Leopard cant see SOME xp files within shared folder

I had a bunch of external hard drives connected via usb to my mac mini, formatted ntfs, which i have recently moved to my networked xp computer, plugged them in via usb, and shared drives on the network in order to remove clutter from my living room mac mini setup.
theres a little problem though. network was a piece of cake, everything detected easily without a hitch, the only problem is ive realized there are some files within certain folders that leopard just refuses to see. when i go into those directories it shows up as an empty directory even though there are supposed t be a singular file or wfolder within that directory. there is nothing extraordinary about these directories. the structure is drives/directory/directory2/directory_n
once i get to the directory n level i can see all directories but there are about 8 out of 40 directories that show up as empty even thoguh they have files in them as verified by xp. i have tried removing any special attributes from these files even thoguh they had nothing out of the ordinary, i.e. tried to remove hidden system archive aattributes. no help. have tried unplugging, replugging, turning off on restarting etc but no help. very very wierd, driving me nuts please help.

Can you list those files in the Terminal?
The command is ls, short for list. The mount-point is in /Volumes, so an example would be:ls -al /Volumes/nameOfShare/path/to/folder/
The -a tells it to list all files, including invisible, and the l tells it to display in list form.
You can also start typing the first few letters of each directory and type tab and it will fill in what it can, stopping on a letter where there is an option as to which directory/file name it might be.

Not allowed to move (only copy) files within Shared Folder (yes, permissions are set to Read/Write)

I have moved my media (Music, Movies, Pictures) to the Users/Shared folder. As I'm doing some cleanup in these folders, I am trying to move several folders/files at once, all within the same Shared folder. I have confirmed that the permissions settings under "Get Info" are set to "Read/Write" and I have verified and repaired permissions with Disk Utility. However, every move I try to do is a copy. I have tried the Command-Drag method, but I'm still left with the green plus sign indicating a copy.
On smaller files/folders, this wouldn't matter so much as I would copy, then just delete the original. But I'm dealing with many, many gigs of music and my HD doesn't have space for holding copies, even if the originals will be deleted.
Very frustrating to have to spend so much time to figure out what would seem to be a very basic file management feature.
I've searched and read and searched some more, but I'm stuck. Thanks to any who can help.

Why I cant add some video files to itunes library?

I have got new ipad 32gb model. I thought I will play some song videos or movies on it from my PC. I added video files to the itunes library. But I see only few files that are added to the itunes library. I cant add some video files to itunes library no matter what I do. Due to that I cand all movies to my Ipad. Please help!

Hi like to explain my experience,
I am using Windows 8 PC and Windows 7 Lap top.
I convert my video to ipad format and add to library in the itunes.
But it was not accepting and these steps worked for me.
1.Convert your video using videoconverters. For freemake video converter works well. You can also use Quicktime pro or Miro video converters. There are many softwares freely avilable.
2.Connect your i pad to your PC/ Laptop.
3.Open your itunes, it should show your ipad and Library.
4.Open the folder of your converted video and try to opening it using itunes by right click.
5.Your converted movies will open in itunes and add to home sharing videos in Library movie option after you login with your apple id.
6.Slect sync movie option and syncronising it.
7.It will come in ipad

Try deleting the account from the phone and then readding it back, Make sure if it is not a Yahoo, Gmail, iCloud, or Outlook, account. to get the correct incoming and outgoing server information

Windows 2008 : How to Restrict Users to Copy file from Shared Folder

I need to Restrict Users to Copy file from Shared Folder. Please let me know is there any method to achieve this requirement.

If user have Read permission, they can copy it. So actually you cannot restrict user from copy your files if they could read/edit.
Some programs could help restrict users from edit/modify/copy the content of their files such as Office files, PDF files etc as Oscar said above.

Can you manually move files within a folder to put them in a specific order?

I am new to mac, I was wondering if there is an app maybe that you could move files within a folder (ie photos) to make them in a specific order and then rename them, I used to be able to do this with my windows xp..... cant seem to make it happen with my new macbook pro and from what i can gather it cant be done? can it? In the Finder? You probably have a sort selected in the Sort By submenu in the View menu. However, the order of icons in icon view won't have any influence on the order of the images in the slideshow, I think. Use iPhoto, this is one of the things it's made for, the Finder is not.

Slow access to DBF files on shared folder in Win7 Prof

I've a LAN based on 5 XP workstations and one Win7x64 computer with shared folder. No firewall, no antivirus software on this machine. There are some DBF-files in this folder. DOS application is running on these 5 workstations. This application uses shared
DBF-files. When I useed share folder based on XP-machine application worked normaly, access to these files was well rounded. After changing the "server" the access is never ending. Browsing/reading/writing data is a horror.
Have you any ideas?

When we configured the application to access the DBF files on Windows 7, have we received any
special errors?
As the application worked well on the Windows XP workstation, might we consider to use process
monitor to compare with the same process on Windows 7?

How to store files in shared-folder in background mode

My requirement seems to be simple but I have tried many ways in achieving this, but failed. So require the help in accomplishing this task.
Requirement
I have to create a program in SE38 which will create a internal table with data in it in .XML format(which I can achieve).
My requirement is this .XML file needs to be placed in a shared-folder in "BACKGROUND MODE".
I have tried using GUI_DOWNLOAD function module, but this FM only runs in Foreground mode and fails in Background mode. I have tried convincing my client that I will keep the file in Application Server as it is achievable using OPEN DATASET statements, but they are not willing to accept this.
So can you please help me in achieving this task as I am not getting any solution how to keep the file in Shared-folder in BACKGROUND mode itself(not Foreground).

When I run this program in foreground mode, the file gets saved(here in the above example I have just used my desktop path. but the actual requirement is to store file in shared-folder i-e Network Drive).
But when i run the same program in background mode, No file is getting stored.

Macintosh HD read only?? Cant see any user files???

Was working on a late 2009 iMac/OS 10.6 the other day with the oddest problem. Apparently my friend was updating to 10.6.7 and the iMac kernel panicked on him. It left the mac unable to boot. Booted from the DVD and ran disk utility, the drives index and b-tree catalogs were messed up and Disk Utility could not repair it. It told me to back up my files and reformat.
Ok not a problem there, I had a 3tb HDD hooked up and attempted to just cp -R the entire User folder from the Macintosh HD to the firewire hdd. Only took like a second to copy and what do you know there were no files in the folder at all. I guessed it had something to do with permissions being wierd since I was booted from the dvd so I installed 10.6 onto the firewire drive and booted off that. I can see the internal drive just fine, and Finder even says that the Users folder is 78gb, but his user folder is completely empty when you look into it. Its completely missing any sort of read permissions so you cant even view the files in the directory. I can see the top level username folder but nothing inside.
I tried to use chmod (and even sudo chmod) to change the entire folders permissions to 777 but terminal just tells me the drive is 'read only' and I cant change anything. My last step I did was basically used Disk Utility to make a dmg of his internal hd and copied it to the external since I had to format his internal drive and get things working. I did check Ignore Ownership On This Volume but that didnt help either. It wont even let me mess with the users permissions that the drive has at all, theyre all greyed out.
Now inside the dmg, I STILL have the same problem of having 78gb in his user folder that I cant do anything with at all, or even see for that matter.
Is there ANYTHING I can try that I havent yet that will allow me to get to his files? Its a bunch of ProTools stuff so its rather important to him. I guess worst case scenario I can try and restore the dmg to a drive or just mount it, and just look at it over the network with a Windows machine.. Would that work or is there something I can do to keep it all done on the Mac itself??

Just to clarify — have you actually tried to load tracks into your Shuffle, using either Autofill or by dragging music or playlists to it in the Source list?
I don't understand you characterize what you tried as a 'mistake'. I use my iPS in just that way and have changed back and forth several times, i.e., from all tracks to all data to mixes of both, with zero problems. It clearly works, and is far from 'useless' for carrying data.
The Shuffle has to be mounted and connected, of course, with iPod > Preferences available. Uncheck the "Disk Use" box and reset the slider, then click on Save. You will normally be able to Autofill from that point, as I did just last evening, slotting in the next 100-odd tracks of music.
OTOH, I have also seen your 'stuck' storage indication one time before. In my case it happened right after I tried using a friend's old laptop PC as a recharging station, which resulted in some other unusual indications from the Shuffle. I eventually had to Restore iot 'regain' the lost memory, and that is the same fix that has been reported as successful by others in this forum.
I can't quite follow your last para. on your own attempts at restoring. If you are doing it according to the Apple instructions and guidance (see the iPod Shuffle Support Page, among other sources) then that would have told you to use a current iPod Updater program and would have given you the exact steps to use.

I cant open some pdf files

I just cant successfully open some PDF files(preview default) occasionally on the new Macbook Air, left with all blank contents, whereas, there is no problem in other PCs, I have no idea at all, need solutions ASAP, thanks.

I downloaded and installed the lastest Adobe Reader(X) yesterday, but it doesn't help, still got the problem.

i already deleted all MP3 songs in itunes & libary, after that i find out some mp3 files are in that HD all my files. though i tried to delete, i can't touch them. is there anyone to solve this problem?

Couple times a day, I get this message:

Not that exact message mind you, as its for different emails from different people. The only way to see the email is to restart mail. Then I can see it just fine. Anybody know why this is happening?

When I open the folder "INBOX.mbox" I see two items. One is a file called "Info.plist" , and the other is a Folder named "Messages". With-in that folder named "Messages" is nothing,,, it is empty. Which bothers me because I HAD 5 messages in that accounts box that I was holding on to because they said that thing (about not being downloaded from server, etc..)...
BUT then like I said, I "Rebuilt" that accounts mailbox thinking that would help me, but with no warning alert or anything, it just seemed to clean up that box and the messages just disappeared in front of my eyes !!
But I thought for sure they would still be somewhere on my hard drive.....
Am I mistaken ?? And because there is no files in that folder named "Messages" does that mean I have absolutely NO messages from that account to dig up from anywhere ??

Cant see PC's in finder shared component

Hi, Im totally new to the mac world. i have a wireless network, 3 PC's and one mac. i wish to work mainly from the mac and have all other computers as servers in the finder shared component. the problem is that i can connect to the PC only manually. i wanna see them all under shared in the finder window. what should i do?
ive search this database but couldn't find the specific solution to my problem.

Without really knowing your network i'll try to help.
Basically you need to have a shared folder on the PC's and know their IP adress's. You then use OS X's Go to Server command and type in the IP of the PC machine. The Shared folder should then be displayed.

As to your first problem, I am not so familiar. But, as to the second problem, I think I can help.
In fact, I have ever also accidentally deleted my hard drive files. In order to re-access them, I have also posted my question in forums, just like you. Fortunately, after browsing many related answers and threads, I just know that a third
party data recovery program can be a good chance to go on.
So, I follow some instructions in these forums and select three drive recovery freeware to go on, including Recuva, iCare Data Recovery Free and TestDisk and so on.
Finally, I have restored all my needed data back successfully with these freeware.
So, I hope it will also help you out.
PS: Never forget to back up everything important on different hard drives or places in case of any similar data recovery problems in the future.

How to read .mdb file from shared folder

In one of my local computer I have a shared folder and within the folder I have a .mdb file. Now I am trying to read that file from MII. I have tried with Get_File_List action block. I am providing the following information to Get_File_List
Folder :

Mask: .mdb
But in return of Get_File_List, I am not getting any file related information. It is only providing like below
