Leopard and G4 dual processor

I'm hoping this is a no-brainer for the more tech savvy.
I have a G4 with dual 450 mb processors.
Will this meet the minimum requirements (867MHz or faster) for Leopard?

Unfortunately owners of dual 800MHz Quicksilvers and dual 533MHz Digital Audios seem to have been left in the lurch slightly. Perhaps Apple thought the number of people affected are likely to be small.
I'm sure ways to get around it will emerge over the next few days though. The following are either known to work or still seem possibilities:
Installing using FireWire target disk mode and a Mac that meets the requirements.
Installing by temporarily moving the hard drive to another Mac, a similar model, that meets the requirements.
Buying a third party processor upgrade (or a pulled Apple CPU daughter card).
Hacking the installer or using a third party utility similar to XPostFacto.

I just got a Dual 1.3Ghz Power logix processor and I wanted to know if Adobe after effects will take advantage of the second chip? I know the Final cut pro 5 will, and all the new apple compositing software(shake, motion, aswell as DVD studio) But will after effects get help from this or not?

Replace powermac mdd single 1ghz processor with dual processor

I want to know if i can if put a dual 1.25 or 1.42 ghz processor in my single processor machine. will it work because what i understand is that i have the slower bus speed of 133 and the dual processor machines have 167. will that matter?

Aftermarket processor upgrades would have to be specific to the Mirrored Drive Doors model. The CPUs for earlier models will not work. So you would have to follow the recommendations of each manufacturer. Maybe someone who has added one can chime in with a recommendation. Otherwise, try:

Dual-core 2.3GHz G5 processor Vs. Dual-processor 2.3GHz G5

I have just purchaced a DUAL PROCESSOR 2.3GHz G5 is there a difference with this to a DUAL-CORE ?
Apple sent me this and told me it was the same thing .
sent me RAM that doesn't fit .
so I call and they say they differ . that i need different Ram
or the newer G5 for an added cost of $500.00
is there a difference or are they milking me?
I feel as they should just send me the new one .

There are some significant differences between the Dual Core and the Dual Processor 2.3 GHz Powermacs. There is the difference in memory and there is also the difference of PCI Express in the Dual Core as opposed to to PCIx for the expansion slots in the Dual Processor. In addition the Dual Core has the 1 MB of cache for each processor which improves performance.
Personally, if it was my machine, I would send it back and request that they send what I had ordered.

CHUD on a dual processor MDD running Leopard (10.5.8)

I finally got around to installing CHUD today and am wondering if some of you folks who have used it for a while might have some easy answers to a few questions.
I first tried version 3.5.2. It installed, but I couldn't adjust any of the settings. I then read on japamac's site that some MDD's could use 4.4.4. I installed that version and it does work (In fact, I'm posting this with one processor tied behind my back). However, there does not seem to be an option for nap mode.
Also, after I toggle between single an dual processor mode a few times, performance in dual mode seems to take a big hit. A restart solves the problem, but I'm wondering if this is normal.
Is there any way to get nap mode to work in a dual cpu MDD running 10.5.8?
Is there any way to get it to stay in single CPU mode when it wakes from sleep?
I read through the discussions at xlr8yourmac before posting this. It appears that some people have been able to get nap mode to work under Leopard, but they are not always careful to mention exactly which version of Leopard and CHUD they are using.

When installing CHUD, it is also necessary to run CHUD remover to deinstall previous installations.
If not deinstalled, odd stuff happens.
3.5.2 is the one for dual processors.
Other versions have mixed dual processor support.
This is one of the claims that 4.4.4 works, but I have lingering doubts

I cannot install Leopard 10.5 onto my PowerMac G5 (dual processor)

I have a new retail full install DVD of Leopard 10.5 and cannot install it to my PowerMac G5 (dual processor). I bought a new disc, thinking it was the original. Nothing! I bought a new SATA 1tb hard drive... Nothing! I have reformatted until I can refomat no more. I have tried to "Safe Boot", holding down C, Option, Shift, etc... Can someone tell me what to do?

Hmmm, with the Leopard Install Disc in use Disk Utility to Verify the DVD, does that come out OK?
If so ...
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
   2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
      *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
   3. Click the Erase tab.
   4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
   5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
   6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.

I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

Dual Boot Snow Leopard and Leopard

Hi All
i am looking to Dual boot my Intel iMac with Leopard (10.5.8) + Snow Leopard (10.6) for testing purposes.
How do i go about doing this?
I have the Leopard install disc
i do not have Snow leopard yet and the only version i have seen is an update disc you can buy from apple for about £25 is this ok to use or will i need a copy of the full version?
if i need a copy of the full version where can i find it?
my current hdd setup is:
1 partician very large for data about 255GB
+ another 40GB Partician with Mac OS X
I assume i will need to create another partician about 20GB and call it Snow leopard and use the leopard disc to install onto the new partician then upgrade the newly installed leopard partician with the new snow leopard disc??

Apple has managed to fool a lot of folks with their pricing. If you paid the US$129.00 to upgrade your Mac from Tiger to Leopard, then you qualify for the US$29.00 upgrade from Leo to Snow Leopard. If you did not upgrade from Tiger to Leo, you should buy the US$179.00 box set, which includes Snow Leo, iLife '09 & iWork.
All of this is based on honesty and ethics. The Leo disks are the same. The Leo disk in the upgrade does not look for evidence of Leo, at least not to install. You can erase and install with the Leo disk, or install on a virgin HDD that has never seen Mac OS X.
We create dualboot systems when we seed test Mac OS X all the time. SuperDuper will make Sandbox partition and install just Mac OS X and Apple apps. It leaves 3rd party apps, your data and user accounts and settings on your main Mac OS X installation. Then we lay the new version of Mac OS X over the Sandbox and boot into it. So we have the current Gold Master of Mac OS X and the new version that we are testing, and we can boot into either and they both share our data and accounts.
That may be more tricky when you are using different versions of Mac OS X, as opposed to different updates of the same version. For example, Leo and Snow Leo have different versions of many Mac apps. I do not know how they might handle your stored data if they handled the creation of music or photo libraries differently.

Yes as I said before. If your model Mac came with Snow Leopard and you are now running Mt Lion and have Windows installed in a Boot Camp Partition all you have to do is make the Mt Lion partition smaller, take the free space and make it another Mac partition and you should be able to install Snow Leopard into that partition.
I have Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt Lion installed on my MBP. No Windows in a Boot Camp partition because I run Windows XP in a Virtual Machine on both Lion and Mt Lion.

Dual Boot with Snow Leopard and Mavericks not possible?

I have a Early 2011 Macbook Pro with 2,3 GHz i7 Quad and two 512 GB SSDs (the secondary disk in an optical drive bay enclosure). This Macbook Pro can run Snow Leopard and Mavericks on the primary disk without problems. When I try to set up a dual boot system however, problems appear and it looks like it is not possible. When I start from Snow Leopard, I cannot select Mavericks as a start volume and vice versa. The error message says something like "Bless tool" cannot use this disk, i.e. unmount and boot from it. The problem remains when I exchange the disks (putting the primary disk in the drive enclosure and vice versa). When I put the secondary drive in an external case however, it is possible to boot from it - but strange things happen when the system starts: My computer clock is reset to 1/1/2001, WiFI passwords are not remembered for more than one session, disk permissions are reported as "repaired" but do apear as not repaired when I check them again - and other issues). I have verified both disks already and repaired permissions but that does not change the situation. So my experience is different from what is said in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/566781. It looks like the latest Mavericks cannot coexist with Snow Leopard on neiter a secondary internal drive nor on an external drive. This is strange since both disks and systems work flawless when run alone. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

When I check the Mavericks disk in the optical drive with disk utility after booting / running Snow Leopard on the primary disk I get som errors, see below ("disk utility Info"). So after all, I decided to erase the disk and install Mavericks new. But even erasing the disk is not possible when it is in the optical drive enclosure. I get this error message:
"Volume Erase failed with the error:
Could not unmount disk"
When I put this disk into an external case connected via USB however, it starts and runds MAvericks without any Problem. Same happens when I put thie Mavericks disk into the internal primary hard disk place.

Dual boot machine- snow leopard and Lion

It appears I will need to set up one of my machines as dual boot, containing partitions for Snow Leopard and Lion. The reason is that Quicken is NOT compatible with Lion, and will apparently never be. Intuits "solutions" are to go to other, far less capable software, or not upgrade. Which, of course means, NEVER upgrade again.
So, I think my best solution is to set up a partition for snow leopard and one for Lion. How do I go about this? Size of partition. How to partition? Which boot disks do I use to do this?
Any help is much appreciated.

Ok, I just got done doing this yesterday so I can lay it out for you.
1: Copy all your user files to a regular external drive and disconnect.
2: Carbon Copy Cloner your 10.6.8 setup to another blank HFS+Journaled external drive and disconnect.
3: Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk and erase your entire boot drive in Disk Utility (under the Utilities menu) format HFS+Journaled (default) of course.
4: Quit and install 10.6. Setup with the same user name as Snow. Run the 10.6.8 Combo Update. Then Software Update.

5: Use the MacAppStore to download Lion, BUT DO NOT INSTALL yet! Cancel it and click on the Installer and select "Show in Finder" follow these instructions to make boot DVD's and dmg images of Lion installer.

6: Once you do that, then Install Lion. On a pristine 10.6.8 with no third party programs or other BS it should go perfectly. Check it out that it's stable just in case or else hold command r and boot into the Recovery Partition and redownload/install again.
7: Once that's done and Software Updated, run Bootcamp and create a Windows partition larger than your 10.6.8 clone naturally. The size is up to you to decide. Cancel the Bootcamp when the partition is created.
8: Hold Option and boot off the 10.6.8 clone with all your stuff and programs, use Disk Utility to change the "BOOTCAMP" partition to "Snow Leopard" and make it a HFS+ Journaled partition from the MSDOS format (not the whole drive now or you'll lose Lion and the Recovery Partition) If this doesn't work then use Disk Utility c booted from the 10.7 DVD or command r from the Lion Recovery Partition and use Disk Utility there.
9: Once that's done, Option boot off the 10.6.8 clone and Carbon Copy Clone 10.6.8 onto the Snow Leopard partition.
Walla, a dual boot system with all your stuff intact. Just hold option upon boot and/or use the Startup Disk in System Preferences to set a default.
I'm currently working on a quad boot system now. It's got Lion, Snow, Linux and will have Windows too. A lot more complicated than simply Snow and Lion.
Note: OS X Lion reguires a internet connection to install, even from a boot DVD.

If you want to get rid of Windows and the BC partition use the Boot Camp assistant program to remove the Win/BC partition. Don't do it manually with Disk Utility Use the BC A program.

Until I installed the SMC FanControl application my screen would "break up" into strange patterns and then would eventually freeze. Please help.

If you are trying to upgrade using a gray-faced OS X disk from another system, that won't work, as those disks are locked to the system types they are delivered with. You'll need to drop the $29 on a retail copy of Snow Leopard, which is available from the Apple online store. Note Snow Leopard requires 1GB minimum, and you may want at least 2GB for better performance.

Labview and AMD 760 MPX Dual Processor Chipset?

Anyone have any experience with Labview on a dual processor motherboard with the AMD 760 MPX chipset [and, of course, Athlon MP 32-bit CPUs]?
Any gotchas? Any known incompatibilities?
On the hardware side, has anyone had any problems with NI-DAQ or NI-DAQmx?
Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks!

It's years I use 6533 high speed digital i/o making 2mhz output without problems on any hardware.
Today I'm trying to use a Tyan Tiger MPX (double AMD)and .....it doesn't work at all. It's surely a problem with the pci bus, dma and bus master. The total speed is 200KB/sec instead of the desired 2MB/sec. I tryied more than one serial number so the problem is a motherboard's design problem.
I dont use labview but only nidaq drivers and C language.
Now I'm changing the motherboard...at least until someone explain me how to work around the problem.
No problems with MSI and Intel motherboards.

Dual Processor and Premiere

Does Premiere make use of dual processors?

The HPXW6600 is using the Xeon 54xx series the last generation of processors and they are obsolete (unfortunately that processor is what i have in my self-built system}. If you are going to go with dual Xeon's you want to get the newer 55xx series which are the Nehalem family (like the i7 processors) which are much much faster for Premiere. They also do not have practical graphics cards available. Etc. Etc.
I guess I am going to have to go into business building Premiere engines we seem to strike out with too many vendors.
