Leopard and entourage 10.1.6

I updated to 10.5.3 last week. I did the back up with time Machine. I Repaired Permissions. I use Microsoft Entourage 10.1.6 as my mail program.
Ever since I performed the update I cannot open any emails that are not from private parties. EX: I subscribe to a number of news groups, etc. When I try to open these emails, Entourage crashes.
I have no idea how to fix it. Microsoft support website says they have ended support of this version and there are no more updates, ever! Do you have any ideas for me??? Do I have to spend $$$ to get the latest programs?
Is there something I messed up by doing the upgrade to 10.5.3???

What don't you understand? You said you made a backup before upgrading to 10.5.3.
Recover the information that was copied as backup of 10.5.2 to your system, move your mail data to Mac OS X Mail, move your addressbook data to Apple Addressbook, and Calendar data to iCal using the tips I've outlined.
If you find that 10.5.3 doesn't support an older version of Entourage, you are more likely to see support from Apple's built-in applications when moving to 10.5.3 than an old outdated version of Microsoft's software.

  • Leopard and Entourage

Out of some 50 plus Macs on campus, only one has the combination of the newest most up-to-date version of Mac OS Leopard and the newest MS Office. Two weeks ago, they worked very nicely together. On Thursday the 16th or Friday the 17th, something very strange started to happen. And it effects ONLY this one machine. On Monday the 20th when the staff member started her computer and opened Entourage, her mail downloaded strangely --rather than being sorted by the date of the email (some would have arrived on Friday, some Saturday, some on Sunday, and some early on Monday) --all of the email downloaded and was sorted/dated as Monday the 20th. This did not happen to anyone else --only this one staff member with the newest most up-to-date combination of Leopard and Entourage/Office 2008. I have looked around in the various menus and settings and can not figure out what changed. Since only this one computer has the problem, I assume that the issue involves the combination of the newest most up-to-date versions of both Mac OS Leopard and MS Office 2008. Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.

rebuilt the machine --no more problems

  • Snow Leopard and Entourage

Unfortunately I have to use Entourage (2004). Periodically Entourage Sync Services seems to hog the processors locking up any applications. Can OSX limit the extent of the grab or should I be looking at how Entourage is set up?

    Hi Yeslet;
I doubt that you can fix your Entourage problem from the Snow Leopard side of things. If you can fix it at all it probably have to be done from the Entourage side of things. Have you asked Microsoft about your problem?
Personally I think looking into how to get rid of Entourage might be the simpler solution.

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?

I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?
    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.

  • Leopard Update and Entourage

We updated the firmware update for Leopard and now our Entourage program appears as if its never been used - mail account was lost and all emails are gone. Has anyone had a similar experience or suggestion to retrieve mail/contacts?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Entourage on my Air has lost the main (and only) identity. All my mailbox folders are empty and it is as if I just loaded Entourage for the first time. When I go to account settings there are no accounts in the box to choose from. However when I go to the root:
    ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities
I can see that there are 20 files in the main identity folder that range in size from 1.18GB and get smaller. I suspect these are the files associated with my Entourage Account that is missing. How can I restore the original Account?
Also, I have SyncTogether but it was after a snyc using syncTogether that I noticed the problem. I have also noticed that all the contacts have lost some info such as categories.
I would just like to restore the messages as I was on business with my Air for the last 2 weeks and really need what I have lost. Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks!

  • I currently use Snow Leopard and Microsoft Word, Excel and Entourage o my Mac.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, can I still use those applications?

I currently use Snow Leopard with Microsoft Word, Excel and Entourage on my iMac.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, can I still use those applications?

If the Microsoft Office is 2004 then no.
    Mavericks System requirements.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5842
Note I would recommend a minimum of 4GB RAM.
You need to check all you software and hardware including any peripherlas you use, printers etc that they are compatible with Mavericks.
Any software that is PPC and uses Rossetta will not work with any OS X verson later than 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
If you decide to upgrade have a tested backup of your current system in case of problems and you could return the computer to its previous configuration.

  • Snow Leopard - Safari and Entourage 'drop out' after a period of inactivity

Ever since I loaded up 10.6 (and later 10.6.1), both Safari and Entourage get the beach ball when my system has been inactive for an hour or more (time based problem?). Doing resets, clearing caches etc. do not seem to have any effect. The only effective way to get Safari/Entourage back is to restart the system (I thought I had left this behind when I waved good bye to PCs). Sometimes it appears that running Network Diagnostics has cleared it but this is not absolutely reliable.
My ISP tells me the system is up/available and it can 'talk' to my modem and they imply that it is an Apple software problem. Apple imply my modem is on the blink but get me to push some keys and the problem 'temporarily' goes away until after the next period of inactivity.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you considered using wicd?  I use it on this computer, and have had no problems with it.  However, to be fair, the packages on this pc haven't been updated for a LONG time, so it is possible that if i updated it, I'd have the same problem.  You didn't mention a wireless connection daemon, so I thought that I'd ask.

  • Just upgraded to Leopard and can't see individual photos in Finder

I have just upgraded my late-2007 iMac to Leopard and dragged and dropped my photo library from a back-up disc. iPhoto can use it but the individual photos aren't available to browse in the Finder...
Nor can I select an individual photo when I try to add one as an attachment in Mail- I only see the Library file as one big 6GB file.
    What can I do?

but that's a very complicated way of doing it...
So access the photos using the Photos button in the message window in Mail or use one, some or all of these
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • My mail program frequently asks for passwords that I have provided and saved many times.  I am running Snow Leopard and have run the Keychain repair a few times to no avail.  Is there a fix for this or do I have to find another email program?

I am running Snow Leopard and have run the Keychain repair a few times to no avail.
Is there a fix for this or do I have to find another email program?

This is frequent, not just occasionally.  All cancel does is stop the email from coming through until I provide the password.
I thought about it being on the provider's end but it never happened when I was using Entourage, I just don't particularly like that program.
I don't understand why this problem has gone on so long without Apple doing something to fix it but I will continue to look for alternatives to the Apple Mail program.  If I find a good one I will let all know through avenue.
Thanks again to all who tried to help.

  • Forcing Sync Between Address Book and Entourage

I use Apple Address Book and Entourage on a Powerbook Pro running Leopard. I have al of the latest updates.
Sometimes, when I make updates to info in a contact record in Apple Address Book, the updated info appears in Entourage within a few seconds. Sometimes, it can take minutes.
Is there anyway to force an update in Entourage so that as soon as I go back into Entourage, I can force the update and the updated record is there? I know that I can turn off synch, turn synch back on, etc., but is there some other way/ shortcut to force an update of Entourage contacts once I make a change in a contact record in Apple Address Book?

    don't think there is unfortunately.

  • Can I install both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on the same version of VMWare 5?

Even though I am running Apple OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on my new 2013 iMac, I have just installed VMWare's "Fusion 5" so I can have Windows 7 installed on the "Fusion 5, for limited usage needs.
I also would like to have a running version of Snow Leopard available to run my large collection of original Lynda.com training DVD's and CD's ... which unfortunately, now only allow the Lynda.com GUI player to operate in (and up to) Snow Leopard (at least this is what the Tech folks at Lynda.com have told me).
Since Lynda.com is no longer producing any or their training programs on CD or DVD any longer, and because they have stopped supporting their training programs to run on Lion and above, I will have to have a version of Snow Leopard installed to run these training programs, and still be able to run them using the Lynda.com GUI player.
    So here's my dilemma:
    1.  Can I install both a version of Snow Leopard OS on my "VMWare "Fusion 5" .... along with a running version of Windows 7 on       the same "Fusion 5"?
    2.  Do I install only the Windows 7 on the VMWare, and find some other "device" to run a version of Snow Leopard off of?
    3.  Do I consider using "BootCamp", in conjunction with "Fusion 5", to get access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7?
Has anyone had any experience installing BOTH a previous (older) version of Apple OSX  ... AND ... a Windows OS version on one installed version of VMWare "Fusion"?
    OR
Any suggestions on how to set up having access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 .... while keeping OS Mountain Lion as my main OS?

    mende1
Thanks ... the "You have to purchase Snow Leopard Server" I knew about, and a few days ago I just ordered a copy from the Apple Store:
    Snow Leopard Server - Ordered at: 1-800-692-7753 ... OR ... 1-866-254-8313
I asked for Apple Snow Leopard Server (Model MC588Z/A (SLSVR)
    "Unlimited Client License"
It was around $25.50 (USD) with sales tax and shipping (NYS).
One thing though ... when you mention:  "you should make two virtual machines".
Not being too familiar with "Fusion 5" yet, Is setting up "two machine" all done under one installed version of "Fusion 5"?
Would you have "links" to any "Fusion 5" installation instructions/info for setting up the
"two machines" (one for Snow Leopard and one for Windows 7)?

  • I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion and found out it was not compatible with my HP printer (HP photosmart C5580) so I called Apple and asked how to get Mountain Lion off and Snow Leopard back on.  The Tech told me to

I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then I found out it was not compatible with my HP Printer (HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one) so I called Apple support and the tech told me to erase the hard drive instead of going in the time machine.  Well I did that and then it took about three hours three days a week for about three weeks on the phone with an apple tech to get all my stuff back on my computer.  I have had trouble with my printer (won't do the scan anymore and wasn't printing on my DVDs.  Also the computer keeps freezing up when it is in the sleep mode, etc.
When I tried to list my problem on this forum it lists your OS at the bottom and mine had Mountain Lion listed as what I was using so apparently it didn't erase it.  Want to know how to get Mountain Lion off and put my Snow Leopard on so things start working right.

Go to the  menu/About This Mac - what OS version shows there?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • I GIVE UP!  Is it possible to uninstall Leopard and go back to Tiger?

I am ready to give up for now. Is it possible to uninstall and go back to Tiger?

If you were wise you would consider other options just besides getting rid of Leopard and throwing it away. First, you could wait until Apple releases OS 10.5.1, then install and update to it. This might help take care of some problems. You could dual boot OS 10.4.10 and 10.5 as long as you have the OS 10.4 full install Disk and the OS 10.5 full install disk. I personally will wait until at least Christmas time before I install Leopard. New OS's are always full of bugs. On the Microsoft side, I've read where Windows Vista is still having major problems and is taking a long time to become widely used. These problems take time to fix. When Windows XP came out nobody would upgrade to it because of all it's bugs, now Windows XP is considered the standard on PCs. Mac OS 10.4 was also full of bugs at first, but now we talk about how rock solid it is. Simply give Apple time to fix these problems.

  • Leopard and Adobe Photoshop CS2 problems...

I've been reading the posts about Leopard and CS2 problems and have to say that I'm confused. A great many of you have had issues from the very beginning as soon as you upgraded to Leopard. I did not. I use a VERY basic set-up without third party plugins and suspect that to be why I had no problems. At least until now... I looked back through my documents to be sure, and my Photoshop was working beautifully through the first week of January. Somewhere between then and now there had to be an update from Apple that broke Photoshop. I haven't changed any settings since it last worked, and there certainly haven't been any updates from the greedy buggers over at Adobe because they don't support CS2 anymore apparently. What could Apple have updated that might have accidently corrupted my Photoshop?? I don't really feel it could be anything else, but who knows... Does anyone have any ideas? I would hate to have to downgrade to OS 10.4 just to use my Photoshop and I certainly can't afford to shell out the extra $$ for CS3.
I appreciate any light you guys can shed on the topic...
    Stan

Actually the 10.5.2 update does seem to have improved things for me with Photoshop CS1. I can now actually type entries into the little boxes for things like crop and brush sizes. The File Browser is still prone to crashing the application though, and there is still some weirdness with opening files by a drag and drop onto the app icon in the Dock. But nothing got worse, and several annoyances disappeared.
One thing to try is to create a brand new admin test user, with no additions (that includes not adding fonts), log into the new account and see if Photoshop will work there.
And speaking of fonts, do you have Linotype's Font Explorer installed? If so, did you get the new updater for it? Some people who use Font Explorer were having a lot of problems after the 10.5.2 update, including Photoshop failure to launch, that were fixed with the Font Explorer update.
