Leopard 10.5.1, ARD 3.2.1, double click on client, client crashes!!!

I have the strangest thing going...ARD Admin 3.2.1 launches, I get my list of clients.
I double click on a client to control ( double click set to control, not observe)
the window for the client opens to a black window. I do not see the desktop
of the client, just black. I close the window, and soon as I do, the client crashes,
and goes to offline.
This is the second weirdness I've had with ARD 3.2.1 under Leopard 10.5.1.
My Leopard install was an update, not an Archive and Install on my MBP.
I plan on trying that, as I'm still having the other issue occur randomly,
(http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1268294&tstart=0)
but any thoughts or is anyone else having the same issue?

I'm not even sure if my problems are the same as anyone else's. I don't get specific errors, but Mail, Safari, Transmission, Full Tilt Poker App, and anything that uses the network causes my MacPro to behave like my crappy old PC. I get rainbow ball of death constantly and have to PowerCycle at least 3-8 times a day depending on how often I use my network.
Won't automatically crash, but Mail just stops out of the blue, Safari will become unresponsive when loading a plugin like flash (YouTube for example), transmission will just stop, same with all net-based apps.
Only error I get through Activity Monitor is that the UserAgent(something) is not responding and is red.
I need my bootcamp, and Time Machine is too useful. I need a fix very soon!! Anyone else going through this?

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between  Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015
Any further assistance will be appreciated

  • Currently using iPhoto 7.1.5   We recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard with updated Quicktime player.  Our videos off our camera no longer open in Quicktime by double clicking.  Any help?

We are running iPhoto 7.1.5 '08.  After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Quicktime Player 10.0, our videos off of our camera no longer open by double clicking.  Any help?

Thank you for your quick reply.  I'll give it a try.  Another workaround I figured out last night is to right click the video, click show file, and then double click the file. Quicktime the plays the video.

  • Double-click running of video files has stopped working in Snow Leopard

Just updated to Snow Leopard and now I can't run QuickTime via a double click on a video file in an iPhoto 08 event. If I use Show File to bring up the Finder, then I can run with QuickTime X. Who wants to do that every time??
    Anyone know the answer?
    Regards
    Simon

It's a bug introduced with SL. Send a report of the problem to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Look in System Preferences, Appearance pane.
See if the "Double-click a window's title bar to minimize" is checked.

    Just for your information.
Rorohiko Ltd. has just released a new version of Soxy, which lets you do just this.
If you don't know what Soxy does, here is a brief description:
There’s a common problem when there are multiple versions of applications like Adobe® InDesign®, QuarkXPress®, Adobe Illustrator®… installed on the same computer.
Double-clicking a file’s icon will often cause the wrong application version to launch. As a result, you might unwittingly re-save a document into a more recent file format, which could be a bad thing. Maybe it’s a customer file, and the customer might not be able to open the updated file when you e-mail it back to them.
Soxy acts like an interceptor when opening documents and redirects the files to the appropriate applications of your choice.
Our latest version has an option in the preferences that lets Soxy override the Finder's behaviour when there are '#' characters in an InDesign file name.
You can download our latest version of Soxy from the Rorohiko website:
    http://www.rorohiko.com/soxy/

  • Copy Leopard Parental Controls through ARD

I have around 150 newer iMacs all running Leopard that I need to change the parental controls on. I have been searching for a way to change the parental controls on all of them at once through ARD, but I have only found a way to do this for Tiger, not Leopard. Simply copying one managed account's application access plist has not worked even after repairing permissions. Anyone have any ideas?

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8463817
This is the link to a thread that I found that had the solution that I was looking for. HUGE thanks to biovizier for the information and the answer to my problems!

  • Clean Leopard Server install- no ARD

I have a clean install of Sever 10.5.4
I have setup the remote management in the system preference.
I have 3 admin users (all with different names)
The server will not let me ARD or SSH in from any of the users on the local network or over the internet. Server Admin & Workgroup manager both work.
    What gives?
    Ideas??

  • ARD 3.2 doesn't correctly show available clients

We have over 500 student laptops which we manage via multiple copies of ARD both in the IT department as well as selected faculty.
We have noticed that often ARD will not indicate that any client machines are online, when in fact we know that there many on-line. Sometimes, just quitting and relaunching ARD will resolve the issue. But we have a few copies of ARD which continue to erroneously show that all the clients are offline regardless of our best efforts.
Does anyone else see this same behavior, and/or have a solution?
    Tnx

Yes! ARD 3.2 has been behaving strange ever since I installed it on my admin system running Leopard. It will misrepresent that status of workstations until I select the workstation- it will then update the status. Sometimes even the system I select changes to an entirely different system! Quitting and relaunching ARD will resolve the issue but that is not a solution.
In addition, it does not correctly report software versions anymore. When installed on my admin desktop that is an Xsan client and running 10.4.11, it attempts to use the metadata network for management! (I'm not sure if earlier versions of ARD did this as I've always run it from my laptop, but it's crazy regardless.)
ARD has been a rock solid performer in the past, so it's deeply disappointing how buggy it has become.
Sorry I can't offer a solution, but you are not the only one finding ARD 3.2 buggy.
    Best
    Jen

  • Very new to ARD. Quick question re: Cannot connect to client

I will try to be brief here. I have a MacBookPro running ARD 3. I stay in conntact with my 86 year old mom with iChat and have controlled her emac with ARD 2.2 in the past. She has moved to a new home and nothing changed on her machine. I upgraded to the ARD 3.0, yet all passwords remained the same. When I try to connect, I see unknown under offline, yet I get an accurate ip address for her machine (had a friend verify it at her end) I am sure this is a simple fix, but being so new to this world of ip stuff, I could really use the help. Without this link, mom starts pushing buttons and can really screw up her machine. I have not done any upgrades to 3 at her end.
    Thanks in advance.
    Phil

Verrrry similar situation, except that I am new to the whole ARD experience. Just bought ARD 3 to use on my mom's new intel iMac.
Don't know WHAT I'm doing. I hate to admit that I don't know how to 'open port 22,' as I'm more of a photoshop/audio/video guy, and this 'networking/administering' stuff is new to me.
Is there a 'sticky' or FAQ on getting a single machine under control from my machines at home?
Sorry to be so naive, just started searching and found this topic.

  • ARD over the internet - one external IP, multiple clients

I have a tricky question (at least it is tricky for me)...
The objective: To connect to a single static external IP over the internet and gain access to the 4 or so ARD client computers that are on the network within.
Currently I connect to the external IP and have configured my router to forward the relevant ports to a single client computer (one internal IP using the relevant port 5900 forwarding as suggesting in the user manual).
My question is, what do I have to do to be able to have access to (and control) more than one of the ARD clients on the network within??
Any help here would be much appreciated!
    My thanks in advance.

Setup a VPN or install ARD admin on the one client you have access to and control the other clients from there.
can you explain to me how to set up ARD admin, and access?
I'm trying to use NAT portmapping and some how it's not working.
    Thanks,

  • Right-click on VNC client through ARD?

I'm controlling a Windows box in ARD via VNC, but I can't right-click. How am I meant to do that? Thanks.

    Hi Wes Plate,
I know this is not an answer but since I see you have RealVNC working with ARD so may I ask you how you set up the thing? I have tried to install RealVNC 4.1.1 on my PC (WinXP Pro) but I can't use ARD 2.2 to connect to it no matter what I have tried...It always said "Connection failed"
    Am I missing something?
Thank you very much if you could give me some hints...Otherwise, sorry for disturbing you.
    Cheers,
    James

  • Help! Problem downgrading from ARD Admin 3.0 to 2.2; LAN clients still 2.2.

Hi gang! This is my first post here. I work as a technician in a university computer lab with 250 machines. About 10% of these are Macs, and we manage them with Mike Bombich's NetRestore, Faronics Deep Freeze, and Apple Remote Desktop. All clients are running ARD 2.2.
I installed ARD Admin 3.0 on our office eMac to see some of the new features. Sadly, most of them will not work until you upgrade the clients to 3.0. I aso dislike how a majority of older commands from 2.2 (like UNIX commands, Lock screen, etc), are suddenly not working in 3.0. How convenient! Just upgrade your client software and presto! Not happening, yet.
So I went to uninstall the ARD Admin from my machine. Here is what I did to roll back: I have deleted anything to do with Apple Remote Desktop from the following folders:
    /Applications/
    /Library/Application support/Apple/
    /Library/Preferences/
    /Library/Receipts/
    ~/Library/Application Support/
    ~/Library/Preferences/
I reinstalled the software (it said "Install" not Upgrade) and launched the freshly installed ARD 2.2 Admin. It prompted me for my serial number and then I sat waiting for over 30 seconds for the main screen to appear. Finally it spat an error message at me, then crashed: "The Remote Desktop Administrator failed to start due to an unexpected error."
I can't find this in the KBase, or perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms. What did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?
    eMac 800Mhz, TiBook 700MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   In lab: 4 x Intel iMacs, 24 x Quicksilver G4s

Remove ARD again, using the instructions here.
Then reinstall your 2.2 ARD administrator. If you have an earlier version of ARD 2 on your installation disk, make sure you update it to 2.2, either through Software Update or via the downloadable updater, before you try and launch the administration application for the first time.
    Hope this helps.
Just FYI, if you try to use a 3.0 admin app with 2.2 clients, or a 2.2 admin with 3.0 clients, all that works is the VNC functions which means that other than the ability to upgrade the clients to 3.0 (where applicable), you only get Observe and Control.

  • With snow leopard, basic keyboard functions like double clicking on a desktop item now require me to hold control and then click on the track pad.  I'm trying to recall, I seem to remember Leopard allowing you to double click items to open them?

I notice in iPhoto that if I used to be able to single/double click on a photo to view it but now if I click CONTROL and then the TRACK PAD, the options don't allow me to open JUST that photo in nearly full page format.  Any suggestions?

"nearly full page" means that I used to be able to double click on a photo in iPhoto, and it would open up to a full image within iPhoto itself.  Now, there is absolutely no option to enlarge a photo unless you go to slideshow - no option to double click or side click or Control+click or Command+click or anything at all.  The small white arrow at the bottom right corner of every photo gives you options, but none are options that include enlarging a photo to see it bigger.  And no, you cannot double click it at all to even open it up in any other app unless you click/drag onto desktop and then open in Photoshop, or equivalent app. Yes, checked TP preferences.  No, it doesn't help.
