Lens won't release

I have a new 70D, my first upgrade since the 20D over a decade ago.  I have had the camera for about a week now, and have noticed that the lenses fit much more snug than they did on my old DSLR.  Today, I attached an 18-135 lens to the body, and now I can not remove it.
I can depress the lens release button, and turn the lens just enough to get it off the lock position, but that is as far as it will turn.  Anyone have any suggestions about how to safely get this lens off?  Or is there a secondary release that I just don't know about on this body that I am not depressing?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This problem is usually the result of a screw coming loose on either the body or lens in the mount areas. There isn't much you can do but it might be a good idea to try removing the lens with it pointing straight up or straight down. Thet may let the screw fall away from whatever it's jamming against. If that doesn't work I think it has to go the Canon's Service people.

  • Lens won't work

    I have a 24 - 105 USM lens on my  Canon 5D
    It now only works on 24 mm. On any other zoom setting, the mirror goes up but won't come back down until I switch the camera off.
    The problem is connected to the fact that the depth of field preview button doesn't work either. Pressing it closes the iris, but it gets stuck and won't release.
    Do not reply to this message unless 1) you have had experiance of this problem and 2) you can suggest what I might try myself for a simple fix.
    Thanks.

    Error 01.   Bingo!  It means there is a lens communication error.
    But you need to call Canon, first, if the problem is in the 5D as I am not sure they still work on it.  If it is the lens' fault, they do.
    IMHO, it is almost never dirty contacts.  But, hey, it is worth a try, it could be.

  • Drag and drop, it won't release the file.

    Upon booting up my 15"MBP with osx Lion, when I drag and drop a file, it won't release the file.  This happens across files, other programs, etc. The only fix is to put the computer to "sleep", then when it turns back on drag and drop works fine.
    Is there a fix for this issue?  It happens on every boot up.

    To clarify, it's not just Air DIsplay but any third-party video driver. When any of these is installed (not even necessarily active) on a MBP5,1, MBP5,2, or MBP5,3, you'll have this issue. The workaround is detailed here: Air Display on Lion with NVIDIA 9400/9600

  • My camera lens won't open on my phone, any ideas?

    My camera lens won't open on my iphone 4s, does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I have cleared out all of my photos, and updated my phone.  The camera screen will open, but lens will not, and I cannot take any pictures or videos.  I use this feature a lot and really need to get it fixed.  Thanks

    Basic trouble shooting steps in the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.  Have ALL these steps already been tried?

  • Track pad won't release after dragging

    My magic trackpad has developed a problem.  Whenever I try to drag something, either a window, or a graphic in Photoshop, trackpad refuses to let go.  I suspect this has been slowly worsening.  pressing the button on the side of the trackpad sometimes fixes this but sometimes it doesn't. Is this a hardware or a software issue?  Any suggestions on ways of correcting this?

    I haver run macKeeper to see if this is a virus or trojan and apparently its not.
    Do not install MacKeeper
    I can select an image or multiple images from the desk top but the track pad won't release them when i try and click to drop them.
    Create a new user account and log into it, does the problem continue?
    If so, then take it to Apple your battery is likely swellling.

  • Won't release applications at shutdown

    I'm having some difficulty with Leopard on a G5 dual 1.8 tower. I can't shutdown the computer; it doesn't release the applications but instead keeps everything open. Force quit doesn't release the apps either.
    There was one complication at install I suspect is the culprit.
    The G5 comes standard with an 80gb hard drive. I had put a 300gb into the second slot. At the time of install I put Leopard onto the 300gb, and used the migration utility to move all the apps over to the new home drive. Leopard offered to do this on the first boot. The idea was to make the 300gb my new home drive, and replace the 80 with something more functional.
    Should I reinstall all the apps? Or the system disk? Any thoughts?

    Well when you ordered it it was supposed to be by 6/24 so in reality it'll be there the day they originally said. It does stink that they've got it and won't release it but the day you ordered it you figured on the 24th so just try and think good thoughts until tomorrow. Legal recourse? It's probably not worth the trouble and even though I'm not a lawyer I doubt you've got any..... legal recourse that is.

  • Lens won't extend, Camera won't power up

    Canon PowerShot WX160IS
    Camera was dropped and the lens won't extend when I turn it on.   I've cleaned around the lens, pressed the power and shutter at the same time, and tapped with the power button pressed.  Any further suggestions?
    Thank you!
    Andrea

    Sorry to have to tell you it sounds like a service job... the lens system is a complexed affair with several moving parts powered by a motor,  whether it would be viable to have repaired no one can say until the problem has been diagnosed, it could quite easily be something next to nothing.
    One thing to do, is to lay it flat on it's back and see if the lens assembly is more or less central,  you only need a small displacement for the whole unit to jam. Should it be off-center you could try very gently teasing it to a central position whilst powering it up - it may work, it may not.
    Grits of sand between the lens assembly has been known to make many a camera stick - not necessarily your model,  for illustration that is the kind of tolerance we're talking about.

  • Firefox 23 won't release windows focus

    Lately, since FF 23.0.1, my "main" FF window (the one where I keep gmail and other pinned tabs), simply won't release the focus to any other Firefox window or any other app at all. To see the other windows, I have to minimize this one.
    I closed it yesterday, and for a while after I reopened, it allowed other things to take focus, but then it stopped allowing again.
    I've tried closing every single tab but a blank one, and it still won't release.
    Any thoughts?
    Running Win7, 64-bit.

    I think so. A couple windows have youtubes that I haven't watched yet. Is that what you mean?
    However, I used to have such open without this issue.
    Also, it continued after I closed all the tabs. Would that not have "fixed" it?

  • Trackpad won't release click immediately after upgrading to 10.6.4

    I haven't been having any problems with my 15"MacBook Pro and I Software Updated to 10.6.4 this afternoon. Now within the first 3 or 4 times I click the Trackpad after rebooting it registers the mousedown but refuses to register the mouseup.
    Details:
    - Using an external mouse is fine until I forget and click the trackpad once. After that no device, trackpad or mouse, will register a click.
    - pressing the esc key will release the mousedown, but won't cause any new trackpad or mouse presses to be recognized.
    - ONLY the trackpad causes the issue, but once triggered it affects all mouse devices.
    - once triggered, putting the computer tom sleep and waking it up does nothing to help the problem, but restarting reliably fixes it until I use the trackpad again.
    - switching applications via command-tab works fine, but mouse presses are still unrecognized after doing so.
    This is a consistent, reproducible problem that renders my computer unusable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Kevin

    I have the same annoying problem, exactly as you describe it. i suspect that the trackpad is broken and I think I had this problem before 10.6.4.
    I found today that it is my trackpad that causes this. I normally use an external monitor, mouse or wacom pen and keyboard. Some stuff and papers were laying on my desktop and was over the trackpad and caused it to be activated. Later testing with my fingers on the trackpad cause the same situation as you describe.
    Only way to get rid of it is a reboot.

  • Paper won't release after printing

    I don't know if it happened after a techie at HP suggested a different driver to access the e-print functions on my HP Envy printer, but some times the paper won't be released after printing.  I have to give it another function, then cancel the function, to get the printout.

    Hi
    I see.
    Have you by chance set the Docked icon to Keep In Dock, found by clicking and holding down on the docked icon?
    Furthermore you say the printer icon stays open showing a green arrow, so is that both the printer utility and the printer both showing in the dock?
    i think normally, there should only be the printer utility, a green open printer symbol doesn't ring a bell, so to speak.

  • How to reduce CompositionElements/RAM consumption, changing MediaElement won't release memory.

    Hello there,
    First of all thanks for such a great framework, its pretty nice architected and really helpfull.
    I've been using media composition elements In custom made player experience,
    What I came across and can't get rid off is memory usage by the flash player whilst media elements are in series and parallel.
    Whenever I try to remove media elements from composition element,
    or add/change/remove mediaElement it won't affect player to release memory.
    'nulling' player media reference, removing element from media container, also won't help.
    Aprox. adding up to twenty media elements causes 400-500 Mb of RAM usage, the more lements the more RAM..
    Could guru's tell me how can I reduce/avoid such an issue, any workaround? (Is that issue related to flash player VideoObject/NetStream scope thats out of OSMF?)
    Any advance will be apreciated.Thank you.

    Hi msrustem,
    It looks like there's indeed a memory build up when using multiple media elements in a serial composition.
    I've currently logged a bug in Jira (link: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FM-1227), and it will go throught a review process (hence I'm not sure when the fix will be out, but as soon as it is, I'll let you know).
    Off the top of my head it looks like the netStreams used to create the serial composition are not reused, but rather new ones are added and cached with every new media element that starts playing, and that could be the cause. However developers need to take a closer look.
    Feel free to check out the bug description and provide additional information if necessary.

  • Timer won't release - What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I am farely new to C#, but not new to programming.  I try to develop a class that need a timer to update a file.  The problem I have is that when the class is release (like a local variable is destroyed when we exit the method), the timer
    is still in function updating the file.  Here is a sample class I wrote that will show you what is happening:
    First, let me tell you that I tried in VS Community 2013 and in VS 2010 with the same result.
    Here is the class:
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using System.Timers;
    namespace TimerDemo
    class MyTimer
    // Var
    private int countVal;
    private string internalId;
    private System.Timers.Timer otimer; // Timer
    // ==================================
    // Property
    // ==================================
    public string Id
    get { return internalId; }
    set { internalId = value; }
    // ==================================
    // Constructor
    // ==================================
    public MyTimer()
    countVal = 0;
    internalId = RandomId(8);
    otimer = new System.Timers.Timer();
    // 2 seconds timer
    otimer.Interval = 2 * 1000;
    otimer.AutoReset = true;
    otimer.Elapsed += new ElapsedEventHandler(timer_Elapsed); // set timer event handler
    otimer.Start();
    // ==================================
    // Timer EVENT
    // ==================================
    private void timer_Elapsed(object sender, ElapsedEventArgs e)
    countVal++;
    // Write to the log
    System.IO.StreamWriter oWriter;
    oWriter = new System.IO.StreamWriter("timerlog.log", true);
    oWriter.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString() + " - Loop # " + countVal + " (Timer #" + internalId + ")");
    oWriter.Close();
    // ==================================
    // Generate random Id
    // ==================================
    private string RandomId(int size)
    StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder();
    Random random = new Random();
    char ch;
    for (int i = 0; i < size; i++)
    ch = Convert.ToChar(Convert.ToInt32(Math.Floor(10 * random.NextDouble() + 48)));
    builder.Append(ch);
    return builder.ToString();
    // ==================================
    // Destructor
    // ==================================
    ~MyTimer()
    otimer.Stop();
    otimer.Enabled = false;
    otimer.AutoReset = false;
    This class simply creates a timer that will write to a file every 2 seconds.  It will write the date and time, the Internal ID and a counter that will increment with each timer loop.
    Now, add a button to a form with the following code:
    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    MyTimer lclTimer = new MyTimer();
    MessageBox.Show("Class ID #" + lclTimer.Id);
    This code will create an object from the class then display a message with the class Internal ID.  When you press OK on the messagebox, the button1_click method ends and the local lclTimer object should be released.  BUT the timer is still writing
    to the file.  In fact, it will continue until you end the program.
    If you press the button again, a new object will be created with a new ID.  The new timer will also update the log file.  We are now with 2 timers that updates the file.  You may press again on the button to create additionnal timers...  but
    you will eventually get an error when two timers try to write to the file at the same time.
    Here is what the file will look like with 3 timers for a few seconds:
    2015-02-24 20:41:27 - Loop # 1 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:29 - Loop # 2 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:31 - Loop # 3 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:33 - Loop # 4 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:34 - Loop # 1 (Timer #86329571)
    2015-02-24 20:41:35 - Loop # 5 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:36 - Loop # 2 (Timer #86329571)
    2015-02-24 20:41:36 - Loop # 1 (Timer #80876526)
    2015-02-24 20:41:37 - Loop # 6 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:38 - Loop # 3 (Timer #86329571)
    2015-02-24 20:41:38 - Loop # 2 (Timer #80876526)
    2015-02-24 20:41:39 - Loop # 7 (Timer #48263556)
    2015-02-24 20:41:40 - Loop # 4 (Timer #86329571)
    2015-02-24 20:41:40 - Loop # 3 (Timer #80876526)
    2015-02-24 20:41:41 - Loop # 8 (Timer #48263556)
    So here is my question:  What did I miss?  How can I make sure the timer is destyoyed when the class is released?  It seems that the .Stop() call don't really stop the timer...
    Thanks.

    Unlike their counterparts in c++, destructors in c# don't get called when an object goes out of scope. Instead, they are called when the Garbage Collector decides to clean up that object if it unused. If an object is attached to a Timer that is still
    running, the Garbage Collector will think that it's still in use and won't try to remove it, so the destructor won't be called.
    Generally speaking, destructors in c# are fairly useless.
    I think you will need to add a Stop method to your MyTimer class and call it explicitly in button1_Click before the object goes out of scope.
    I agree with Ante Meridian. However, rather than implementing a Stop() method, it is common convention to implement Dispose(). This function is explicitly called to indicate "I'm finished with this object, so do what you must to release internal resources
    now, rather than waiting for the garbage collector. Moreover, Dispose() is automatically called if it is used inside a
    using statement, as in the following example:
    using (MyTimer timer = new MyTimer)
    timer.Start ();
    // Do stuff here
    timer.Stop ();
    } // timer.Dispose() automatically called when leaving scope

  • Acrobat won't release a file

    Everyone,
    I'm using visual basic to manipulate a pdf file opened in Acrobat. The code below opens the file and searches for a text string. If it finds the text string, the pages containing are deleted. Once the text string is no longer found, the file is closed, the application is hidden and then exited. All of this works just fine.
    My problem occurs with the last line of code. I want to rename the file and place it in another directory. However, I get a file path error which indicates to me that Acrobat is still holding on to the recently closed file.
    Is there a method to get Acrobat to release the file? Any help is appreciated.

The problem is that I want it to delete the file afterwards to save disk space, but the application doesn't release it. I thought I might just be doing something wrong with the delete function, but even deleting it manually through Windows doesn't work. Any ideas?

  • HT4528 My camera is broken and the lens won't open

    I have tried restoring it and it still won't work

    You have a warranty, it came with your device and the year started the day you activated it (or perhaps bought it)
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/
    contact support, enter your serial number of your device and see what they tell you.
    As to your frozen screen, have you tried to reset it? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. See if you can get it to reboot. If you see a silver apple, it's rebooting.
