Leopard crashes regularly

Since the last OS update, my MacBook Pro crashes 1-3 times daily. Most often, but not always, once the computer has been put to sleep (i.e., unresponsive when I try to start it back up). The only thing that seems to allow me to reboot in this case is removing the battery, holding down the power button, replacing the battery. Upon reboot, I get the "Mac OS quit unexpectedly" error and am prompted to send the report to apple, which I've done a multitude of times now.
Anybody having a similar problem and know a fix? Thanks much in advance.
Here's a same of the problem report:

Hi,
Check the hard disk for errors. Restart your Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your install disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.

  • Firefox 11 Crashing Regularly on OS X Snow Leopard

After upgrading to FF 11, the browser crashes regularly. It usually happens on pages with some sort of flash on it, whether it be a video page or even a page with flash ads. I have tried turning off the hardware option in flash. I tried turning any video downloading plugins off. I have also tried running in safe mode.
Safe mode works best, but it will eventually crash after some time. I am able to surf in Safari with no problems, which leads me to believe the problem is not with flash, but with FF 11 and flash.
FF 11 crashes so hard, I am unable to get a Crash ID as my whole machine freezes and I have to do a hard restart.

  • OS X began crashing regularly

Hi, I recently learned that I can post the panic.log here possibly to find some clues to what is going on to make the my OS crash regularly within the last 3 months; or ever since I installed Adobe CS3 Design Premium pack of new graphic softwares.
I pasted the whole log here, which started just right after I installed the new softwares. I could not find any previous log, probably because this never happened to me before during all the seven years I've had this computer. I didn't even know that it was possible for OS X to crash. Sometimes it crashed for no apparent reasons, but in most instances if not all I think either Photoshop or some other CS3 software or more than one were opened. A couple of months before this I did add a new hard drive that was fully compatible and nothing happened after that. Until the CS3 pack. I thank you, for any clues at all that you might think of.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

  • Adobe pro XI crashes regularly.

I have Acrobat XI Pro - and Windows 7 (64-bit). Acrobat crashes regularly - every time I use it. I get to use it once (e.g., I can add merge some pages to a document). However, once I save it and then try to open another document, the program freezes up and I get a "Not Responding"

    Hi Sam,
Doing repair disc permissions, normally should not create problems, reason being this is Apple's own built-in utility.
I am guessing there might have been permission issues already on your computer and repair disk permission tried to resolve that problem. But if the problem is severe these things may happen.
I would suggest you first you may try it again if that didn't resolve you should contact Apple support. They may help to repair the permissions.

  • Leopard crashes upon Insertion of USF 1.02 formatted Disk

    Hi Folks,
Here is the latest issue – OS X crashed last night on my macbook.
Reason – Infra Recorder is an open source utility to burn disks fast in windows – it burns in UDF 1.02 format.
Vista peacefully recognizes and plays – on mac – upon insertion of the disk – OS X just crashes.
The send to apple stuff says : mount error – driver issue and driver is UDF driver, as far as I can see it.
This leaves me frustrated – not that I can not burn ISO – I certainly can – but the question is why it should not run 1.02 UDF?
Question – is there any free UDF drivers available on Leopard? And why crash?
In Case Vista can do that - Why Leopard Can not? And Vista does not crash - even with 3rd party softwares - I am a living proof of it. Now with built in software Leopard crashes. WHY?
I already sent issue to apple - this is a serious and blocking issue for me.
I am yet to receive any response!

Right. A little more on the issue.
It would appear that I can burn them to a DVD and mount it but it would appear that there is something amiss. That said it does not crash my system, the just refuse to open and tell me that, 'this is not a movie file/this is corrupt/etc,etc'
Now, with the 4.26GB DVD I burned it would appear that almost everything is corrupt.
But the same file in the disc where the total burn size is 22MB is OK.
A boundary issue like you suggested perhaps?
If movie DVDs are burned in the same format though and they play OK maybe it's the Infracorder that's the problem.
OK, more. I have put the 4.26GB DVD back into my laptop, (HP nw8240), and it also refuses to play most of the files, though it can see them. Have you tried remounting them in Windows?

  • Snow Leopard crashes because of gdb

    Hello all,
I am debugging a binary (assembly only) using GDB 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-1510) installed via latest XCode version and I am interested in watching $EAX for a specific value.
The problem is whenever I set a watchpoint for a register ("watch $eax", or "watch $eax == 0x12345678" i.e.) and issue "continue", the system crashes right away and I get rebooted. If I single-step it, there is no problem, until I continue the execution.
I've tried setting it to use software watchpoint (expecting a less severe error), but still Snow Leopard crashes.
On GDB 7.1 I was facing a similar problem (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4670185/snow-leopard-crashes-after-gdb-attemp ts-to-access-an-address-using-watchpoints) but I let it go since this was a too fresh gdb version. But I don't think this is the case for watching a register on 6.3.
Any ideia? I wonder is there is any log that I could look at.
    Thanks

    Hi,
There was no relevant log info. See console output for "All Messages":

Just before reproducing the crash I generated a debug dummy message ("sdsdsd") as a checkpoint, using "logger", and there was any log message further this one (besides the bootup ones, of course). Bootup messages don't say anything. I checked it using Console and Profiler.
I was also looking forward to see any log or gdb dump.
UPDATE: crash happens for watching a specific value and not for a general watch ("watch $eax" is fine; "watch $eax == 0x12345678" reboots).

  • Snow Leopard crashes increasing

    Hello-
Since updating to Snow Leopard, my mac crashes three-four times a week. Lately it's been happening two or more times a day. It starts with the screen freezing, then part of the screen doesn't display the video correctly (like another image is being displayed...) then it restarts on it's own. I've never seen the display do this- and it can't be a good sign.
I haven't been able to determine any responsible application, and I'm on my fourth SL re-install. Does anybody have any ideas why Snow Leopard crashes so much? Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks

    An update to my problem:
I think there are two types of crashes happening:
    1) _With restart_. This happens almost exclusively while iDVD is rendering video.
    2) _System freeze._ I can't pin these crashes to any application, and I have to do a hard restart to get out of it. These happen almost daily.
I tried reinstalling iDVD from the disk that came with my computer, but he option to install is greyed out. I deleted the iDVD cache in my home folder and themes from iDVD 1-4. Unfortunately it is still happening.
    Ay thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Fax Service crashing regularly

    Hi,
the Fax Service on my 2008 Server x64 crashes on about 30% of received faxes. The fax is received and put into the Queue folder. It is visible correctly in the inbox of Windows Fax and Scan. However it is never delivered by SMTP to the receiver configured.
The event 1000 logged is always the same:
Faulting application fxssvc.exe, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a273, faulting module msoeacct.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791ad40, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x00000000000362f7, process id 0x19c, application start time 0x01c8a4920074d366.
I tried to configure different SMTP servers including the SMTP server on the same 2008 server however the service still crashes regularly. SMTP server works with anonymous access and has no spam filter installed.
    Anybody has a similar problem?

    Hello,
Please try to create a new user account and logon your Windows Server 2008 using this account.
After that, please check whether the crash issue still occurs.
As this issue might be caused by modem, I recommend you change the modem and have another test. If the issue still occurs with new user account and modem, please collect a memory dump to locate the root cause.
Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the TechNet Forum.
A support call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service.
I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for further investigation.
For more information on available CSS services, please click here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607.
    Thanks for your understanding!

  • SMBD crashing regularly

Hello Apple Support Forums! I have a client who's Samba is crashing very regularly with:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000008
I'm stumped as to why and what to do. They're constantly jiggling the mouse on the server to "wake it up". I'm pretty sure waking up the server has nothing to do with the Samba Daemon coming back alive. To be sure this server never sleeps/hibernates/powers down.
    Attached is a crash log:

Preferences are only saved when quitting the application in an orderly fashion.  Set your preferences, then immediately quit Photoshop, then re-launch it.
You should try figuring out why you're crashing in the first place.  I've been using Photoshop 11.x ("CS4") since the day it was released and it hasn't crashed on me once.  I use it easily in excess of 40 hours per week.

  • ITunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard crashes

My iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard crashes after several minutes from starting. I've tried to reinstall it many times, but nothing helps. What should I do to solve this problem?

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!

  • Acrobat Pro X 10.1.6 crashing regularly.

Acrobat Pro X 10.1.6 is crashing regularly.  We have CS5.5 on one machine and CS6 (cloud) on the other; both are crashing Acrobat.  Sometimes it's a general 'encountered an issue . . ' failure, sometimes a DEP.  I see a number of Acrobat X crashing issues, most are related to CS6.
