Leopard (10.5.2) and iPhoto 6.06 problems

I just upgraded to 10.5.2 and am having difficulty using my Canon Pixma iP6600D printer. I can print from AppleWorks and web pages, however, when I attempt to print any pictures using iPhoto 6.06 the printer only goes a few lines and then stops. I have already downloaded the latest 10.5 drivers for the printer from Canon.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have a feeling that I will have to go out and purchase the latest version of iPhoto.
Thanks,

Hi Thierry,
I have tried that too. It still does not make sense. I can print several pages of text and graphics from the internet with no problems. Then I try to print a picture using iPhoto 6.06 and it stops printing. I have also been able to use "Comic Life" without any problems, which also contains pictures.
Still puzzled????

Hi Jeff,
I understand it's puzzling. I can't decide for you. Here are some information for your understanding, that could help you.
I've just done this test for you:
- I've Paused the print spool for my office HP 4600 Color LaserJet
- I've queued one print job: one photo printed from iPhoto
- I've queued one other print job: a 5 pages Word document (with graphics in it)
Here is my CUPS (CUPS is the printing framework used by MacOSX) print spool queue. The "-155" job is the iPhoto job and "-156" is my Word job. The one-page iPhoto job is already 3 times bigger in bytes count than the Word 5 pages with graphics job.
When you say that your printer starts printing then pauses, it means to me you have a transmission problem somewhere. It can be the printer driver (PPD) not knowing exactly how much RAM you printer have. It can be many thing that cause your printer to not get the whole data set.
At home, I have an HP WiFi printer. It's fine for Word docs printing. But on some occasion, the WiFi thing simply doesn't work and get printings to stall half way done. So I prefer to hook my MBP on my Ethernet Switch and print while on 100baseT when I know I'm going to generate very big raster files.
This is only to get you some leads to look for other possible causes than just the application who generate the raster that then will be handled by many other OS layers.
I hope this helps.

  • Aperture and iPhoto 08 integration problems

    Hi.
I just bought Leopard and iLife 08. I read in an article (see link below) a great way to integrate pictures from your Aperture library into the iPhoto library:
    - Setup Aperture to share previews with iLife
    - Setup iPhoto to not copy items into the iPhoto library
    - Import photos from Aperture into iPhoto by using the 'Show Aperture library' feature
Photos from Aperture (actually the previews from Aperture) are now in your iPhoto library. The great thing about this is that the Aperture previews are referenced so when you make changes to the photos in Aperture the changes become visible in iPhoto.
However, I have discovered two problems until now with this integration:
    1. When I make a change to a photo in Aperture the change is not visible in the iPhoto preview (or what it is). But when I double-click on the preview in iPhoto the full image has the change I made in Aperture.
    2. Keywords from Aperture also gets imported into iPhoto. However, some of my photos have more than one keyword in Aperture and when imported into iPhoto some of the photos have all keywords and some only have one of the keywords they have in Aperture.
Is there anybody out there having the same problems and even better a solution?
    Thanks!

The great thing about this is that the Aperture previews are referenced so when you make changes to the photos in Aperture the changes become visible in iPhoto.
Well as you can see, that's not actually true. If you change the pics via Aperture there is no way for iPhoto to know about this change, and therefore no way that it will then update your thumbnail in iPhoto. I guess this integration is intended for after you've finished processing your pics.

  • Leopard 10.5.6 and HP Wireless printing problem

I have a client with a iMac 20" model, shes been having problems with her HP wireless printer for a while now (Photosmart 7280), its setup with static IP, installing the HP software, it can sense the printer, both Bonjour and IP, but when come to printing, it will start the queue as you would expect, but on the printer it simply display 'Printing' and thats it, it just sits there doing nothing else, you cant even cancel the printing, thinking its a fault with the printer, we went out and got her the latest HP Photosmart 8180, guess what ? it does the same thing.
I searched through HP forum, and people are blaming OSX that after 10.5.1 it broke the wireless printing, because I recalled that her old Macbook running tiger never had this problem with the old 7280 printer (sadly its been upgraded to the latest Leopard before Xmas)
With the new 8180 , I use my Notebook running XP Pro and connected to it wireless and printed first time, so the problem does seem like its coming from OSX Leopard, but sadly I cant find a solution, I posted twice on their messageboard but not a single reply after 2 months, so I am hoping that some experts here may have a solution or workaround to this.

    dimsumbox,
I am probably having the same issue as you are. The "HP IP Printing" is not listed in the drop-down menu under "More Printers". As such, attempting to print over the wireless is not working.
Using a wired connection, and selecting "Default" I am able to add the printer and print to it.
On a home network, you may see the printer under "Default". Unfortunately for me, my wired and wireless networks are separate and this option does not work for me.
The printer in question is a Color LaserJet 3500n, and I'm attempting to locate how I can add the "HP IP Printing" option without reinstalling the entire system.

  • Imported RAW images badly corrupted, looks like red paint splashed all over the sky.  Photoshop and Iphoto have no problem with the images from my D800E.  Aperture worked fine for me in June with the same camera.  The Nikon software shows no problem.

I am having a problem importing my images into Aperture 3 from my Nikon D800E.  The images appear as if red paint was splashed across the sky.  The Nikon software used to transfer from the camera does not show this problem and Photoshop 6 is fine with the images exported as jpg from the Nikon software.  Aperature does not even like the jpg images usable by Photoshop.  I am suspecting that Aperture is not correctly using the camera raw file.  Also, the histograms are radically different between the corrupted images and the Photoshop (good) versions.  Aperture worked just fine for me in June with the same camera.  All drivers and software are current as of this posting.  Anyone else out there seen this before??

Are you sure you do not have Highlight Hot & Cold Areas turned on? (View->Highlight Hot & Cold Areas)?
The bug in Digital Camera raw only affected Raw images. In your first post you wrote:
Aperature does not even like the jpg images usable by Photoshop
If the JPG's have the same problem then it isn't this bug.

  • I took Lion off my Macbook Pro and put Snow Leopard back on and now I can't access Mail or iPhoto. How do I get Mail and iPhoto to work with the Snow Leopard I just put back on?

Hi. I was having slowness problems with my Macbook Pro and thought I would re-install Lion but put Snow Leopard back on by mistake. I bought the computer used with Lion on it and don't have access to the USB drive or a username/password to reinstall Lion. Now I can't access Mail or iPhoto since I put Snow Leopard on.
Is there a way to get my Mail and iPhoto working again with Snow Leopard or do I have to "re-upgrade" to Lion?
    Thanks!
    Steve

You can't. When you converted those libraries to Lion's format, you lost the ability to go backwards. Unless you saved a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous SL installation, you're up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle.

With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

This forum is for people to discuss issues with other users. Apple aren't here. No one here can give you your money back. So, contact the the App Store support, if that's where you bought it. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.

  • Upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard, what happens with iTunes and iPhoto?

OKay, I picked up a Mac Boxed Set this weekend and I want to do the upgrade, with a clean install. Since I have never done this before, I don't know how it works. I plan to make a bootable backup onto a USB drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, and then transfer those settings back to my iMac once Snow Leopard is installed, but will that include all of my iTunes and iPhoto content? If anyone can let me know how that works I would appreciate it! THanks!
    Branden

iTunes is updated to the version on the Snow Leopard installer disc. Nothing happens to iPhoto as it's part of iLife, not OS X.
If you erase the target drive then install Snow Leopard, you can use Migration Assistant to migrate your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and network settings from your bootable backup.

  • If I upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard will I lose my iphotos and itunes and files?

Extremely new here guys.  Like...I need spoken to as though I am 10.  (even though the 10 year olds in my life are much smarter on computers)
    Quick version:
    Ex had control of computer.
Think I solved problem but not so sure so I was advised to upgrade OS.
    Q:
    1. Will I still be able to log in under my user account(s) or do I have to create a new one?
    2.  Will I lose my files?  ( I THINK I did a back up on an external drive )
    3.  I'm pretty sure I will have a new itunes app and iphoto app.  Will I lose my old itunes music?  Old photos?
I will probably have a lot more questions.
    Please be kind

You do not need Time Machine but it is easy to use. Time Machine is integrated in OS X. You already have it and you don't have to purchase any additional software to use it.
The Western Digital My Book for Mac is an external hard disk drive. If you backed up your existing system using "clone" software then you have a backup. If you just dragged music files and photos to it that's a good idea, but that alone does not convey the ability to change your mind and easily revert to Leopard should you want to do that for whatever reason (you probably won't).
The My Book will work with Time Machine also. If you want to use "clone" software I recommend either of the following choices:
    Carbon Copy Cloner ($39.95)
    SuperDuper! ($27.95)
They are both far more customizable than Time Machine, but a new user may find the options confusing. On the other hand Time Machine has a user interface that consists primarily of this
... which tends to be difficult to misinterpret.
Each backup strategy has advantages and disadvantages. I use Carbon Copy Cloner and Time Machine. Their designs are completely different so using both conveys a high degree of redundancy.

  • Versions of iMovie and iPhoto compatible with Snow Leopard

I finally managed to reinstall iMovie and iPhoto into the Snow Leopard side of my hard drive (I have partitioned it into Snow Leopard and
Mountain Lion). I want to use the last versions of both that are still compatible with Snow Leopard, but I don't want to download any updates that will take me into Mountain Lion territory. The iMovie version that I have downloaded is 8.0.4 (807), and the iPhoto version is 81 (415).  What versions are only compatible with Mountain Lion?

    Mende1,
If I understand you correctly, I can get the most advanced versions of iMovie and iPhoto in iLife 11. Furthermore, there is no danger of updating to the point that they will no longer be compatible with Snow Leopard. If I had known that before,I could have saved myself a great deal of trouble, and I could have done it long ago.  Well, live and learn.
