Leopard and AOL Instant Messaging

I just bought a MacBook Pro and it will not allow me to open the aim.bin- says "unable to unarchive, error 45 operation not supported"
how do i fix this? Is there a security preference I am unaware of?

When you close your iBook, all of the applications are suspended. This prevents overheating and ruining your display. In short, there's no way to easily work around this.
You could disable the sleep mode through a hardware hack, I believe, but I'd highly not recommend it.

AOL Instant Message PW Error

Since updating to 10.7.2, I'm getting this annoying pop up error message about AOL instant messaging password error. The message states: iChat can’t log in to @mac.com because your login ID or password is incorrect. I don't use ichat and want the message to stop, so what do I do?

Hi,
In iChat go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
In here go to the Server Setting tab/Button for your @mac.com name
Disable (Untick) the SSL option.
Make sure the NON SSL server reads login.oscar.aol.com
This is the most common issue if the name worked before.
The other issue is having a @Mac.com name with a password that is longer than 16 characters.
If you are just getting around to using the @Mac.com in ICHat you will need to shorten the Password due to the Limit AIM has on checking passwords.

HELP: can connect to FB, TWITTER, MySPACE, BBM and other instant messaging but not to youtube and other sites

I'm just a newbie. I got my Curve 9220 a month ago. The phone is really good but i have some problems regarding my about phone. You see i can access my social sites and application and can be done in my web browser but strangely i can't connect to other sites except those mentioned sites. I can use my bbm and some instant messaging applications (YM, Gtalk etc) but unfortunately not my bb app world.
By the way my carrier is globe, I have called them about this matter, they told me they have fix it but until now nothing happens. It's frustrating you know?
Is there a way that I could do it manually by my self? Or should I call them again until they have got my problem fixed?
Additionally, its odd because I can't even go to thier mobile website. How this could happen when I'm not restricted to access my social site?

In addition to this, I can send and receive emails.. hope you can help me.

I can no longer click on online contacts and institue instant messaging .

I yse Yahoo.com and it shows a list of online contacts. I used to be able to click on an online contact and start Instant Messaging. That no longer works.

Go to Tools>options>tabs>check the "open new windows in tab"
or ctrl+click on the link ( always worked )

10.4.8 and AOL instant messenger

I just ran the update... went to universal access to get rid of the black box, but now I noticed that i can't sign onto ANY AOL instant messenger program be it ichat, AIM or Adium. Being a college student you KNOW how important this is to me . But any suggestions would be very appreciated.

doesn't anyone have any ideas how to help me fix this?
I can get it to work with a browser through AIM express, but shouldn't there be a way for me to get a client to work?

Try using one of these video players. VLC usually works with most files.

AOL Instant Messaging File Transfer Problem

Hey guys, I recently got a Macbook, I changed from Windows and am just getting used to the layout and everything. I downloaded AIM, and have gone and tried to do File Transfers but a window pops up that prevents me from doing so. I went to Preferences and set all the correct Firewall and Fire Transfer options, yet still, a message comes up, saying
"The File Transfer with [friend] failed. A proxy connection error occurred.The connection may have timed-out while waiting for your buddy to connect to the AOL proxy server."
Please help as soon as possible!

First, don't bother with AIM software - Just use iChat. iChat is a Universal app and AIM is not.
It can use your AIM account. Had you done a file transfer with this person before?
Some servers don't play well with others, plus if the other user is on AOL software, I haven't been able to ever make that work.

Flash plug in, snow leopard and aol

I recently installed SL on my Macbook. Now every time I open AOL it automatically loads something called "flash player (safari internet plug in)". Why has this automatically started loading and do I now need this? Can I turn it off? Also the only way it stops is to close safari.

Some AOL content requires the Flash plugin. Since you upgraded to Snow Leopard, you may need to update the Flash plugin.
Uninstall then reinstall the plugin > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS.
Then restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Try AOL.

Leopard and AOL

Anyone having problems using Leopard with the current AOL software? I am unable to view pictures on AOL, and whenever I want to select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu, the AOL software crashes. Anyone else have any similar experiences, or anything else for that matter?

The introduction of Leopard 10.5.x, indeed created some new incompatibilities, with AOL.
A new BETA version of AOL Desktop For Mac, has been released.
Until the software is released as standard, there are some workarounds, that can be used. Refer to this Known MAC Leopard Issues.

From here AOL, Sign In.
Then from here AOL/OS X Settings, click on the Internet (Web) Options link.
If Internet (Web) Options is not displayed, from the AOL browser bar, use Keyword Settings.
In the window that should open, make sure that Show Images in selected.

Problem: I bought my Torch 9800 on a Blackberry Retailed outlet and inserted my Old Simcard on it . I enrolled on a BB data plan from my carrier (GLOBE's BB Social ON: pls refer from this link to understand better regarding my Carrier's Data plan ) I can access only on my Facebook,My space and Twitter Apps. All other such as BBM, YM,WM,AOL ang GoogleTalk are not working. For BBM: I tried to add a contact as well as my frend tried to add me but i never received the invitation nor did my friend (my friend also has the same Carrier as mine and enrolled on the same package using his BB Bold 9000 OS 5 with BBM 6.1.0.71),another friend also tried to send me BBM invite but never received it. When I tried to log-in on my YM app,it says "service not enabled for this handheld".. I tried to go to the Carrier Customer Service to help me with the settings or something and say that my account is already updated to their BB services and I have already the correct settings. I tried to delete and reinstall the apps..did countless hard resets on my phone..but still the same problem..Can Someone help me plz..

I'm sorry to say, but I'm having the EXACT same telecom, same plan, same problem. I wonder if the original poster was able to solve his problem. I still can't use my BBM, though the other apps work just fine. :/

Can't download AOL Instant Messaging

After attempting to download and install AIM on a new MacBook Pro, I get the following error from Archive Utility: Unable to unarchive "aim-2.bin" into Downloads. Error 45-operation not supported.
I believe I should be able to install AIM. Any suggestions welcome.

Same as the others - Use iChat and input your AIM screen name, making sure to choose the AIM extension and not the .mac selection.
All your buddies will be automatically downloaded and you'll be up and running in no time. And you'll be much happier with iChat than that old AIM software junk

Depends on the standards supported by your cell phone. Skype does exist for PowerPC.
iChat supports ICQ and AOL instant messaging as well Jabber based chat standards. If you can get one of these, you can go through iChat.

Can't send instant messages from skype on laptop

Hi! I am having problems sending and receiving instant messages on skype on my Mac laptop. I can receive/send messages from only one specific conversation. All of my other conversations won't let me receive new messages and when I type and send, the text just sits there and a little blue circle spins next to do. I tried logging out and logging back in... nothing changed. So I unistalled skype and then redownloaded it... nothing changed. I do have the skype app on my iphone, and all of the conversations are working fine there. That is how I know that I am not receiving or being able to send messages on my computer. I really need this issue resolved for my job, though. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

This is broken for most of my group chats as well. Can't receive from some, but can from others, and can't send to some but can to others. Very strange. Haven't identified what differentiates groups that work and groups that don't. Tried one of the posted solutions where the Skype Application Support folder is nuked along with any of the associated plist preferences and re-installed the App. Didn't help.

Internet & Instant Messaging Problems

This is driving me mental. I have just brought a BB Curve 8520 and basically want to set up the internet via my wireless broadband and use instant messaging, what a problem it is!!!!
For the internet, I have found my sky wireless router, put the key in and connected to it no probs, however, when I click on browser, I get a message say unable to connect to internet, please try again later. I have also tried adding my own personal email, I have followed instructions but i don't even have the option!! I have gone into email set up and I only have an option saying use work email account with BB Enterprise server and no option for adding personal email.
Can someone please help?

My father is deaf. How do I configure Skype, so that I can I type messages to him during a video call?

I don't know how to necessary instruct the following set of instructions to your deaf father, but in whatever way, let me go ahead and provide you with those instructions.
During a video call on Skype for Modern Windows, swipe from right to left (when full screen) or bottom to top (when split-screen multi-tasking.) Tap on the text box to begin text chat. To hide, swipe the opposite direction.
For mouse & keyboard operation, click on the Plus (+) button enclosed in a circle and select "instant message." That will do the equivalent of the above set of instructions.
