Thank you in advance

Are you planning on buying a 50D kit or just the body? Maybe start out with the 50D kit with the 28-135 and buy a 70-300 also. This should give you a good range to start until you find what kind of photography you enjoy. Canon has a good wide angle in the 10-22mm. Its not too expensive ($850 I think).
Lens choices depends on what you are planning to shoot. For example when I shoot weddings (I use Nikon BTW so the lens sizes are Nikon sizes) I use a 14-24 F/2.8 for the formals mainly, 28-70 F/2.8 and a 70-200 F2.8. Alot of times I have to deal with low lighting and some churches actually wont let me use a flash inside the chapel. For motorsports and airshows, I'll bring the 12-24 F/4 (for ground displays at airshows), 70-200 F/2.8, 300mm F/2.8 (for motorsports), 500mm F/4 or the 600mm F/4 for airshows (mostly the 600 goes, but the 500 is fine for the local one since we're closer to the flight box). Senior & family portraits 85mm F/1.4 for seated shots and the 28-70 for the outdoor/hobby shots.

  • Camera RAW Support for Canon EOS 50D

I'm trying to read RAW files from the new Canon EOS 50D in Photoshop. I have Camera RAW v4.5 which is stated to work with the previous 40D, but doesn't seem to work with the 50D...
Has anyone managed to read RAW files from an EOS 50D using Photoshop?
I'm on a Windows PC using Photoshop CS3 version 10.0 with the Camera RAW 4.5.0.175 plug in. I've also tried the DNG converter downloaded with that version of Camera RAW (same ver no.) to no avail.
    Help gratefully received!

    >Win: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS3\File Formats\
is not present (or any near equivalent) on my PC.
If you don't have that exact location then the odds are that your Photoshop/Bridge CS3 install is wrong. The location listed is the correct location for XP and Vista 32 bit. If you have Vista 64, then there is a different location. But, if you have XP or Vista 32 and you don't have that exact location already, then you really need to check the CS3 install.
    > put the CameraRaw.8bi file into Programs/Adobe/CS3/Plug-ins/File Formats/.
And that's the WRONG place to put it...that location will ONLY allow Photoshop to access it, not Bridge. The Camera Raw plug-in MUST be installed in the CORRECT location for both Photoshop and Bridge.

I have Photoshop Eleent 12 and use a Windows PC.  I hae been using a Canon EOS 50D for several years, which uses a Compact Flash Card.  I have always downloaded pictures by using a card reader wich I connect to my computer. I Go to the Organizer, click on "Import" and select "From camera or card reader".  Once on the Photo Downloader, I select the pictures, chose the folder and click on "Get Media" and all the photos get downloaded. Today I folled the same procedure as always, but ZI'm gettig an error message that reads"Import Failed" followed by another message that reads "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this Catalog."  I'm puzzled by this message and don't know what to do o get my photos.  Any suggestions?

The organizer doesn't care where you send your photos when you download them via the downloader or where they happen to be when you first bring them in if you use the Get Photos command, but once your pics are in the Organizer, you *must* move them from within organizer or it can't find them. You don't have to use My Pictures at all if you don't want to, but regardless of the folder where you put your photos, if you want them someplace else, you use organizer to do it.

  • Downloading RAW pictures into Lightroom 2.2 from a Canon EOS 50D

I am having problems trying to download pictures either directly from my Canon EOS 50D, or using a LEXAR card reader.
The preview screen in Lightroom shows the thumbnail images (all have the format IMG_0007.CR2 for example), but when I click on Import, it does not find the images. Import results tell me "the files appear to be unsupported or damaged".
I can view all of the original images on the monitor screen of my camera, and they appear to be fine. The same is true for both flash cards I am using (Sandisc Extreme III 16GB and a 2GB). I'm worried that I cannot retrieve about 400 pitures.
    Any suggestions??? Many thanks. Ben

Thanks to both Sean and John. Unfortunately I still cannot load the Raw files. I tried loading 2.3RC... no difference. I also tried dragging the images from the card reader on to my extrenal drive and then importing, still no luck. I was taking JPG and Raw images simultaneously. I can load the JPEGs with no problem, it's the Raw files that it tells me are unsupported or damaged (in the message Lightroom gives me.) Maybe the Canon EOS50D is too new for 2.3RC???
    Any other ideas??

  • Canon EOS 50D Shoots RAW Video

    Canon EOS 50D Cinema Camera!
Magic Lantern has made it possible to shoot RAW video on the 5 year old Canon EOS 50D. The forgotten 15mp APS-C predecessor to the EOS 60D.
The software is very early in development, but at least one person that has shot with the camera and firmware is quite impressed. EOSHD notes that the camera has hardly any moire or aliasing in early tests and the ISO performance is terrific. The larger pixels on the 15mp sensor really do make a positive difference over the 18mp sensor that we’ve had for years now.
Below is a bit of information of what works well with the current software on the EOS 50D.
    Resolution & Performance.
    Results (24 fps):
    1592×1062 – frame skipping after about 50 frames (67.7MB/s)
    1592×840 – frame skipping after about 480 frames (53.5MB/s)
    1592×720 – no frame skipping (44.3MB/s)
    1320×1062 – frame skipping after about 300 frames (56.1MB/s)
    1320×960 – frame skipping after about 1200 frames (50.7MB/s)
    1320×840 – no frame skipping (44.3MB/s)
    1280×1062 – frame skipping after about 250 frames (54.4 MB/s)
    1280×960 – no frame skipping (49.2MB/s)
    EOS-1 Bodies
Canon doesn’t mention anything about EOS-1 bodies and third party firmware in the above story. However, I have been told Canon would take legal action against anyone publicly releasing unauthorized firmware for the EOS-1 bodies, so this is probably why we haven’t seen any development of such software.

  • When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?

    Hi, all...
The Canon 6D is not in the current list of supported cameras for tethering in Lightroom. When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?
    Thanks
    Steve

To be clear: Lightroom 4.3 now supports Canon 6D Raw files
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/12/lightroom-4-3-now-available.html
Lightroom still does not yet support tethering for Canon 6D

  • Canon (EOS 50D) Picture Styles in LR41

    Hey there,
first let me tell you that I'm familiar with LR concepts. I read a lot about RAW processing, color profiles and stuff. It all makes sense to me.
That having said... I'm unfortunatly quite unhappy with LR's color reproduction. It seems technically very accurate; unfortunatly -- Canon's own "Standard Picture Style" (so OOC JPEGs) are in most cases much nicer to look at, color-wise.
I know it's not me alone having this feeling (just do a quick search).
Adobe provides look-alike profiles (.DCP-files) which are supposed to imitate Canon's Picture Styles. Unfortunatly none of these Adobe-profiles comes close (enough, IMHO) - most annoying thing for me is a strange blue/green cast in darker areas, e.g. shadows in daylight conditions are too bright and too blueish.
Remember, I'm using a EOS 50D (which probably won't get profile updates any more by Adobe, I suppose...)
    So here's my question:
Can I assume that Adobe already did the best they can to match Canon's Picture Style?
    ==> stop dreaming about a "better" "canon-50d-standard.dcp"-file.
Take it or leave it, stop crying.
Or is there a possibility to tweak existing profiles?
    ==> find out how.
    Adobe's DCP editor, dcptool, whatever?
    Thanks for your suggestions!
    Medon

    Hmm, well...
Which one do you like best, which looks worst, and why?
    Pictures A/B/C
All three unchanged except for the different applied profiles.
    Cheers, Medon
    P.S.:
If you'd like to please download them to a folder, so you can flip through them. Side-by-side comparison doesn't reveal the differences so well, IMHO.

  • Are there lenses for Canon Legria HF M52?

I was wondering if there are lenses portable for the Legria HF M52?
I've been searching on the web for quite a long time, but can't really find what I'm looking for.
Every website that looks like selling lenses for the HF M52 seem rather untrustful.
I'm not looking for any particular lense.
    Can somebody help me?
Btw, I'm new here. So please excuse me if this question has been asked before.

I guess those programs are intented for outgoing connections, not incoming connections?
Well, anyways, I managed to solve the problem. Just summing up in case others meet the same problem:
    - Went to Apple Store and bought/installed "OS X Server".
    - Followed the install wizard for the OS X Server.
    - Under "FTP" in OS X Server, turned "On".
    - Under sys prefs/sharing; make sure "Sharing" is activated (which already had been done in my case).
    - Add folder, e.g. "Movies", and enable "read/write" for "everybody" (already done in my case).
    - Back to the OS X Server; changed share to "Movies".
(you can change share options in OS X Server as well, the same way as under sys prefs.).
    - Now over to the Canon camcorder;
         - Use the IP address for the Mac as the FTP server. Port 21.
         - Set up username/password as for the Mac admin account (not sure if required though).
         - Target folder just set to "/" (files transferred directly to "Movies").
With this setup, both AVCHD/MP4 movies were transferred easily to my mac.

  • RAW Camera support for Canon EOS 500D?

I just bought the Canon EOS 500D and now Aperture returns an "unsupported image format" when I shoot in RAW. I have the latest RAWCameraUpdate.pkg with version 2.5.
    Still nothing.
    Help!?

What you can do for now is use Aperture to organize and collect your images while you wait for a RAW update. In the interim, if you need to get images out for printing, email, web, etc. export the master and use the very underrated DPP (Digital Photo Professional) that came with your camera. It does a very good job with RAW conversion of Canon files and actually gives you some advantages over Aperture and ACR/Ligthroom in that it will let you apply your camera technologies that you lose when you shoot RAW over JPEG.
It's rather limited in what it can do in comparison to Aperture or Lightroom, but for simply getting excellent images from your RAW files, with basic edits like cropping, sharpening, and exposure it's very good.

  • Camera Raw for Canon EOS 6D? I use PSE 9.

Where can I download a Camera Raw version wich supports Canon EOS 6D? I use PSE9.
    Peter.

For the EOS 6D you have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) DPP
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • HT4757 installer for canon eos digital rebel xt for mac 7.10.5

I need to know why my camera isnt downloading my photos anymore. I couldn's find my installer, and it should be on my compter. Is there an online download for this camera with this latest system?

BTW - in case anyone is wondering, I've tested this... Canon T1i does work with tethering. (this camera is natively supported by Aperture for purposes of tethering)
For any cases where there is a camera which is not supported directly, there is also a work-around which should work for almost any camera.
Go to the Aperture plug-ins page:  http://www.apple.com/aperture/resources/plugins.html
Look for a plug-in called "Aperture Hot Folders" (direct link is here:  http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/aperturehotfolder.html?cmp )
The plug-in monitors a folder (of your choosing).  Any image which shows up in that folder will automatically be imported into an Aperture project (it's on-the-fly).  Essentially you'd use the Canon EOS Utility to do the tethering, which requires that you pick a target folder where it'll save all pictures you shoot during the tethered session.  You then tell Aperture Hot Folders to monitor that same folder and import any images found into an Aperture project. It gives you the ability to create tethering support for any camera that can do "tethering" even if Aperture doesn't directly support the specific camera (by using the manufacturer's own tethering utility.)

This is a tad OT, but what was your previous experience with B&H and what did they change? Over the ten or so years I've been dealing with them, I've found them to be reliably faster than finding time to drive to the nearest mall. I don't doubt that my location has something to do with that; the shipping services between New York and the Boston suburbs do a remarkably good job. The biggest problem I've had is not being home (or not noticing) when they came around, and having to drive to the absurdly remote locations where they load and unload their trucks.

  • Support for tethered shooting for Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i

I just read online that Apple Aperture 3.1.2 won't tether to my Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i under OS X 10.6.7.  Is this true?  If so, is there a workaround or some software I can install?
