Leopard Desktop Display - How to Size Photo Centered on Desktop Screen ? ?

6/14/2008. Since I installed Leopard two days ago, I have a challenge that I did not have on OS X 10.3.9. A "minor" one. I changed the color on my desktop screen, via System Preferences and Desktop and Screen Savor. I chose to use an imported photo, .jpg type, which I had imported into the Pictures or Picture Folder. I picked out the color for the screen. I selected "center" of where it should appear on the screen. Voila. It happened. I'm often ecstatic when computers and their directions work correctly and simply and directed. But the .jpg photo is only 2 high x 4 inches wide. The OS X 10.3.9 held it at 4 x 5 inches. How can I adjust Leopard or the photo to show it larger, so I don't have to squint to try to view the photo on the center of the desktop screen ? ? I will be happy for any suggestions and answers. Best wishes and thank you. C. Yopst, Chicago

when you choose this option, the image is displayed at its actual size, whatever it is. you can use the option "fit to screen" to make it larger. alternatively, resize the original to the size you want (for example, iphoto can adjust the size when you are exporting a pic, it's even easier in Preview) and use that as your background picture.

        I'm sorry to hear you no longer have access to your pictures ItzKB11. I know they're important, we'll do everything we can to help. However, since you did not back them up to any source and the screen does not work, we only have a couple options. Try using the USB cable to tranfer to PC:
    From the Device to a Computer
      • Launch Windows Explorer.
    Using the computer keyboard, press Windows E (  E) keys.
    Alternatively, right-click Start then click Explore.
      • Using Windows Explorer, navigate to:
      • SCH-I545 > Phone
      • Utilize the computer to copy video/picture files from the following folders into the desired folder(s) on the computer's hard drive:
      • DCIM
      • Download
      • Movies
      • Pictures
      • Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
    If you're unable to retrieve them that way, use this http://vz.to/1zyIQwo.

  • 3000 C200 Monitor issue - Desktop displays inverted colours (like photo negatives)

    Hi,
    My LCD monitor is displaying EVERYTHING in inverted colours (desktop, websites, photos etc.)  It just started doing this earlier today when I moved the laptop from my desk to the couch.  Can someone tell me how I can fix this, or if there is a utility (for Windows XP) that enables my PC to invert colours (for the whole computer, not just for images).
    I have adjusted display properties and checked High Contrast in Accessibility options.  I have also tried PowerStrip and different magnifiers, and I have checked that my video and adapter drivers are up to date.  I believe that this is a problem with the LCD screen and not with my settings.  If it is a physical problem with the monitor then my warranty has run out so I would appreciate it if you can recommend the correct parts to buy to fix this or possibly a tutorial to show me how to open the monitor and fix it myself.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum, [b]prohyster[/b]
    Try downloading one of so called "LiveCD"-s, for example [url=http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd ]hiren's[/url] , or PartedMagic or another program that can use 32-bit colour in non-windows enviroment (Linux is acceptable also as non-windows enviroment ) and check whether the problem persists. If colours are normal, the problem is in drivers or registry tweak, thus haven't hear about such thing ever.
    Another (simpliest) way is to take screenshot and e-mail it to someone that owns a normal-colour-displaying comp. If the screenshot is clear (colours are ok), then problem is in your LCD and you'll have to have a pleasant date with service-centre =)

    How can I eliminate the borders when emailing a photo from within iPhoto 9? Also how can I be assured the photo will achieve the maximum physical size when I place it in an email. Some photos are larger when I put them in emails, some smaller

    How are you addiing the photos to the email? If you're using Mail then you can set the size of the image via the menu at the bottom right corner of the email window:

  • Displaying an Ipad 1 photo on a TV screen

    Hi. I want to show photo images (one at a time) on a large screen TV for a class I teach. I have a first generation iPad, a HD TV and the HDMI cords, etc. Is this ONLY possible with the slideshow format (which has too short of viewig times for my purpose)?
    I am grateful for your experiences.

    What format video inputs does the flat-screen TV have?
    IF it is a HDTV with HDMI input, all you need is a cable that connects from the DVI/D connector on your computer to the HDMI connector on the TV. Otherwise, you will need an appropriate interface from your computer to the TV. Check with your local Apple store for more information about this.
    Once your TV is connected properly to the video output of your computer, go to System Preferences/Displays menu and check the button: Detect Displays. This will put a window onto both the displays (your computer and the TV) wherein you can select the proper settings for each. (Default settings likely will be highlighted already.) This also should show your desktop pattern on both displays. (If you want, you also can go to the System Preferences/Desktop and Screen Saver menu. Here you can change the arrangement of the two displays and select a desktop pattern for each. The display with the menu bar across the top will be your Primary display; normally, this should be your computer screen.)
    Then, in Keynote, go to the Keynote Preferences/Slideshow menu and checkmark the button: Present on Secondary Display; this will put your slideshow on the TV screen. Finally, go to Keynote Preferences/Presenter Display menu and checkmark the button: Use Alternate Display to show Presenter Information; this will put the Presenter Display on your computer screen.
    Good Luck.

  • How to keep content centered in full screen mode

    I've searched all over Google and in here but am surprised to
    find nobody else with the same problem!
    How do you keep all of the items centered inside a Div when
    switching to full screen mode in IE? Everything in my "#global" Div
    shifts upwards creating a big mess and doesn't stay where it should
    in my content box (which is part of the background. There's no
    problems when resizing the window by dragging, just when using full
    screen mode. Here is my body and #global code:
    body {
    background-image: url(images/background2.jpg);
    background-color:#ECE5C8;
    background-repeat:no-repeat;
    background-position: 50% 50%;
    margin-top: 4%;
    margin-bottom:4%;
    #global {
    margin:auto;
    position:relative;
    width: 784px;
    height:554px;

    > background-position: 50% 50%;
    > margin-top: 4%;
    > margin-bottom:4%;
    Why use a percentage margin?
    Can we see the rest of the page?

  • We can see thumbnails of horizontal photos but can't see full size photos after data transfer to new mac

    hello,
    We just updated to a new mac from a 7 year old Mac because the logic board died. =The Apple reseller did a data transfer and now we cannot see full size photos on our new screen. We see the thumb nails but when we try to open a photo in the photo section of the library we get a black screen with an exclaimation mark. How do we fix this?
    thanks!

    When you first boot your new Mac, it will boot into Setup Assistant. It will walk you through registration and then ask you if you want to migrate. Choose the disk you want to migrate from and choose all settings. No newer apps will be overwritten with older ones. No third party software will be lost. Although you should check compatiblity of apps with ML.

    What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

    Strangely enough we can not see you so it really helps if you share with use exactly what you have, exactly what you did and details about the problem
    what version of iPhoto and of the OS? What exact steps did you do? where are you seeing these "thousands of cascading photos" now and using what software and what exactly did you want to accomplish
    The correct way to move your iphoto library to an external drive is to verify the drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journal) and then drag the iphotl library intact as a single entity to is
    The correct way to move some or all of your photos is to select them in iphoto and export 9file menu ==> export  --  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921 ) to the external drive

  • How can I turn on/off Desktop Volume label displaying disc size?

    I upgraded to Leonard 10/26. A few days ago, I noticed that the icons on my desktop were displaying disc space. I don't know what action caused this to occur, hence Ido not know how to disable it. It is a little annoying in that it specifies "nnn.n Gb free" except the amount displayed is the size of the volume, not the free space.
    I've search the web and a number of forums, but can't find any topic dealing with this.
    Any thoughts?

  • Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which the 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library with the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library?

    Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library within the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library to figure out what's happening, and if there's stuff in there I need to delete?

    Best to keep the terms clear.
    You export photos from iPhoto.
    You move the iPhoto Library to an external disk.
    They're are quite different processes. Exporting means at the end you have a file outside iPhoto. Moving means the files are still inside iPhoto.
    So if you say:
    I'm currently exporting the  library to an external drive
    That reads like I''ve selected all the photos in iPhoto and am exporting them to a folder on this external drive, and at the end I'll have a folder full of photos outside iPhoto. Is that what you mean?
    Is it best to have a 'master' I photo library on an external drive for all the thousands of pics Im never really going to look at often - and a smaller one kept on the HD for day to day usage ...
    Best? Hard to know. It might make sense on a portable. But if you're on an iMac why do you need a smaller one on the internal? Why not just have the whole library on the external? There is no performace hit.

  • HT201302 The laptop I was using to upload photos from my iphone is no longer good and I want to use my desktop instead but it is displaying an error that the iphone has no photos in it. How do I start using my desktop to upload my photos from my iphone5?

    The laptop I was using to upload photos from my iphone is no longer good and I want to use my desktop instead but it is displaying an error that the iphone has no photos in it. How do I start using my desktop to upload my photos from my iphone5, is there any software I need to download?

    Photos on the phone in the DCIM folder are those located in the camera roll. Photos that are synced to the phone from the computer cannot be accessed in this manner. They are synced and the only way to manage them is to connect the phone, go to the photos tab and un-select the folders you want to remove or go into the folder photos are located in and remove the photos you no longer want to sync. Then sync the phone and the photos will be removed.

  • How can I display total playlist size in iTunes 11.  It used to be visible for each playlist or CD, but I can't find it now.

    How can I display total playlist size in iTunes 11.  It used to be visible for each playlist or CD, but I can't find it now.

    The Friend: Thanks from me too for that super simple fix!! I feel kinda stupid for not knowing that.
    Too bad Apple didn't:
    Give it a more intuitive name than "Status Bar"... "status" is what is shown at the top of the window along with the Artist and Song Title, e.g.; how far into the song/podcast/video I've played and how much is left,
    Put the keyboard commands in a more prominent place in their release notes when version 11 came out so we could more easily find the information they decided to hide in this attempt to make the desktop less cluttered and
    Allow us the option of displaying the data size along with the song count and duration just beneath the playllist title. The status bar is a redundant listing of information except for the data size!  Poorly conceived!
    Perhaps Apple will remedy this in a future release. For those of us who like to burn our playlists to CD, DVD and even a thumb drive this information is essential. WIthout it, we're left to guess whether a given playlist will fit on our target device.
    Thank you!

  • How to use full size photos in iWeb?

    I'm trying to create a web site with photos I've taken, and I want the *full size* photos (1024 x 768, 1280 x 960, etc.) to open when a thumbnail is clicked. The whole point is to publish desktop pictures. iWeb seems intent on downsizing my pictures no matter what I've tried, which is getting very frustrating, and makes them useless for desktop pictures. How do I get iWeb to stop messing with my photos and just do what it's told to do?

    TiBook 667   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    I think I understand what you are trying to do. Perhaps what you could do is to basically have a page with thumbnails of your desktop pictures. Maybe you shouldn't use the readymade photo gallery templates in iWeb...they will just have the whole downsized slideshow as you have seen already. Just choose a relatively blank template page like Movie and delete the movie placeholder. Then make your desktop picture thumbnails. And then maybe you will have several different resolutions of each picture, so you make links under each thumbnail so that when they are clicked they will download the appropriate picture file. I think you just use the "Link to file" option in the Inspector panel. Good luck!

  • How to get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?

    How do I get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?? ... ie when I spacebar on them I get the exclamation mark ;-(
    I've tried rebuilding the library with all options checked; with all except the last 2; and just the first 2 on thumbnails; and the 2nd only. All to no avail!
    I expect iPhoto Library Manager would do the trick but don't want to redo my faces stuff which I believe it can't cope with yet ;-()
    Long story how I got here but I've re-added recovered full size files that iPhoto '08 "lost" and now in '09 I want to get rid of the thumbnails that point to the missing files.
    I now have 2 thumbnails of most pictures - one that works to the full size and the other that gets an exclamation mark! ... I want to get rid of the latter.
    I can obviously just press delete on the thumbnail but I need to do it ~ 20,000 times ;-()
    A thought ...can I use search somehow to only return the duds?? ... then delete all.
    TIA
    Barry

    You may have to start over from scratch as follows:
    Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
    Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    Open the library package like this.
    Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
    This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
    This will get rid of all the orphan thumbnails and give you a clean library. Before doing that you could follow the first 8 steps of Old Toad's Tutorial #1 which will write the keywords, titles and comments to the original files so they will be there in the new library.
