Leopard causing Xerox 4500 to Pause

My networked Xerox Phaser 4500 worked great under Tiger, but after upgrading to Leopard it tends to put the printer in pause mode. You have to constantly go the preferences print & fax panel to 'un-pause' printers. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks for any help.

We have discovered a workaround for our problem with Leopard putting one of our printers to Pause every time a job is sent to it.
We have a mixed network with some workstations running Leopard and others still running Tiger. One Leopard workstation is set up to share its printers for the other workstations to use. The 'Pause' problem is only experienced with one printer and only by the Leopard workstations. The Tiger workstations print without any problem.
We have noticed that when a Leopard workstation adds a shared printer, the printer is named differently than on the workstation that shares them (lets call this one "printserver"). When a printer is shared as "laserprinter" e.g., the name will appear on the network as "laserprinter @ printserver".
The workaround is to call this printer in the same way on the printserver. The effect is that the name will appear as "laserprinter @ printserver @ printserver" on the side of the workstation that adds the printer. That's not a problem. You can safely change that name. Just don't change the name on the printserver.
We have found out that in this way the printer no longer gets paused when a printjob is sent to it.
It's a bit cluncky, but it works, at least for us and for the time being. I hope someone else can benefit from this.
(One of the reasons we are obliged to stick with Tiger is that apparently HP has decided not to Leopard upgrade their RIP software for the HP DesignJet 130nr which is mission critical to us. I find this outrageous and, if true, it will definitely influence our future businness decisions.)

  • Leopard and Xerox Phaser 6100

I am unable to get my work Phaser 6100 to work with my MBP. I have installed the drivers a couple of times, but still can't select the printer from the list that OS X leopard seems to support. Does anyone know how I can add the printer as I am having lots of problems trying to get things printed.
    Cheers.

Hi, interestingly I am able to print directly to the Phaser 6100 but since upgrading to 10.5.2 I am unable to use the Phaser with my Airport Extreme (N) Base Station. I have sent this information to both Apple and Xerox but I have yet to hear from either of them.
The 10.5.2 update is also causing problems for two other iMac G5 in the household when trying to print through the Airport. Unlike my MBP they can intermittently print, but I can't seem to find a pattern.
I have to say that I am quite surprised that Apple successfully maintained support over the major upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5 but broke it on a minor update.
On a side note, when trying to debug the issue I discovered that the driver for the 6100 (and for that matter the Samsung CLP-510) have yet to be compiled as Universal Binaries.

  • Leopard causes Terminal to load on startup - Please help!

    Hello all,
I just registered with the forum here hoping someone could help me figure out what is going on with my MacBook Pro after I installed Leopard. After the machine has started up the Terminal app will open a window with the following text in it:
Last login: Sat Oct 27 21:02:27 on console
    MacBook-Pro:~ Drew$ /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SyncServicesUI.framework/Versions/A/SyncServi cesUI ; exit;
-bash: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SyncServicesUI.framework/Versions/A/SyncServi cesUI: cannot execute binary file
    logout
    [Process completed]
Also, there is a TextEdit window open with the header "HP Communications" but nothing is in it.
Neither of these things happened prior to the install while running 10.4 Does anyone have any suggestions that could help. I can close them after startup but it is an issue I want to correct.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm also using a MacBook Pro, and when I startup Leopard, the Terminal application loads with the following window:
Last login: Tue Oct 30 08:19:58 on console
    /Library/StartupItems/HP\ Trap\ Monitor/HP\ Trap\ Monitor ; exit;
    You have new mail.

/Library/StartupItems/HP Trap Monitor/HP Trap Monitor: line 47: $1: unbound variable

I have no idea what is causing this, and I would like help also. I'll keep looking. Good luck.

  • Playing fullscreen QT movies in Leopard causes dock to appear in movie...

    Strange bug...
If I play a movie in full screen in quicktime, after about 10 minutes the dock will mysteriously appear at the bottom. It's like I moved the mouse to the bottom of the screen -- but I didn't.
The only thing I can think is that the mosaic screensaver kicks on after 10 minutes, but somehow causes the dock to appear during the play of a Quicktime movie.
Any one else have this problem in Leopard?

Same problem on newly installed Leopard - affects QT and is persistent. Never happened under Tiger so assume its a bug introduced as part of the OS upgrade. Annoyingly there is no way to let Apple know they have another bug to fix (aside from the kernel panics Leopard likes to go into...).
If anyone finds what's causing this before Apple get round to issuing a SW update please post.
    Many thanks!

  • UPGRADING from TIGER to LEOPARD causes audio plug ins scan WAVES PROBLEMS

I have upgraded my G5 from Tiger to Leopard and am now running 10.5.8. I am using LOGIC PRO 8 and have upgraded that to 8.0.2. When i open LOGIC PRO and it starts to scan the audio plug ins-it causes a problem that sends me to PACE-the Interlok site for my WAVES-it says this:
    IMPORTANT!
If you're running Mac OS X 10.5 or above and your software keeps driving you back to this site, even after installing the latest extensions, then you need to update your software, not the extensions. Contact the publisher of the software you're trying to use regarding a 10.5 compatible update. Please don't contact PACE. Only the publisher of your software can resolve this issue.
SO-i downloaded their latest extension and i keep getting brought back to their site. My software IS updated -from 8 to 8.0.2
    PLEASE HELP

You provided almost all information except the waves version. Most probably Waves are outdated.

  • Snow Leopard causes computer to crash

I purchased a snow leopard home pack (5 users). The first was on my macbook pro and there were lots of problems with my e-mail account, key chain and a number of my usual third party software programmes will not run on it (bummer as most want me to buy an upgrade license - more expense.
The second computer I ran it on, my wife's mac book, failed to load half way through. The box text said something along the lines of "disk error, take in for repair". When I quit installer and had the option to go back to the start up disk the computer crashed. Now when I turn it on it runs the initial start up (grey screen) for about two minutes then shuts down before it loads the login screen. The disk is locked in side and the computer is not running. If any one has a simple solution short of having to take it to the apple repair shop where it will be incarcerated for a week will be greatly appreciated.
This has not been one of mac's better software upgrades for me and I'm not recommending it to my friends or company (we use mac). The problems are not out waying the so called benefits just yet.

Incompatible third party apps can cause a computer to crash Not SL.
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
Personally I find Snow Kitty to be great but still waiting for some third party apps to be updated by the software writers. Not a deal beaker for me but others are waiting.
Updates are coming in thick and fast from the best Mac software writers and Printer manufacturers but Apple cannot do anything about software writers who haven't bothered to update for SL.
From Apple: To remove stuck discs. Although the Take in for repair message is a worry.
    1. Place the computer in sleep mode.
    2. Press the Media Eject key at the top-right corner of the keyboard.
    3. If that doesn't work, drag the disc's icon to the Trash.
    4. If that doesn't work, restart the computer, then hold down the mouse button.

  • Is Snow Leopard causing my computer to crash, or is it another app?

Every time I open a program (ProTools by Digidesign) my computer crashes. I am curious what is causing the crash based on the crash report.
Based on the report below, do I need to reinstall snow leopard or protools or is it something else?
    Here is the report.

  • Is this creative suite or leopard causing my mac pro to freeze, quit and not sleep?

I hav recently bought a high end mac pro and leopard and I am lucky if I get 30 minutes before the whole system freezes. Tried re-installing in a different hard drive on the pro - same problem. If I put the computer to sleep, 80% of the time when I return, it has shut down. Actions in CS3 are deleted. Everything is a bit random and I can not work it out. Running disk utility, from the computer and disk produces this:
ACL found but not expected on Applications/Utlities
    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" on Applications
    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" on Library
    Permissions repair complete
All software is up to date. I do have some plug-ins that are supposed to be cool with this system.
Can anyone help or do I have to return this computer?

  • Upgrade to Leopard causing internet slow down?

I just upgraded my G5 PowerMac from Tiger to Leopard. The Mac is plugged via ethernet directly into a NetGear router so I can also access internet wirelessly from my MacBookPro. Since the OS upgrade on my tower, I've noticed marked slow down in internet connectivity: web pages load really slowly and Mail takes forever to pull in my mail. Could Leopard be the culprit? Have run a speed test and results show that I'm getting what I'm paying for in terms of up/download speed, but wait times are ridiculous! Help!

If you look really carefully, you see me alternately scratching my head and hitting it against the wall . I'm almost clueless. I'm going to assume that your Internet access is via WiFi, right? If so, the only thing I can come up with is that when you mirror the display there's some kind of electrical interference that gets thrown up. (And I'll cheerfully admit that I could easily be totally wrong!) If I'm correct though, it is possible that switching your WiFi channel, selecting Internet robustness in the WiFi settings, or moving your notebook as far away from the display as possible might work.

  • CS4 and Snow Leopard causing menu problems?

I'm a long long time Dreamweaver 8 Windows user.  Since Dreamweaver 8 has been crashy on the Mac, I've stuck there for a long time.
I downloaded CS4 trial and upgraded to Snow Leopard at about the same time.
The main problem is that pulldown menus seem to be very buggy.  I've got to click them a bunch of times and the computer seems to hang till I've somehow managed to click it.  What's up with that?  It's ONLY in Dreamweaver.  (I don't use other CS4 products so I would know otherwise).
Also every time I go to refresh, or upload or download, it seems that the "Cannot do the operation because DW is communicating with the server already" message comes up.  The second try it seems to work fine...  What's up with that?
Also, why has Dreamweaver not yet added a pulldown which allows coders to jump quickly to functions?  If there's one reserved word that is EVERYWHERE, it's functions.  How come every other IDE has this?  It's 2009 for goodness sake!!!
I'm probably NOT going to spend the money at this point... My hopes for improvement for DW's core functionality after all these years have not been met.
If you want to see a freaking awesome program that has much of the crucial information figured out beautifully, see scootersoftware's beyondcompare3.  PC only, but what an amazing piece of work (the threading is incredible...)
Oh, and code hints and tag completion seems to have disappeared...

Suffice it to say, Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6) has issues with many apps & utilities.

"Snow Leopard also automatically installs Java SE 6,  meaning  programs that require previous versions of Java may not run properly."
I don't use Mac, but I take this to mean that rolling back your Java may improve things.  Not sure, but it might be worth a shot (albeit in the dark).
    Good luck,

  • Snow Leopard causing Printer & Excel crashes PLEASE HELP!

Original install from 10.5.8 to 10.6.0 - now at 10.6.1.
The first install the system was freezing up and I couldn't get the printer to work. Internet was intermittent and slow as was the whole system and couldn't get Quicktime to work. Then the system hung up at the log in screen and went into a loop back to the log in screen effectively making the Mac Pro inoperable.
I wiped the computer and re-loaded Snow Leopard and used a Time Machine back-up to get everything back. Everything I opened worked fine (including the printer). I had to re-install Office:mac 2008 and then the problems started.
1.The printer would crash on anything I tried to print on any app, and the System Preference panel for printers would crash every time I tried to open it. I tried downloading the fix for HP Photosmart 3180 C All-In-One printer and got to a certain point and a warning resulted:
"/system/library/extensions/pulsedriver.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Get update from HP" ????
    2. Excel will open about 5 workbooks with no data and the beach ball spins until it crashes.
A complete wipe and re-install of Office did not fix it.
I also fixed the permissions on my HD and repaired the disk and this did not help.
Is there anything I can do to fix these two areas without wiping the HD and starting from scratch?
The printer started to crash AFTER I installed Office:mac 2008. but wiping the program off the HD did not fix the printer.
    Please Help !!!

I finished validating the fonts and used YUSA to clean up the caches but to no avail. I will look at an uninstall for the print driver and see what that does. My problem is that I can't even get into the print preferences because it fails to open.
Though I agree with you on Office being a very stable program. I am not able to get Excel to open up... It starts up and opens the last 5 spreadsheets that were previously opened before the problem started. The sheet shell is there for all 5 workbooks but there is no data and nothing but a beach ball bouncing around. Summer is over and I am sick of playing with the beach ball LOL
By the way - what All in one printer would you recommend for Mac. The HP printers I have are from my days when I used a (yuk) PC.
Also, I have two other Macs - a 15 Macbook Pro and a recently purchased 17 Macbook Pro - I have not installed Snow Leopard on either one and probably will not based on all the issues I am having with my tower. they run great right now and no problems with Office or the HP printers.

  • Wake from sleep causes Nvidia 4500 fan to go full speed !!!

I have a MACPRO Quad 3ghz with a Nvidia 4500 that i got BTO yesterday.
Everything is fine except when I put the computer to sleep. Upon waking the video cards fan goes into high speed and sounds like a vacuum cleaner ugh.
My question does anyone here have the same configuration (Nvidia 4500 card)
and if so can you test out the card to see if you put the computer to sleep if the fan revs on the card ? Thats the only problem with this computer.
    Thanks
    Doug

No help on the fans, but have you installed Hardware Monitor 3.8 and updated it so you can monitor thermal temps of drives and cpus? During sleep, the system isn't expelling hot air and depending on room temperature it may just require revving up.
Also, you don't mention if it goes back down to normal after 10 seconds or 10 minutes, or never. I assume it is quiet overall otherwise?
Video fan noise is on the minds of a lot of people - otherwise it is a very very quiet system (and want to keep it that way).
There are reviews of the 4500 on some of the hardware sites that may have some information.
