Leopard doesn't detect ipod touch

okay so i just updated to leopard on my mac mini today. i was satisfied with the upgrade and its very nice still. but than the bad part came. i plugged in my ipod touch to buy the january upgrade for that to. because I have just been updating it since than. Well i plugged in the ipod and it showed that it was charging... but thats it. does not open itunes. does not show up under my devices. does not even say on the ipod that i can disconnect or connect. It just charges. It is fully charged and still nothing... even when i disconnect the ipod, it does not say the little message saying (you hav disconnected the device improperly or something).
i was told that this is probably because i didn't update my ipod to the newest update. Would that be the case? or am i able to do something else to get it to detect on my computer.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
OK, the absence of the touch's icon in Finder when the touch is connected to your Mac mini is normal because disk mode is not currently supported on the touch. The behavior you described in your initial posting here is to be expected.
However, the touch should display in iTunes.
Since the touch charges when connected, I think we can rule out the possibility that either the USB cable, touch's Dock connector, or Mac mini's USB port is defective (if any of those parts were defective, then your touch should not display that it is charged or charging).
Your postings indicate that you've got the latest version of iTunes.
Have you tried connecting your touch to another Mac that has the latest version of iTunes installed?
Do you live near an Apple Store where you could bring your touch and show the problem to a staff member at the Genius Bar?

  • ITunes all of a sudden doesn't detect iPod Touch 4th Gen

    Hello,
I've been using my iPod with iTunes syncing for about 2 years now. However, just within the last 2-3 weeks, iTunes will not detect my iPod.
I have done everything support says to, including re-starting the mobile device, uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, etc.
I ran the diagnostics, and get the following:
I have attempted to "start" the AMD, but it doesn't seem to want to.
No clue what happened. I haven't changed anything, just one day it starts not working.
Any help would be appriciated. I'd love to get my music on my ipod.

How do I run the diagnostics?

The iPod touch is completely new, no missing contacts etc. It works on other macs as well. Only my iMac doesn't see the iPod Touch. Maybe I can repost this problem in The IMAC section in stead of the iPod Touch, since I think its a iMac problem from now on...

Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod.  For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3

    2. if the iPod Touch is just not showing up, Go to the Black Apple in the top left hand corner, Select About this Mac, then Click on More Info, the Click on System Report, Under Hardware go to USB is the iPod showing up there in the USB device Tree?
If yes to 1., this is not possible, download Third Party Application and Procede from there
If the device is not showing up in 2. , are there any other items connected to the Computer via USB, if yes, you have a bad cable or bad pin on the ipod touch, if not connect something else to the USB and see if it shows up in 2.
If you do not have any other things connected to the computer via USB and can not connect anything else to a USB try Removing everything from the ports of the computer, Quit any applications, then Shut Down the Computer
When the Computer is shut down
Reset SMC  Hold "Control+Option+Shift ( on the left hand side of the computer) and the Power Key all at the same time, for about 10 seconds, if you do this correctly then the computer will NOT Turn On
Then Locate Command+Option+P+R (the last two are letter keys), You will need to press and hold these buttons after Powering on the Computer and hearing the Startup Chime, if you do this correctly the Computer will go Black, White, and the make the Chime again
If this does not solve the Issue and the Device is still not showing up in 2. then you have a hardware problem on the computer and need to get your USB ports replaced

  • ITunes not detecting iPod Touch

So I just got the 32GB iPod Touch today. 2nd Gen of course.
Already had iTunes in my PC before this. So as how it should go, I plugged the iTouch in, it started to sync my music. Okay so that was normal. Then it asked to update it's firmware to 2.2. And I said yes.
After updating it asked to install, but my songs were still syncing with the iTouch. I said yes to install the updates anyway. It started installing and suddenly my iTunes just crashed, saying some error and it couldn't install the latest firmware. Ever since then iTunes won't/can't detect my iTouch anymore but Windows can.
The driver installed is 'Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver', is that the right one? That's about as far as it goes now. And when I turn on the iTouch it just shows that picture of the USB and an arrow to connect to iTunes.
Annoying enough, I've tried every single solution I could find on this forum. Even with the usbaapl.sys copy paste into inf folder, still doesn't work. Countless times reinstalling iTunes still doesn't work, reset the iTouch, still no hope. So if someone would please? I understand I'm not the only one going through this. I'm on a 64bit Vista, and YES I have iTunes 64bit version installed. I'm thinking if I should go to the Apple Shop to ask for help but I doubt they'd be of any service/knowledge of this. Really really frustrating. Please help, someone!?

    Hello,
Why not? Apple staff their retail stores with 'Geniuses' for exactly this reason - all part of the Apple experience. You can reserve a booking online first:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
Alternatively have you tried working through some of the kbase articles. I would suggest that you totally remove all Apple software components and then re-install:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Given that your issue followed a firmware update you may well need to Restore the iPod too:

Let us know how you get on.

  • ITunes 8: cannot detect iPod Touch

    Hi,
Has anyone else had trouble getting iTunes to detect their iPod Touch since upgrading? My sync worked fine previously, but having upgraded to 8.0 this morning iTunes simply refuses to 'see' my iPod Touch. Windows XP still detects it (admittedly, now as a 'Digital Stills Camera'), but nothing from iTunes at all.
Has the Windows driver been changed in some way too? Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

I finally got everything to work. I followed some instructions on another thread. I uninstalled 8.0 and all of it files then reinstalled 7.7. I followed his instructions to the letter. 7.7 was working fine. I then decided to try and update to 8.0. and voila...it has been working fine. No conflict with my cd or dvd and it recognizes my ipod. I am posting the other information below. Sorry I can't just link...I don't know how.
    Good Luck

Hello, and welcome to the forums. For future reference, I'd recommend creating your own post so that way you can get accurate information quickly. If you'd prefer to downgrade iTunes rather than work out the issues with iTunes 8, I can offer you some insight. If you'd like to try to work out the issue with iTunes 8, I'd suggest creating a new thread with the results of your iTunes Network Diagnostics so we can take a look at what's going on.
To obtain your network diagnostics, click your Help menu and choose Run Diagnostics.
To downgrade iTunes, this is my (personal) recommended method. I upgraded 7.something to 8 and then went back to 7.7 on my Windows XP machine. (No real reason, other than to see if it could be done).
    1. Remove all iTunes-related Software
Go to your Control Panel and open Add/Remove Programs
    Remove the following:
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
-iPod for Windows (it's OK if this doesn't exist)
    -iTunes
    -QuickTime
    2. Make sure they're completely removed
Go to My Computer > C: > Program Files
    Delete these folders:
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
    -iPod
    -iTunes
    -QuickTime
If any or all of these folders don't exist, it's a good thing.
    3. Delete supporting documents
    Open up My Computer
Go to your Tools menu at the top and select Folder Options
Choose the round option button to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and then click Apply, then OK
Go to C: > Documents and Settings > your username > Application Data
Delete the folder called "Apple Computer"
Go to C: > Documents and Settings > your username > Local Settings > Application Data
Delete the folders called "Apple" and "Apple Computer"
    4. Prepare your library data files
Go to your My Music folder and open up the iTunes folder inside it
Move the following files to your desktop:
    -iTunes Library.itl
    -iTunes Music Library.xml
    -iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    -iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    5. Restart your computer
    6. Download & install iTunes 7.7
    http://www.brothersoft.com/itunes-116719.html
    -Click the "Download" button
-Click the "Click to Download" link (next to a server number)
    7. Open up iTunes. It will walk you through the setup/configuration process. Make sure that you UNcheck the options to add media (MP3, WMA, AAC) files. Your library should be empty. Click your File menu and choose Import. Select the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" that was placed on your desktop in Step 4. This should put your library and playlists back together for you.
I did not have to re-authorize my computer for my iTunes store purchases, however, if prompted to, you can click your Store menu at the top of the window and choose "Authorize Computer." Once completed successfully, you can delete the iTunes library data files that were placed on the desktop, as they are no longer needed or in use.
    Hope this is helpful
