Leopard cannot be installed?

I was trying to install Leopard (because it's supposed to be better than Tiger), but when restarting, using the boot CD, everything works fine until after the language selection window, in which it says that Leopard cannot be installed. Can someone give me a list of reasons of why this might happen?

I am trying to install Leopard on my Power Mac G5. I am currently running 10.4.9 I have 2 hard drives installed - a Mac and a Hitachi. I have the retail Leopard install disc.
When I insert the Leopard install disc I don't get beyond step ONE! I double click on 'restart' and the Leopard install disc spins away in the DVD drive but after letting it run for 1.5 hours all I have is a gray screen with the pointer in it. The pointer moves with the mouse so this isn't a true freeze - I think you might call it a 'hang'. I.E. I never get to the 'choose location' screen. I have verified the permissions on my hard drive.
Can anyone tell me what's up?
THANKS to all.

  • "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer"

I have a 2008-2009 mac book pro (The kind that's all silver, no black), It's currently running 10.5.8. I have a snow leopard disk, and the computer sees it. Then when I go to start begin the installation I get "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer." I want to upgrade and I don't want to just go ahead of myself and screw up my macbook, so please give me a hand some one?.
    Thanks

Just wanted to share with you 2 more reasons it might be.  Tech support was going for the hard drive set up being old.  That was one reason they wanted me to reformat.  So a few more ideas to throw in here.  You can go here and read it.

  • Leopard cannot be installed on MacBook Air

I have not been able to install Leopard on my MacBook Air because of an error message "Mac OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer." I have gotten this message when trying to install Leopard via remote disk. I used the disk utility to run a disk repair and no problems were found. I am not sure how to resolve this problem.

Do you have the Ethernet attachment for the MBA? If so, the Install will go much faster.
    1. Insert the Snow Leopard Install Disk into the remote computer (if the remote computer is not running Leopard, first insert the original disk that came with your MBA and install the Remote Disk app, if you haven't already).
    2. Attach by Ethernet cable.
3.Turn off Airport on both computers, and activate Remote Install OSX on both computers. This is found in Applications/Utilities. Follow the instructions.
    4. ON Restart hold down the Option key.
Sorry if you've done this already, but if you haven't, give it a try.

  • Leopard cannot install

have a new MB and have the install dvd for os x leopard as well. I am running tiger at the minute but when i go to install leopard, after choosing english as the main language, it says leopard cannot be installed on this computer... any ideas??
the leopard disk came with the mac not from buying it seperately
    cheers

    Two things.
Did you try installing without using the wireless peripherals? If not, give that a go.
Howver, before you install, get a bootable, external HD, and make a bootable backup/clone and ensure that works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall anything. Then, peruse these

  • Snow Leopard can't Install over 10.5.8

I have a macbook pro that currently has Max OS X operating system version 10.5.8 installed on it. This macbook pro is about 3 years old and has a 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with memory of 4GB and plenty of space on the hard drive (about 86 GB). I put in my new snow leopard install disk (version 10.6.7) and when I start the install the opening screen says "Mac OS X Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer." However, I went online and believe that my computer fits all the specifications and it should be able to upgrade. Does anyone know why this may be happening? The model number of my macbook pro is MB134LL/A. Thanks for the help.

is there anyway to restore the old macbook pro to factory settings as if it just came out of the box without having its original operating disk? Let me know. Thanks.
Basically, no. However if you ring the Apple Store number for your country and give them the serial number of your Mac they will send you replacement disks for a nominal fee. On the other hand, Snow Leopard isn't expensive, and as long as your Mac is correctly specified for it this would probably be a better bet. Be careful about application and printer compatibility, though - some printers ceased to be supported for Snow Leopard (HP are bad in this respect).

  • Wiped my entire macbook drive and now snow leopard won't install over snow leopard server, HELP!

I ordered, what I thought, was Snow Leopard a while ago because I was running Leopard and I wanted to get the app store so I could move onto Lion and then Mountain Lion. I ordered the disc over the phone and the woman sent me the Snow Leopard Server instead of just Snow Leopard, I didn't think much about it so I clean installed it and ran it on my unibody macbook for a while. I didn't see much use for the disc anymore seeing that everything was downloadable at this point, so I sold the disc on Ebay and carried on. The server edition started to slow my computer down due to all of its excess applications and what not, and I read online that Lion and Mountain Lion are also very slow on the old unibody Macbooks so I ordered a regular Snow Leopard disc, now available online, and tried to install it. My computer said Snow Leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard server so I went to disc utitlity and wiped my entire drive while the OS X Snow Leopard disc was running and trying to install. I went back to the install window and it still said OS X Snow leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard Server so I shut down my computer and tried to turn it back on and I all I got was a blinking folder with a question mark in it, what do I do????????
P.S. All of my content is backed up on an external harddrive so I am all good with that.

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting has finished quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation.

  • Trying to install Leopard on my 2005 Mac Mini. It keeps telling me "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." Thoughts?

So I happened to receive a 2005 Mac Mini from my father that was running Ubuntu. Now I'd like to switch it back over to OS X. However, I boot up on the Leopard install disk to install it and it tells me that Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. I've erased the hard drive as a Mac OS (Journaled). Any ideas?

If you hold the mouse button while you power the machine on, the disk will slide out and you can swap in the retail disk.
Then power off, and this time hold down the C key while booting up and it will boot off of the CD and put you in the installer, allow you to partition the disk, etc.

  • HT201364 I tried to download OS X Mavericks v10.9.2 into my iMAC purchased on June 25, 2007 and upgraded to Snow Leopard OS X10.6.8  When I tried to download Mavericks OS X,  the message came up that it cannot be installed in my computer.   Why?

I tried to download OS X Mavericks v 10.9.2 into my iMAC purchased on June 25, 2007 and upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8    When I tried to download OS X Mavericks v 10.9.2 into my iMAC, the message  came up that it cannot be installed in my computer.   Why?

Because there is a flaw in the App Store that gives you an alert you can never ever get rid of telling you to download Mavericks, even though when you click it then tells you your machine is too (I have to say 'darn' here because Apple automatically astersiks out the first word I used that also begins with d and is four letters) old.  So you have to live with that little  "1 update available" alert, though in reality, you cannot install it. You can imagine that either it is a sinister plot to wear away at you to buy some new hardware, even though yours is working just fine, or that it is a programming error Apple just doesn't care enough about to correct.

  • Leopard won't install on Core Duo - "Cannot be installed on this computer"

    Hi,
I have a white MacBook 2GHz Intel and took from a friends black Macbook 2.2GHz Leopard DVD's to install since he will use a mac for Vista. When I try to install it I get a message "This software cannot be installed on this computer" !!! I was surfing on the net but this is usualy problem with old mac's but I cannot believe that my NB is not supported ?!?! Can anyone help ? Also, Apple Hardware Test from Leopard DVD's is giving the same message.

No they are not. 10.5 OS/X install disks are universal. They will not mention MacBook on them. You can not use these CD's on another machine for two reasons: first they will not work. second: it was a license violation for them to be given to you.

  • Leopard Mysteriously "Cannot be installed on this computer"

I've been trying to install Leopard on my (slightly used) Intel MacBook since last night over and over. Every time I boot and start the Leopard Installer, the first thing I see is a window that says "This software cannot be installed on this computer". I've checked all over the internet and my computer and everything (to my knowledge, and patience) is up to date. I have absolutely no idea why this installer just doesn't want to work. I'm installing Leopard from my father's installer disc "1" that came with his MacBook Pro. I'd like to get this all done before my personal deadline (January 7), so if anyone could help me out (quickly!), it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    R_P.

"Federico_82" is correct. The gray disks that are shipped with the computer can only be used on the computer they shipped with and will not run on any other machine. You need to purchase the "Retail" version of 10.5 to install it on your machine.
