Leopard compatibility with ibook

I want to upgrade to the new leopard because alot of programs aren't compatible with the 10.3
I want to know if I can upgrade to leopard with the system specs that I have. Also if I can.. is there a certain type of leopard that I need? I was looking at buying a sealed copy of it on ebay.. but I want to make sure that it would be compatible too. here are the specs of my machine
Hardware Overview:
Machine Model: iBook G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.07 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1.25 GB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.5f0
with upgrading to the new software is it going to slow down the computer?
thanks for the help!

Unlike Windows, all retail Leopard DVDs are the same (technically, all are upgrade versions), so as long as it wasn't a grey DVD that came with another computer (machine specific), you should be fine.
The minimum requirements for Leopard are an 867mhz G4, which you exceed, and you've got a nice amount of RAM. For some things, Leopard is slightly slower (than Tiger), but I've found that it mostly speeds up operations.
I'd say check out all the software you need to make sure it works properly with Leopard, then back everything up (or use Carbon Copy Cloner or similar to make a clone backup of your computer) before upgrading.

  • Snow Leopard & Compatibility with ATO (Australian Tax Office) CSI applicati

Since installing Snow Leopard on my Mac PRO I have not been able to access CSI and the Business Portal. Have updated to latest version from ATO website but the Business Portal does not recognise the CSI program as present on the computer. Any experience?

Snow Leopard 10.6 & Compatibility with ATO (Australian Tax Office)
ECI V 5.2.0 and CSI V 3.1.19 Using Java 1.6.0_17 required for ATO dealing have 3 issues, the summary below supply the solutions working as at 14 jan 2010.
Newer release version will fix the issues but in the meantime if you need to set up a new computer with OS 10.6.2 . I have summarised the issues and the solutions which I have sourced from online apple discussion and directly from many phone call to ATO support.
Please note: You will need either a new Digital certificate from the ATO with a new password unless or you can export your current Digital certificate from your old computer and you know your current ATO password.
To export existing valid Digital Certificate, Launch CSI certificate manager from within ECI on your old computer select the certificate in the list click the Export button and save it to our desktop, use the default format CSI Store Files (.csistore)
Then copy the file to the Desktop of the new computer running 10.6.x
Next you need to Download ECI and CSI from ATO
    http://eci.ato.gov.au/release/eciclient.dmg
    http://csi.business.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx
    Install first ECI, then CSI
    - Using 10.6.2 on a new computer with a Fresh Install (all new) but importing current sDig Certificate. I have encountered 3 issues as 14 Jan 2010 which are:
    1) ECI and CSI cannot launch see Solution (A) posted posted by Bruce Linn on Apple discussion, many thanks to him.
    2) After resolving issue 1, CSI open and import the Digital certificate but it is not visible, therefore it is not imported, because in fact the csi folder is Write Protected and need to be trashed. See Solution (B) supplied over the phone by ATO support level 2
3 After fixing 1 and 2 , when I import a BAS document from the ATO, when I go to the in Tray and sect the document and click open I get an error message :
Error - BT E103 The XML for the form being opened is invalid. Further details: Content is not allowed in prolog...
See Solution (C) emailed by ATO support level 1
Why the ATO is not posting the solution online saving us to pain of the manyy calls and wait for known issue, this is poor communication and a waste of productivity for all tax payers .
    + A) Solution
    1. Uninstall your current CSI installation by going to MacHD > Applications > CSI and choosing Uninstall CSI.
NOTE:- If you are prompted to download and install Rosetta, please do so as it is an application that allows "legacy" applications to work under the 64-bit environment of the Snow Leopard Operating System. It is on your Original 10.6 Install DVD
Supply your computer Administrator password to authenticate action and follow instructions on screen.
    2. Once CSI is removed, please use your browser to navigate to the following website: http://csi.business.gov.au
    3. Download and save the Macintosh installation of CSI to your Desktop.
    4. Locate the CSIINSTALL.DMG file on your Desktop and double-click on it.
    5. Run the CSI installer package, which will install many of the CSI components to your system.
    6. Once complete, locate the CSI package file (inside the CSIINSTALL.DMG) again and click on it while holding the CTRL button on the Keyboard. This will bring up an options menu - Choose "Show Package Contents".
    7. Double click on Resources, then double click on Jar Files (not Jar Files 13).
    8. Copy the CSI.JAR file to your Desktop, then close the current folder view.

  • Leopard compatability with Panther?

We, as a Design studio, are looking to purchase Leopard and upgrade, but our Data server is not up to the system requirements and is running on Panther quite happily, we dont really want to upgrade our server at the moment, it works fine, but if we were to upgrade to Leopard on all our other Macs will there be a compatability problem with Panther?

Oops, I told a fib. The Microsoft version I'm running is 2004, good news on Photoshop, and I'll double check on compatibility on Sibelius with their website. I think my friend runs this version of Sibelius on his new (within the past 6-8 months) MacBook Pro. I have everything registered so I might be able to get replacements if need be. Thanks to all of the reply's and if you have anything to add, keep 'em coming! And if all else fails, I'll talk to someone with at the Genius Bar and get an answer. Again, Thanks a bunch!

  • Leopard Compatibility with MA199LL/A

I am new to the macs and bought 3 used MA199LL/A . Only one came with restore cds, but all came with Tiger installed. Can I install the Leopard Family pack on these? Thanks for the help.

From research, that model number looks to be a 1.83 GHZ Intel iMac correct? If so then you should be fine.

  • I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lighroom 5 if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?  What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible?  Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense?  I have an Epson R2000 printer.  Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion?  It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Before upgrading to Lion be sure to read this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
    Adobe lists these requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine.

  • Propellerhead Reason 3 compatibility with Snow Leopard?

Before I buy the Snow Leopard update, I want to make sure of compatibility with a few of my apps. I know there are compatibility lists out there but I can't find any specific mention of Snow Leopard's compatibility with Propellerhead Reason 3.
Can anyone with Reason 3 who has taken the Snow Leopard plunge let me know if there were any issues?
    cheers,
    Ian

Propellerhead just released a new version (this week) - I wonder if earlier versions will not even be considered to be Snow Leopard-compatible.
Totally off-topic, I talked to the folks at Carbonite this afternoon. They have a very popular Windows backup scheme - and recently released a "dumbed-down" version for Mac (lacking backup scheduling, and other important-to-many features that are in the Windows version).
"We haven't tested Carbonite for Mac under Snow Leopard yet ... " - was the first statement made by their representative.
This attitude just made me wonder: Authors of US$19 little utilities have released Snow Leopard-compatible versions this week, so Apple allows publishers of all sizes to get into the beta process. But why would several MAJOR applications not care enough to get their collective acts together for us?
And so it goes. I am off to a local retailer, who's opening up at a minute past midnight to sell Snow Leopard for a couple hours tonight.

  • Can a book created with iBooks Author be distributed on iMac's running Leopard OS?

I am a high school computer teacher and I am creating a textbook for the courses I teach using iBooks Author. I have iMacs in my lab running OS X Leopard. With budget cuts and layoffs looming, there is no possibility whatsoever of upgrading to a newer operating system. Will I be able to distribute my textbook to the macs in my lab? If so, would I use iBooks or another EReader application? Or, am I wasting my time trying to create this resource for my kids? Thank You !

    iBooks Author requires Lion.
But when you say 'distribute' if you mean 'read' the final output on your computer....no, sorry.
Use Pages and output as PDF or epub and then use the OS X Kindle Reader...

  • Installing Leopard on an iBook with a CD-ROM only

How can I install Leopard on my iBook that only has a CD-ROM? Can I request Leopard on CDs, or can I use an external USB DVD-ROM drive?

Can I request Leopard on CDs,
    no.
or can I use an external USB DVD-ROM drive?
you can if your ibook is intel. if it's PPC then you need a firewire DVD drive not USB. also, if you have another Mac, you can boot your in target mode, connect it to the second computer and install leopard from there. The second mac has to have the same architecture as yours (both intel or both PPC).

  • Anyone managed to run Leopard on an iBook G3?

I would like to know if there are people who succeeded installing Leopard on an iBook G3? I know that with the current system requirements its not done, but with some magic anything is possible.
If someone managed to install it, please share your experiences of Leopard on an iBook G3 so other people can learn from it.
    Thanks in advance

    Steven:
Next... I'm going to really push the limits and try installing Leopard on my Bondi Blue G3...
Wow! That's really pushing it! Let us know how it goes.
Those of us who have older hardware know that there are many users who run later Operating Systems on non-supported hardware using helper utilties like XPostFacto. There are always those who push the limits, and I expect it will be done again. For me, I see no other reason for wanting to intall Leopard at this time.

  • Should I install Leopard on my iBook G4?

I have read some of other people's experiences in these Apple discussions but want pose the question again with the specs of my own computer. I have an iBook G4, purchased in early 2005, running 10.4.11, with a 1.33 GHz processor and 1.25 GB of RAM (I just upgraded from 768 MB of RAM). I am liking Leopard on my new iMac and would like to upgrade to Leopard on the iBook, especially since I could then use Time Machine to back it up easily to an external hard drive. Should I take this step? How much free space on my 80 GB hard drive should I have in order to make this move? (I now have only 11.75 GB, which I know is not enough, as Leopard takes 9 GB, but I use the iBook for work and could conceivably take off some personal items such as music and photos. By the way, I purchased the iBook myself for work, so I am not breaking any work rules to have personal stuff on the computer.)

Thanks to all of you who gave me the confidence to install Leopard on my iBook G4. I did it very methodically. First, I purchased 1GB of RAM, which, when installed, gave me the maximum of 1.25GB of RAM. Then I pared down my music and photo libraries so that I had a much bigger chunk of free space on the 80GB hard drive. Then I installed Leopard. First I waited for the DVD to be verified (a longish process), but then the installation went very smoothly. All in all, it took under 2 hours. I realize I won't have some of the graphic animations in Dashboard, but I think the advantage of having Time Machine will outweigh that. Thanks again, folks, for your advice.

  • Logic Pro 9.0.2. compatability with Mac OS Lion

My old Mac crashed and I had to get a new one. Now my Logic Pro 9.0.2. version which was fully compatible with Snow Leopard, for some reason does not want to work with the new Mac OS Lion. Is there any way around getting an upgrade to get this program working again? Thanks!

    Hi
You need to download and install an updater from http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Logic 9.1.5 and up is compatable with Lion.

  • NTFS drive compatibility with 10.5 or before

Here's my question: Is there full compatibility in terms of the mac operating system being able to use NTFS formatted drives?
I have windows installed with bootcamp, and find it annoying that I can't access my mac-formatted external hard drive (I know about the program macdrive, but it has limited function as I tried to use one program with my mac drive and it kept telling me that the drive was "already in use" and couldn't be used, aka macdrive doesn't completely resolve usage issues). So I tried plugging in my friend's external hard drive (NTFS formatted) and of course that worked fine. I also accessed a few files on the drive when I was booted in Leopard and there didn't seem to be any problems. So I thought about formatting my existing mac drive into NTFS format since apparently mac can read and write to it fine but Windows can't deal with mac-formatted drives.
Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Are there any compatibility issues at all between mac and NTFS-formatted drives?

OSX can read but not write to NTFS partitions. Windows can't read Mac formatted partitions at all (without the use of third party software).
Your question was about the mac operating system being able to use NTFS. But if you're booted into Windows via bootcamp, you've got it backwards. You're wanting to know if Windows is compatible with Mac formats, not if the mac can use NTFS.
Yes there's a reason - they're two different operating systems, and neither manufacturer has built-in full compatibility with the other. At least with OSX, you can read NTFS drives.
Personally, I like that separation. The last thing I want to expose my Mac data to is all the bad stuff that can happen when booted into Windows.
If you want something akin to full compatibility, you can't beat Parallels. With the intel chips, the only thing that doesn't run super-fast are games. You can drag and drop between the two operating systems, create shares, and set a security level for your Mac to protect it against Windows dangers to it. There are TONS of reasons why I prefer Parallels - easy to back up an entire Windows "installation" by simply copying the virtual hard disk file to another disk; you can save your last windows state so you don't have to go through a whole Windows boot process, you can create 'snapshots' that are better than Microsoft's own Restore Point technology, etc. It's fantastic.

  • I'm trying to find an external drive for the MacPro that will allow me to password protect the external drive in case it is taken.  Any suggestions on a very reliable on that is 2TB or a third party software that is compatable with the need I describe?

How much of a hurry are you in, and are you considering upgrading to Lion?
File Vault on Snow Leopard only encrypts home folders you select, and doesn't work well with Time Machine.
But Lion will have "full disk encryption" of local or external disks.  See File Vault 2 here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html

  • Info regarding Diswarrior 4 and Leopard compatibility

I emailed Alsoft regarding Diskwarrior 4 and Leopard compatibility. Here is the response I got.
+DiskWarrior 4.0 will successfully rebuild a disk that has Mac OS X 10.5+
+Leopard installed or a disk that has been attached to a computer running+
    Leopard.
+However, some operating system functionality has changed within Leopard+
+itself. As such, there are some compatibility issues when running an+
+installed copy of DiskWarrior 4.0 while started up from Mac OS X 10.5+
+Leopard. Alsoft currently recommends that you do not run DiskWarrior 4.0+
+while the computer is started from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.+
+Instead, to run DiskWarrior, you should start up the computer from either:+
    +1) A DiskWarrior 4.0 CD.+
+2) Any disk that starts up in 10.4.x and then run DiskWarrior 4.0.+
+An updated version of DiskWarrior that has complete Leopard+
+compatibility will be released soon as a free download for existing+
    +owners of DiskWarrior 4.0.+
+-- What you can expect when running DiskWarrior 4.0 under Mac OS X+
    +10.4.x and rebuilding a Leopard disk.+
+All features work as expected with one exception: FileVaults created+
+while started from Leopard are not visible to DiskWarrior 4.0 and cannot+
    +be rebuilt (repaired).+
+-- What you can expect when running DiskWarrior 4.0 under Mac OS X 10.5+
    +and rebuilding a Leopard disk.+
+While not recommended (and discouraged), if you do run DiskWarrior 4.0+
+while started from Mac OS X 10.5 you might encounter some problems such as:+
+1) There is a lengthy delay whenever DiskWarrior is determining which+
+drives are currently attached. This delay is dependent upon the number+
+of attached drives and may last up to 2 or 3 minutes. You will+
+experience this delay when first starting DiskWarrior, whenever a disk+
+is attached or detached while DiskWarrior is running but idle, and+
    +whenever a rebuild is completed or canceled.+
+2) You cannot rebuild FileVaults or disk images.+
+3) In step 9 (comparing directories) of a rebuild, the progress bar+
+might get to 100% even though the comparison step is not finished.+
+4) When performing Check All Files and Folders the progress bar might+
+get to 100% even though the check is not finished.+
+5) After rebuilding a disk, DiskWarrior may report that some files or+
+folders have had their permissions changed. This is inaccurate and the+
    +permissions have not been changed.+
+To repeat, an updated version of DiskWarrior that has complete Leopard+
+compatibility will be released soon as a free download for existing+
    +owners of DiskWarrior 4.0.+
    +-- What about DiskWarrior 3?+
+DiskWarrior 3 and earlier versions are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5+
+(Leopard). Alsoft does not recommend running DiskWarrior 3 or earlier on+
+a disk that has Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installed or a disk that has been+
    +attached to a computer running Leopard.+

So, it seems it will work but you need to run it from the disk or if you have it installed on a external drive running Tiger, it will work.
    Thom

If you open your Tiger Address Book, select all cards, drag them to the desktop, it will make one big "mega-VCF" card with a name like "Alan Adams and 543 others.vcf" Dump that to a flash drive or email it to yourself, then doubleclick on it on the Leopard machine. They will all import just fine into your Leopard Address Book.
Try doing something similar with your iCal data, Open the application, choose your calendars one at a time, and select File > Export. That should make a big "mega-ics" calendar card with a name like "work.ics" or "home.ics, i.e., "originalcalendarname.ics" with all the events of that calendar. Then same drill: dump that to a flash drive or email it to yourself, then doubleclick on it on the Leopard machine.
Both generation methods create text files, which should import just fine into the Leopard applications.
