Lenovo Y50 creating loud noise

hello there!, seems i have problem with my lenovo y50, its creating wierd noise i dont know where is it coming from. here you can hear it from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ5BCoSSOGE  i already have the lastest version of bios so anyone have any idea where's this noise coming from or what is the problem? thanks!

Basically there is only two moving parts in your computer.  The hard drive or the cooling fan.  With either device that noise is not normal and would indicate to me that the device is falling.  I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for assistance in correcting the problem.

  • Help Lenovo Y50-70 Win 8.1 clean install

I'm new to Lenovo, Win 8 and to this forum. I'm considering buying Lenovo Y50-70 Notebook model 59441814 - Intel Core i7 4270HQ, 8GB DDR3L, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 860M 4GB, 15.6" Touchscreen, 4K UHD, USB 3.0, no DVD drive and Win 8.1 pre-installed. I also have retail MS Win 8.1 Pro "Full Version" 64 bit DVD and key. Would like to upon receipt of latptop to: (1) replace 256GB SSD with a Crucial MX200 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD, and (2) do a complete clean install using my retail 8.1. Reasons are: increased capacity and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff that Lenovo pre-installs. Since I don't have a DVD drive and I have read there are some issues with boot secure, can someone provide recommendation on sequence of steps to follow. and /or how to.

    hi Forest1,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you receive the Y50-70, can you try these steps:
    1. Follow this video disassembly guide on how to replace the HDD with an SSD. Alternatively, you can also watch this youtube video on how to replace the drive.
    2. If you're planning to install Windows 8.1 Pro in UEFI mode, follow this guide on how to convert the DVD installer into a USB installer. When finished, boot into the BIOS and set the following settings then hit F10 to save and exit.
        - Link to picture
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    USB Boot = Enabled
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS
When finished, boot from the USB flashdrive that you created (by tapping F12 and selecting the flashdrive on the boot manager) and you should be able to install Windows 8.1 Pro on the SSD.

  • How do I level the volume in a piece of music without creating white noise during silent/quiet parts

It's actually the original Star Wars trilogy soundtrack. The volume swings by 25 db or more, even during the same track. You can't listen to it without riding the volume knob. That's not hyperbole, you actually cannot hear parts of it if the loud parts are at a safe volume. It's not a bootleg copy or anything; I bought the CD's. Pathetic that they haven't already done what I'm trying to do, if you ask me.
Raising the volume of my sterio doesn't create white noise, so it seems like I should be able to duplicate the effect somehow, probably with some kind of dynamics processing. Classic Soft Knee, for example, has the white noise problem. When I used it in the talk radio business, it would also amplify the speaker's breaths. I've fiddled with it and tried to come up with my own settings without success. Maybe I need a different tool entirely?
I'm doing this for my son. He's 5 and loves Star Wars and loves listening to the music in the car wherever we go. Thank you for any help you can give!

My first, only slightly tongue-in-cheek reaction is to say, well done to the manufacturers of the CD!!  To actually allow the "full" dynamic range of the original to be released on CD!!
Sorry, I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but it is such a pleasant change that I couldn't resist commenting on the fact that the CD manufacturer actually does NOT want to "homogenise" the dynamic levels.  However, I realise this does create a problem for you in the circumstances of wishing to play the CD in your car.
You are correct, IMO, to be looking at the use of compression to reduce that dynamic range, though your talk of "white noise" is concerning.  Certainly the effect of compression is to reduce the dynamic range by, as it were, "decreasing the level of the loudest and increasing the level of the quietest parts"; there is a danger that increasing those quietest parts COULD increase the "noise" but I suspect the CD was recorded in pretty near "ideal" conditions, i.e. the noise floor was so far below the quietest signal that raising the level of that signal will minimally increase "noise", if at all.

  • Lenovo Y50-70 15.6 wireless issue

    Dear All,
I have purchased this laptop from Amazon and I am very unhappy with the wi-fi network performance. I have already installed/reinstalled drivers, energy management, disabled adaptor, enabled, changed wifi card settings, created a new power profile, etc. etc. etc.
All my efforts have been useless and because of this I want now to change my wifi card. Please recommend another wifi card which is WHITELISTED and works properly.
I have bought a mid-to-high spec laptop and I expect to use it as per the 1000£ i have paid for it.
Please let me know what other WIFI cards are supported/accepted.

    Dear Cabbton,
    Thank you for you reply.
I have also read the pages regarding the wi-fi issues and (unfortunately) I can confirm that I have the same poor network connectivity using wireless connection.
That is the reason for which I am asking OFFICIAL support from LENOVO, so I can use my brand new ~1000£ laptop as it is advertised - one of the best gaming experience.
    Dear Lenovo/Lenovo support team,
I am a buyer in good faith, I have bought your product as it was advertised and I feel that I am unable to use the product as advertised because of the issues which lie in your fault (poor network connectivity) and not in my fault (wrong usage, etc).
I am unable to take full advantage of the product you sold me because of hidden defects/hidden restraints which were not brought to my attention - I mean here I cannot change the flawed wi-fi card you put into this product because of the BIOS lock you have placed and who doesn't accept other components that are not from you.
If you will not actively help me to fix this issue - the only choices you are giving me are:
-try to use a faulty product - this will frustrate me and cause a great deal of resent and unhappiness
-mod the bios and VOID my warranty (I have paid for that warranty in the price of the laptop!)
I kindly request you to take actions and provide the help I have requested in solving this issue.
    Thank you in advance
    George

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

    Hi GaBI13,
You can switch on - off the wireless by pressing (airplane mode) F7 or Fn-F7. If this doesn't help you check that wireless device is present in Device Manager, is enabled and working properly (no arrows or yellow triangle present on device). If everything OK go to Control Panel-Network and Internet-Network Connections, identify the Wireless Network Connection. If this is Disabled, double click to enable it, right click and choose Connect. The driver for WiFi you can find here in case that you need.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while. The fan no longer works at all and my computer gets exceptionally hot almost instantly when I turn it on. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

  • Hard Drive is making a loud noise on my laptop! Help!

    Hello,
I have owned my hp envy 17 laptop for almost 2 years now. Recently my computer has been making a really loud noise and it seems it is working a lot harder than it needs to be. I suspect the fan or the hard drive is the culprit but I have convinced myself it is the hard drive.
When I start up my computer the loud noise begins almost immediately after startup. This noise sounds like the computer is working as hard as it possibly can, almost making a grinding noise. Even after the computer has booted up, this noise continues for another minute or two before it stops, then my laptop becomes quiet. What puzzles me, and leads me to believe it is the hard drive, is the fact my computer get unreasonably hot when the noise occurs; it never used to do this before.
This is not what confuses and annoys me the most, it is the sound reoccurring again. This situation is something I have never heard of before. My laptop for some reason ,when it is moved or bumped, even the slightest, start to "rev" and the hard drive roars; it does this for five minutes or so. It also does this when the laptop is closed, and in "sleep mode"; the slightest bump lets it off like a baby. I suspect that there is a switch, flap or wire that is not attached properly and when moved it triggers the hard drive.
I have found a few small solutions to this problem. The main thing I do when the sound occurs is I close the laptop lid which puts it in sleep mode and turns off the hard drive, silencing it for the time being. This solution I came across by accident; I turned my laptop sideways when the sound occurs and the sound stops until I put the laptop upright again(Laptop is open).
I would like to hear your thoughts on this, a solution you might of have encountered or any explanation of the cause; also explain any costs. I have partially opened up my laptop and it looks in order to me with the dust at a minimum. I'd rather check online for a solution first before bringing it to a computer repair shop which, i'm willing to do as a last resort.
    Sincerely,
    Greg

Without hearing the sound it is hard to judge but it does not sound like a hard drive from your description. Hard drive noise is usually a rhythmic "click" not a sustained "whirr". That kind of noise comes from a cooling fan. We can test the hard drive in the BIOS. Tap F2 as you power up to enter UEFI diagnostics and look for the hard drive test. If you do not have UEFI diagnostics (i.e. your laptop came with Windows 7 not Windows 8) then tap F10 and look for a hard drive diagnostic in the old-school BIOS interface.
The Envy 17 series tends to run hot and cooling fan issues are not uncommon. Sometimes it can be fixed by self-help such as blowing out the fan with compressed air. If it is the fan, the replacement fan is not too expensive but labor might run $80-150 for replacing the fan. Post back with any questions.
If you are going to post back please give us your full model number found on the bottom of the laptop or in the battery bay.

  • Hi my late 2008 model Mac Book Pro has gotten really slow and has made a loud noise twice in the last month.

My Macbook is not acting right it has gotten very sluggish online and has made a really loud buzz or screaching sound twice  in the last month.  The first time I was just on the internet and it wouldn't quit making the loud noise until I turned it off and back on.  This last time it made it while restarting it or was in the process of restarting from updating and while it was still a black screen it made that noise but stoped on its own this time.  I have no idea what to check in Macs or where to looks for errors or problems.  If someone could please direct me in what I can check to see if there is any info on what may be problemactic on my computer.  Thank you. Laurie

Also the link you profided is this what the update to 10.6 will provide?  I really didn't understand the tech language so I didn't understand what it was telling me.  I am sorry to be so inept on this.  I just had to have the battery replaced about a month ago and while in the store I was asking the tech to check all the error messages and make sure everything was OK because I had no clue what they meant or if I had any problems.  I just use it I guess you would say.  The tech said I didn't need to worry about any of that stuff that Mac's don't get viruses and I was fine.  Well that didn't answer checking for hardware problems or anything like that but he didn't have anything else to say about it.

  • ANOTHER Lenovo Y50 case defect issue and terrible customer service

I don't normally do forums but have been so infuriated by Lenovo customer service I felt obliged to sign up and share my experience.
I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 in November 2014. Within one month I noticed a small plastic part near the hinge was missing (i.e. I noticed the other side was intact and how it should look). I sent this to Lenovo for repair and received a call 5 mins ago to say this won't be repaired under warranty and that I will have to pay for it. This is absolutely outrageous and from the number of posts on this very forum it appears this is a common defect with this particular case. I asked the customer service rep if there was anything he could do and all i received was a very short blunt manuscript response, exhibiting no intention to help. I am not prepared to pay for shoddy design/workmanship and so my only option offered was to receive the laptop back unrepaired.
This is absolutely incredible that a company as big as Lenovo can treat their customers in such a fashion. Unless an administrator on this forum wishes to investigate this matter (as it's currently still with Lenovo repair centre) I certainly won't make the mistake of buying or recommending a Lenovo again.

So Lenovo/Medio have had my laptop for 20 days now. 2 weeks ago I was told they wouldn't repair it under warranty and would return it unrepaired. Still nothing. I called customer service yday who promised to investigate and get in touch. Nothing. I called again today, same response i.e. would investigate. It seems there is a huge communication problem between Lenovo and their Medion repair centre.
I am now looking into a legal resolution as surely under the sale of goods act it is illegal to retain an item for so long despite no repair actually taking place. You would also think Lenovo would have the decency to offer to repair the small damage (which I was quoted £80 for) as compensation for delay. But alas no, what Lenovo know about customer service is less than 0.
The fact a representative hasn't even bothered to respond on here is testimony to their lack of care and respect for customers.

  • 10.4.10 vers 1.1 | Loud noise and Hum on speakers thru' USB Audio Interface

After doing this update all of a sudden my Mbox2 produces loud noise and Hum on my attached speaker when hooking up the power adapter to my MbookPro or adding a second display... I can virtually hear when the computer is computing thru' the speakers... This noise thing adds up the more equipment I hook up...
Does anyone know what this could be....???

This can happen if the software is "allowing"
more power to be accessed by the USB ports..
This isn't quite accurate. USB devices can ask for power, up to 2.5 watts (500 ma @ 5 volts), from a USB port. Software can query the device for its power requirements & shut down the power to it (& warn you it is doing so) if it exceeds that limit. However, the hardware in Macs themselves (& essentially all other computers) also have a number of power limiting circuits, independent of the OS software, that make it just about impossible for the software to "allow" more power than this to be drawn from the port. (If they didn't, they would not meet most of the world's safety codes.)
Moreover, if your USB speakers (or any other USB device) requires more than 2.5 watts, it would never have been bus powered under any version of the OS, assuming it meets USB standards (IOW, displays an official USB logo & is not itself defective).
If the technician is telling you something different, it might be a good idea to find a more qualified one, or at least get a second opinion.

  • Macbook pro won't turn, and make loud noises

When I was watching a video on my 15inch macbook pro, the screen suddenly turned black and made the click sound that is usually only present in forced shut down.
I then press the power button once, and nothing happened except for another "click" sound as I pressed the power button.
I tried pressing the power button again, and again, the same thing just kept on happening.
Then I pressed the power button down and held it for 5-10 seconds and heard multiple click sounds. After that, my macbook pro successfully turned on.
However, the noise (supposedly from the cooling fans?) kept getting louder and louder. My macbook pro now functions rather normally, but the noise would never go away, which worries me a lot.
Also, I turned it off and tried turning it on again. The same thing happened. I could not turn it on by pressing it once; all i heard was the click sounds. I could only turn it on by holding the power button for more than 5 seconds (also hearing the click sounds multiple times and the loud noise)
Is there something seriously wrong wtih my macbook pro?
and can I make it so I can turn it on normally and not hear the loud noises?
    thanks

  • Macbook Pro makes a very loud noise as soon as i turn it on

hi there im having an issue and i was wondering if someone could help me.. basically i only just bought my macbook pro about a week ago and my issue is that every time i turn it on it makes a really LOUD noise which is so irritating! and i know its not normal cause i have a friend with a macbook pro and his doesn't do that the noise he has is very low.. i was wondering if someone could help me out?

You might try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test (on one of your gray system discs) and see if you get anything in the nature of an error code which would point to the cause of the noise.
Also, download iStatPro and use it to check your fan speed. If it is 6000 RPM or so, that is likely the cause of the noise. Fans normally idle silently at 2000 RPM, so 6000 RPM would not be normal.
Also, if the noise is the fan, open Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" at the top and "CPU" on the bottom. Look for a rogue process which is consuming an inordinate amount of the CPU.
If the fans are at 2000 RPM, there is a high possibility that the noise is coming from your hard drive. If so, back up everything immediately and contact Apple about a repair or replacement. Since your Mac is just a week old, you may be able to exchange it for a new one if there is a hardware problem with it.
    Good luck!

  • Toshiba A505 Loud cd/dvd player loud noise!!!

I bought a A505-S6005 about 3 months ago. Everything works great but just yesterday i put a dvd in the drive and it started making a loud sound. It vibrates real bad and the fan makes a loud noise too. It finally stop making noise then as soon as it would read it again the noise would come back. It does that with every cd or dvd. The laptop came with a One year warranty but i lost the paper and the receipt. I still have the box and stuff. I was wondering if i could still return it ? Thanx

I would not rule out the possibility of it being defective, you really should get that looked at. Unless a Best Buy employee says otherwise, I think if you purchased your laptop directly from Best Buy, I think they can send out your Toshiba Laptop on your behalf to the manufacturer for warranty repair.

  • IMAC freezing, hang during startup, loud noise coming out from the speaker

I am using the iMAC i3 Intel based which i bought it just a month ago
Last week it hang, freeze just like that without me launch any application just yet
I hold the ON button for a restart, and it freeze during the startup
One more thing, sometimes when it freeze, there's a noise coming out from the speaker ( just like there is no signal from the TV )
Already sent it to the Apple Service Center but they tell me it is free from any error, but by the time i bring it back home, not even 12 hours, it freeze again just like that with loud noises coming out from the speaker.
Btw did i mention, sometimes there's also a screen distortion
    Please somebody help me

I've experienced similar symptoms to the original poster's description. I have an iMac 27" 2010 model. This may be related to the following:
I've looked on numerous forums regarding the freezing problem I was having. This problem would arise on a wide range of systems.
Symptoms included but were not all always present - usually when I am loading the system with games/heavy load processes:
    - Full system freeze, screen still on.
    - Loud cracking noise coming from speakers (relative to what volume was at when the freeze happened).
    - Computer asleep but I cannot wake up unless hard reset with power button.
    - My screen backlight was also damaged (permanently dimmed) near the left side, and progressively got worse over time. This was fixed (replaced LCD 27" display $600+ and covered by my creditcard extended warranty)
Basically, what I've come to realize which has not been well documented as far as I could find relating to this problem - is that the system is overheating and causing these freezing errors (and LCD damage in my case). Prologned occurances could result in different system part failures.
How do you fix the overheating problem? Give this a try, it's worked so far for me and I've actually been able to continue video/photo editing without having this annoying freeze.
Search for and download 'iStat Pro' (widget addon that lets you monitor your system temperatures... compare it before and after the fix)
Search for and download 'SMCFanControl (a great little app that allows you to change your system fan speeds) - I did not know this was possible, and have never heard the fans go this high when it was being run automatically by the system. The fan's are obviously louder when set to max, but is well worth the system cooling results.
