Lens error message on a Powershot SX500 IS....HELP

lens wont work need a way to reboot

Hi Johnfaris,
I am sorry to hear about the error message on your PowerShot SX500 IS.
This error indicates an internal error has occurred.  Sometimes this can happen if the battery runs very low while the camera attempts to power off.  Please try using an alternate or fully charged battery in the camera to make sure this was not the cause.  If the battery is fully charged, try removing it for a few minutes.  If the error still displays on your camera, then it will need to be serviced.
To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.

  • Lens error message

I have a PowerShot A495 camera. It has been working properly since I purchased about 2 years ago but recently a lens error message has been appearing on switching the camera on and it closes immediately. What could the problem and what should I do?

Fix #1: Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. If that didn't work, try pressing and holding the Function or OK button while turning the camera on.
Fix #2: Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install new batteries, and turn on the camera. If you get an Error E30, it means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in the memory card and turn it on one last time.
Fix #3: Insert the cameras Audio/Video (AV) cable, and turn the camera on. Inserting this cable ensures that the camera's LCD screen remains off during the start process. Thus extra battery power is available to the camera's lens motor during startup. This extra power can be useful in overcoming grit or sand particals that may be jamming the lens. If the AV cable doesn't fix the lens error by itself, consider keeping this cable installed while trying fixes 4, 5, and 7 as a means to provide extra help to these fixes. But note that I DON'T recommend keeping the cable installed during Fix 6 as you may damage the AV port while tapping the camera. Reinsert the cable only AFTER tapping the camera.
Fix #4: Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling. Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to autofocus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots.
Fix #5: Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in "no heat" setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one).
Now we're entering into the realm of potentially damaging your camera in conducting the fix. There is definitely some risk here, so take care when conducting the following two fixes.
Fix #6: Repeatedly tap the padded/rubber usb cover on a hard surface with the intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens. Other variations include hitting a side of the camera against the palm of your hand. A lot of people have reported success with this method. HOWEVER, there is also some potential for damaging or dislodging internal components with this method, such as unseating ribbon cables, or cracking LCD screens.
Fix #7: Try forcing the lens. More people have reported success with this method than with any of the other methods. HOWEVER, there's obviously some potential for damaging your camera by using this method. Variations include gently pulling, rotating, and/or twisting the lens barrel while hitting the power button. Attempt to gently straighten or align the barrel if it's crooked or twisted. Another variation includes looking for uneven gaps around the lens barrel, and then pushing on the side of the lens barrel that has the largest gap (note pushing the lens barrel all the way in is NOT recommended as it may become stuck there). While doing any of the above, listen for a click that indicates that the lens barrel guide pins may have reseated in their guide slots. If you hear this click, immediately stop and try the camera.
I found the above by using a web search engine called "Google" by typing your camera brand, model number and "lens error" hope this helps.

    Hi Lidmar,
First, please try this:  Remove the battery pack from the camera and close the battery compartment.  Now Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds.  Replace the battery pack and turn the camera on.
If your camera works normally, you're ready to start shooting.  If the issue persists, we recommend that you send your camera in for service.  You may arrange service for your camera here.

  • Error Message= x Cannot find the HTML help browser installed on your system.

Help! I cannot seem to find the solution for the error message I get when trying to generate a layout in Microsoft HTMl Help (Primary Layout). I am using the trial version, but it didn't seem to be an issue for anyone else in my class that was also using the trial version.
The error message states, "Cannot find the HTML help browser installed on your system."
    Thank you!

Sounds like a problem with the installation of RoboHelp on those machines. When you install RoboHelp, it installs the necessary files to view a CHM.

    You are welcome, Sharon.
You should be aware that the newest version, CC, is only available as a subscription.
CS6 can be purchased at Adobe, or second hand, see below.
Older versions such as CS5 can only be bought second hand, with a licence transfer through Adobe, requiring that the licence has not been used as a basis for an upgrade.

Not sure if you are trying to upgrade iCloud storage to make more room for the upgrade, but that won't help you. If you do not have enough room on your device for the upgrade, then you have to delete some things off of your device. You can also try to do the upgrade via iTunes on the computer you sync with. A direct upgrade does not require as much memory as a Wifi upgrade.
Upgrading iCloud storage only provides more storage for your backups and for your iCloud sync'd items like messages, contacts, etc.
Until the iCloud Drive is fully functional, iCloud will not help you to increase the memory capacity of your device.
And, right now, the iCloud servers may just be overloaded with activity.

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and was told by Apple that Keynote and Pages were compatible with MS Applications.. I have since tried to open a Powerpoint Presentation but it comes up with an error message and is not right. Help!

If there are fonts, transitions, builds, video or audio in the PowerPoint file that are not compatible with Keynote, it will either prevent the presentation opening or Keynote will substitute the settings causing playback changes.
I use Open Office to play and open any PowerPoint files sent to me, they play exactly as in PowerPoint.
Open Office is free, you can download it here:

  • T2i Lens error message, now not taking pics

About a week ago my t2i gave me an error message saying it could not read the lens. Switched out to a different lens and it worked fine for about another week. Now it's struggling to take pictures. Any thoughts on what to do next? Would a good cleaning take care of the issue?

A camera will allow the shutter to activate even without any lens attached at all.
Remove the lens, press the shutter button. Does this work? If so, the the problem is likely the lens. It's possible theres a communication error on the camera side, but it's FAR more likely on the lens side because that's where all the moving parts are located.
Specifically which lens(es) are you using?
Check the pins on the camera (and these AE spring-loaded.). Make sure they spring in and out easily and that none are jammed.
If the pins or contacts are obviously dirty then you can clean with a soft cloth (don't use anything abbrasive.... The gold plating is thin and easy to rub off if cleaned too aggressively). Usually it is not dirty contacts. These problems are mostly inside the lens and the lenses often need service to repair.

  • Error message withg sync, tried everything, nothing helped. Please help me.

Gets error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to". It will put on about 15-30 songs before displaying this message, and can fully sync but it takes forever because i have to press "ok" than "sync" every 15-30 songs. already tried to send it back for a warranty replacement but they said there is nothing wrong. i tried everything, restored, zeroed out ipod disk, reloaded itunes, and all over again about 10 times

Ran into the same error message while attempting to synch an iTunes purchased movie to my son's 5th Gen Video iPod from my G5 Tower (OSX 10.4.11). Here's what worked:
Restored his iPod to factory settings. Noticed that this included having the iPod enabled for disk use (this box was not checked previously -- when we were getting the error message). Reselected which playlists and videos to synch, applied the synch settings, then waited (with crossed fingers and a few prayers to boot!). It worked. No error messages.
Note: the iPod synch cable is plugged directly into one of the USB2 ports on the back of the G5 tower -- not into one on the 3rd party PCI expansion cards I installed to add more USB2 & Firewire ports (not sure if this is relevant, but it seems so based on your discussion thread here). Hope this helps.
