Lenovo Z500 Intel Graphics and Function Keys problem on Windows 10

Hi.i have a problem with Windows 10 upgrade. My Model Is Lenovo Z500.  6Gb Ram.  Intel 3230m.  Nvidia GT740m.Since the upgrade to Windows 10 the brightness is at full and i cant dim it,it's always the same.and there are two more problems.second one is my shortcut function keys(Fn + F buttons) don't work :bluetooth, touchpad, turn off screen, refresh etc... .Only buttons that work are for volume and for brightness that dont do anything when i try to lower it down but it shows in upper left corner that the keys are responding. And the third problem is i cant duplicate my display but only can extend .As far for the other stuff everything is smooth and fast.even my games got bigger FPS, for example "Counter Strike Global Offensive". I would like to know if there is fix for brightness and for duplicate screen problem regarding graphics driver, and for my function keys regarding keyboard. Thanks and  i hope for quick response. I know Windows 10 just came out and i know you are at full capacitity for solving everyone's problem but i hope you'll look into this because i'm not the only one with this problems.

Hi phitbull,
Are all the hotkeys on your SL500 not working, or they are simply not displaying the controls on-screen? (ie. increase, decrease or mute will display on screen). It may be possible that you are missing out on some drivers for your system. If you look around the forums, there are many posts on users experiencing hotkey issues, mainly due to missing pre-requisite drivers. You can find a handful of drivers in the Lenovo Support website's Windows 7 BETA page at the following URL:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA
Perhaps you can give this a try:
1. Install the Lenovo System Interface Driver (v1.01):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA#sid
2. Install the Hotkey drivers (which installs OnScreen Display v5.32.00 and ThinkPad FulLScreen Magnifier v2.07)
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA#atkh
Hope the above helps with your issues.

  • Macbook 11" Screen and Function Key problems.

Hi, I got a refurbished late 2010 Macbook Air from the Apple Store. Its the 11'6" 64GB version.
The MBA turned up this morning and was working fine. I shut it down and went out for a while. Upon rebooting, I noticed there was no sound (and no sound icon near the clock) and the function keys (brightness, volume, etc) were not working. So, rebooted to see if that would solve the problem and was then greeted with a display that wouldn't work. After the white bootup screen, the screen goes black. Not black as in no power, it looks backlit but appears as if the screen brightness is on 0 and can't be altered.
I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, which didn't help. Phoned Apple, who said reset PRAM and SMC. I've got a genius appointment tomorrow but I wondered if there was anything else I could try in the meantime.
    Thanks

You should take it back and ask them for a new one. It has a lot of issues.

  • [SOLVED] Function Keys Problem On Dell Inspiron N5010

Yesterday I bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron N5010) and immediately installed Arch Linux on it. But when I launched the installation framework, I needed to use fdisk to partition my drive manually and to open another tty, ctrl + alt + f2 or up to f7, none of them worked. When I use f4 or f5 for example, it changes the brightness of the screen cause these keys have icons on them which represent the brightness control. So I quitted, took care of that fdisk issue and got back, installed Arch Linux successfully. When launched in GNOME 3, nothing was changed. It still uses f1, f2, ... and so on as "just function keys" without using "Fn" key. It's fine somehow cause my system automatically detected those keys, I can use every single function of my keyboard. But without using Fn key, I can't actually use any fx key for my own use. For example, I can't use Tilda anymore cause when I use only f1, it tries to open monitor control stuff.
    So... any ideas?
Edit: It seems that this problem is all about Arch Linux. A friend of mine has the same laptop and he has just tried Mint Debian RC and function keys worked properly. So, there's a problem and it seems it's related to Arch Linux (or maybe Xorg version, somehow?).

xdunlapx wrote:The function key on my dell laptop was set to the F keys, meaning you have to hit the function key and then an F key to activate the F key. I switched it in the bios so I don't have to hit the function key to activate the F keys. So I would have had to hit Fn+Ctrl-Alt-F1 for example to get to TTY 1. Now since i switched it off in the bios All I have to do is hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to the terminal. But in order to turn off wifi from the F key (for example) I have to hit Fn+F2. It's switched.
I can't tell you how this was helpful. I've never noticed that there was an option in BIOS's Advanced menu for this. I updated it as "Function Key" and it solved my problem, thanks.

  • How can the symbol and non-English diacritical marking, etc accessed with combinations of letters and functional keys prior to Snow Leopard be achieved in Snow Leopard?

How can the symbol and non-English diacritical marking/punctuation pallet, available in pre-Snow Leopard OSes with various combinations of letter or number keys and functional keys, be accessed in Snow Leopard?  Those pre-Snow Leopard versions worked on the fly as one was making text in any pedestrian application and its native font (Mail, Text Edit, for example).  One didn't need to dig around in font libraries, change font preferences, etc.

    > One didn't need to dig around in font libraries, change font
    > preferences, etc.
It hasn't worked like that since the Early Chalcolithic (ie, System 7 or thereabouts).
You've already got plenty of answers. Briefly (and grossly oversimplified),
    - Mac OS X conforms to a standard known as Unicode; in its current incarnation, it defines over 100k characters.
    - A keypress is translated into a character according to the current keyboard layout.
    - The graphic representation of a character (ie, glyph), is provided by the current font.
    - If a font lacks a glyph for the requested character, either another font will be automatically chosen (Mac OS X text engine), or some form of feedback (empty box, question mark, etc) will be used.
    - To inspect the actual key codes, use a utility such as Key Codes.
    - To inspect the current keyboard layout, invoke Keyboard Viewer.
    - To inspect the full complement of glyphs of a font, invoke Character Viewer (also accessed with the Special Characters command).
(Remember that both these utilities are resizable and zoomable -- you can enlarge them to a comfortable viewing size, then zoom out to see more of the screen for your original task.)
    - For a more detailed look, use a utility such as UnicodeChecker.
    - The default keyboard layout depends on your Mac OS X localisation.
(Keep in mind that there's no need to stick with the default layout; choose whichever one makes sense to you, given your language, habits, and proclivities. Mac OS X comes bundled with quite a few, including some obviously designed for the huddled masses of refugees from the Dark Side, who, in their wretched ignorance, have the unmitigated gall of labelling our native ways "really uncomfortable". Oh well, this, too, shall pass.
If none of the supplied keyboard layouts fits your needs -- if, for instance, you write your emails in Etruscan -- go out on the 'net, you'll find quite a few. Or write your own with Ukulele, it's not really all that difficult.)
    - Use Keyboard Viewer to familiarise yourself with the current layout and to enter the odd character; but, to be proficient, you should learn your layout to the point that KV is no longer needed.
    - Use Character Viewer to enter the odd character not available in the current keyboard layout.
Neither Keyboard Viewer nor Character Viewer are effective tools for more extensive needs, eg, for writing and editing bilingual or multilingual texts. In such a case, you should enable the respective keyboard layouts and switch between them with a keyboard shortcut.
A few interesting layouts bundled with Mac OS X have already been mentioned. Let me add three.
    - Dvorak: several layouts based on the Dvorak keyboard. It is claimed that the latter is more productive and lessens RSI risk.
    - US Extended: based on QWERTY, it offers a more extensive set of diacritics (eg, caron, breve) via dead keys.
    - Unicode Hex Input: also based QWERTY, it allows input by Unicode codepoint (in hexadecimal), so it's the most extensive layout of all; eg, to enter the character "Parenthesized Number Twelve" (U+247F), hold down Option, type "247f", release Option.

  • Map Function Keys on a Windows Keyboard

Is there a way I can map/edit the function keys on my Windows keyboard? I want to create a quick shortcut to assign one of my function keys to be able to move a file to the trash can.

Nevermind. The keyboard shortcut menu in preferences works. The problem was that I typed "Move to trash" instead of "Move to Trash"

  • Can we create graphic and text in the same window of smartform without using template?

we create graphic and text in the same window of smartform without using template?

    Hi Kinjal,
as far as i understand you are talking about a template which you can partitioned and in one part you wants to show your graphics and in other part you wants to print your text, the border of template shall remain invisible.
If you wants to do it without using a template, you can do it as sujjested by Susmitha, but creating a template will provide you more flexibility that if you wants to change the attributes in future you can do it easily.

  • Windows 7 Brightness and Function key not Working Properly

i have problem in Display Brightness i am not able to change Brightness by function key or by manually from windows settings.
    2. my Function key are not working properly . all key are fliped whiout holding function key it work as function key. 3. bluetooth is not working when i search for new device not able to find any available discouable bluetooth device. 4. wireless button software is not wokring in windows 7 i already updated my bios that available in drivers support and install alll drivers too properly so please give proper drivers for windows 7 for this product that works perfect.

Sorry that driver didn't work. You can try this graphics driver and if that doesn't work, unfortunately, I won't be able to help you with that issue. This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp71253.exe As far as the Fn keys being 'flipped,' I have no idea what you mean by that, or what to do about it. Did you install the software that controls the funtion keys? This package contains the HP System Event Utility, which enables special function keys on supported notebook models to be programmed. For example, HP System Event Utility enables users to press the Fn+ESC keys to view system information. This software works with the supported operating systems. File name: sp71156.exe

  • CS 4 custom shortcuts and function keys with apple extended keyboard

    Hi all,
the F-Keys from F1 to F12 work fine, but F13 to F16 get entered as F3 (F17 to F19 do not get recognized at all).
Has to be an Illustrator CS4 problem since they are recognized in InDesign or Photoshop CS4 (except the F17 and up).
    Anyone can help?
And yes, I tried using all as standard function keys ;-)
MacPro 2x 2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon, 10.5.5

I just got the new keyboard today I have the same issue... have you had any luck in finding a work around?  I just got off the phone with tech support and they told me that it is a known issue and to wait for an update be either Adobe or Apple.  It is not an Apple problem, it is an Adobe problem.
For the time being, I have just made it so that I have to hit the "fn" (function) key in order to control the media options on the F-Keys.  This seems to work for now since I use shortcuts on those keys more than the media options.

  • I need an option to remap reprogram or swap the ctrl and function keys on my laptop

    Open letter to Lenovo
How many Lenovo laptop users does it take to get a change or option added to remap, reassign, reprogram or swap the two keys on the lower left of the keybards with each other?
The number one question I'm asked (and the first question I asked of a lenovo laptop user) was how long did it take to get used to the function key being in the wrong place on the keyboard?  I did a search on the web and found a number of threads that discussed and talked about if it were possible to switch those two keys on the keyboard such as this: http://www.ashbaughonline.com/2006/08/12/thinkpad-fn-ctrl-key/   The point being is there are many lenovo laptop users that would love to have the option at least of swapping the function and ctrl key location on the keyboard and we wouldn't even complain that the key names were wrong afterwards if it were made available in some BIOS or other configuration setting.
Lenovo, how many users would need to ask for this option to make it happen?
Please add me to those who would like to see this happen and to anyone else please reply and chime in.

I have the same problem, and I really can't understand why do they do such things! I even can't get a normal answer from Lenovo about it. I like Thinkpads, they are great designed & they have a lot of unique features, most of them could be customized, exept this! Why??? I can't belive that it's so hard to remap 2 buttons using BIOS! The problem is that the FN key doesn't generate a scan code, which could be recognized by the software, i tried numerous programs to remap the FN button, but it's useless. You can do it only in 2 ways: 1. mechanical - to swap them fisically, but it's hard, dangerous & the warranty will be lost of course. 2. BIOS remapping which can be done only by Lenovo or maybe by somobody, who can hack the BIOS. So, Dear Lenovo Experts PLEASE do this feature for us, we REALLY neeed it! We need it much more than "keyboard customizer", more than "easy eject", more than "media center" becouse we use the left CTRL button every minute, working on your notebook!

  • Buttons and enter key problem

    hello,
there are a few projects of enterprise quality which I am developing in java swing. I found out through research that many or rather most people involved with java believe that swing is ready for enterprise class robust desktop applications.
so I as the team leador am starting my new projects in java swing.
I personally find that the amount of java libraries present provide a rich set of functionality and it gives big mussle power to the developers.
I am only concerned about one problem which many of you might have solved.
I find that I have to hit the space bar instead of enter key to fire an action. in languages like vb I can press enter key to fire the click events. specially in menu items I certainly don't expect my clients to press the spacebar. besides there are many people who are so used to the keyboard and enter key in particular that it will be hard or rather next to impossible to change their habbits.
how can I make the menu items work with the enter key. I mean do I need to create the code for keypress events every time I also create an action performed method? or is there a way where I can do it without extra coding.
it is just that I don't want to right extra code for enter key along with click events.
    one more important note.
I am a blind person and I use the access bridge technology of java.
so when I am involved in coding, I use the same.
so may be my problem isn't a problem in the first place.
    kindly provide me some help
    thanks
    Krishnakant.

The enter-key works on menu-items in all my applications. It did so since I started with java few years ago.
Maybe some other problem (OS-specific) ?

There is no problem with your graphics or screen.
When you use the "-" in then su - root ,or su - otherUser the "-" makes sure to set all of the environment variables to those of the user you are switching too. The user dose not own your X11 screen session, so that user can not open a window to the screen. This is a Security messure, to prevent some attacks, i.e. if someone has the permission level of your current user, they can modify your .profile or .bashrc and input an alias like...,
    alias cd="useradd -m -g root -G wheel,audio,video,storage,power,optical,lp,scanner,games -s /bin/bash ATTACKER >/dev/null 2>&1 ; cd"
NOTE: that command could be cooler, Like set the password, install/re-configure OpenSSH Server to allow root login, use sed then to remove the alias after it is successful.... I'm going to bed now though, so I don't have the time to flesh it out.
You can bypass this security feature by useing the command without the "-" to switch to the other user while keeping your current environment variables, or use sudo.

  • Intel Graphics and xrandr commands at startup

Hi all, I am new at Arch.  I'm trying to setup a P4 computer as a media player.  It is hooked up to 40" LCD panel.  The computer has Intel 845 graphics and no open PCI slots, so I am stuck with using the onboard graphics for the resolution I want.  I was able to do this with Ubuntu/Gnome by adding these lines to /etc/gdm/init.d/default
    xrandr --newmode "1920x1080" 148.5 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1089 1095 1125 +hsync +vsync
    xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1080
    xrandr --output VGA1 --mode  1920x1080
That solved the problem, I got a great picture but the OS with Gnome was hogging all my memory.  I've tried lighter distros but, if I run this as an executable script after the window manager loads, the screen doesn't render properly.  I've only been able to get Gnome or XFCE to work properly.  With XFCE, I ran it as a shell script in the autostart applications.
My question is, where is the best place to run these commands in the Arch startup sequence?  If I get this to run at the proper time, should I be able to use LXDE or E17?

I think Intel drivers need KMS and KMS doesn't like video= or vga= options in the kernel line.
The video= option is kernel mode setting, you can use it to do stuff like really disable the LCD on a laptop when you're using an external monitor - xrandr only works in Xorg and the connector will probably still be powered on.
You can use video= to use a framebuffer (similar to vga=), and that would probably break any KMS driver because you're trying to use two at once.
Best source a quick google can find (go down to forcing modes):

It looks like this unit has not yet been certified for Windows 8.  Review this site to see what to expect when upgrading to Windows 8.  Click on More Information at the bottom to get a more detailed list and to have the option to see if HP has tested the unit for Windows 8.
Make sure to install the Windows 8 HP Software Framwork found here.
There is a chance that some functions simply will not work.  Since the unit has not been certified for Windows 8 and does not have Windows 8 drivers from HP, the Windows 7 drivers and software may need to be reinstalled using compatibility mode.  Review my post located here for the method that seems to have the most success.  The key to install HP software with compatibility mode is to let the extraction complete and then navigate to the real software installer in the extracted folder.
I recommend reinstalling the newest driver for each component in compatibility mode as outlined in the linked post.  Here is the software page for your unit.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Fans run at 6000RPM constantly and Function keys are misassigned

OK here's the story: I've got a 17" Core 2 Duo MBP that I replaced the top case (keeping the original keyboard) and hard drive in. Now the fans run at a constant 6000 RPM despite what I have Fan Control tell them to do. In addition, the function keys are misassigned - the keyboard is labeled with volume control on f3-f6 and keyboard brightness at f8-f10, but f10-f12 actually control volume and f5 and f6 control the screen brightness (it appears it still thinks I have the 110 key USB KB plugged in since it's following that layout).
I've tried resetting the SMC and applying the SMC firmware update with no luck (the firmware updater tells me I don't need it and I can't find a way to force it). There are no processes hogging CPU, and I've disabled indexing just to be sure. The fans will run at 2700 or so for the first few minutes, but as soon as the temp hits about 104F they go max and don't slow down until I shut it down or put it to sleep. I'm using a drive image from a black MacBook so I suspect my OS install is confused about what hardware is actually present, but before I do a clean wipe and restore I'd like to know if anyone has any other ideas. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The fans run at maximum if either a) the cable has been left off the temperature sensor or b) the sensor is bust - I'd guess you didn't remake the connection or it's come off during re-assembly.
    +a drive image from a black MacBook+
That's a mistake, you should only install and use the OS that came on the install DVD with your MacBook Pro, there are significant differences in the software ...
