Lens Correction Feature

I have the latest version of Lightroom, 3.4.1.
Lately, I have been using the Lens Correction feature more and more.
I have 3 Nikon lenses and one Tamron lens.
I have noticed that when I check the box to Enable Profile Corrections, it automatically finds the correction if it is one of the 3 Nikon lenses.
However, if the image was taken using the Tamron lens (28 - 300 mm), LR does not automatically find the profile. The message is "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically." When I enter "Tamron" in the Lens Profile Make, then LR automatically finds this particular lens.
Is there a reason LR finds the profile fully automatically for the Nikon lenses but does not do so for the Tamron lens?

I did what I think you are suggesting, and this is what happened.
I went to a picture taken with that Tamron lens. I clicked on "Enable Profile Corrections." At that point, "None" showed in the Make field as well as in the Model and Profile fields.
I then selected "Tamron" to be in the Make field. Both the Model and Profile fields then were populated (and, the Model field was populated with the correct 28 -300 mm lens).
Then under "Setup," I did select "Save New Lens Profile Defaults."
I went to the next picture and again selected "Enable Profile Corrections." This time, the Make, Model, and Profile fields were properly populated because that next picture was taken with that 28 - 300 mm Tamron lens.
However, I skipped a few pictures ahead, to a shot taken with a Nikon lens, and this time when I selected "Enable Profile Corrections," instead of putting the Nikon lens information in those fields, it put the Tamron 28 - 300 mm lens information in those fields.
It appears as if perhaps I will have to "Save New Lens Profile Defaults" every time I go to a new photo which uses a different lens, unless I am not understanding what you have suggested to do.

Right-click on one of the other section titles (Basic, Tone Curve, Detail, etc) and put a checkmark next to Lens Corrections.

Lens correction feature completely missing from Develop Module

The lens correction feature has gone missing from the Development Module. It was missing before I upgraded to 5.6 and is still missing. Previously, it was present, so I am wondering if I did anything to hide or remove it?

Right-click on one of the other section headings, such as Tone Curve, Basic, etc. Make sure there is a checkmark in lens corrections. This is how you control which develop features you want displayed on your system. Sometimes features disappear mysteriously.

The profile is applied automatically. Therefore, nothing for you to.

Tutorials on ACR 6.1 new Lens Correction features

Hi,
We are all experienced users of cameras/Photoshop/ACR etc., and wizards at learning by trial-and-error, but I think it might be really helpful if there was a good tutorial (preferably by Adobe), to deal with the new features of lens corrections in ACR 6.1, to take out some of the guesswork.
There are items to be addressed, like for instance, the difference between Default-Auto-Custom in Lens Profiles page, why the lens profiles seem to depend only on lens type, while in Photoshop they depend on Camera/Lens combinations, how to prevent double correction, and many others.
If anyone knows of such tutorials, I'll be grateful if they can share.

The "Chicken Little" as you call it, isn't aimed at you, unless you want to claim ownership. It isn't mine either. The sky's not falling but there are a few heavy showers about.
I have taken the time and if you examine what I said, I am including the auto corrections in PhotoMerge as part of the whole. Particularly Photomerge at this point.
If you have taken the time to read what I said I pointed out that Lens Correction will attempt to correct the image if you ignore the warning that no profile exists. I couldn't know that unless I tested it.
If you took the time to read my posts earlier in the Profile Creator Forum, would would know that I actually ran tests on the Lens Profiler for the one lens in Adobe's collection I use, against the DXO output and found Adobe's correction way out of line. And to put to rest the notion I don't know what I am talking about, I have used this lens with architectural subjects and the barrel/pincushion distortion is very well corrected with DXO.
But then you are busy I'm sure and would not necessarily know or remember all that. Strange, you do recall just enough to give you ammunition to insult.
So bottom line for me is this:
Lens Correct is set unchecked. I'll look from time to time as more corrections show up, and if I find them satisfactory and at least equivalent to DXO, I'll use it. Why not? It fits the workflow so much better. And I'll come back and share my findings. So Lens Correction in ACR won't affect me.
Photomerge using Geometric Correction in Auto is a non-starter. I really like it better for some stitches than Reposition, but Reposition in CS3 is better than Reposition in CS5 (or 4) which is why I would go back to it.
Yes, it is complicated, complex even. What I am doing is simplifying it best I can so I can work at photography, not test and measurement.

Adobe Camera Raw - lens correction profiles not found

I use Photoshop CC as part of the photography program of Creative Cloud. My platform is a Mac Book Pro (2013) with the latest Mac OS-X operating system. I have also installed Bridge CC and Lightroom 5.
Since about three weeks (maybe after an update but I'm not sure on that) Adobe Camera Raw's lens correction feature fails permanently. With older pictures (taken long before the error occured for the first time) as well as with new photos and with dng files as well as with cr2 files the ACR dialog always shows the error message (lens correction profile can't be found - since I have the German version of Photoshop this is how I would translate the error message). I didn't install or uninstall any programs, plugins etc. around the time of the first occurance of the error.
I already uninstalled Photoshop CC completely (using the uninstall function in the programs folder) and reinstalled it via Creative Cloud but it still shows the same error.
What can I do?

Hello, you can make sure the latest version is installed by going to help-updates.
Also, make sure that you are running the latest version of the creative cloud application, as it fixes a permission problem that might cause the issue you are facing. Just go to the creative cloud application on your menu bar, and restart it.

Lens Correction in Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4

I just upgraded to Lightroom 3 and make use of the lens correction feature in the develop module. After doing all my
adjustments in develop I click ctrl-E to take the photo into Photoshop so I can tweak Levels. I noticed that the lens correction adjustments do not seem to be recognized by CS4 when the photo opens up.
Do I have to upgrade to CS5 to get the lens correction adjustments in LR3 recognized or am I doing something wrong. Thanks

I am using Lightroom 3.4, x64, and Photoshop CS5 (12.0.3 x64) on Win 7 OS.
I might add that, based upon my situation, limited knowledge & experience, I have a number of images ( aprox 200), taken with the same camera/lens combination, for which I want to take advantage of what seem to me the most useful features of each software package: in this case, the ability of Lightroom to apply common "development", first in lens correction and, later at the end, miscellaneous common settings; but, in the middle rotation & crop unique to each image.
Am I missing something, for I would think my situation not uncommon?

Fujifilm s5 - lens correction - LR thinks S5 is fullframe

This more a bug-report than a question. I've been using the lens correction feature with my nikon d50. This summer I bought a used fujifilm s5 and found out that the lenscorrection does odd things. If I use the (aps-c) sigma 18-50 2.8 lens on the d50, the correction is fin, but when I mount the lens on my s5 and import the .raf to lightroom and try to apply correction, it overcorrectlies the picture. The edges around the middle go to pure white, much as you would expect the software to behave on a fullframe camera. Also, when I try to correct the fisheye perspective from my nikkor 10.5mm i don't get the correct result when i select that lens, I do get it (with some minimal distortion present) when i select the nikkor 16mm (fullframe) lens.
So: Lightroom 3 think the fujifilm s5 pro is a full frame camera. Where can I report this bug?

Camera Raw Preferences & Lens Corrections

I downloaded CS5 this a.m. and cannot access the Camera Raw Preferences when in Bridge. When I click on Preferences it does nothing.
Also when in Camera Raw and click on the Lens Correction, I don't see the new lens feature that shows up in the various tutorials about this new lens correction feature. The Lens Correction panel looks like the one in CS4, not what is shown for CS5.
Any Suggestions? I'm on a Mac Pro, running CS5 in 64 bit.

Thank you Rick! Now I can quit pulling my hair out wondering why I don't see it. It shows up in all the tutorials so you'd think it would be there. I'm sure they'll hear about this and get the update out soon, but like you said "How soon is soon?"

Now if I can only figure out why Camera Raw Preferences won't open. Maybe that will be fixed with 6.1.

Lens Correction filter not working?

I upgraded to CS5 specifically to use the auto lens correction feature (primarily for barrel and pincushion distortion on my Canon zoom lenses). Now I find that:
Even though the camera back (5D Mark II) and lens information is included with an image, the lens correction filter requires me to manually select the back and lens.
Several of my lenses are not even included in the data base, even though they're very popular lenses (e.g., EF16-35mm 2.8 L USM II and EF 70-300mm DO IS USM). I realize the data base is to be enlarged, but these seem like inexplicable omissions. (And I have no desire or time to create my own profiles.)
The PDF instruction manual for CS5 offers no help, and I don't see this issue addressed in the forums. I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me on how to make this function work.

   Thanks for the quick answer, but I still think the menu is misleading.
   If the body choices were in the format of "full frame, 1.3 crop, 1.6
crop, etc.", it would be clear that the specific model didn't matter.
However, this would create its own problems since many people wouldn't
understand the concept of the crop factor for their camera.
   The fact that the 5D Mark II exists in the pull-down menu as a discrete
choice in addition to the 1Ds Mark III implies that there is a difference
between the two. Even if there is no functional difference in this context,
it would avoid confusion if the actual body from the EXIF information could
always be the default selection.

Lens Correction Problem

I'm using a Nikon D3 and Nikon professional lenses which are all recognised by the Photoshop CS5 (12.04) lens Correction function when inputting RAW images.
But...
If I process any of my RAW files through Photomatix (saving as JPG) and then open them in CS5 the lens correction function only recognises the images as having come from a Nikon Coolpix camera and I'm not given the option of selecting a Nikon D3 and associated lenses.
I can understand that there's some loss of functionallity due to the processing through Photomatix but I would have hoped that I would have been given the option to 'override' the lens correction feature and force it to recognise the Nikn D3 I'm using.
This isn't possible, or is it?
Any help/advice would be very welcome...

See if selecting Nikon Corporation instead of Nikon from the camera make drop-down menu makes a difference.

Lens correction won't automatically detect lens and correct

I'm having a fun time with the lens correction feature in LR 3.2, but it will not auto detect the lens. I have all profiles loaded, I checked. I convert all photos to .dng from the .nef format. (Nikon shooter) When I enable the profile corrections button the setup changes to custom and the lens profile "maker" drop down says none??? and on the bottom it reads "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically." If I change the Make to Tamron by manually selecting it, for example, it finds the profile and all is well. How in the heck do I set it up so the profile connection is enabled automatically and the right lens pops up without intervention?? Hope someone can help with this...I'm working through 500 down selects and this would be nice to fix this issue.
I can see all the lens info in the metadata on the normal library screen????.

So you have Tamron lenses...
Here's a quote from a post by Eric Chan (one of LR/ACR developers):
Re: the Sigma 10-20 question. Regrettably, we cannot always automatically determine with 100% certainty the identity of the lens used to shoot the image. We try to be conservative. So if in doubt, we don't choose one automatically. For some third party lenses, this can happen. Choosing Sigma from the Make popup is the right thing to do in this case.
Still, you can try the following trick:
Choose an image shot with a Tamron lens.
Go to lens correction. (The Lens profile auto-detection is supposed to be failed at the moment.)
Choose Tamron and the desired profile from the lists.
Drop down the Setup list and choose "Save New Lens Profile Defaults".
This should rememeber the lens setup (i.e. slider values and lens profile) for the given camera/lens combination.
You can also use a develop preset to apply a lens correction quickly.

Lens Correction Applied Twice?

I am shooting in camera raw plus JPEG with a Sony Nex 6. Several lens correction features are enabled. Are they being applied to the raw file by the camera? The reason I wonder is that the manual usually specifies under what conditions each feature does not apply and for the lens correction features, there is no mention of raw mode.

To be more clear: I want to understand what my camera is doing so I don't apply the correction in the camera and in LR5 to the raw file.

Lens Corrections in Bridge. Lens Distortion not in Bridge.

I can open Bridge without opening Photoshop;
also, I can edit CR in Bridge without opening
Photoshop CS4.
Cmd+R puts images into Raw editing.
There is a Lens Corrections feature in
Bridge which has no access to a Lens
Distortion control in Bridge.
Opening up several hundred CR's in Photoshop
halts my productivity immediately.
Lens Distortion should be one of the very first
accessible tools in Bridge CR. If it is available
in Bridge, where is it?
Next question: Is Lens Distortion available in CS5 Bridge?

it could be acceessed from Bridge or from Photoshop.

It is correct that there can only be one version of ACR, however both Bridge
and PS can use them together at the same time. Don't know how but it works
as long as I can remember and I have no reason to assume it does not so in
Windows.
Using the command open in Bridge or double click on thumbs opens the files
in ACR through Photoshop. Open in Camera Raw or cmd + R opens the files in
ACR using Bridge.
Open files using choose with lets you choose all the applications that are
capable of opening the file. (Raw files have limited options of course -due
to the need for a Raw converter- but for instance a jpg file has a lot of
options depending on how many applications you have installed on your
machine)
In the Bridge prefs you can also check the option to open Raw files in ACR
Bridge with double click on a file (by default turned off).
Another option is to use right click mouse menu on selected files and then
you can also choose from the above ways to open files.
There is a but in this, Although you can use them both together they can't
use the same function in both apps to do it in PS at the same time, you have
to wait for one task to be finished.
Hence the small difference in both ACR windows, in PS the 'Open' button
bottom right is active. Using ACR in Bridge the 'Done' button is active.
But if you have a big session and start using ACR in PS and make your
settings in filmstrip mode on multiple files you then can open them in PS.
This can take some time so meanwhile you can switch to Bridge and start work
on a new batch applying settings in ACR Bridge. After you have finished this
session hit done and this applies the new ACR settings to the files in
Bridge, the thumbs will be update.
Meanwhile you can switch to PS and finishing the job inhere. Then again go
to Bridge and open the latest corrected files directly in PS using the shift
key to bypass the ACR window (you already had the settings applied,
remember). If you wish you can then again choose a new job in ACR Bridge
while PS opens the files, and so on and so on.
Depending on your machine specs this can be done without delay (fast machine
with enough RAM). You can also choose to save files which will provide you
with a waiting list that functions in the background. Also now you can use
the other app to work in.
Nice, isn't it??
Only downside is that you won't have an excuse for a coffee break, but as
they say, You can't have them all...

Scripting Lens Correction to process millions of photos

We have several million "Fish-Eye" images that we need to flatten out and the new "Lens Correction" feature of Photoshop CS5 appears to work pretty well. I was able to use the predefined File -> Automate -> Lens Correction function to process a hanfull of images and it worked fine for a small batch.
I would like to know if there is a way with Photoshop CS5 to script/batch out a process so that I can use it to process the millions of individual files we need to have processed.
Also, I am not familiar with the Photoshop "Batch" or "Scripting" process, so assuming the above request is possible, some direction on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunatly I'm talking millions of images. Anwhere from 3 to 20 millon. Space is not an issue but time may be but that will all be evaluated during this process.
From what I've figured out so far, handling this via a script would probalby be the best way to handle it as I may have to do some other integration in order to retrieve my lists of files to process, handle errors and dynamically name the saved images. I also believe scripting will allow me to run the process from outside of Photoshop.
For now, however, I'm trying the simpler approach mentioned above. So how would I go about creating an action to applie lens correction?
