Leopard Dock Bug

I have a fully patched install of leopard. After a running a while, and seemingly at random, display bugs start cropping up in the dock. The Dock suddenly becomes super-reflective, with zero or almost zero transparency, and icons disappear when i hover the cursor over them. Not a big issue, but it really irks me.
Also, whenever I boot up Leopard, my stacks (which i choose to display as folders) display the wrong icons, displaying a previous icon I chose instead. Choosing display as stack and then display as folder again resolves this, but once again it's something i'd rather not do if i don't have to.
Any help with these oddities would be greatly appreciated

not sure what you mean by that. A similar sounding bug was introduced by 10.5.2 on prior created stacks. Try recreating your stacks from scratch. newly created stacks should retain their icons on restarts.

iTunes 11 is a bag of hurt in Snow Leopard (multiple bugs) - Fixes? Workarounds?
I had been using iTunes 11.0.2 in Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on early 2011 Mac Book Pro. When I went to iTunes store on August 1, it would no longer display the iTunes store, it shows just a blank white screen. Upgrading to the current iTunes 11.0.4 does not help, I still get white screens when I try to go to the iTunes store. If I run iTunes 11.0.2 on a different Lion machine it displays the store just fine.
Before this crippling issue began, I was having two other problems with iTunes 11.
    1) When I was able and did view app descriptions in the iTunes store, I would try to click on the links for reviews, or related apps, etc, and none of the links worked. This problems also does not occur in Lion.
    2) Also, I really do not like the new app sync buttons, "Remove", "Will Remove", "Update", "Will Update". Sometimes iTunes becomes confused on the state of an app, especially when I sync two devices to have the same apps on each. Also, when I have many apps, its a pain to find and click all the "Update" buttons to make them say "Will Update" as I have to read the buttons closely. There should at least be a way to sort the apps by status so I can see all the ones that say "Update" together.
I am on Snow Leopard because I have some Mac apps that still require Rosetta and I do not wish to upgrade. However, it seems that even though Apple says iTunes is compatible with Snow Leopard, they are doing a poor job of testing it in Snow Leopard.
Anyone else seeing these issues with iTunes 11 in Snow Leopard? Any Fixes? Or Workarounds?

You are simply not understanding how app updating works in iTunes 11. Apple has changed it up a bit. When viewing your apps in iTunes, along the top, directly under the LED display click the "updates" tab. This will show you all the apps that have available updates. Then click the "update" button in the lower right of the screen.

This is generally a network issue. As a first trouble shooting step, restart your computer. If that does not work power cycling the internet modem will generally clear up the problem.

  • Leopard dock isn't 3-D

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard on my MacBook (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), and installed the 10.5.1 update. The dock isn't 3-D - it's flat, just like the Tiger dock was. It appears to have all the other Leopard Dock characteristics, it's just . . . flat.
Any idea what might be going on? I looked in the CoreServices folder, and it shows that Dock.app is version 1.6.
I don't really have any preference as to which dock I use. I'm wondering if this indicates there's a problem that's going to become a major issue at some point in the future.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dick

Open up the terminal and type in this command and hit enter:
defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean NO
    Then type and hit enter:
    killall Dock
In a second or so the dock should reappear in 3d.

  • Cleardock BACKGROUND BEHIND LEOPARD DOCK! I NEED HELP!!

Omg, I just installed Leopard and I totally thought that there wouldnt be a problem removing cleardock after installation. But right now, theres the cleardock background behind the new Leopard dock and I CANT REMOVE IT! I've removed application enhancer and the cleardock app so many times and ITS Still there.
    Please help!!

    Hi slend0r
Not sure I know the answer, but some questions:
Can you say what the background looks like? Sure it's not the reflective shelf that's a part of the Leopard Dock?
And have you tried restarting after removing the enhancer and cleardock?
And you say that you've removed them several times. Do they reappear or refuse to be removed?

  • Dock bugs in Leopard 10.5.2

I frequently connect my Macbook to my 32" TV while it's in the living room. More often than not, this is what happens once the screen res changes from 1280x800 to 1280x768 to accommodate the TV's native resolution.

    http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r88/negatize/Picture1-3.png
Not a big deal, because it goes away once you activate spaces or do anything that hides the dock (full screen mode, etc)
Just wanted to share in case Apple doesn't know of this yet.

I suggest you send Apple feedback via Apple's official feedback page. You can find it by going to http://www.apple.com and looking in the contact section.

  • 10.5.1 doesn't fix 802.1X WEP os-logon and Go To Folder in finder dock Bug

    Hi,
I still have a bug when opening folder/directory view from the finder dock icon. it instantly locks the finder and i have to kill it to get it function again. This bug doesnt' work when a finder window is open.. (as referred to be me in http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5768515#5768515)
There is still also a bug when i was using 802.1X WEP encryption at college earlier today. when booting leopard it searches for new or known wireless networks and gives me a password dialog. Since I authenticate against a LDAP server (U/P settings stored in the 802.1X tab) ) and also have a certificate, this dialog box is wrong. If i enter my password it also doesn't work!
When canceling the dialog box and going to the wireless menu in the top right screen and selecting my access point, i get connected right away!!
Come on apple, you can do better then that!
Also, please remove or upgrade the "address book" in the terminal application, its still a shame...
    Regards,
    Rick

In my searching beforehand, there were some rare problems in Finder with fonts in the sidebar causing problems. I figured it couldn't hurt. If I don't get any kind of solution here, I'm just going to wipe the computer (data backed up, of course), since I've accumulated quite a few odd things the past 18 months. Thanks anyway.
edit: I just realized what you meant about the /Library/Fonts folder. I did the ~ one too, but no dice.

  • Who can solve Leopards  biggest bug?

All these topics are connected the same bug in Leopard mail. Password changes to apop.
" Mail keeps asking for password
    Mail keeps asking pop3 password
Apple did not fixed their biggest bug in Leopamailsettings can´t be saved.
Mail changes setting to from password to "APOP
bugg:mail.app converting pop mail settings to apop from password won't save
    Mail and lost passwords
Can't receive Mail - authentication setting keeps shifting...
    Does Mail have Alzheimers"
    Can't get Mail working properly
    Mail Changing Authentication Spontaneously
Mail-POP accounts go offline-can not get back online - error on port 110
    password for mail
Mail settings changes by itself "
I have been dealing with the matter since december. The problem also has been seen in Verizon and Daemon pop accounts.
In the there have been many suggsestions to solutions.
But so far nobody has been able to find a solution to why the mail settings changes from passwords to Apop and you are prompted for a apop password.
Apple has not fixed this bug and so far none here.
Is there somebody outhere who is able to fix that bug that Apple failed to fix?

Ummm...the best thing to do is not setup your Keychain password to be accepted once. When asked to accept your keychain, use the Always button.
Applications -> Utilities -> Keychain Access application has the option to repair the keychain from its menu. Use that to repair your Mail keychain.
If you are using any cache cleaning applications quit using them. They conflict with many an application and can cause damaged cache files, which among them are Mail's own:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1322708&tstart=10
Repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility, and not some third party utility.
If you aren't having any mail issues, don't create them by trying anything rash.
If your system is functional, back it up before doing anything else, and after saving any important files, so that if you add something to your system and it becomes malfunctioning, you can restore your backup. See my FAQ* on backing up:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
For people having issues that aren't resolved here, please start a new topic thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223&start=0
You'll get more focussed attention, and won't be confusing the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.

  • Crash while trying to export on Leopard (New bug)

Note that this bug seems to be slightly different then the bug referenced in the post "Aperture 1.5.6 Crashing with Leopard". In my case, just selecting "Export > Export Version" from either the "File" menu or the contextual menu causes Aperture to crash. The Export dialog never gets displayed. The stack crawl is also slightly different then the one shown in the above mentioned post.
This is the first time I've used Aperture since installing Leopard a few weeks ago. My Leopard installing was an "Archive and Install" one, and I've since picked up the 10.5.1 update. I've run "Repair Permissions" as well as deleted my old Aperture preferences from ~/Library, but the crash persists. A crash report has been submitted as well.
As it stands, I cannot export any photos at all from within Aperture. This goes for both managed photos as well as referenced photos. Any help would be appreciated.

    (End Crash Log)

I have the exact same problem as you describe above, and from the beginning i also think it's a bug cause by leopard update, but I was wrong, the solution is both simple and crazy, you just need to remove any 3rd party "color picker" plug-in that was not compatible with Leopard from ~/Library/ColorPickers, then you are set to go, mine was the "Tangerine" plug-in that i was forget to put in trash after I uninstall the main program. After I remove it, no crash on exporting to version or to mail, hoooolaaa.
I'm both frustrating and sad when I cannot export my image from Aperture, and I'm not sure what the connection between color picker and Aperture "export" feature, but it's finally solve my problem, this of course with the help of this post. Cheer, and by the way, I have upgraded to Aperture 2.0, woo lala, what a great software update Apple had provide after such a long wait.

  • Leopard Dock - Windows Appear "Under" By Default

Hi there, hopefully this is a quick fix.
I have a new Leopard installation. Brand new fresh out of the box on a new Macbook Pro. I have my Dock on the left side of the screen. It's set to the default size, not very full at all.
However, every new window I open up and every time I load an application, the top left part of this new or application is aligned with the top left of the screen (ie under the Apple menu). Of course, my dock is on the left, so these windows default to opening up "under" the DOck. I have to drag them to the right to get them out from "under" the dock.
I don't remember this being default behavior in Tiger. How can I save myself all this needless dragging to save the left part of all my windows from being buried under my dock icons?
Acutally I can confirm this being not default behavior in Tiger. I downloaded a new disk image, opened it up in Tiger, and it's appeared in a reasonable place near the middle of my desktop. Same disk image on Leopard, and it appeared in the upper left corner of the desktop, with the red "Close" bullet positioned under the Apple menu, and thus, buried under my Dock.

Have you tried changing the location to either the bottom or right, opening window or two, then changing back?
I'd try first from the Apple menu, then System Preferences.
If still no go, I'd trash the preferences file (well, move it to the desktop, & restart Finder. If no help, move back so you don't have to re-set all the others). If you don't know, it's <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Worth a shot!

  • I would like to revert back to Leopard Dock in Mavericks. Is it possible?

Hi, I started this topic on non-developers forum (I'm an ordinary user, not a developer) but as it turned out I should expect little help from them therefore I decided to take chances here. So, I would like VERY MUCH to have Leopard's Dock though I'm on Mavericks. I know that since Leopard's Dock was a PPC app it can't be extracted from Leopard's combo update and simply placed in CoreServices folder. I've browsed Internet but to no avail and I don't want to install too much third-party software that won't find use in my environment. The only solution could be to ask whether it's possible to have the means to make that app that would be working on Mavericks? If yes, then how to accomplish it, I'm catching on quickly, so I think I could afford this task, if I get some advices.
Or maybe I should request here if someone agrees to write such version of the app, I'm sure many other users would gladly have this Dock, because since ML (or even Lion) Dock wasn't much favorably acclaimed (especially its active apps indicators are designed poorly).
Would be glad to hear from you,
    I.S.

Had you looked into existing Dock Modifiers for Mavericks, as in the past, some persons
did create and distribute this kind of product, often for free or little expense?
A revisit to the generalized topic may be seen in this results URL from a search on theme:
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=dock+modification+mavericks
Hopefully you can make use of some of these existing ideas and/or products, but do be
wary of some that may not be what they pretend to be; least you get adware or ??? stuff.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IPad 2 iOS7 hardware keyboard dock bug

When I connect the old original hardware keyboard that acts as a dock also, Item model number: MC533LL/B, some buttons dont work, like bringing up the keyboard hotkey. When  disconnect it the regular onscreen keyboard isnt comming up until I restart the device. Malfunctioning of the certain keys does not desturb me, but the onscreen keyboard not apearing is a problem. It worked perfectly in 6.1.3... I dont wish to downgrade, because i like the speed of the new system and the task menagement, but i dont like the design, the old one gave me a warm friendly feeling, so it is a tough choice.
It would be a nice thing if apple would look into it. I guess the fix is one liner...

It works... it was just some silly bug... maybe the comnector moved... Sorry for the false alarm.

  • Getting Tiger functionality back in the Leopard Dock

Is there any way to get back some of the functionality that Tiger's Dock offered in Leopard? Specifically I want to be able to right click and get a list of folders within folders, so I can access those applications without having to open Finder windows.
To explain: in my Applications folder, I have subfolders to organise apps by type. I kept the Applications folder in the Dock. In Tiger, I would right click on this, and navigate to subfolders (eg "Media apps") and move the mouse across to the specific app, let go, and it would open.
With Leopard I can only get to the subfolder, then I have to open it as a Finder window, then click on my app. I know it seems a minor thing, but it annoys me to have to keep opening windows all the time. The only workaround I can see is to have every Applications subfolder in the Dock, but I don't want to do this because my Dock is already crammed full of stuff.
I hope this makes sense and I hope there is a solution.

At this time, Leopard just dropped that feature, maybe a future release will bring it back. I used to use the same method to organize regulary used servers.
The only thing I can think of, is use an alternative solution like DragThing (http://www.dragthing.com/)
Do you know you can launch any application by opening Spotlight menu (Command-Space or Control-Space) and type application name ? This is even quicker than using submenus.

  • Audio Midi Setup, multichannel speakers, Snow Leopard & possible bug

I scoured this forum as well as the usual places across the net and haven't seen any mention of this issue, thought I'd post it here and see if anyone else has had this issue. I'm having a problem with a fresh install of 10.6.2 that I detailed in a bug report to Apple. Here's what I sent them:
"I have a firewire audio interface I use successfully with Logic Pro/Quicktime Pro 7/Finder in a multichannel (5.1) configuration for scoring and post, which works fine in 10.5.8. I can play multichannel (interleaved) 5.1 files bounced out of Logic Pro in Quicktime Pro and from within the Finder using QuickLook, and all channels play out of the speakers (which is of course configured properly in both Audio Midi Setup and Logic Pro).
In the latest version of Snow Leopard however, even though multichannel audio works fine in Logic Pro (probably because it has its own multichannel speaker config in Logic's audio preferences), this same hardware setup does not work outside of Logic. Multichannel audio files only play out of the left & right channels (C/LFE/Ls/Rs are summed). I believe the problem is Audio Midi Setup. Even though I enable the correct stream and choose the correct speakers from with "speaker configuration," and even though the test tone buttons work over the appropriate speakers in that window, after I hit "apply," when playing multichannel audio files in QT7 or via Quicklook in the Finder, the problem persists (summing all channels to L & R speakers).
Furthermore, when I click "Done" in the speaker config window and quit Audio Midi Setup and re-open it, the speaker configuration window reveals that my multichannel setup has reverted to Audio Midi Setup's intial state: a 2 channel (stereo) setup. I've done this at least ten times, as well as having deleted the AMS prefs and launched the utility in 32-bit mode with no success."
Has anyone else with a multi-speaker setup had any problems with AMS initializing their speaker configuration, and just plain not working?

I don't know if this will help you, but I once had a problem with Audio Midi Setup forgetting its settings - I found that the settings were only securely stored if I made the changes while logged on as an administrator.

  • Leopard Dock Issue

I attempted a download via Apple's website to download some cool widgets. One of them was a guide/reports on how to alter settings on Leopard. Foolishly, I attempted to change to dock from the reflective shelf, to a hideous rectangular white outline. Is there any way that i can get my shelf back? The new one reminds me of Tiger, and I cannot stand it. Thanks for your time....

Just a hint: If you want your mac-experience to be as smooth as possible, stay clear of system-enhancer -software and avoid tweaking the system beyond normal options, that you find in system preferences... Some tweaks may be cool, but as soon as Apple releases updates to MacOS X, there is a chance for confusion and troubles. It is the same with all computers and operating systems: if you want to tweak and adjust, be prepared to do it constantly and don't count wasted hours doing that.
My advice is to install Leopard again from the install-disks, that were shipped with your iMac. But some other system-tweaker could propose a different and maybe easier solutions.

  • Leopard Dock

Ok I have just a quick question. I was at Best Buy today and noticed on there Imac display they had a different dock on leopard than there other Imac and the Macbooks. The dock they had on display was something like a black mirror compared to the one that I have on my macbook. My question is what is that and where can I get it.
    Thanks

Hi Everyone ... I am quite new to MAC and would love to change my dock to a better looking one. I have looked and found one on leoparddocks.com and read & written down the download instructions. However, I am a little nervous, as I don't want to mess up big time, when I get to the bit in the resources folder where it says move those original files to the trash & replace with the downloaded ones, there seems to be more files in the one that I am moving to the trash than there are in the new download? Would my current dock icons need to be re-applied to my new downloaded dock and is that why the old folder contains more items? Sorry if I'm not making myself clear enough here, but anyone who could give me a step by step idiots guide :-/ from the bit where I would need to backup my files, would be appreciated.
    Thank you x
