Lens correction tools

hello, my lens correction tools are suddenly missing from the develop page ... any advice?

Right-click on one of the other section headings such as "Basic" or "Tone Curve", etc. Make sure there is a checkmark in every section that you want displayed. Somehow the lens corrections section has been unchecked. It happens occasionally for some reason.

Hi, do all versions of Elements have a lens correction tool like the one in lightroom 3?

    Sorry, posted in wrong forum.

  • Lens correction tool in Camera Raw 6.0???

I bought Photoshop CS5 last night and got everything loaded up.  The first thing I wanted to play with was the lens correction tool that is supposed to be in Camera Raw 6.0.  For the life of me, I can not find the barrel distortion corrections and auto CA corrections.  I find them in Photoshop, albeit a very limited selection of lenses (Canon's extremely popular EF 16-35L is not even an option) but not Camera Raw.  It does not appear to be an option under the lens correction tab.  What am I missing?

  • Auto scale/crop with lens correction tool in Camera Raw 8.4

Does anyone know if this type of functionality exists in Camera Raw 8.4 similar to the Auto scale function in the lens correction filter? I understand the straighten tool offers this effect but I'm looking for in auto crop or autoscale feature when using the lens correction tool. Thanks in advance!

    Good day!
I notice no difference to prior to 8.4.
But maybe the ACR Forum may be a better place for questions realted to ACR.

  • LR5 - equvalent lens in lens correction tool

Is there an equivalent lens in LR5 in the lens correction tool that I could use for a Canon SX50. The camera is a bridge camera so the lens is not separate and identifiable on the tool. Bridge cameras do not seem to be included in the option

  • Lr4 - Lens Corrections tool.

Hi, I recently purchased LR4 -4.2 (as a download) and installed in onto my PC, running Windows 7, 64bit. I cannot get the "Lens Corrections" tool, to work correctly. When editing images, the lens correction tool, only displays a small sample (like 4 or 6 lenses approx.), of lenses to choose from, however (only once) it displayed a complete lists of lenses to suit my Nikon d800, including the lens profile I required at the time, being the Zeiss 50mm f1.4, so I am aware that Lr4 is capable of facilitating my lens profile requirements. This is frustrating, can you please help me rectify this irritating problem. In the mean time, I have resorted to using the ePaperPress product, PT Lens-which has helped me immensely.
    Thank you.

    Ask in the LR forum.

  • What about missing lenses in lens correction tool ?

    When/where other profiles ?
I need a profile for the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4D, one of the best lens ever ! can't miss in LR.
I know there is a tool to make profiles but it looks to complicated to me so I was wondering if someone did that profile already...
    Thanks

    oh!
    thanks for your feedback!
then I may have been hard on adobe but wrong!? sorry if this is the case... though I still have a problem...
i double checked and can't find the profile you say exists.
i use LR3 in French (downloaded 2 weeks ago, I had the beta 2 installed before, it's installed on a pc with vista 32 bits). My translation may be imperfect: here is what happens when i edit a photo made with canon EOS 5D MarkII & EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM:
    - i activate the profile correction.
the configuration is "default" (but the result is the same with "auto")
    - the system automatically used to propose me (before I made any changes)
         brand: canon,
         model: canon EF 135mm F2 L USM,
profile: adobe (canon EF 135mm F2 L USM)
    - I have searched for my configuration and found
         brand: canon,
         model: canon EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM,
but then, the only profile available is: canon EOS 1Ds MarkIII - EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM.
    non 5D Mk2 available.
    - now the above configuration seems to have become the default, even though i have never saved a new default
I have searched extensively on the adobe website and have not found neither a list of profiles available, not the possibility to download and install more!
    (i think this should be)
so does anyone know where my problem is ? and how i can solve it as apparently the profile should be available?
    thanks in advance!

  • Why is my new imac i7 (os 10.6.4)crash every time I am in CS5 using filter tool-lens correction?

In the middle of using lens correction tool or noise reduction filter, my new imac crashs, I have lightroom sometimes on, and Firefox brawser with music streming, any ideas why?

Maybe updating might help as you seem to be behind with the OS and don’t even mention Photoshop’s exact version.

  • Capture Sharpening & Lens Corrections- Does the order matter?

Okay, I think I understand the concept that all of the changes made in Lightroom are metadata edits, and so it does not matter what order you make changes to your image. So using the lightroom controls for sharpening and lens corrections (chromatic aberration, etc.) is just fine.
But what if you are doing your capture sharpening outside of lightroom, say using photokit sharpener in photoshop?
Does the use of the lens correction tools in lightroom negatively affect the capture sharpening done later in photoshop? Ideally I'd like to do all of the possible image adjustments in lightroom, without doing any sharpening, and then head over to photoshop for capture sharpening and any further photoshopping that is necessary.
But if I do lens correction changes in lightroom, will that cause a problem? Do I need to forego doing any lens correcting in lightroom if I am going to be doing capture sharpening in photoshop after the fact?
    Thanks for the help.

I shoot in Raw. I only recently got Photokit Sharpener, so I am trying to work that in to my workflow, in which case I would turn off Lightroom's default sharpening.
I think I may be worried about something that isn't really a problem, but I had heard that when you adjust for chromatic aberrations, it adjusts the color channels, for example moving the red channel in relation to the blue channel, in order to eliminate the color fringing. If that is the case, then I was wondering whether sharpening applied outside of Lightroom would have to be applied after the chromatic aberration adjustments had been made or if it could be applied before without causing problems.
My current plan is to just apply the capture sharpening in Photoshop after all LR adjustments have been made, and hopefully that will work out fine.

  • Lens correction doesn't work in CS5 Bridge

Lens Correction in Bridge isn't working properly for me.
I ran the Lens Correction tool in Bridge and selected "Match best profile" from the profile section.
The script ran and saved the new files in the proper folder, but didn't produce any lens correction results. I double-checked this by creating a highly distorted lens profile and running the script with that, but it didn't produce any results either. It seems the Lens Correction tool, when accessed through Bridge, isn't working. It does, however, work great when used in Photoshop... just not in Bridge where you can apply it to multiple files.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Judging from the ancient dialog screen, I'd bet that this feature doesn't get used much.

Your last remark about popular usage seems to be spot on, never even tried it myself. It seems one of the many needless and bad working options in Bridge that should have been dealt with long time ago but as we all know by now Bridge is neglected by Adobe bean counters and we still are waiting for the miracle...
Tried your route in Bridge CC (selecting a few files in Bridge / menu tools / Photoshop / Lens Correction) and run the scripts.
You are right, the files are saved in a separate 'results' folder with the same filename but nothing has changed other then instead having a locked background layer now the dreadful 'layer 0' assigned (dreadful because I have lots of actions working on the layer called 'background' and they refuse to work on 'layer 0', I have to built in a flatten layer command to change it again to background, but this is slightly Off Topic…)
And indeed,  the same files running in PS lens correction filter do have the correct result.
You can't use raw or DNG directly in the Bridge script because the result can only be saved as jpg, png, PSD and Tiff.
Meanwhile you could do the obvious and choose from two options:
    - follow the ACR / Raw -DNG route (preferred because at the start of the process) where  you can select the raw files in filmstrip mode and with select all choose lens correction in ACR then hit OK or save or open).
    - or in case of already converted or saved files create an action (which is nothing more then a recorded script but then very easy) yourself.
Just open 1 file in PS, then create a new action in the action panel with a proper name. It starts recording and will follow your steps. Apply lens correction with the wanted settings, then hit OK, use flatten layer to return to Background instead of Layer 0, hit save as (choose a proper location because all files will be saved here when running the action) and be sure to not touch or change the file name otherwise each new file will overwrite the previous with the same recorded file name, if you leave it untouched it saves the existing file name in a new location. hit close file and then stop the recording of the action.
Select a bunch of files in Bridge, choose menu tools / PS / Batch and select the action you want to apply and hit OK.  In case of 100 + files go for coffee, otherwise watch the magic happen…

  • Lr4 Available Lens Correction Profiles

When editing images, the lens correction tool, only displays a small sample size (like 4 or 6 lenses approx.), of lenses to choose from, however (only once) it displayed a complete lists of lenses to suit my Nikon D800E, including the lens profile I required at the time, being the Zeiss 50mm f1.4, so I am aware that Lr4 is capable of facilitating my lens profile requirements. I have previously seen a comprehensive list displayed within Lr4, but it had disappeared? I am unable to solve this issue myself-sorry. This is frustrating, can you please help me rectify this issue. The Zeiss 50mm F1.4 has very low distortion and virtually no vignetting at F2 and above. I doubt you will see much correction using a lens profile with it except perhaps at F1.4. Just make sure you have 'Remove Chromatic Aberration' checked under the 'Color' tab as your LR 'Default' setting, which is lens independent.
As Lee Jay pointed out you probably saw more profiles (only once) because it was a NEF raw format file. Unless you have a good reason to shoot only in JPEG format with your Nikon D800, I'd set it to shoot NEF raw files or raw +JPEG. If interested there is a lively discussion on this very topic:

  • LR 3.5 'crashing' when using spot correction tool

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (from XPx64) and have had to restart LR several times after using the spot correction tool. The circle verifying the correction doesn't appear, and my mouse cursor disappears anytime it is over the LR program window. Task manager indicates the program is running, but I can't operate the program. It also will not close from the start bar, and only closes from the task manager. Any other experience this?

Spot Tool slowness and lock up can be caused when the 'Lens Corrections' tool is used (i.e. Enable Profile Corrections or Manual tab settings applied). Try temporarily disabling the 'Lens Corrections' tools by turning OFF the small switch to the left of the 'Lens Correction' tab. This will disable all lens correction settings. Try using the Spot Tool again and see if that fixes the problem. If so this is the best solution for now, and once finished with the 'Spot Removal' tool you can flip the Lens Corrections' swicth back ON.

  • ACR Lens Correction vs PS CS5 (under Filter) Lens Correction

    1. I would like to know why the Lens Correction tool within Photoshop CS5, under menu item "Filter", shows a choice of three pull down menus for: camera make, camera model and lens model, whereas the Adobe Camera Raw Lens Correction tool shows different pulldown menus  of these: Make(Mine shows Nikon since I shoot only Nikon), Model(mine for instance shows "24.0-120.0 f3.5-f5.6", a custom profile that I did), and Profile (mine will show "Nikon D700-24.0-120.0mm f3.5-f5.6" in this slot, for the lens mentioned above.
Why does one application need the camera model and the other does not, is my main question ?
    2. My last question for this evening is: when I applied my new 24-120mm lens profile to a shot that I shot from a distance of say, 30 meters away from my subject, the profile which was checked in the pulldown menu under Adobe Camera Raw, when I right-clicked my custom profile, showed a distance of 100m(and all my other sets of images showed also at correct distances and apertures, but I did not shoot any from 100m). None of my test shots were from 100m, so is the application just going to always show 100 meters for any case  where you shoot from a given lens' point of infiinity or more(and the application has interpolated results for a distance of infinity which it is calling to be 100m ?
    Thanks for any help,
    Debra

    Stola,
I am willing to share my lens profiles with others and I have sent this profile directly to Adobe and it is in the database, accessible from Photoshop CS5.
I will have to send you the lens profile as an attachment since a Lightroom user cannot access the lens profile database, according to what I have seen on this forum.  You can send me a private message with your email address and I will send the file to that address, it is an 83 kilobyte file and is for RAW images, the NEFs, shot with the D700. I took 120 different images, not 27, to develop this profile, so it is a good one that I invested a lot of time in developing.
In order to send a private message to me with your email address to mail the lens profile file to, you would click on my name beside the post of the topic, and then when the menu comes up, on the right, choose "Actions", "Send private message", and then compose the note to send me your email address within the private message, unless you want to post your email address on the forum, which robots can obtain and then spam you with advertisements, etc..

  • Lens Correction and Cropped Pixels

I'm starting out as an architectural photographer, and as I don't yet have a perspective correcting lens to adjust images in-camera, I need to use the Lens Correction tools in Photoshop and ACR.  I prefer to use them over the Free Transform tool for the sake of accuracy (and convenience), but I do have an issue with the tools.  When I correct the perspective of an image and then process, whatever extends beyond the boundary of the canvas winds up being automatically deleted, and it seems as if there's no setting to prevent this from happening.  As there is sometimes a piece of a photo that I would like to be able to retain (i.e. extra sky, the top of a building, etc.), I understand that I can scale down the image in the Lens Correction tool and then re-crop after processing.  Of course then this causes the image to still be smaller than I would like it to be (in certain cases where the distortion correction is more extreme, an original 21MP photo might become a 12 or 13MP photo after processing in the Lens Correction due to scale-down).
Is there any way that the Lens Correction tool will allow for pixels extending beyond the boundaries of the canvas to remain uncropped, thus allowing me to expand the canvas in order to reclaim the extra information?

Yammer P, yes the list is shorter because it's a jpeg rather than raw, and we have more profiles for raw than for jpeg.
For the set of lenses supported in CS5's initial release, we created profiles for both raw and jpeg. Since then, we have been concentrating on raw-based lens profiles, for a number of reasons (one of which is that we feel we can consistently deliver the highest quality results this way). This is why you see some lenses supported with raw & jpeg profiles, but many more supported with raw only.
CS5's Lens Correction plug-in does indeed let you choose raw-based lens profiles even though it is processing a rendered file (e.g., jpeg, tiff). This will work in many (but not all) cases for distortion correction, but will often work poorly for chromatic aberration and vignette correction. I don't recommend this workflow and it is a key reason we don't let users mix/match in ACR & LR.

  • Lens Correction like PS CS

A lens correction tool to correct Vertical Perspective, Horizontal Perspective, and Pincushion would make LH nearly perfect in every way.
These tools are essential for architectural photography and pictures of geometric subjects with a wide angle lens.

Tom Niemann, author of PTLens, seems committed to providing this functionality once Adobe releases the SDK. It's the first item in his FAQ's at http://www.epaperpress.com/ptlens/index.html.
Hopefully the SDK is released soon. (Noise Ninja has also stated they're awaiting the SDK.)
