Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive.  "Could not complete backup to media share.  The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."  What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

  • ITunes won't start after upgrade--error message

When I launched iTunes after upgrading to 6.0.1, I got the following message after agreeing to the usual legal terms:
"The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder."
    Any suggestions?

    Jeff,
Thank you for the reply and your suggestions.
Yes, I did take a look in the Music folder--and no, the file was not there. I then used Spotlight and did find an iTunes Music folder, but when I tried to copy it to the Music folder I got error message -36, saying that parts of the file weren't readable and, therefore, not copyable.
I also used my disk utility to repair permissions and re started the computer---with the same results.
I'm not sure what else to try and may take my computer to my local expert.
    best,

  • Upgrade error messages and wont sync

I upgraded, as normal, and afterwards it said my computer wasn't authorized and therefore it would not sync it. i also wouldn't let me authorize it.. everytime an error message popped up. i can't do anything with my phone and its been almost a week since this started and i haven't found a solution. anyone else have any advice?

Try using the 12 digit code from the Android device, which is already connected to the Sync server, into the Desktop PC to set that device up after the format.

  • Windows 10 upgrade - error message c1900101-30018

Hello, I've tried upgrading my laptop to Windows 10 several times and I keep getting the following error message: c1900101-30018 and FIRST_BOOT SYSPREP. I've tried updating through windows update and through usb stick with no succes up to now. My last option will be to do a clean windows 10 install. I'm wondering if I will come across the same error doing this. Has anyone done a clean windows 10 upgrade installation? Has anyone found a solution or work around to the above problem?  Any help is much appreciated! Thanks

I am definitely not computer savvy but I am persistent (LOL) and finally I succeeded in getting Windows 10 installed without the install quitting at 32% complete.  I tried many things and am not sure what was the ultimate fix but success came with getting the ISO image file from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO and saving the file to my computer. I then burned the file to a DVD and when that was done I reinserted the DVD and was able to go to the setup file and double clicked it and it started running the setup.  I had in the past used a USB memory stick instead of a DVD to get/save the ISO file but somewhere in my looking for information I ran across a place on the web today (I can't remember where now) that said if the Windows on my computer had initially been pre-installed as a package that the USB file would not work and that you had to use the DVD ISO file.  That perked my ears right up as my notebook came with Windows 8 pre-installed. Of course I had updated it without incident, fortunately, with Windows 8.1 came out. So I now have Windows 10 up and running and I thank everyone who read my posts and offered suggestions.  BTW, while the install finally worked it was not a speedy process. It was slow...but you should have seen my face when it got beyond that menacing 32% complete.

  • Acrobat 8.3.0 Upgrade - Error message when opening, "Cannot be launched at this time...."

This is the error message I get about 10 seconds after opening, everytime...
"Adobe Acrobat 8 cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 professional.)"
Opening photoshop does nothing, I still get the error. I've found a patch for this issue, but it was for version 8.2.4. I'm running the rest of the CS5 Web on Mac OS X 10.6.8.

First you need to activate Photoshop not just open it. If I recall correctly, you might find 8.3.0 is not SL compatible. But some part of it just might work. If you have already activated Photoshop then try the following license repair tool:

  • Upgrade error message from itunes, it downloads for 20 minutes then at the end gives me an error message saying lost server

I have tried 4 times to download and sync itunes update to ipod touch. from 3.1.2 to 4.2.  20 min. later it gets to the end an error message pops up saying lost connection and no update.

Never mind I fixed it. Just in case anyone else has this problem, after you reinstall iTunes you have to delete all your old music, and if you have iTunes match all the songs you have saved on itunes match will display and you just have to download them to your Macbook.

  • IPhoto upgrade/error message, solution not working. Can you help?

I have installed iLife 06. To upgrade my photo library I got the message:
"There is a problem accessing 1 or more files in your iPhoto Library folder. In FINDER I chose: GET INFO & changed all permissions to both READ & WRITE.
If this doesn't solve the problem you are then supposed to go to the UTILITIES folder. I did the following: 1. Opened the TERMINAL & 2. At the prompt typed
sudo chflags - R nouchg (this is followed with a space & using the "R" in upper case. 3. I am then prompted for a password & then in FINDER supposed to locate the iPhoto icon & drag that to the terminal.
ISSUE: I keep getting a message saying "permission denied".

I have no idea why the terminal commands didn't work, but then again, I'm no UNIX expert. But you can achieve the same thing by downloading BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • Outlook won't open since upgrade - error message re. "daemon"

Have just done a "critical" upgrage for Outlook for Mac.
    Outlook now won't open.
Errror message says I need to remove "daemon" from my startup items.
    Can't find startup items.
Have tried online Mac help, result: zilch.
Any help from this brains trust would be muchly appreciated.

Earlier this week Apple released an update to iMovie that has fixed this for a lot of people. Are you running version 9.0.7? You can update to it by running Software Update or checking the Updates tab in the Mac App Store. If it's still crashing after the update, this seems to be doing the trick for a bunch of people: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4319

  • Safari 3.0 error message in Leopard 10.5.1

After I updated Leopard I now get the error message "You cannot use the application "Safari" with this version of Mac OS X".
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Rick

    Hi Rick
Go to the Finder>Applications folder. Right or control/click on Safari.app and select "Get Info" from the Contextual Menu. Which version appears (ought to be 3.0.4)?
If that's OK, are you trying to start Safari from the Dock? If so, the Safari dock icon may be corrupt. Remove it by dragging it off the dock. Then, single-click Safari.app and drag it to the dock, creating a new icon. Try Safari again.

  • Error message: Unknown error (-69)

Recently, when I sync new songs to my iPod, all it will do is sync one, two, or even no songs and then stop syncing. This error message will come up:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "CAMERON'S I" failed. An unknown error occured (-69)."
"CAMERON'S I" is the name of the folder that opens up in My Computer for connecting to my iPod. What is causing this error message and preventing my songs from being synced?
    Thanks in advance.

well, when will Apple finally resolve all 'unknown' problems (whose band-aid solution of March 2008 error -69 is only partially helpful) -- like IGNORE faulty files with a warning without preventing all other good files from being Synced??
I've tried eliminating or unchecking the bad files, even did a full restore.
But I don't feel like having to do this every time. Besides the sync display
is so fast that I cannot possibly read which file is causing the error.
I can no longer sync any podcasts. This is not good.
I use an an iCUBE for recording TV News clips and sometimes cannot sync Movies.
I don't want to have to do this everytime...
Have some sympathy and get to work on upgrading error messages.

  • Suppress "Connection Failed" Error Messages on Client?

    Hi there,
I have a Leopard server which is Managing Preferences for users in groups. In my Login Preference for a group, I have it basically "auto mounting" shares, such as smb://leopard-server/accounting and smb://leopard-server/graphics.
The works great so far. A user logs into their machine, managed prefs determines their group membership, and poof all the appropriate network drives show up on their desktop.
Problem is - when a user is off the network (for instance, at home with their laptop), after they power up and login they are immediately assailed with error messages, one for each failed connection to a network drive: "Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time".
Now it is understandable why Leopard is bringing up those error messages - it's trying it's best to connect to the network drive but the user isn't on the network.
Question is: is there any way to suppress these error messages and let the users who are off-network boot to their desktop "quietly"?
I know you can hold the Option key at login in order to turn off Managed Prefs altogether, but the problem with that is users tend to forget to turn Managed Prefs back on when they get back into the office.
    Any ideas?

It's not just you, I am seeing this behaviour too.
Where 10.4 clients would fail silently, 10.5 is throwing the "Connection Failed" error message as you described.
I agree it is confusing to end users and would like a way to supress it, the only thing that springs to mind is manually mounting the share via a login hook that first checks network availability rather than using a WGM configured mount. Trouble is, to mount an afp share with the users credentials via a script is a whole new problem in itself.
