Lens Correction Applied Twice?

I am shooting in camera raw plus JPEG with a Sony Nex 6.  Several lens correction features are enabled.  Are they being applied to the raw file by the camera?  The reason I wonder is that the manual usually specifies under what conditions each feature does not apply and for the lens correction features, there is no mention of raw mode.

To be more clear: I want to understand what my camera is doing so I don't apply the correction in the camera and in LR5 to the raw file.

  • Lens Correction Batch Application Not Working

Using LR3, I can set the lens correction then go to 'Develop Settings/Copy Settings' and the option is there for lens correction (I check all of the boxes under lens correction).  If I paste the settings to just one photo, the lens correction applies.  However, if I select multiple images to apply it to, it only applies it to the first image.  So now my fingers are worn out from applying it manually 275 times (with ctrl/shift/v then right arrow, repeat).
Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.
    TIA!!!

Thank you for the helpful suggestion Hamish!  I will keep that in mind as an option.
I did find a way to make the batch changes.
    1.  Click on the photo that you want to copy the settings from, then click the 'Copy' button.  A dialogue box will pop up to let you select what attributes you want to copy.  Select the attributes then click on copy in the dialogue box.
    2.  Highlight all of the other photos in the filmstrip that you want to apply these attributes to.  Be sure to include the photo you used to copy the attributes from, or this will not work.
    3.  Click the Sync button.

  • Lens Correction For Nikon 24-120

I use this lens as a periodic walk around lens. As it does not show up in LightRoom 3 Lens Correction Develop module, I have to export the nef file into CS5 and open lens crrection there. It still does not show up but if I do a search there within that Lens Correction  filter, it is found and I can apply the correction, and then take the .psd file now back to LightRoom 3. Now I have two files. The original .nef file and a psd file, the latter of which only has the lens correction applied to it.
Is there a way to d/l the lens correction profile for this lens and include it in the list already supplied by CS5 and LightRoom3. This really is a pain to correct the shot vis this method and a waste of time. Thanks for your help..
    Tunney

My OS is  XP. Yes I found the folder you mention but don't see a list of
profiles in there. When you take the file into PS5 and go to Lens
Correction, the profile for that lens is not included. But there is a search
capability there which when hit, searches the web for the profile and brings
up the Nikon profile for that lens. It is probably made by Nikon itself. It
is not marked as a community profile but as a Nikon profile for that lens..
I should send you a jpeg file with that lens and let you go into CS5 and
Lens Correction and do the search at which time you will see what I am
referring to. Unless you have this lens yourself, you would be able tyo do
    the same thing.
I don't know if I am making myself clear here. It is not a community profile
that is found in the search in CS5 but is listed as a Nikon profile for the
24-120 lens. I don't use this lens that much but do periodically use it as a
    walk around lens.

  • Same shooting, multiple lenses, how to apply the appropriate lens correction when importing ?

    Hello everyone,
    How do you handle this:
For each camera, i have a default preset i'm choosing manualy and applying when importing my raw files into lightroom.
I'd like to also add some default lens correction to those presets.
The problem is that multiples lenses (meaning different corrections) may be applied.
How to apply the correct lens correction for each file, in the batch import ?
    Thanks for your ideas ...
    Aymeric

Update your existing develop presets so that the Lens Corrections are checked (see attached screen shot). Select the develop preset in Import dialog. Lr will automatically apply the appropriate default lens profile to each individual image during import.

  • How to apply lens correction profile to multiple images at once?

I have a quick newbie question and I couldn't find an answer in a brief search that I did. Is it possible to apply lens correction profile automatically to multiple images at once? For my RAW images, LR automatically detects the lens and applies the correction profile for an image if I manually click on "Enable lens correction" option under Develop module (in the right pane where adjustments are made). However, I would like to do this to multiple images all at once.
    Thanks,
    Osho

Be careful using develop setting synchronization for lens profile across mutiple images! This allows applying an incorrect profile (i.e. Canon 17-40mm profile with synchronization to images shot with multiple lenses) First use the 'filter' tool to make sure you select images shot with only one (1) lens type. Then follow one of the procedures here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WS0E6E6886-E223-4050-B6E0-A97B5B62EF7D.htm l
You can also change the "default" develop settings with 'Lens Profile' option checked and then save as the "new default" setting. LR will then "automatically" apply lens profile correction on import of new images.

  • Applying Lens Corrections Across Entire Import

When I choose an image, one of the first things I always do is apply lens corrections. In 99% of the cases, I don't have to tweak these. I'm shooting with multiple camera bodies, and an import normally happens from hard disk, but it would be wonderful if during the import Lightroom could apply the lens corrections that correspond to the lens/camera body used for each image imported.
A preset seems like it would have to know or assume the camera body/lens combination in advance. That's why I've initially ruled presets out. Do I have this right or would a preset honor the camera/lens combinations from image to image?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I agree with everything stated here, but use a workflow that may work better for you. I reset my lens profile default settings to 0% Distortion, 100% C Aberration, and 50% Vignetting, and then select 'Lens Profile Corrections' as a part of each camera body's default Develop settings (Develop>Set Default Settings>Update To Current Settings).
Here's my rationale based on processing 1,000s of images in LR shot with numerous single focal length, wide angle zoom and telephoto zoom lenses:
    - Distortion is normally only visible in pictures that contain distinct straight line objects. My Canon 17-40mm L lens has fairly high barrel distortion at 17mm on my full frame 5D MKII, but I rarely see it in critical architectural shots. When I do apply 100% distortion correction with this lens at 17mm, the objects near the frame edge and corners become noticeably stretched or elongated. In addition these "corrected areas will be cropped from the picture where they now extend outside the original frame. You will lose part of your picture image and reduce the resolution of the file slightly. In the vast majority of the pictures shot with many different lenses I prefer 0% Distortion correction as my default starting point.
    - Chromatic Aberration correction using the LR Profile Correction setting at 100% works very well for all my lenses, with no redeeming visual side effects or need to change it on individual images.
    - Vignetting varies greatly from lens to lens and by focal length, but I haven't found a single image that benefits from using a 100% Vignetting setting. You should also be aware that even the very best extreme wide angle lenses (24mm and less on full frame, 15mm and less on 1.6 crop) usually exhibit significant vignetting, and image softness in the corners due to uncorrected astigmatism, coma and field curvature. A 100% Vignetting setting will correct the vignetting at the expense of making the corner softness much more apparent. For all of my lenses and bodies I prefer a default Vignetting setting of 50% as a starting point. I only adjust those images that still have visible vignetting on an "as needed" basis.
    Your mileage may vary!

  • How can I apply 'Lens Correction' to 32bit image without reducing to 16bit?

I'm looking for a way to apply 'Lens Correction' to a 32bit image. The image is originally 8bit, but I need to bring it up to 32bit when running the HDR. I only seem to be able to do 'Lens Correction' on 8 or 16bit images however, and the quality of a 32bit HDR wipes the floor with a 16. I'm a bit new to smart filters so hopefully there is something simple and obvious that I'm missing! Any help?

  • Lens profile correction applies severe crop

Canon 5D MKII with Canon EF 100-400mm lens set at 100mm. When using the standard Adobe lens correction profile that comes with LR3.2 there is a severe crop of about 50% applied to the image...but not with every image. Very strange.

Thanks Ian. Here's a link to a page with the file on. WARNING - the file is 19MB. It was shot as a Small RAW.

Do I need to use lens correction in Lightroom 5 develop module it I have it enabled in camera ? (Canon 5D3)

Thanks very much John, I noticed when I applied it in LR5 it made a difference, but I guess what I was asking was it being applied twice, and as I shoot in raw you have answered my question, thank you so much.

Your camera will only apply lens correction (if switched on) to JPEGs, not to RAW files. Clearly you do not want to apply it twice.

  • Where did my "Lens Correction" go?

I have Windows 7, 64-bit installed. I also have CS5 installed, both the 32-bit and 64-bit. When I use the 32-bit version, the Lens Correction function is under the filters menu, where it should be. When I use the 64-bit CS5 (my preferred version), the Lens Correction is nowhere to be found. Any ideas?

My 64 bit plug-in, as part of Photoshop CS5 which has been updated to 12.0.3, is 3,256,832 bytes and the modification date is December 11, 2010, 3:42:39 AM.
Sounds like yours somehow didn't get updated.
I see that Standard MultiPlugin.8BF and Liquify.8BF in that folder were also updated at about the same time - they're also dated 12/11/2010.
You might want to see if you can run the 12.0.3 update again.  I don't know if it can be applied twice.

  • Lens Corrections unavailable in Adobe Camera Raw 8.3

    hello,
since i switched to photoshop CC (mac version), i am having constant problems with lens corrections in ACR 8.3. i am a professional photographer and i use various canon pro lenses that all exist as unique lens profiles already in photoshop and ACR's lens profile archives. when i open canon .CR2 files in adobe ACR 8.3, i encounter the message "unable to load lens profile" at the bottom right of dialog box and even though the correct lenses are identified, ACR cannot apply corrections (please see the attached visual). furthermore, this behavior happens to be sort of erratic, since it may sometimes decide to apply corrections without displaying the "unable to load lens profile" error message.
when i open the files into photoshop CC without being able to apply corrections, i try the "lens correction" menu within photoshop and it works. it is very cumbersome not to be able to do this at the ACR stage.
the ACR that came with photoshop CS 6 never had such problems and it corrected all the lenses that i had.
can you please help me to fix this issue ASAP, since this error makes me lose a lot of time in my workflow.
i also have photoshop CS6 installed in the same disk, could this have any effect?
    best regards,
    murat germen

Presumably you're shooting raw for everything, right, otherwise the issue can be that most raw-capable-camera's JPGs don't have lens profiles whereas raw files do, so profiles are found for raw images but not JPGs.  The reverse is sometimes true, too, where a camera used to only have JPG output but now produces raw files.  I believe the DJI Phantom Vision FC200 quadcopter camera is an example of such.  The screenshot doesn't have enough of the ACR interface to see the name of the file.
Are the profiles that aren't found consistently the same lens or are they from various lenses that also have photos that work in ACR 8.3 at other times?  And do the same photos that fail to have lens profiles load in ACR 8.3 at one point then work if you open them again, later?  In other words does the intermittency seem to be tied to either the specific photos or the specific lenses or not?  Specific photos could mean there is something corrupted in the photo.  Specific lenses could mean that the lens profiles are missing, somehow, or inaccessible due to permission problems.
Is CS6 updated to the same ACR 8.3 version or is it older?  If it is older then install the ACR 8.3 update for CS6.  This will re-install the lens and camera profiles, again.
If CS6 is already updated to ACR 8.3, too, then install the DNG Converter 8.3, which also will install the profiles, again.
The DNG Converter can be found, here:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
If you can't figure it out, then uninstall PS-CC, log out of the CC Desktop app, log back in--so it sees that CC is missing, then re-download and install CC.  This should reset ACR back to 8.0 or 8.1 after which you can install the ACR 8.3 update, again.

  • How to Save Camera Calibration and Lens Correction in Camera raw 6.1

I downloaded and installed the Camera Raw 6.1 release candidate.  I open an image and set the camera calibration and the lens correction to auto for Nikon.  I save these settings as new Camera raw defaults, but when I open other images, the changes were not made.  How can I save these items as defaults?
    Swila

Swila, were your "other images" previously edited in Camera Raw? I.e., do they already have saved image settings? The defaults that you save via the flyout menu will only apply to new images, or if you reset an existing image to the defaults. (e.g., choose "Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu).

  • ACR 8.7 release candidate, Nikon D750, Lens corrections tab

I capture images using a Nikon D750 & AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens with image quality set for NEF (RAW) + JPEG fine & image size set for Large. Slot 1 card saves the NEF files & slot 2 card saves the JPEG files. I download the images using Bridge CC Photo Downloader converting the NEF to a DNG while downloading. When editing the DNG image using the Lens Corrections tab in ACR it correctly recognizes the lens. When editing the JPEG image the same way it incorrectly identifies the lens as an AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED and does not offer a choice for the correct lens. I hoping this can be fixed soon. A workaround that seems fairly accurate is to choose the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70 f2.8G ED instead for the JPEG images.
I recently had to install Camera Raw 8.7 for CC Release Candidate Version: RC 1, Date: October 2, 2014 to recognize the D750 NEF files.

What you’re seeing is normal.  Most lens profiles from Adobe are for RAW files only.  Many cameras do their own corrections, nowadays, so Adobe cannot assume the raw profile would work for JPGs from the camera as a general case.  For example with my new Canon 7D Mark II, which I'm awaiting raw support for at all, I can select vignetting, chromatic-aberration and geometric distortion correction as separate items on the menu to be used for producing camera JPGs.  Adobe doesn't attempt to interpret such proprietary information and apply the appropriate correction for corrections I haven't already asked the camera to do, they just don't supply a lens profile at all for JPGs.  The kit lenses for some cameras seem to be the exception to this, as well as a few other lenses, which I'm not sure why they've supplied profiles for.  You can also download profiles others have created, themselves, using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader which you can find on the adobe.com site.
If you are confident you won't ever have distortion or vignetting correction enabled on your camera for the JPGs it produces, then you can hack a copy of the Adobe-supplied raw profile for a particular lens to be for non-raws, by changing the whateverRAW tag from True to False, and put the modified profile in the user-created profiles area of your computer and it’ll be seen and used.

  • Lens Correction Profiles: Pasting develop settings in bridge yields inconsistent crop

    Hello Everyone,
I recently discovered lens correction profiles which have been a real benefit to me in my most recent batch of images shot at 16mm on a Canon 5d MII. The lens distortion isn't always spot on, but it is a huge headstart most of the time.
I bracket photos for HDR and will apply all my crop settings to one image in the bracketed series and afterwards psate the settings onto all the others in the series. This works great.
However, once I started using Lens Correction Profiles, when I paste the crop setting onto the subsequent images, the crop is in a different position. I was completely baffled. But after some fiddling around, I noticed that if I manually open each of the subsequent images, remove the crop, uncheck and recheck the Lens Correction Profile, and reapply the crop, it is consistent with the first. This leads me to believe that somewhere in the Paste Setting sequence, it is doing the crop out of order. (As if it is cropping the image and THEN applying the lens correction--which yeild different results.)
(As a item of note, when I mean cropping, I use the automatic crop obtained by highlighting the entire area of the image after applying lens corrections so as to only crop out the grey areas acquired by shifting the image around while still maintaining aspect ratio.)
Is there any way we can get the pasting to paste so as to make these subsequent images identical to the original image? Or am I missing something?
    Relevant Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Bridge 4.0.4.2
    Adobe Camera Raw 6.4.0.139
    Photoshop 12.0.3 x64
    Thanks,
    Dave

Normally, when you apply a lens correction profile, there shouldn't be any visible gray areas around the border of the image.
Are you saying this is not the case?
Are you making additional distortion or keystoning adjustments (e.g., in the manual tab)?
