Leopard and ABC streaming video player incompatibility?

Since installing Leopard (clean install) on an iMac G5, the quality of video streaming from ABC has deteriorated -- it is now stops and stalls. Does anyone know if there is some incompatibility between Leopard and the ABC episode player? Or are there some settings I can change to fix this problem.
This is not Internet congestion as I have tried it at all times of the day, and also the ABC episode player works well in Tiger (running on my other G5).

I've had decent luck with MLB.TV with the following work around. I just remove the Windows Media Plug-in from the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Then when you try to watch (or listen to) a game, you get a message saying that Safari isn't supported, but you do get the option to "Proceed". After hitting "Proceed" the page starts to load and then you get the message saying something along the lines of "Safari can't display the content, would you like Windows Media Player to try. Click OK and the stand-alone Windows Media Player should open the stream. And from the app, you can resize the window. A bit clunky, and it probably won't allow for the soon to be released Multi-game Mosaic option, but it works - even on a 3 year old iMac

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • Can I disable plugin-container.exe in 20.0.1 and still stream video?

    When I try to stream TV shows with Firefox, I receive high Firefox disc usage warnings from my Norton antivirus. I believe this is due to the gigantic plugin-container.exe that Firefox apparently runs the Flash player inside of. When I look at it in Taskmaster plugin-container has been using 150 k + after just a few minutes and continues to go higher the longer I watch. If I continue to watch without doing anything, eventually the video begins to stutter and then stops while the sound keeps playing. My system slows down to the point where it takes 5 min to stop the player after clicking the control, and a half hour for my system to process the commands to shut down Firefox and restart.
    I've been able to work around this by putting the AV into extended Silent Mode to save CPU and by closing the browser after each and every episode, then reopening it again. Obviously this isn't an optimal solution.
    I tried shutting down plugin-container using the Taskmaster but this also killed my video. When I closed the window and restarted the video, the plug-in-container came back. In this current version of Flash 20.0.1 is there a way to disable it forever that will also allow me to stream video? IE8 didn't play nice with web pages but Firefox isn't playing nice with video streaming. Is there a fix that doesn't involve a new PC?

    Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. We know the problem isn't with Flash because I was running it without huge background files or lock-up up while using IE8.
    Installing an older version of Flash isn't an option because newer versions resolve some of the memory usage and flickering problem that older Flash versions caused on the new Hulu site. Some sites also require the newest patch and return an error message if an older version is detected.
    I'm not sure what protected Flash mode does or doesn't do and hate to mess around with Flash when we already know it's been running without issues on my system using the other browser.
    What I DO know is that the problem only started occurring when I made the switch from IE8 to Firefox. This weekend I had it happen again when I only had Firefox open and the Norton AV running out of Silent Mode in the background. Only the Flash thumbnails on the Hulu home page were active, not the Flash player and I started to get slowdown and lose mouse control.
    I posted the issue over on the Norton forum also but don't expect a workaround. I think disabling that huge plugin-container file might help. By the time I've watched one video both Firefox and plug-in container are up around 200k each, much,much, much larger than anything else running on my system.
    So is disabling plugin-containter still viable? Firefox crashing is never going to happen, if plug-in container freezes up my system first. Continually closing and reopening Firefox as a workaround doesn't seem to be way it was intended to perform.

  • How to create and share streaming video?

    Hi -
    I have finally finished a project in PE8 and I'd like to upload it to my website so that others can stream it.
    I have created output in FLV, MOV and MPG formats.
    I have uploaded them to my web server.
    However, whenever I link to the video, my browser (IE or Firefox) just asks to download or run it.
    Then, it tries to download the entire video - this is a problem as the files are up to 1.3gb.
    I've tried this:
    <html>
    <a href="myvideo.flv">CLICK HERE</a>
    </html>
    and this:
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
    CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" WIDTH="160" HEIGHT="136" >
    <PARAM NAME="src" VALUE="myvideo.mov" >
    <PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="true" >
    <EMBED SRC="myvideo.mov" TYPE="image/x-macpaint"
    PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download" WIDTH="160" HEIGHT="136" AUTOPLAY="true"></EMBED>
    </OBJECT>
    and this:
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="400" height="400" >
    <param name="movie" value="myvideo.flv">
    <param name="quality" value="high" >
    <param name="LOOP" value="false">
    <embed src="myvideo.flv" width="400" height="400" loop="false" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></ embed >
    </ object >
    So, why isn't it streaming?
    Is it the video format?
    The embedding on the web page?
    My server?
    Perhaps you can share the details of how you created and setup a streaming video?
    Thanks....

    You need to embed a player for the file. This will differ by the file type that you choose. I'd probably go with a Flash player, but you have other choices.
    I'd post your request for the exact instructions, and HTML code needed, plus tips on optimization to the Muvipix "Community," probably under the "Water Cooler" sub-forum. The Webmaster there, Ron, is an expert in embedded players, as are several other subscribers. I'll bet that you'll get the exact code, with all sorts of useful tweaks, in no time. If Ron suggests another file type and player, listen to him, and not to me. I just deliver the streaming AV files in the exact format that my client asks for. They have their Webmaster use them in their particular page design. My job ends, before your's, now, begins.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Creating a streaming Video Player w/bandwidth detection... HELP!

    Hi everyone,
    I've just been asked to create a video player which automatically chooses the correct bitrate video to stream by detecting the bandwidth.
    I have no experience creating a video player so I'm looking for links/resources to do some research on the topic.
    Has anyone here created a video player in Flex? Would it be better to create in Flash or Flex?
    Once again, I have no prior knowledge in this type of creation and could use an experienced developer's opinion on what the first step is towards progress.
    ANY information on this is greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Dey

    Your best options are to use a streaming server connection. There are numerous companies that can host it for you, or you can buy a license and install it on your existing web servers. But to accomplish this task, you will want to look into what is called Dynamic streaming. Some great tutorials that will get you started are here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/dynstream_on_demand.html and http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/beginner_dynstream_fms.html
    Take a look through those, they should show you that it is fairly simple to accomplish.
    Good Luck!

  • AS2 to AS3 Streaming Video Player

    Ok so Im trying to convert a video play that i made in AS2 to
    AS3 (I had a problem with nested movie clips and the control bar
    and i want to learn AS3) and i am having troblem even connecting to
    my rtmp server. With the player i made in AS2 i was able to connect
    and stream video no problem. But with AS3 I am not even able to
    connect to the rtmp server. Here is the AS2 code and the AS3 code:
    AS3:
    var video:Video = new Video(853,480);
    addChild(video);
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect("rtmp://[ip of server]/sumone4life/videos");
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,
    onStatusEvent);
    function onStatusEvent(stat:Object):void
    trace(stat.info.code);
    var meta:Object = new Object();
    meta.onMetaData = function(meta:Object)
    trace(meta.duration);
    video.attachNetStream(ns);
    ns.play("AdobeBand_640");
    And I get the error:
    ArgumentError: Error #2126: NetConnection object must be
    connected.

    AS2 Works:

    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    var ns:NetStream;
    nc.onStatus = function(info){

    function playVideo(){
    ns = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.onMetaData = onMetaDataHandler;
    videoObject.attachVideo(ns);
    _root.createEmptyMovieClip("vSound",
    _root.getNextHighestDepth());
    vSound.attachAudio(ns);
    ns.setBufferTime(5);
    ns.onStatus = function(info){
    trace(info.code);
    if(info.code == "NetStream.Buffer.Full"){
    bufferClip._visible = false;
    if(info.code == "NetStream.Buffer.Empty"){

    ns.seek(0);
    ns.play(filename);
    //connects the stream
    nc.connect("rtmp://[ip of server]/sumone4life/videos");
    Can anyone offer any insite as to why it would be workin in
    AS2 and not in AS3? Or what i am doing wrong...

    I have a similar problem. Did you get your to work?

  • Airport express and choppy streaming video

    I am running AX with a DHCP router from my service provider. Up until recently I watched streaming video (Adobe Flash Player) with no problems.  Now the video seems to stutter and have to rebuffer often and it seems to happen when Airport  is "Looking for new Networks".  This means the video stutters every 30 seconds or so.  Is there any way to avoid this?  My connection does not actually drop, it's just the streaming video that gets broken up.
    So far I have tried to
    manually stick to one channel
    reset the airport express to factory settings (which actually helped a bit; stutters from every 10 seconds to every 30 seconds)
    fiddled with interference robustness
    Any suggestions?

    I'm not sure of the exact length restriction, but I have used a 100' cable with my AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to connect to the stereo and it worked just fine.

  • IBook OS X updates and Safari Streaming Video Hesitations

    8/18/2009. Friends, two questions really. First, I have an iBook (2004) with OS X 10.5.4. I think I would like to update with the latest Safari 4.0.1 (or whatever). Its requirements state OS X 10.5.7. Can I just update with OS X 10.5.7 directly or do I need to go through 10.5.5 then 10.5.6 first?? And then install Safari 4.0.1? Second, I can stream videos without interruptions on my PC with Windows XP Professional OS. But on my iBook with Safari, there are frequent interruptions as the iBook struggles to download and keep up. How do I improve this? Do I need to download Adobe Flash Player 10 ? Many thanks for replies. Chuck Yopst, Chicago

    8/18/2009. Ooops. I think I just answered part of my question. My present Book OS is OS X 10.5.6. But the question about streaming videos still remains. Again, many thanks. Chuck Yopst, Chicago

  • Is anyone with an iPhone 6plus experiencing slow downloads and problems streaming videos online?

    is anyone with an iPhone 6+ experiencing slow download and slow video streaming online? I have had the iPhone 6 Plus and I've been experiencing my app is downloading a lot slower and being unable to stream videos online

    I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this site. Three days apps will not update, iOS8.0. Support told me to update to iOS8.02. Can't do that over WIFI or Cell network. Supports tells me have to link to iTUNES and do this. That takes three trys. Did that. Apps still not updating. Read online that resetting network settings will help. Did that App's hanging and not updating.
    Apple how does this happen. Night before iOS8.0 release you pull things because of some security issue. Then you have iOS8.01 fiasco and now this. Can someone get this right. We use these things for more than just phones now. FIX IT

  • What do I do to make Quick Time the streaming video player?

    I want Quicktime to be the streeaming video player, but Windowz Media Player keeps taking over.
    What do I do to correct this?
    Thanks,
    KeyW

    Sorry but the confusion will just get deeper.
    The Web page authors actually have control of what browser plug-in is used. If they write code for Real Player that is what you'll need to use. The same for QuickTime formats even though Real Player can handle most of them.
    You can can set the "MIME Types" for the QuickTime browser plug-in and that could release more file formats.
    QuickTime Control Panel / Advanced tab MIME Settings button.
    Maybe if you posted a few URL's that are giving you trouble we could help with solutions or answers.

  • HT1595 My AppleTV will not load and hold streaming video

    My Apple TV will not load streaming video such as Netflix etc.  All appears to be going well until we get to the 'PLAY' button.  When 'PLAY' is hit it looks as if it is going to load the content.  However, as soon as the content starts to play the msg: "An error has occurred loading this content - try again later" appears.  No matter how many times you try to repeat - you may get 5 sec, 5 minutes but it will then come up with the error msg and force you to recycle to resume where the content crapped out.  WHAT IS HAPPENING?  Is it some setting?  Is it download speed (we have 10mbps on the computer which is on the same wireless network as the Apple TV)?
    Appreciate any help I can get.
    Thanks
    Rich

    In streaming content you must go to Source in the ATV menu and choose the library you want to stream from. Are you doing this? You will not see the ATV on your computer, only vice versa (IOW, with iTunes open on that computer you should not see the ATV as a device -- if you do, disable "Look for Apple TV" in the menu as that may be preventing you from streaming from it).
    If you choose the source as your other computer's library and after entering code cannot stream then see this:

    Got it home and tried to connect it to my streaming video player in the next room and it would not connect at all. There might be some settings required in the router so that it gets the proper solution. If you are facing the concern of getting lag, dropped connections then you can try the following steps:
    A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
    1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
    2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
    3] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
    For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
    For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
    B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Secondly avoid using any other wireless devices like cordless phones, microwave oven etc nearer to the router. Update the drivers for the wireless card of the wireless computer. Then check the wireless connection status.

  • Will increasing the buffer size make flash streaming video stop stalling?

    I have surmised all this on my own so it could be just a fantasy, but:
    I am often the victim of slow internet connections. This means that when I try and watch streaming video it constantly pauses. It's my understanding that increasing the buffer size of flash would help prevent this but I can't figure out how to do that.
    Thanks

    You can pause the video just long enough for the player to load enough content. Most Flash player show a loading bar if you hover the player. For short pieces you can load the entire content before starting the play.
