get 100% charge?
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
