Lens Correction profiles vs. lens filters

Hi again everybody!
Does anyone have experiece with how the use of filters (circular polarizers in particular) affects Chromatic Aberration and Vignetting?
I'm sure it does, but I was wondering if that's something you could pre-set using lens corrections profiles in Lightroom?
Cheers
Tom

You can move the sliders to set a higher value and "Save defaults for lens" in the list above. The new values will be used by default on new photos shot with the same lens. That could help, but of course, filters may introduce a more complicated pattern, than just amplifying the flaws of a bare lens.

  • Adobe Camera Raw - lens correction profiles not found

I use Photoshop CC as part of the photography program of Creative Cloud. My platform is a Mac Book Pro (2013) with the latest Mac OS-X operating system. I have also installed Bridge CC and Lightroom 5.
Since about three weeks (maybe after an update but I'm not sure on that) Adobe Camera Raw's lens correction feature fails permanently. With older pictures (taken long before the error occured for the first time) as well as with new photos and with dng files as well as with cr2 files the ACR dialog always shows the error message (lens correction profile can't be found - since I have the German version of Photoshop this is how I would translate the error message). I didn't install or uninstall any programs, plugins etc. around the time of the first occurance of the error.
I already uninstalled Photoshop CC completely (using the uninstall function in the programs folder) and reinstalled it via Creative Cloud but it still shows the same error.
    What can I do?

Hello, you can make sure the latest version is installed by going to help-updates.
Also, make sure that you are running the latest version of the creative cloud application, as it fixes a permission problem that might cause the issue you are facing. Just go to the creative cloud application on your menu bar, and restart it.

  • Lens Correction Profiles: Pasting develop settings in bridge yields inconsistent crop

    Hello Everyone,
I recently discovered lens correction profiles which have been a real benefit to me in my most recent batch of images shot at 16mm on a Canon 5d MII. The lens distortion isn't always spot on, but it is a huge headstart most of the time.
I bracket photos for HDR and will apply all my crop settings to one image in the bracketed series and afterwards psate the settings onto all the others in the series. This works great.
However, once I started using Lens Correction Profiles, when I paste the crop setting onto the subsequent images, the crop is in a different position. I was completely baffled. But after some fiddling around, I noticed that if I manually open each of the subsequent images, remove the crop, uncheck and recheck the Lens Correction Profile, and reapply the crop, it is consistent with the first. This leads me to believe that somewhere in the Paste Setting sequence, it is doing the crop out of order. (As if it is cropping the image and THEN applying the lens correction--which yeild different results.)
(As a item of note, when I mean cropping, I use the automatic crop obtained by highlighting the entire area of the image after applying lens corrections so as to only crop out the grey areas acquired by shifting the image around while still maintaining aspect ratio.)
Is there any way we can get the pasting to paste so as to make these subsequent images identical to the original image? Or am I missing something?
    Relevant Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Bridge 4.0.4.2
    Adobe Camera Raw 6.4.0.139
    Photoshop 12.0.3 x64
    Thanks,
    Dave

Normally, when you apply a lens correction profile, there shouldn't be any visible gray areas around the border of the image.
Are you saying this is not the case?
Are you making additional distortion or keystoning adjustments (e.g., in the manual tab)?

  • Lens correction profile for the Canon 18-135 STM lens in Lightroom 5 ?

How or where can I get the lens correction profile for the Canon 18-135 STM lens in Lightroom 5 ? In effect he is not available in my list of correction lens so my lightroom is up to date apparently :/
    Thanks in advance for answer.

There are two types of Lens profiles - raw and JPEG. It looks like you are trying to process a JPEG image and Adobe has only provided a raw lens profile for the 18-135mm IS STM lens.
    You have four options:
    1) Check for available lens profile using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader. I checked and a JPEG lens profile is NOT available for the 18-135mm lens.
    2) Follow the procedure outlined by Steve Sprengel in this post:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lr_5_lens_profile_not_applied_for_jp g_captures_only_for_raw_captures
More detailed instructions here for a Pentax lens example:
    http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-processing-articles/176761-creating-adobe-lens-cor rection-profiles-jpgs-raw-ones.html
This allows using the available raw lens profile with JPEG images. To my knowledge Canon DSLR cameras do not apply distortion correction to JPEG images, so the raw profile should work well. You can check this by shooting raw+JPEG and comparing the two images inside LR
    3) Create you own lens profile using the Adobe Lens Profile Creator. (A complicated process, but it can be done!).
    4) Start shooting in raw mode or raw + JPEG mode, which will allow you to extract the most benefit from LR's processing controls.

  • Lens correction profiles LR3.4 Mac

    I use a mac.
    I shoot raw.
I created lens correction profiles for my camera and a few lenses.  I uploaded them to Adobe.  The lens corrections show up in Adobe Camera Raw  but not in Lightroom.  ACR "looks" for the .lcp files in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/Lens Profiles/1.0
Where does Lightroom look for the .lcp files?  Or does it use them a all?  There is a large list of supported lenses in the dropdown menu, just not the ones I created.

QUOTING:   There is a second Lens Profiles Default folder as well.
Where is this elusive second folder?  I put copies of the profile in the /Downloaded folder as wel, but Lightroom still doesn't see them.

    Yes redkaz,
If you go to the main lightroom forum page, on the right hand side, there is a Resources section.
Press "submit a feature request or bug report". There you can submit a feature request, and vote up others.

The new Sigma 24 1.4 art lens will arrive soon, and even though it is as good as its competitors, it should produce heavy vignetting.

    Regards Lars

Adobe does not announce release dates for new profiles. However, you can except that the next minor release upgrade after the release of the lens will bring the profile to LR.

  • How to apply lens correction profile to multiple images at once?

I have a quick newbie question and I couldn't find an answer in a brief search that I did. Is it possible to apply lens correction profile automatically to multiple images at once? For my RAW images, LR automatically detects the lens and applies the correction profile for an image if I manually click on "Enable lens correction" option under Develop module (in the right pane where adjustments are made). However, I would like to do this to multiple images all at once.
    Thanks,
    Osho

Be careful using develop setting synchronization for lens profile across mutiple images! This allows applying an incorrect profile (i.e. Canon 17-40mm profile with synchronization to images shot with multiple lenses) First use the 'filter' tool to make sure you select images shot with only one (1) lens type. Then follow one of the procedures here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WS0E6E6886-E223-4050-B6E0-A97B5B62EF7D.htm l
You can also change the "default" develop settings with 'Lens Profile' option checked and then save as the "new default" setting. LR will then "automatically" apply lens profile correction on import of new images.

  • Lens correction profile (or planned) for Samyang 24mm f/3,5 TS?

    hi all,
Is there a lens correction profile (or planned) for Samyang 24mm f/3,5 TS?
    thank you for reply

I don't believe Adobe has provided lens profiles for any tilt-shift lens. There are simply too many possible combinations of settings that affect distortion and vignetting. In addition I believe this lens does not include the aperture setting in the image file EXIF data, which is required for proper correction of vignetting.
    You have two possible options:
    1) Use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator to create  lens profiles for each shooting aperture. You'll need to record or remember your shooting aperture to use them, since there is no 'Aperture' EXIF data. A separate lens profile will need to be created for each each shooting aperature, shift, and tilt setting combination that you will be using. I would try to keep the combinations to a minimum.
    2) Use the LR Lens Corrections> Manual> Distortion and Lens Vignetting controls to create Develop presets for specific lens aperture settings. When using the lens tilt or shift function you may also need to include a Graduated filter(s) with Exposure compensation, since the vignetting will not be symmetrical (i.e. light fall-off in direction of tilt & shift). Keep in mind that the lens distortion may also become assymetrical when using tilt or shift.
So you can see the complexity of trying to create a lens profile for tilt-shift lens.

  • Lens Correction Profile switches to wrong profile when adjusting amount sliders

    Title says it all.
Lens profile is selected correctly in auto or default setup, but as soon as I change the distortion, C.Aberration or Vignetting sliders the lens profile changes to a wrong profile.
    Rob

I've been able to recreate the phenomenon:
    1. Adjust anything such that the setup becomes custom.
    2. select the wrong make, model, or profile.
    3. Enable auto - or default, both of which select the correct profile.
    4. Adjust anything again and whatever values were previously set for custom make, model, and profile will be active again: right or wrong.
So, now that I know whats causing it, it won't be a problem too often.
Its caused by a combination of user error, and program anomaly.
User error is selecting the wrong profile in the first place when in custom setting mode.
Program anomaly is not abandoning previous custom make, model, and profile when adjusting distortion CA, & Vignettes after having selected auto or default setup.
This is non-optimal behavior because if you ever leave a lens profile in a changed state, it will be remembered forever, despite having returned to an auto or default setup.
So, one could have everything seem hunky dory, then decide to up the CA amount a bit, and suddenly have a wrong profile due to some fooling around X minutes, months, or years ago...
Bottom line: Custom values for make, model, and profile should be abandoned when adjusting amount sliders in auto or default mode. Only if user invokes custom mode directly, should the make, model, and profile values stored for the custom mode be reinstated.
An acceptable alternative would be just to abandon make, model, and profile values immediately whenever user switches from custom mode to auto or default.
I will be very careful from now on, although hopefully this anomaly will be fixed so I don't have to be so careful.
    Rob
