Lens corrections temporarily disabling other adjustments

I have recently noticed something strange with Lightroom. Normally, I work my way down the Develop module making basic adjustments, using the various tools, and so on; the last thing I do is Upright or Manual lens corrections. However, I apply Lens profiles at the very beginning (because it makes a difference). Recently I noticed that when I apply Upright or Manual Lens corrections, Lightroom seems to temporarily disable any other corrections, apply the lens correction (which always seems to take forever), and reapplies the other corrections. I found this out after noticing minor black and white clipping areas temporarily reappear on a photo I had corrected with an adjustment brush while applying a Manual Lens correction.
I find this behaviour odd and do not know if it has any impact on any other corrections like adjustment brush correction (in this case I started wondering if Lightroom readjusts the adjustment brush area or not).

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to temporarily disable all adjustments

This is strange... I've looked through the manual, did a search here, did one on google and no mention of this at all.
After doing a number of adjustments to an image, how can I quickly see a "Before and After" version?  You can uncheck the button next to individual adjustment blocks but I want to ignore all of them temporarily to see the full effect.
    Thank you for any help.

Doh!  The minute I click "Send", I see a message in the "More Like This" box which points to a similar question.  I guess the search word I needed in there was "toggle"!   Darn.
Anyway, that other post reveals that the answer to my question is "M" for Master.

  • Lens Correction in LR 5

How do I set Lens Correction Profile so that my make of camera and the lens used is the default setting please

The only way that I know how to do this is to make a Develop preset that only incorporates the appropriate lens profile and no other adjustments and then set up the import dialog to apply that develop preset to all imports.
With current images already imported apply the lens profile correction to an image and then select all the images made with that camera/lens combination and then do a 'Sync...' with only the 'LensCorrection' and 'Lens Profile Corrections' ticked.

Can 'Enable Profile Corrections' in Lens Corrections be checked as a default?

    Yep, no problem.
Select a photo in Develop module.
It’s a good idea to press Reset, so that you only change the defaults that you intend to.
Check the Enable Lens Corrections, and any other settings you want as default.
Go to Develop menu > Set Default Settings.
    Press Update to Current Settings.
Repeat with a sample photo from each camera you use (and raw and JPEG, if you shoot both formats)
That will then apply to any new photos (of that format) you import from that camera, and any photos that you hit Reset.

  • CS2 question  Filter- Distort- Lens Correction

    Comrades...
When using the lens correction pane (Filter-> Distort-> Lens Correction) in CS2 I have never been able to use the hand tool to move a scaled (or not) image within the preview window. It just doesn't function.
eg., when correcting for vertical perspective the upper portion of the image is "cropped" by the top of the preview window and additional transparent canvass appears at the bottom. I'd like to pull the image down to center it but alas... no functioning hand tool.
Is this tool just broken or am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for your advice.
(Intel and older G4 mac- same problem)
    d

What I think you're looking for is a Move Tool not a Hand Tool.
The Hand tool is for navigating in an image. It doesn't move the pixels around.
The Move Tool is for actually moving the pixels around on the canvas.
There appears to be no such tool in lens correction.

  • Lens corrections for 80-200 2.8 D

I have a nikon ed af nikkor 80-200mm 1-2.8 D push pull that I use for portraits on a D 300.  This is the finest
lens I have ever owned.  When I process in acer I use the lens corrections for
my other lenses but this lens is not there.  Do I use a different lens like
the 70-200 VR?  Will Nikon be adding to the list?  Earl B

If you think that lens is good, you should get the 70-200vr. I never thought that i would own a slower lens, but i also purchased the 80-400vr, and it is absolutely as sharp as the 70-200. this may not answer your question, but info you might find interesting nonetheless.

  • Lens correction won't automatically detect lens and correct

I'm having a fun time with the lens correction feature in LR 3.2, but it will not auto detect the lens.  I have all profiles loaded, I checked.  I convert all photos to .dng from the .nef format.  (Nikon shooter)  When I enable the profile corrections button the setup changes to custom and the lens profile "maker" drop down says none???  and on the bottom it reads "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically." If I change the Make to Tamron by manually selecting it, for example, it finds the profile and all is well.  How in the heck do I set it up so the profile connection is enabled automatically and the right lens pops up without intervention??  Hope someone can help with this...I'm working through 500 down selects and this would be nice to fix this issue.
I can see all the lens info in the metadata on the normal library screen????.
Thanks so much for your help in advance!

    So you have Tamron lenses...
Here's a quote from a post by Eric Chan (one of LR/ACR developers):
Re: the Sigma 10-20 question. Regrettably, we cannot always automatically determine with 100% certainty the identity of the lens used to shoot the image. We try to be conservative. So if in doubt, we don't choose one automatically. For some third party lenses, this can happen. Choosing Sigma from the Make popup is the right thing to do in this case.
Still, you can try the following trick:
Choose an image shot with a Tamron lens.
Go to lens correction. (The Lens profile auto-detection is supposed to be failed at the moment.)
Choose Tamron and the desired profile from the lists.
Drop down the Setup list and choose "Save New Lens Profile Defaults".
This should rememeber the lens setup (i.e. slider values and lens profile) for the given camera/lens combination.
You can also use a develop preset to apply a lens correction quickly.

  • I don't get the Lens Correction Profile for Sigma 10-20?

I see several postings of people discussing the lens profile for the Sigma 10-20. As a proud 10-20 owner, that is the first profile I looked for in LR3, but in my (trial) copy I don't seem to have it - there's only the DC4.5, DC18-200, DG8, DG12-24, and the DG15.
Where can I find the Sigma 10-20 lens correction profile that others are referring to?
    (Thanks!)

That is confusing.... So I cannot see/use the Sigma 10-20 lens profile on any jpg picture ... ?!?
Is there no Sigma profile for jpg available?
    Well....technically no.
However, I found this approach limiting so I converted all the Sigma-generated raw profiles to JPEG profiles.  Yes, they might not be perfect, but they work better than nothing (actually, way better than nothing).
Inside each profile lcp file, you'll find tags that look like this:
    <stCamera:CameraRawProfile>True</stCamera:CameraRawProfile>
    or this
    <stCamera:CameraRawProfile>False</stCamera:CameraRawProfile>
The first is for raw files, the second for JPEGs.  There can be many such tags in each lcp file.
What I did was copy all the Sigma-generated profiles and replace all those tags in the copies.  Voila!  JPEG profiles for Sigma lenses.

  • The chromatic aberration checkbox that should be under lens corrections is missing

The chromatic aberration check box that should be present under lens corrections is missing from my LR4 program, can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to get it back

What version of LR4 are you using? There was a change made to the CA removal process in LR4.1, and the "Remove Chromatic Aberration" check box is now under the "Color" tab of the Lens Correction panel.

  • Lens correction time out bug w7 , solved disabled Desktop Composition

    i 'm running photoshop cs5 under windows 7 ultimate 32bit
every time , i run the lens correction filter i got a time out error
today i tried to run photoshop ,i checked in the compatibility disable desktop composition and the error disapeard
with disable desktop composition do i lose some photoshop feature , colors and so on?
because when i run it now , w7 pop up a warning
    thanks

You should normally be able to run Photoshop with Aero enabled.  I suspect your video drivers may need updating.  What video card/interface do you have, and what version drivers?
Also, how much memory does your video card have on it?  You may also find some improvement by altering the Advanced OpenGL Mode in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog, e.g., changing from "Normal" to "Basic".

  • Lens correction bug, bad artifacts with contrast adjustments...

Something has changed between LR3 and LR4 in the processing chain for lens corrections.  Doing an extreme correction (e.g. using a LCP for a fisheye lens) with increased contrast causes bad halos at contrast edges.  The effect doesn't occur with the same settings on LR3.  It is almost as if the LCP is being applied after the basic controls rather than before?!?!?!?!
    Ken

So I did a bit more checking.  It is actually the highlights slider that does it - contrast just makes it more obvious.  It is as if the highlights "masking" is getting created in the pre-transformed data and then distorted in some way when going through and extreme LCP like with a fish-eye.  Here is an example, contrast at 100 and the "Strong Contrast" tone curve used in both.  The one of the left has highlights at 100.  Notice the "shadows" in the sky of the leaves, as if the mask was somehow stretched differently from the image data.  This was with a fisheye lens and fisheye LCP.  You can actually recreate the problem to a degree yourself with any image.  Just apply any of the fisheye lens profiles from Adobe (Nikon 10.5mm for example) and look at high contrast regions near the edges of the frame with highlights set to 100%.  You'll see shadows like this (again, easier to see with extreme contrast settings).  Without an extreme profile applied no such effect.

  • Does sending as PSD from LR 3.3 to PS CS4 send lens corrections and other edits?

I shoot RAW files with my Canon XTi (400D) and G12. I have a copy of Creative Suite 4 and am using it with Lightroom 3.3, which adds some goodies that ACR for CS 4 doesn't support, like being able to understand the G12's RAW files, plus doing profile-based lens corrections, improved noise reduction, etc.
If I use PSD as the format to send images back and forth among Lightroom and Photoshop, are they in synch in terms of what the image looks like, including the advanced features I just mentioned? Is there any reason to use TIFF instead of PSD?
I'd like to postpone moving to CS 5 until I'm better able to afford it - the question really is whether LR 3.3 can serve as a substitute for ACR 6.3 by writing an equivalent PSD with all the advanced features done for PS by LR instead of ACR.

I have worked with the combination of LR 3.3 and CS4 for a while.
These two are not fully compatible.
CS4 cannot read the ACR (RAW) file of LR 3.3. So when you edit a RAW-file, LR creates a PSD  that is then opened in CS4.
In CS5 the RAW image is opened (as RAW) and a PSD / TIFF is created when you save your edits.
Furthermore: Lens corrections are not read by CS4 - or not completely.
I have never found a difference in quality of behaviour between TIFF or PSD, although some sources I've read say that it's better to save in PSD as it is the native format of PS.

  • When making adjustments with lens correction, the crop isnt contrained to the image

When I first installed CC I was able to rotate, or adjust the image in lens correction and it would automatically crop to the available image dimensions.
But I deselected the contrain to image section in crop mode, and since then it hasnt work, even though contrain to image in crop tool has since been re-selected, many times.
    Any idea whats wrong?

Thanks!  All of my shots for this current interior shoot are panoramic.  At a halt until I can resolve this.

  • Lens Correction Profiles: Pasting develop settings in bridge yields inconsistent crop

    Hello Everyone,
I recently discovered lens correction profiles which have been a real benefit to me in my most recent batch of images shot at 16mm on a Canon 5d MII. The lens distortion isn't always spot on, but it is a huge headstart most of the time.
I bracket photos for HDR and will apply all my crop settings to one image in the bracketed series and afterwards psate the settings onto all the others in the series. This works great.
However, once I started using Lens Correction Profiles, when I paste the crop setting onto the subsequent images, the crop is in a different position. I was completely baffled. But after some fiddling around, I noticed that if I manually open each of the subsequent images, remove the crop, uncheck and recheck the Lens Correction Profile, and reapply the crop, it is consistent with the first. This leads me to believe that somewhere in the Paste Setting sequence, it is doing the crop out of order. (As if it is cropping the image and THEN applying the lens correction--which yeild different results.)
(As a item of note, when I mean cropping, I use the automatic crop obtained by highlighting the entire area of the image after applying lens corrections so as to only crop out the grey areas acquired by shifting the image around while still maintaining aspect ratio.)
Is there any way we can get the pasting to paste so as to make these subsequent images identical to the original image? Or am I missing something?

Normally, when you apply a lens correction profile, there shouldn't be any visible gray areas around the border of the image.
Are you saying this is not the case?
Are you making additional distortion or keystoning adjustments (e.g., in the manual tab)?

  • Odd Issue Editing in Photoshop with color and lens corrections

First off, I'm on LR 4.4 and PS CS6 (Camera Raw 7.4.0.137) using ProPhoto RGB as my LR colorspace and have my PS color settings as Working Space: ProPhoto RGB and my color management policies to preserve embedded profiles.
When I right click on a DNG in LR and choose "Edit in Photoshop", LR sends it to PS and PS does its "Reading in Camera Raw Format" and opens the image.  However, the colors are off (very muted) and any lens corrections I've applied in LR are missing.  My monitor (iMac on OSX 10.8) is calibrated with a Spyder.  I've also noticed that if I choose to edit in another application, it renders the tiff fine and the color and lens corrections are correct in the tiff.
Anyone have any ideas what my issue is?
    Thanks,
    Matt
ETA: After some experimenting, it seems that the "Adobe Standard" profile is what gets sent to Photoshop.  The rest (Camera Landscape, Portrait, etc.) are ignored. What's going on here?

Sounds like you need to reset your warning dialog. Preferences>General>Prompts [Reset all warning dialogs]
Then try it again and make certain of the three choices you are Editing a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments.
