Leopard and Pro Tools

Without going into too much detail, it has come to my attention that Pro Tools is not (yet) compatible with Leopard. Two questions: 1) am i correct in this assumption? 2) does anyone know when it might be compatible? The Digidesign people were somewhat vague. Thank you

ProTools is not compatible with Leopard at this time. All they've said, at least that I can find, can be found here:

  • Final Cut and Pro Tools

I recently installed Final Cut Express on my iMac. I also have Pro Tools 7.4.2 on my machine. When I went to open Final Cut, everything slowed to a screaming halt. One problem was that Final Cut was latching on to my Waves bundle for Pro Tools when it opened. After that, when I restarted my computer it took over five minutes for the desktop to load up. Apple tech support walked me through removing Final Cut, and reinstalling Leopard, but I'm wondering if there's a way for Final Cut and Pro Tools to co-exist. I'm not opening or using them at the same time. 2 BG

The apps should certainly coexist peacefully. If you want to prevent Final Cut from loading your Waves bundle (or any other Audio Units you have installed) then you have to move these units in and out of your /Library/Audio folder. Perhaps worth investigating would be the free AU Manger app for handling these plugs as sets

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance
    TTW13

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular

I dunno, by the time it's "technically" compatible with Leopard I might be able to afford it.
Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Logic 7.1 and Pro Tools...a few questions...

    Hi everyone,
I just have a couple of questions regarding Logic and Pro Tools. My employer has commissioned me to upgrade his studio from Logic 5.0 (mac os version) to the latest version, which is now 7.1.1 (but we may stick with 7.1 just till I'm sure it won't mess up his setup). I thought I'd post just to get a bit of clarification.
Here are the details of his main theatre studio:
    Pro Tools 6.4.1
    2 x Digidesign 888 I/O Interface
    OS X Panther 10.3.5
    Dual 1.25 GHz G4
    1 Gig DDR SDRAM
I've read and seen a lot of posts regarding big problems running Logic and certain configurations of Pro Tools in conjunction, however until now this has not been a concern for me as my studio is purely based off of core audio Logic 7.1 and Reason 3.03. So here are the main questions I have:
    1. How much is the upgrade going to be? Is is just the standard upgrade or is he going to get shafted and have to buy the whole program again (NOTE: he does have the dongle and all the necessary paperwork from Logic 5.0 mac version)
    2. Are there known problems with the configuration that I've outlined above, I really don't want to suggest he go ahead and a) upgrade b) buy the the program again if he must, if there is going to be a problem, he predominantly works in Pro Tools and Logic will just be available as an added selling point to his studio, and composition ablity.
Any information about this or clarification would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance,
    Graham Campbell
PS - if you need more info to answer don't hesiate to ask.

    Hi Justin,
thanks for the advice/info...I got the quote for the upgrade it'll be 435 Canadian after tax (Just curious if we order the upgrade will it upgrade to 7.1? or do we need to get that seperate, I was confused by your wording).
As for the setup my employer hasn't used Logic at all in a professional setting. He had 5.0 Platinum in case any of his clients needed it however that hasn't been the case, he said it was working fine though. As for Pro Tools, his setup the one I mentioned above, has been rock solid all the way up to 10.3.9 (which he has on two of his other editing sweets). So hopefully that will be the case for Logic as well. I've told him that I think he'll need to address the RAM issue as I'm sure he'll be suprise how quick Sculpture etc eat up the RAM.
My main concern was wether running Logic not using the 'built in audio' driver but rather say the Pro Tools interface would be incompatible, hope that makes sense I haven't done any Pro Tools with Logic set ups before so the wording may wrong. Thanks for the reply though, cheers,
    Graham

  • Optimal Hard Drive Configuration for Premiere Pro CS5 and Pro Tools

I am in the process of upgrading a workstation that is used primarily for multi-track audio recording in Pro Tools to use the following Adobe CS5 products for production of promotional videos in HDV (and AVCHD for the web) as well as printed marketing materials for bands and musicians: Premiere Pro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth.
Since Premiere Pro is probably the most demanding application of the group, I have been studying the suggested hardware configurations on this forum with great interest, particularly HARM's suggestions (including his Generic Guideline for Disk Setup) to determine which hard drives to purchase and the optimal manner in which to configure them.
I am upgrading an HP Z800 with dual quad core 2.44 GhZ processors with hyperthreading (16 virtual cores), 12 GB of memory and an overclocked GeForce GTX 470.  Without setting up a RAID configuration (which I cannot afford at the moment), I would like to use the 4 available HDD bays in the Z800 in the optimal manner for Premier Pro, using currently available drives.  I am currently considering purchasing a 300GB VelociRaptor to use as my C drive because of the extended load times and demands placed on the drive by ProTools and the associated Waves plug-ins.
I would appreciate suggestions to improve my following plan:  C (300GB  WD VelociRaptor) for OS and Programs; D (1 TB WD Black Caviar) for Media and Projects; E (1 250 GB WD Black Caviar) for Pagefile (approx. 18 GB) and Media Cache; and E (2 TB WD Black Caviar) for Previews, Exports and Pro Tools audio files.
I have great respect for the knowledge of the members of this forum and eagerly await your suggestions.
    /Bill

I very much appreciate the responses to my email because I know that all of your time is valuable and that you have chosen to use some of that valuable time to help an unknown individual.  This forum is remarkable because of the wealth of knowledge available and the willingness of so many to assist others.
I now wish to narrow my questions to save you time and so that I can get specific advice.  I may not have not been clear that I have already upgraded to the HP Z800 with dual quad core processors and overclocked GTX 470, primarily for the improved performance it will provide in ProTools.  My question now is how to optimize its performance for Premiere Pro CS5.  Based upon my research, I am considering the following two upgrades, but I am open to other suggestions if they would provide better results at a similar cost
    1. I am considering purchasing a 600GB WD VelociRaptor ( WD6000HLXH) for my C drive on which I would place OS (Windows 7, 64 Bit) and programs in an effort to reduce loading times of large programs.  I have two questions: (1) Are members of the forum seeing a significant improvment in program loading times with the VelociRaptor because I am still not convinced that the price performance of SSD's justifies their use; and (2) There are so many models of VelociRaptors now that I want to be certain that I am purchasing the best version for my needs.  In addition to the usual 10000 RPM speed, this model has 32MB Cache and a 3.5" form factor as well as a SATA 6.0GB/s interface (which I doubt my motherboard can take advantage of but it might extend the useful life of the drive with future configurations).
    2. I currently have available for installation in the Z800 the following drives:  (1) WD 2TB Black Caviar; (1) WD 1TB Black Caviar; (2) Hitachi 1TB.  I believe that the Z800 can accept up to 5 SATA hard drives which I will have if I purchase the Velociraptor.  Although I am reasonably knowledeable when it comes to hardware, I have never set up a RAID configuration.  Therefore, it would be helpful if someone could recommend one of the various RAID configurations and brieflyexplain why it would seem to be best for my needs.  I can then focus my research on understanding that one configuration.
I was planning to follow Scott's suggestion for my current 3 drives:  OS and programs on C (WD 600 GBVelociRaptor), media and projects on D (WD 1TB Black Caviar), export files and Pro Tools files (all live musician tracks, no samples) on E (WD 2TB Black Caviar).  However, I have been reading about the benefits of a RAID configuration so I am interested in further suggestions now that I have clarified my questions.
Thank you all for your help.

  • How Do You Work Your Logic Files In Sonar and Pro-Tools?

Hey guys, it's my 1st post. I have a MB Pro and Logic Pro 8 and I'm going to be working in a studio that has Sonar and Pro-Tools in another room. I'm going to be doing my pre-production with my MB Pro and then do the mixing in Sonar because the acoustics is bad at home. How do I proceed thus? In what format do I save my Logic File in order to be opened in Sonar and Pro-Tools? Can Sonar read Logic files? Can Pro-Tools read Logic too?

Hi, if >download Additional Content< is still available, then select it and Logic will attempt to download everything needed. If there's no activity then you're done and if something went wrong, on your network for instance, you'll receive an alert stating otherwise I suppose.
    Have a nice day!

  • Audition sessions and Pro Tools

I was just wondering if there is any way that Pro Tools 8 can open up Audition files. Is there a 3rd party software that allows for that, or is there a particular format that works between Audition 3 and Pro tools 8?
    Thank-you

AA Translator may have the answer but maybe not PT8 yet.

wich one the best for Audio Recording using cubase and pro tools? MBP md102 or MBP md103? i often using a lot of VST too

Well, I've been trying this for a while. By my calculations, at this rate, installing all the applications one by one and trying to restore all the data manually will take me about six years. I would finished just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The main problem is, I don't know where all the bodies are buried. Just one example, I'm using Cornerstone for an svn client. I have working copies of multiple repositories on my computer. I really don't want to set them all up again, and I can't figure out where the Cornerstone preferences and all settings are stored. I couldn't find them in the Library anywhere.
    And that's just one case.
I haven't done much with my MacBook Pro yet, I think in retrospect the easiest course of action is to reinstall OS X as though it were new MacBook Pro, start from scratch, and use my Time Machine backup with the migration assistant and go from there.
And that's what I'm doing right now. I'm in the middle of reinstalling OS X.
Afterwords I'll use a clean app uninstaller application to get rid of all the applications that I'm not using. And I'll just hack away at directories that I know I haven't looked at for years, with the confidence that I have a backup both in Time Machine and in CCC and also on my iMac. That's three backups.
I would rather start out "light", but I can see it's just going to take forever and a day to get it done. Anyway, fortunately nothing is carved in stone, and I can always try again if I want to. But dealing with all the documents and all the applications one by one separately was just obviously going to take too much time.
I'll report back on my results. And I appreciate your suggestion.

  • Logic studio 9 and pro tools 8 le users

    Hello,
I wanted to write this on the logic pro page too. I wanted to know how was the transferring of midi and audio files from Logic 9 to pro tools le. I have both logic and pro tools but have not done it yet. I am still new.
I am recording songs for my friend and he is going to be taking them to be mixed in a big pro tools studio. He wanted to save money and time with me before he went there and get the basic tracks worked on.
My question is, has anyone transferred files to pro tools that can help me (and even to other DAW's) And what transfers well and not so well to pro tools 8 le.
    Lou

To transfer files from Logic to PT or any other DAW for Mixing, it is unlikely you will be asked to transfer MIDI files/regions. There's no guarantee the studio will have the same instrument plugins to playback your MIDI parts.
You need to bounce down each track to separate audio files. Use the File > Export all audio tracks to export every track to a separate audio file which will include only the basic volume and pan automation.
You could choose to bounce each track individually (solo track, File > Bounce)
Bounce in the same sample rate (44.1 for example) and bit depth (24bit for ex.).
Start the bounce at the beginning of the track (1 1 1 1) - or so all tracks have the same start point regardless of whether the drums come in on Bar 9 for example.
Bounce to wave or aiff - whatever the studio prefers.

    Can anyone help

I had this problem. you need to download and install something called a prebinding script from digidesigns website. just google search osx, and prebinding script. If your PT icon just keeps bouncing in your dock and does nothing this should fix it.

  • Logic and Pro Tools

Hello all. I"ve got a few questions concerning Logic and Pro Tools. First, can you trigger Logic's sounds in Pro tools? ie Logic as the "slave" and Pro Tools as the "master" And can you record vocals into Logic using an MBox 2 or is there some other interface I need? If so, what would you suggest?
Thanks in advance for your time

You can use an Mbox2 with logic. If you already have pro tools, or plan on having it in addition to logic, thats what I would do, as both programs can use the mbox2. Although, they can't both use it at the same time. Which leads to this.
It is possible to have pro tools running using the mbox2 while logic is running, using your computers soundcard. I have done this, but I have found no real way to synch them. I've been looking at ways of syncing Logic and Pro Tools together on the same computer, and it seems to be not really doable, although I believe people have done it. A lot of people have one computer for Logic and one for Pro Tools and sync them together with time code, which works really well.
I'm really pretty new to logic, so I'm sure I dont have the best answers,
    Good Luck!

  • Driver clash between Garageband and Pro Tools

I recently installed Pro Tools 7.3 LE on my Macbook to assist me in my aspirations to become a rock n roll superstar. I'm a DJ as well and have been using Garageband for my programs. But after installing Pro Tools everytime I open Garageband gives me this warning:
+Garageband has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.+
+Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.+
After clicking "Ok" a couple of times I get this warning:
    +Mac OS X MIDI Services not available.+
What do I do? Is there some kind of driver I should (un)install?

I've had this issue ever since I upgraded to Leopard. I was running Pro Tools LE .3 and Garageband '08, but Garageband just wouldn't cooperate and give me the third-party driver conflict error. I dug through all my library folders with anything connected to third party MIDI driver (Line 6, M-Audio, intentionally shying away from PT hoping I could salvage it )and deleted it, and still no luck. Eventually I punted and uninstalled Pro Tools, and bada-boom, the error is gone and Garageband runs fine.
I'm pretty sure now that Digidesign is in conflict with Leopard and GB 08, but they're not coming clean about it yet:

  • Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

    Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

    Hi, Joni C
    I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful

  • Need to upgrade - an iMac that works with PP CC 2014 *and* Pro Tools 11.2?

i'm looking back and forth between the two programs' system requirements and i'm stalled out.
Pro Tools 11.1.2 - 11.2 has these two options for iMac:
    2013 27" iMac (*)
    Model Identifier: 14,2
    Qualified Models:
    Core i7 3.5 GHz
    2013 21.5" iMac (*)
    Model Identifier: 14,1
    Qualified Models:
    Core i5 2.7 GHz
    so i'm thinking of this:
    2013 21.5" iMac,
    16GB RAM
Quad core i5 2.9GHz Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB video memory
1TB ATA (with external 7200RPM FW 800 drives for media)
fusion drives aren't supported by Pro Tools so i'm sticking with the ATA.
will this work with PP CC 2014? i need the upgrade because of a project i'm doing in PP but my normal 9-5 job is in PT so i'll need both to run immediately. thanks!

The better graphics option ie 780M for that Imac with the I7. I would also suggest a TB drive instead of Firewire which is higher latency and lower bandwidth for drives.
