Leopard do not boot after sotware update

Last past days I did the routine software update (it should be about last Friday). Not sure what it contained but it was a bigger than ususal: itunes, some security patches and a couple of other components. I did it and my laptop was working afterwards. I cann't rememeber whether a reboot was required, i think it was. About that day I also unistall using the uninstall software the trial version of SnapzProxX. Not sure about the sequence of these two actions.
I can not recall any problem just after doing that. But then Monday night I shut down my laptop and back on Tuesday the laptop took like 15 minutes to boot and got in a useless status once finished without even recognizin my airport settings and many other componenets.
Any advice on what to do?
PS In the attibutes of this post I wrote 10.5.4 but not sure what I got, definitely I am in the most up to date version. But I can not log in again to check anything.
By the way, I did boot in safe mode and the problems were exactly the same
Now I am travelling and my laptop has been left behind. So no chances to try anzthing on my laptop for the next days/weeks (uncertain when I will be back)

I'd say at this point, a reinstall of leopard is your best bet. you could try booting off th grey installation disks.

  • Macbook pro (snow leopard) will not boot after software update

I helped my mom buy a Macbook Pro for herself for Christmas. Today, I connected it to her old eMac and used the migration assistant to transfer files over. It was unable to estimate migration time on the only user (after 45 minutes) so I didn't migrate the user. Then I tried to pair her macbook to her new bluetooth keyboard, but no magic happened, so I tried to use the bluetooth setup assistant, which crashed. So I ran a software update, hoping that this would fix whatever the bluetooth problem is. Despite having updated on the 23rd, there were 4 updates. None seemed applicable but I installed them anyway. Now the computer won't boot at all.
Software update said that I had to restart for the updates to take effect, so I restarted. The harddrive went whirrrrrr and the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning circle displayed. Then the harddrive stopped going whirrrr and 10 minutes later, I started looking on the support site for what to do. I found this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10564149&#10564149
Per the instructions in the last post, I fscked the drive (although -f, in accordance with the fsck help). This found no problems. The next suggestion was to boot from the OSX install disk. Only one problem-- there was a disk in the disk drive when the problem occurred and the disk eject button apparently only works while in the gui. I can't install from disk if I can't get the existing disk out of the drive.
So, any other ideas on what I can do to get this machine to boot?

    Hi Jen:
Since it's new, you're entitled to 90 days of phone support (3 years if you buy AppleCare). It sounds to me like you may have some hardware issue(s) going on - you should not have the sorts of issues you're having with a new Mac. Apple will probably be much better and faster about getting you fixed than this board may be able to if that is the case.

  • Mac Mini will not boot after Security Update 2008-007

    Hello,
A G4 Mac Mini machine I was asked to take a look at will not boot after the owner (succesfully) installed Security Update 2008-007 from Software Update. Booting always hangs at the blue screen after the Apple logo, and booting in verbose mode reveals that WindowServer is crashing repeatedly. Permissions and filesystems have been repaired, PRAM reset, etc. Safe boot also exhibits the same problem, but it is possible to boot to single user mode. Hardware checks out fine with diagnostic utilities.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? Unfortunately, backups are not available (it's not my machine =).

  • HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot after windows update (windows 8.1)

After a series of windows update (windows 8.1) my HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot up, no fan noises, no lights no nothing.
I have tried a "hard reset" a number of times with no success.
When the battery is present the white LED flashes 3 times when the power button is pressed.
    Please please help.

    Hello Cuffy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you notebook will not boot after a series of Windows updates.
Can you tell me if you are able to access the HP Recovery Manager by repeatedly tapping the F11 key while the notebook turns on? If you can access this, try doing a system restore to before you installed the updates. If not I would suggest you go through this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
If it's the Caps Lock light that is blinking this document will tell you exactly what the error is (spoiler: 3 beeps is a memory failure). This could also explain the failed updates. The updates are stored in the RAM before being applied to the operating system.
You can try reseating the RAM, or using only 1 of the RAM cards, as you have 2x4GB cards. If it still doesn't work with 1 card, try the other card to confirm it has failed.
You can replace defective cards via HP Phone Support if covered under warranty or at the HP Part Store if not covered. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.

    hi sathish291
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
    2. Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.
If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into WIndows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

  • Satellite Pro L300 will not boot after Bios update

    Help please.
I have just formated a Satellite Pro L300 laptop.
I used all the updated drivers from Toshiba and all went very well.
I then updated the bios with the latest version.
After doing this the laptop will not boot but just keeps scrolling through the start menu and no matter what option I choose it just keeps doing the same thing.
    Any ides welcome

    Hi
I used the Microsoft installation disk but just keep getting to the same stage until the blue screen appears. I have tried different installation disks and also changed the hard drives as well. I can do everything in bios, change boot device enable or disable devices but that is it. I have tried a few times to instal windows but it just stops at the same point saying windows is stopping instal to protect the system. I fear the bios update has done some permanent damage as I cant get past the dreaded blue screen. Thanks anyway

  • HP G62-a22se not booting after bios update

Yesterday, i downloaded an update from HP's site for my bios and since my laptop is not booting. on reboot i see the caps lock flashing twice each 2 secs. is there anything i can do to reflash bios or undo the update?? any help would be appreciated.

Disconnect all peripherals from the laptop. (external drives, mice or other devices)
Remove AC power, remove the main battery, locate and then remove the RTC coin cell battery for 15 minutes. RTC battery is located in the memory module bay on this model, L shaped cover with 2 screws, you will need to remove the main battery before removing this cover.
Put the coin cell back in and connect AC power only, see if it will post the HP screen, if it does Immediately use F10 to enter the bios and set the date and time, save changes on exit.
If it does not start, power it back down, hold all 4 arrow keys down and power it up while holding keys for 2~3 seconds after power up, let up on the keys and wait (2~3 minutes) to see if the bios recovers. If you get the HP post screen, enter the bios and set the date and time before booting into windows.

  • Snow Leopard will not boot after TM Restore

I had an email issue (lost 5 accounts) that has turned into a nightmare. Apple Support told me to restore my entire hard drive from my Time Machine. I booted to the DVD and selected a restore point and 12 hours later I get the Apple with the spinning wheel. I have tried two restore points - same result. It will not boot in safe mode either. I ran the Verify Drive utility and the drive checks out.
The drive is about 75% full after this TM restore operation so it appears it is pulling all of my data into the machine.
I have a number of backups of my system including a full one on ARQ plus all the TM backups. I am just not versed in the Apple OS enough to know how to recover from this point.
    Q's:
    1. Is it possible that the data and the Apps have been restored but the OS is simply corrupt on the TM?
    2. Is there a Repair feature on the SnoL DVD or am I faced with a fresh install?
    3. If I do a fresh install, can I simply copy the Apps folder back in the machine and my apps work correctly? (I realize a few may not that have to have components in browsers or whatever).
    Suggestions on recovery approach...
    Thanks, Uursa

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
That's possible. Once you can get it to boot you can explore that.
    2. Is there a Repair feature on the SnoL DVD or am I faced with a fresh install?
Soon after booting from that DVD you should see a Utilities menu with Disk Utility under it. With Disk Utility you can perform a "Repair Disk" operation.
    3. If I do a fresh install, can I simply copy the Apps folder back in the machine and my apps work correctly?
You could first try installing OS X 10.6 over what's already there. You might also learn more about what's wrong by doing a "verbose boot':

  • Macbook pro not booting after software update

    Dear all,
Since two days ago my macbook pro hangs at the gray apple screen, the round circle keeps on turning. Kept it running for nights but it does not exit this status. I read on the internet that I could run it in verbose mode, that's what I did, see screenshot below. What do you recommend? This seems to be a hard disk issue. How can I boot up in safe mode and possibly recover the hard disk data? Any other recommendations?
    Thanks,

Get your Mac to a Computer repair service, or do it yourself. You will need to put it in an external SATA reader, like I did. I recovered files via an older mac running Slow Leopard and copied files to it.
    What I did:
    1. You will have to remove the screws at the bottom of your Mac, in order to get to the HDD (or SSD, whatever you have).
    2. You need to remove the HDD and put it in an external Case/SATA reader
    3. Copy files from your HDD to another Mac
    4. On that other Mac, go to Disk Utility (search in spotlight) and Erase as 'Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)'
    5. Download Mountain lion on another Mac from the AppStore, and go to that Applications folder.
    6. Right click on the downloaded file and select “Show Package Contents”. Go to “Contents” and jump inside the “SharedSupport” folder and you’ll find a file titled “InstallESD.dmg”. Copy this over to the desktop.
    7. Plug in a USB flash drive to your Mac having at least 4GB memory. We highly suggest going ahead with an 8GB one just to be on the safe side.
    8. Now open up “Disk Utility” and drag InstallESD.dmg from the desktop to the left-hand sidebar. Select the attached USB from left side and click on “Partition” tab.
    9. Select “1 Partition” from the Volume Scheme dropdown menu. Choose “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” from the left.
    10. Now click on “Option” at the bottom. Select “GUID Partition Table” and press OK. Now click on Apply at the bottom right to start formatting.. (NOTE: This is will erase all data on your USB flash drive)
    11. Once the drive has been formatted, click on “Restore” (it’s right next to where you clicked on “Partition in Step 5).
    12. Choose USB drive you plugged-in in Step 5 as “Destination” with the InstallESD.dmg file as “Source”.
    13. Click Restore and type in your password (if you have any). This will create the intended Lion bootable USB flash drive
    14. Reboot your Mac with the USB drive plugged in. Hold the “Option” key on your keyboard when you hear the iconic OS X startup chime. You can now boot into your Flash drive from there.
    15. Follow the on-screen instructions to install OS X , and after that, reboot
    16. Format USB back to FAT in Disk Utility, copy your files from old PC to new using the USB.
That's it, you're done . Takes a lot of time, but recovered my Mac this way!

  • Powermac G4 1,5ghz will not boot after OS update or software install

I have a very strange problem. A book is fallen on Powermac G4 12" 1,5 ghz from the bookshell when the laptop was open. It landed neer the space bar.
Since then, my powerbook works most of the time if I clean install the OS (tried with 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 cd's), works most of the time, sometimes the problem stays. If i update the OS or install for example Ms office the problem will show up agian.
The problem is the powerbook will not start up anymore. The powerup screen shows with the apple logo and after a minute he reboots again. The powerbook does not start up anymore. the problem is solved when I reinstall an OS. But when i update of install software it's there again.
    Strange?????

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test that is on one of the discs that were originally shipped with the computer?

  • Lenovo w510 will not boot after BIOS update

    Hi,
This morning I used the windows bios update utility to update my Lenovo w510 type 4318. Everything appeared to have been successful until the machine rebooted. It froze on the lenovo splash screen with text saying to press the blue think vantage button for more options.
I waited a good 30 minutes to make sure it wasn't processing anything before trying again. When frozen pressing the power button cause system to beep two times Pause and beep three more times.
Called Lenovo support and was told since out of warranty (2/12) the onlyI option is for paid mail in repair at quoted maximum of $575. Needless to say I was very dissatisfied - and made this clear to support who informed there was no way to escalate and no other options.
Does anyone have any other options or ability to escalate this case and keep a Lenovo customer. really disappointed

NEVER use the .EXE method for a BIOS update.  Always use the .ISO and the CD/DVD boot method.  Never update after the warranty expires.

  • Computer will not boot after bios update

This afternoon I recieved an urgent BIOS update in much the same format as I have received updates from HP for years. It was accompanied with some other non urgent update.
So I gave  the permissions to make the update.
I recieved a notice that the update had been successfully completed and the computer said it was restarting.
The problem is that it never woke up...
After several minutes I manualy restarted the computer.
As the boot began I heard three beeps, and then nothing but a black screen.
I shut down and restarted after several minutes but this time no beeps just black screen.
I figured that somthing must have corrupted the BIOS
I began researching what the three beeps mean.  Appearently three different sets of BOIS were used in this model.  Different BIOS have different beeps.
Well I sure never  thought I would need to write down what BOIS I have...
In my research I have see referances to holding down certain F keys  for different BIOS options as I start the computer
If I hold down an F key when I hit the start button the computer emediately shuts off
How can I get to the BIOS to reset or roll back the update?  What next?

The box is on the way...
In addition the the methods outlined in the article The Hp tech  had me try to start tapping the F 10 key.
    Nothing worked...
Hp is sending me a box to return the computer to a repair facility.
Thank you for your  timely assistance,
