Lens profile downloader issue with download target dirs (Win7)

Hi,
I installed LPD on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and did some downloads.
Now I find that this does not work very nicely.
a) All downloads end up in adirectory "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded".
This is not really where Lightroom is able to find them. The Software is looking in "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\[Maker]"
b) While the preinstalled profiles have nice speaking names, the downloads for no obviuos reasons get a cryptic name. such as "92713070afd245e19b229e409f089b38.lcp", which makes moving the files to the right place not a fun job, since its not obvious what the content is.
Anyone with similar or other experience under Win 7?
I think the first issue is due to LPD trying to save profiles to the right place but not having the rights to do so. The "Roaming" dirs in Windows usually are meant for this I think.
Any ideas how to solve it?

Lens Profiles under the ...Roaming are findable by LR/ACR and this is the normal place, so a profile ending up there is by design not because of some system error.  It is a distinct location to keep them separate from the vendor-supplied profiles.
The gibberish for the name is to keep files from different sources but with the same name from overwriting each other.  The file is XML so you can certainly look inside the file to see what it is for and rename it to something you like better.
Do your downloaded profiles not work as you're expecting or are you just seeing things you wonder about and suggesting there could be a problem?

  • Lens Profiles, have issues with the Fish Eye lens profile.

So this weekend I had a lot of fun backing up 56,000 images onto a brand new 4 TB Seagate external hard drive, I previously had them on a smaller external. Anyway, I noticed when I went back into LR that some, not all with no rhyme or reason,  that the image would change ie. in the Lens profile I noticed that the value went from whatever lens I shot with. To of all lens profiles the Fisheye Profile. I started going back in and changing the profile back, however I noticed that you can only change one at time. Even when I change one back, copy it and sync only the image I choose last would change. If I have to go in and change ever image that happens too, Yikes !!!
Does anyone have any ideas maybe deleting the fish eye profile, if I could find it?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Yes, if a profile can be found that matches, it will be applied, at 100% for all three sliders.
Conversely, if you for instance don't want your fisheye to be defished, you open an image taken with that lens, move the distortion slider to 0%, and save that as a new default. Now, "Auto" would put the distortion slider at 100% while Default will leave it at 0%.
If you don't make any changes to the standard settings and don't save any new defaults, they are both identical.
    Hope this makes sense.

I am also having problems trying to install Lens Profile Downloader 1.0.1. I receive the following error message:
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance.
I updated to the latest version of Adobe Air, I uninstalled the previous (1.0) version of Lens Profile Downloader (dragged it to the trash and emptied the trash), and I rebooted my Mac. I have tried downloading the file and rebooting my Mac several times and get the same error message every time. Any other suggestions?

  • Trouble trying to use Adobe Lens Profile Downloader

    Hi
Ive got a legal copy of Lightroom, downloaded & installed Air, downloaded and installed Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, got 2 Adobe accounts but cannot get either account to log in using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, so I cannot even start to download lens profiles.
    Any suggestions please?
Is there a place or way to download the profiles without using Adobe Lens Profile Downloader?
PS if I go to photoshop.com as indicated in Adobe Lens Profile Downloader, neither account logs me in even though Ive reset both passwords from photoshop.com, but both log me in on adobe.com, hence me being able to post here!

I am going to create some profiles since the profiles are not available for my camera. Once they are created on your computer you can upload them to the Adobe library using the downloader to share with the rest of the community. In other words the downloader will provide a means for you to manage your profiles on your computer those that you have and those that you don't have and those that you want to delete or replace. Note that there is a delete and submit button. I do not have any created yet to upload/submit but I would suspect that when you wanto to submit a profile you will be required to login. I tried this to submit a rating and comments and got the same message about not being able to login.

  • Adobe Lens profile Downloader doesn't install on Mac OS/X

I want to include Zuiko Olympus and panasonic/Leica lens profiles to be used inside Lightroom 4.3
I try to install Adobe Lens Downloader 1.0.1.air and get an error during the installation process
I am using the last release of AdobeAIR.dmg
    My O/X is  10.6.8
Soory the image is in French ...so here is the translation for US readers
    "Sorry, an error has occurred.
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been misconfigured. Please contact the application author for assistance."
    Any ideas?
    Francis

I have the same problem on Windows 7 Pro, its not about McIntosh, its probably an "Air-Error".
When I started Lens Profile Downloader, an Air update prompt popped up. So I updated Air to v3.3 if my memory serves, after which yet another Air update prompt appeared, this time to version 3.6. I installed that one too.  After which I found on Adobe web pages Lens Profile Downloader 1_0_1, but ONLY as an *.air file, no *.exe.
Ah well, why to go the simple way, lets develop our own "downloader" of a "kind 3000 and 7", and maintain it, just like every camera just have to have its own raw format.
With this *.air file and the Air 3.6 I also get this installation error:
I suppose we have to get an older air version, or just wait for the version 3.7 or something...

  • Lens Profile Downloader Feedback

I'm curious to know what people think about Adobe's Lens Profile Downloader. Are people using it? What do you think of it? Are people even aware of it?
I think it has great potential. Adobe's been trying to play catch-up after releasing the Profiler (profiles are time-consuming to make, and there was no clear or easy way to request profiles from Adobe or the larger community).
However, it definitely feels a little half-baked. The need for selecting a profile based on the camera model is was built with is slim (if I am a D300 owner, I am equally interested in profiles created with the D90 or D300s, as well as the D7000 and so on). More importantly, there's no field for LENS MAKE. Hello? This means that if Nikon/Canon/Sony, Sigma, Tokina, and Tamron all decide to make a 12-24mm f/4 lens, there's no easy way to figure out which one the listed profile is actually for. More oddities: Apple listed under Camera Make? And a random half of the brands' names in full uppercase?
Here's the info we need when selecting a lens profile for RAW conversion:
    Camera Make
    Lens Make
    Lens Model
    Crop Factor
RAW or JPEG (do people use lens profiles for JPEG correction?)
Camera Model (only necessary for JPEGs or if crop factor is unknown)
    Profile Creator
    Profile Creation Date
    User Rating & Comments
    Cheers,
    Cory
    coryschoolland.com

The reason there is no selection for Lens Make is that, until very recently, it was not a standard EXIF field. Even with EXIF 2.3, manufacturers are generally not filling in the field. So there's nothing to search for, unfortunately.
Apple is listed because of the iPhone models.

  • Lens profile downloader - error message

    Hi all,
I just discovered that there is now a Lens Profile Downloader application.  So, I downloaded and installed it successfully but I can't get the application to do anything.  It loads OK to a blank grid screen but when I choose any make of camera from the drop down list box in the top left, I get the error message "Loading Profiles Failed"
It seems like a fairly simple application so I'm sure I am overlooking something obvious.   Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
PS - I have version 1.0 of the applications and run WinXP+SP3

    Hi Simon,
I tried a different computer, using a different internet connection and I was able to view the profiles in ALPD. This other computer has AVG firewall through Virgin Media cable broadband (UK).   This worked for a while but fails all the time now.  I can still see photoshop.com though.    The other computer uses Virgin Media mobile broadband.
I don't try the ALPD very regularly as I am a Sony Shooter and there aren't too many Sony profiles up there anyway.  (I wish I had the resources to make a few profiles, but with 3 children under 6, life is a bit hectic!)
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Lens Profile Downloader question

I have downloaded the latest version of Adobe Lens Profile Downloader 1.0.1, and I have AIR installed (as required), but the downloader won't install. It gives the message "The application cannot be installed due to a certificate problem. ..."
What should I do to get it to install?
    Steve

Thanks for your response. I followed the link, and unfortunately the particular problem of failure to install wasn't solved there either.
I found another link for a similar certificate problem (involving installation of another Adobe product) and the advice was to uninstall Adobe Download Manager and reinstall the latest version. However when I went to the oOntrol Panel (Windows 7), there is no listing to indicate that Adobe Download Manger is installed.
It is all rather strange, as I have the earlier version of Lens Profile Downloader installed and it works fine (I am familiar with profiles and have created my own, which I have shared on the Adobe server).

  • Lens profile downloader dead? Poor Adobe support and communications?

I wonder if any Adobe Support for the Lens Profile Downloader and user generated profiles has ended silently?
I did create a Profile and sent it to the email adress but never received any reaction by a sentient being and the Profile was not published in the downloader.
Does anyone know how to publish a profile these days?
Adobe itself seems abysmally slow in Publishing profiles for DSLR lenses these days, so the only Workaround is to do it on our own.
Did I miss  a message that said the lens Profile creator and downloader was abandoned?

    A couple things:
    1)  ACR 8.4 will show if a built-in profile has been applied and what corrections have been applied, so if you want to post a raw file from your camera and lens combination someone with PS / ACR 8.4 can give feedback about what built-in profiles might be doing.
    2)  Regarding the X100S, using ACR 8.4 RC, for an example image I downloaded, the built-in profile corrected Chromatic Aberration and Vignetting.  The Adobe-supplied external profile corrected Vignetting and Geometric Distortion.  So the Adobe-supplied profile does additional Geometric Distoration compared with the built-in profile.  However, there was double-correction for Vignetting so one has to turn off the vignetting correction for the particular lens profile to avoid double-correction.  Here is a side-by-side example showing these corrections:
This double-correction of vignetting appears to be have been corrected in the final ACR 8.4 and presumably LR 5.4.

  • Downloading the Lens Profile Downloader (AIR, 1.0 MB)

I have made 4 attempts to download this program for Windows 7 and CS5 (64 bit). I have successfully downloaded Adobe Air as required. However, when I try to open LensProfielDowloader.swf I get an error message. It won't let me copy and past the message so here it is in my own words.  "Adobe Reader cannot open LensProfileDownloader.swf because the file has been damaged."
Is there aproblem at Adobe's end with this program? Anyone have any ideas? WIthout this program I have no access to lens profiles created by individuals and shared with Adobe.
    Thanks Paul

    What browser are you using?
So you downloaded the Lens Profile downloader from here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lensprofile_creator.html
Double clicked on the installer and the installer completed?
You probably have a shortcut on the desktop or under All Programs from the start menu.
What happens when you double click on that shortcut?

  • Tokina 11-16 lens profile-download question

Lens profile downloader_p3_102510.air  then clicking on this did not produce any results ....although AdobeAir is on the hard drive ...so I downloaded on 7/12 the AdobeAirInstaller so it might be that my air version is old since its a version 1.## and this download indicates a higher version.
So the only way to download a lens profile is with this downloader ?    OR
lensprofile_creator_p3_win_042711.zip  Does this have the capacity to view shared lens profiles and download?
Does this downloader go automatically to the storage location and produce a list from which to choose?
The Tokina lens arrived yesterday along with a 7D and I didn't value the lens profile corrections until I had to adjust a wide view of a building, one of the first test shots.
I have to admit I'm a little nervous about the above installs and then searching for the lens profile download . Its likely the AIR feature since in the past I did get errors in the event log connected with AdobeAir.
I guess I'm double checking on routines that others have used.
    Rose

I cannot figure out how the download is to begin. I have clicked on Download....the bar fills with a colour and no file arrives on my hard drive.
You need to click on the gold box near the top right of the screen that says 'Upload file.' You will be prompted to create a "free account."
OHho...factory built in tilt....is that so?....I have wondered about that because its just TOO consistent and I have lined up with an object on occassion. Good info to include the tilt into the preset.
Shoot a picture of a window frame that nearly fills the viewfinder and make sure it is perfectly lined up on all four sides. Using a tripod helps. If you see a tilt, then you have the factory assembly defect of a "tilted" viewfinder image. Don't be surprised if it is also a little off-center! My 300D viewfinder is tilted clockwise and to the right slightly. Canon repair may be able to adjust it, but since it was so slight I never bothered.
AND specifics according to the camera serial number... I haven't had to deal with that to date but I have read about it,so its good that the code refers to the camera serial number rather than having to make specific settings.
Please read my correction note – There is no need to do this unless you own two of the same camera model and need to set the defaults differently for each.
I've just used the Jao, Nikon profile on a few Lake Huron sunset shots and a slight correction was made but I still had a tilt ....the lake was running downhill to the north <grin>
You are confusing "rectilinear distortion" such as "barrel" and "pin cushion" distortion with "perspective distortion!" ALL super wide-angle lenses can exhibit significant perspective distortion in different shooting situations, which can be very useful for "creative effects." Vertical perspective distortion is created when the camera is tilted up or down, and Horizontal perspective distortion is created when the camera pointed left or right of a central object. Go into Lightroom Develop module>Lens Correction>'Manual' and move the 'Vertical' and 'Horizontal' adjustments. This applies digital image processing to "correct" your picture, similar to what an expensive tilt-shift lens does on-the-camera
Even when you correct your picture elements for "parallel" vertical and horizontal lines, a super wide-angle lens may still exhibit what appears to be a "distorted perspective." That's both the virtue and deficit of shooting with short focal length lenses – It's up to you to properly apply this creatively to your subjects….but that’s a whole other subject! There are some good tips here by Ken Rockwell:

  • Lens Profiles for the Fuji X-E2 and the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader

I just picked up an Fujifilm X-E2 and an 18mm f/2 lens.  I noticed that LR 5.4 doesn't have a profile for this lens/body combination and I'm a little unclear whether it is applied automatically (as was the case with the X100s prior to 5.4), or not.
I also noticed that I can download profiles for the X-E1/18mm combination using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader and wondered if this was a correct thing to do.
    Thank you,
    Robert

    A couple things:
    1)  ACR 8.4 will show if a built-in profile has been applied and what corrections have been applied, so if you want to post a raw file from your camera and lens combination someone with PS / ACR 8.4 can give feedback about what built-in profiles might be doing.

  • Lighroom 5 lens profile downloader

I used the lens profile downloader to find a profile for a sony sal16105 lens.  I download it and it reports "installed".  Bur=t doesn't show up in lens correction panel and not in the lens prfile folder. I dont know the file name (except it's an lcp file) so can't search for it. Help.

The lens profiles are file type specific i.e  RAW files or rendered files like jpeg or tiff.
What file type are you working with? The majority of the lens profiles are for RAW files.

  • Adobe Lens Profile Downloader 1.0.1

  • "Lens Profile Downloader" Installation

Anyone know the steps for installing the "Lens Profile Downloader" (LPD)?
Instructions at Adobe Labs for installing LPD mention that Adobe AIR must be present prior to clicking a .AIR file which (presumably) exists within the ZIP file one downloads from the site. However, no .AIR file exists within the ZIP file.

Rename the .zip file to .air. The download manager of the browser messed up the file extension. Make sure the resulting downloaded file is named lensprofile_downloader_p3_102510.air.
