Lenovo Y50-70 15.6 wireless issue

Dear All,
I have purchased this laptop from Amazon and I am very unhappy with the wi-fi network performance. I have already installed/reinstalled drivers, energy management, disabled adaptor, enabled, changed wifi card settings, created a new power profile, etc. etc. etc.
All my efforts have been useless and because of this I want now to change my wifi card. Please recommend another wifi card which is WHITELISTED and works properly.
I have bought a mid-to-high spec laptop and I expect to use it as per the 1000£ i have paid for it.
Please let me know what other WIFI cards are supported/accepted.

Thank You

Dear Cabbton,
Thank you for you reply.
I have also read the pages regarding the wi-fi issues and (unfortunately) I can confirm that I have the same poor network connectivity using wireless connection.
That is the reason for which I am asking OFFICIAL support from LENOVO, so I can use my brand new ~1000£ laptop as it is advertised - one of the best gaming experience.
Dear Lenovo/Lenovo support team,
I am a buyer in good faith, I have bought your product as it was advertised and I feel that I am unable to use the product as advertised because of the issues which lie in your fault (poor network connectivity) and not in my fault (wrong usage, etc).
I am unable to take full advantage of the product you sold me because of hidden defects/hidden restraints which were not brought to my attention - I mean here I cannot change the flawed wi-fi card you put into this product because of the BIOS lock you have placed and who doesn't accept other components that are not from you.
If you will not actively help me to fix this issue - the only choices you are giving me are:
-try to use a faulty product - this will frustrate me and cause a great deal of resent and unhappiness
-mod the bios and VOID my warranty (I have paid for that warranty in the price of the laptop!)
I kindly request you to take actions and provide the help I have requested in solving this issue.
Thank you in advance
George

  • Lenovo Y50 Microphone Issue

I started using my Lenovo Y50 about a month ago and have been having an ongoing problem with external microphones/headsets.The issue is that when I plug in a headset, the sound defaults to the headset's speakers, but the default microphone remains the one in my laptop. I have not been using a USB or the S/PDIF plug; just the normal audio jack. So far I have tried three pairs of headphones: A TekNmotion Yapster Blaster headset, a pair of apple earbuds with the mic attached, and finally a Razer Kraken Pro headset. Based on that, I don't think it is the fault of the headsets.Additionally, my brother got the same exact laptop at the same time, and he is experiencing this issue as well.We figured out a temporary fix:Open the sound menu, go to the "Recording" tab. For us, there are three items present: "Line In" for the Razer pro headset, "Microphone," which I assume refers to the laptop's mic, and "Stereo Mix." By setting the default device to "Microphone," then unplugging and plugging the headset back in. It will now work, but only when the "Sound" window is open. As soon as the window closes it stops working. I have tried splitting the speakers and mic, plugging in just the mic by itself, but it will only work with a combined jack. I have limited knowledge of the S/PDIF input, but from my troubleshooting experience I found that it does not work with the split mic or speakers, or combined audio jack. • ANOTHER Lenovo Y50 case defect issue and terrible customer service

I don't normally do forums but have been so infuriated by Lenovo customer service I felt obliged to sign up and share my experience.
I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 in November 2014. Within one month I noticed a small plastic part near the hinge was missing (i.e. I noticed the other side was intact and how it should look). I sent this to Lenovo for repair and received a call 5 mins ago to say this won't be repaired under warranty and that I will have to pay for it. This is absolutely outrageous and from the number of posts on this very forum it appears this is a common defect with this particular case. I asked the customer service rep if there was anything he could do and all i received was a very short blunt manuscript response, exhibiting no intention to help. I am not prepared to pay for shoddy design/workmanship and so my only option offered was to receive the laptop back unrepaired.
This is absolutely incredible that a company as big as Lenovo can treat their customers in such a fashion. Unless an administrator on this forum wishes to investigate this matter (as it's currently still with Lenovo repair centre) I certainly won't make the mistake of buying or recommending a Lenovo again.

So Lenovo/Medio have had my laptop for 20 days now. 2 weeks ago I was told they wouldn't repair it under warranty and would return it unrepaired. Still nothing. I called customer service yday who promised to investigate and get in touch. Nothing. I called again today, same response i.e. would investigate. It seems there is a huge communication problem between Lenovo and their Medion repair centre.
I am now looking into a legal resolution as surely under the sale of goods act it is illegal to retain an item for so long despite no repair actually taking place. You would also think Lenovo would have the decency to offer to repair the small damage (which I was quoted £80 for) as compensation for delay. But alas no, what Lenovo know about customer service is less than 0.
The fact a representative hasn't even bothered to respond on here is testimony to their lack of care and respect for customers.
    Yours truly

    Hi GaBI13,
You can switch on - off the wireless by pressing (airplane mode) F7 or Fn-F7. If this doesn't help you check that wireless device is present in Device Manager, is enabled and working properly (no arrows or yellow triangle present on device). If everything OK go to Control Panel-Network and Internet-Network Connections, identify the Wireless Network Connection. If this is Disabled, double click to enable it, right click and choose Connect. The driver for WiFi you can find here in case that you need.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Lenovo Y50 WiGig

I have a stock Lenovo Y50 touch, 1080p screen, GTX 860m, 8gb RAMI have the stock WiFi card in it now but have been doing some research on intel's new WiGig and wireless docking. These Dell DW1601 WiGig cards are pretty cheap and easy to come by so my question is this:1) Can I switch out the cards and will they fit? They both look like half mini PCI-e2) Are there any WiGig Lenovo drivers yet?3) If not, will it work with the Dell drivers? Thanks for your time

  • Help Lenovo Y50-70 Win 8.1 clean install

I'm new to Lenovo, Win 8 and to this forum. I'm considering buying Lenovo Y50-70 Notebook model 59441814 - Intel Core i7 4270HQ, 8GB DDR3L, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 860M 4GB, 15.6" Touchscreen, 4K UHD, USB 3.0, no DVD drive and Win 8.1 pre-installed. I also have retail MS Win 8.1 Pro "Full Version" 64 bit DVD and key. Would like to upon receipt of latptop to: (1) replace 256GB SSD with a Crucial MX200 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD, and (2) do a complete clean install using my retail 8.1. Reasons are: increased capacity and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff that Lenovo pre-installs. Since I don't have a DVD drive and I have read there are some issues with boot secure, can someone provide recommendation on sequence of steps to follow. and /or how to.
    Solved!

    hi Forest1,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you receive the Y50-70, can you try these steps:
    1. Follow this video disassembly guide on how to replace the HDD with an SSD. Alternatively, you can also watch this youtube video on how to replace the drive.
    2. If you're planning to install Windows 8.1 Pro in UEFI mode, follow this guide on how to convert the DVD installer into a USB installer. When finished, boot into the BIOS and set the following settings then hit F10 to save and exit.
        - Link to picture
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    USB Boot = Enabled
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS
When finished, boot from the USB flashdrive that you created (by tapping F12 and selecting the flashdrive on the boot manager) and you should be able to install Windows 8.1 Pro on the SSD.

  • I own photoshop elements 6 and premiere elements 4 (p/n 29180383). Just bought a Lenovo Y50-70 touch, can I purchase an upgrade?

Can photoshop elements 6 & premiere 4 be upgraded for use on a windows 8 Lenovo Y50-70 touch? The upgrade option on the Adobe site doesn't list my software version?

    Hi Rosera,
This is bad and I am sorry to hear that you are running into these issues.
Let me connect with you, so right now, the current state is that you have installed copy of PSE 8 in trial on your windows 7 machine, and when you are trying to enter the serial number from your PSE 8 Box, it is saying the serial number to be invalid?
It might sound pretty obvious, but please make sure that you are entering the serial number correctly and of PSE 8(in case you bought a PEPE box)?
Have you tried the steps mentioned below by Barbara?
If possible, you can send me the serial number through PRIVATE MESSAGE and I can check it on my end that whether the serial number is indeed invalid or that the issue is with your machine?
    Regards,
    Ankush

  • Lenovo Y50-70 screen problem

Hello. Recently, i have bought the Lenovo Y50-70 laptop and it seems that there is some screen problem. I have a feeling that it does flicker sometimes (1-2 per hour, sometimes more). Firstly, I thought that the backlight changes for a second, but then, after more observation, it might be it turning off and on immediately, or the colours fade and return to normal. I can't say for sure, what it is, because it happens very quickly, but the eye catches it anyway and it is kind of annyoing. Moreover, once the screen went completely crazy, it started to turn off and on every 2-3 seconds, big portions of view weren't even displayed, and what wasn't displayed changed every time it turned off and on. There were also green and red dots moving all over, mouse was moving in slowmotion (like I were playing a game in 15 fps). Only the restart helped and it stopped. So the question is, what is wrong and what am I supposed to do? Sorry, if the english is bad, but it isn't my native language.

I live in South Africa. Bought the notebook on 14 July 2015, within 2 weeks I started experiencing the screen flickering and grey lines. I was told by Lenovo to roll back drivers, then update drivers etc. - nothing worked. I returned the laptop to the supplier who in turn sent it to Lenovo. Lenovo has offered to replace the unit. I am hesitant to accept another unit and am thinking of rather getting a refund so that I can buy an Acer Aspire V Nitro (same specs). My previous laptop was an Acer and did not give me a day's trouble. Don't bother trying to update drivers or open the screen to plug it into the motherboard etc. I think the issue is a power supply one and that Lenovo should do a recall of this product. I am just thankful that South Africa has consumer law which forces a supplier to replace, repair or refund a defective product within 6 months from purchase if the consumer wants - so they can't simply repair, if I want a refund, they must give me one. Good luck! PS: This was my first and last Lenovo product!

  • Lenovo Y50-70 UHD WLAN grotten schlecht

  • Lenovo Y50 screen flickering?

I just received my Y50 (not ultra HD)last week on Friday and it has been running great with one small exception... I have been playing Far Cry 3 and sometimes the screen flickers? It happens very rarely but I'm not sure if this is something I should be worrying about & if it could get worse in the future. The game is on Ultra settings and runs perfect aside from these odd screen flickers.

    Hi Katiealicef,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you facing issue with display flickering in your Lenovo Y50 laptop.
As you have mentioned the display flickers while playing games, does it happens even while working on other applications?
If yes try to updaqte the graphic driver and check for the issue, also try to move the LCD back n for the nad check for the issue, try to connect the external monitor and check for the issue.

  • Two Wireless issues

Hi All, I currently have two distinct problems with my WiFi - just womndering whether anyone can shed any light. We have an old Sky Netgear broadband router - probably ten years old now, Issue 1 - We have quite a few wireless devices in the house - usually 2x smart phones, 6x tablets, and it seems that at any one time one of these will be unable to connect to the wifi - the router is visible in the list of connections, but chosen device just can't connect, it just "hangs" trying to make a connection. Usual solution is to reset router, which invariably fixes the problem device but knocks out at least one of the others. Issue 2 - Both my wife and I have work laptops, neither of which can connect to the wifi. Both connect to other wifi points just fine, but both display the same problem with ours - namely that they "see" the wifi, but when they try to connect they constantly (and I mean on a 15 second cycle) go through the process of dropping the connection then reconnecting - all the whilse saying that it is "acquire IP address".  Work IT sat that there is nothing they can do as wifi working at other locations suggests that it's router specific. Maybe a coincidence, but they are both Dell laptops - previously wife had a Lenovo and that worked on wireless just fine. Both work okay on a hard-wired connection - just getting sick of being tethered to the router. Any advice greatly appreciated!

    1. You have chained two routers. The WRT600N uses LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The Netgear is connected with the WAN port to the WRT (thus uses an 192.168.1.* address on the WAN port) and uses 192.168.0.1 by default on the LAN side. Your new E3000, however, uses the Linksys default 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side. If you connect the E3000 to the WRT600 without making any changes it won't work. A router cannot work if WAN and LAN side both use 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0. That's impossible.
    2. Thus, the quick and easy setup to get the same as before would be to change the LAN IP address of the E3000 from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. After that change you can connect the internet port of the E3000 to the WRT and everything works like before.
    3. However, in particular because you need port forwarding and you do port forwarding through two routers I would recommend not to run two routers chained. I can't see why it is necessary for you to run two routers and two separated networks. The basic setup and an explaination why a different setup may be better is here. I think in your case it would make things much simpler and you have full connectivity between all your computers. You can set up a roaming wireless network, too. The only problem is that you will "loose" one port on the E3000 because you cannot use the internet port.

  • Lenovo Y50-70 Internet Problems

Hello, regretfully I have bought a Lenovo Y50-70 today, upon setting it up the I was having major problems with the internet, it was either VERY slow or didn't load anything up at all and disconnects frequently unless I was right next to my router or directly plugged into it, when i'm plugged in there's no problems at all.
I decided to remove Windows 8.1 and install Windows 7 and i'm still facing the same problems. I've spent the whole day searching the internet for a fix but I haven't found a single thing that's worked. I've tried installing every driver I could possibly find on the website and nothings helped at all.
Here is a picture of my device manager:

    dommlb1 wrote:
I've got to be within the same wall to be connected? That's absolutely terrible, no other laptops have to do that. The signal bar mostly stays the same, sometimes it goes down one bar and disconnects every now and then.
I don't know if that other person actually meant a physical wall. If so, they do not understand wireless N and ac modes.
I see from your photo right off the bat u have some conflicts shown with the yellow ! marks. I would say first resolve that conflict.
You have a different model wifi than I do but I had to go into device manager, click on my device and I think it was under "advanced" there was an option that stated "allow system to turn off wifi". God knows why that would even be there but if you see that, try UNchecking it and see if the drop offs go away. But again, any conflicts in device manager can also affect other devices so please correct whatever those conflicts are.
Only other advice I can suggest is make sure you have an up to date driver by comparing the driver number and date in device manager for that component with the Lenovo driver download area and make sure your driver is up to date. But the wifi turning itself off problem is typically caused by that setting to allow the system to turn off the wifi.
You may find going through other driver settings that you may be on 2.4GHZ instead of the 5 GHz and maybe you need to change the channel on your router to one that is not very busy in your area. Some routers are set to auto and this can cause some devices to lose signal if the router hops channels or if it is on a channel that your neighbors also use.
I wish you the best of luck and others also have complained of "SLOW" wifi. If your card is 80211.ac capable, your router also has to be ac caable or you will only get the speed of the router.
EDITED: I re-read your original post and see that your wifi driver is stating wireless n when I believe it should be wireless ac. Maybe this is from the fact you went to Windows 7. So, perhaps go back to factory settings, try unticking the "allow to turn off" portion, set it to 5GHz instead of 2.4 GHz (gives further distance use). and if you STILL have problems, go exchange the system. These Y50 computers have bugs in my opinion. Good Luck!

  • Lenovo y50 GPU upgrade

I have a Lenovo Y50-UHD with NVidia GeForce GTX 860M 4GB Graphics Card. I want to upgrade my current GPU to NVidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB. Is it possible to do so?

As far as I am aware, the GPU is soldered onto the motherboard, so removing and replacing it would be impossible. A 960M would have issues playing at 4K anyway though, so if you play at 1080p 2GB VRAM should be plenty anyway .

  • Lenovo Y50 4k UHD white color is really warm (yellowish)

    Hi all,
I happen to have a Y50 FHD and a Y50 UHD placed side by side and I noticed the UHD produced dim and yellowish White color compared to FHD version. The panel on the UHD version is Samsung SDC4852.
I am not talking about the fiasco of "yellow being too dark" issue on previous Y50 version, although I know that this second gen Y50 UHD version that I got is SUPPOSEDLY fixed with yellow color issue.
This "warm white" color could be related to bad or insufficient back light but I don't know for sure. So anyone who owns a Lenovo Y50 UHD, please give me an input ?
