Leopard DVD keeps ejecting

I am currently running on a Power Mac G4 with Panther installed. I am trying to install Leopard on there only every time I put the disk in it is not recognised by the Mac and a couple of seconds later the drive ejects. I am using a Pioneer 106D. I have heard that flashing works however I cannot find the kernal and the general files. Please help as I have been trying for days.
Many thanks,
Jordan

First, does your Mac meet the *Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements*
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950 ?
Second, does you Mac have a DVD reading disc drive?
Third, is the DVD you are using a black retail installer (correct) or a gray installer or upgrade installer from another model Mac (can't use)?

  • Snow leopard installation dvd keeps ejecting on Mac Mini

    HI,
    I have a Mac Mini, 1.83ghz, intel core duo, 2gb 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM running OS Leopard 10.5.8.
Im trying to install snow leopard from the dvd onto the mac and it keeps ejecting it.
It wont even mount on the desktop, can anyone help?
Ive restarted holding the 'c' key but it still ejects the dvd. The dvd doesnt look damaged or scratched either and have disconnected all my peripherals as well.
    Cheers Pete

    Pete,
This may sound so simple but it may be the problem.  Unplug your USB keyboard and just plug in your mouse.  Then insert the DVD.  If it stays in, you have a sticky key on the keyboard.  Cleaning your keyboard may be all that it takes.
Otherwise, your optical drive is not recognizing the platter and you have more serious issues.  Rule out the easy and obvious first.

  • Dvd keeps ejecting but plays cd's fine?

    Hi,
My DVD's keep ejecting but i can play CD's?
    any ideas!
    Harry

A lot depends on the quality of the disk, and if the disk or the drive is dirty.  See my FAQ*.

  • Dvd keeps ejecting during multiplexing and burning in idvd

Ok, I realize a lot of other people have had this problem and somehow managed to resolve it. I have done a lot of reading and experimenting but so far NOTHING has worked. So, to recount everything that I have tried and all the details to this problem:
First of all, I would like to mention that I have successfully burned a number of DVDs in idvd in the past. Then suddenly it just stopped working.
I have run a verify/ repair disk permissions. I have deleted all the idvd files off my computer, the .plist and preferences file, restarted, and reinstalled iDVD TWICE with a custom install. I have 500 gb of free space on my boot drive. I used a cleaning disc on my SuperDrive, and my regular DVD player. I switched to a better brand of blank dvd. I am now using Sony DVD-r, 4.7 gb discs although memorex DVD+r always worked just fine before. The project I am burning fits on the disc. I am not using chapters. I tried turning on the tv safe area and made sure everything was inside it, but still the same problem. I tried booting up in safe-mode then restarting. Still, same issue. I am burning at 2x speed, using professional quality setting. The project preview works just fine. It goes through the whole idvd process just fine, until the burning and multiplexing. After burning about 10 minutes of the project, the disc ejects suddenly. Idvd says "done" but then at the bottom it says "about one minute left" and the little burning wheel symbol is still spinning. The disc plays fine in my DVD player till about ten minutes in, then freezes and eventually goes back to the main menu. I can see on the disc that it is only partially burned.
Oh, and I have also tried saving to a disc image and burning with toast and disc utility. Once, this actually did work with toast and resulted in a playable DVD. The weird part was that I still got the error sense key message in toast and thought I had made another coaster, but when I tested the DVD it worked fine in my regular dvd player only (it was not readable in my xbox or ps2). Since that one fluke, however, it hasn't been successful. Disk utility did not work for burning the disc image. I am absolutely at a loss here...somebody PLEASE help.

I believe I have finally fixed the problem but I am going to post what I went through just in case someone else ever runs into these same issues, maybe I can save them some time. I went through so much troubleshooting and each problem solved seemed to result in new problems, so, let me recap.
First, computer was working fine. Burned a DVD, it worked. Then a few days later, tried to burn another DVD. It didn't work. I tried different brands of discs, different types of discs, (-r and +r) sometimes there was a partial burn, sometimes no luck at all and an unusable, unplayable disc. The disc would eject early during the burning phase, giving me simultaneous contradictory messages that it was both "done" and had " about one minute left".
I tried running a verify/ repair disk permissions. Everything came out fine, but still no burned DVDs. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling idvd. I tried a cleaning disc. Still no go. Sometimes idvd would crash or freeze on me or give me error messages. Result varied depending on what i tried, but were never good.
Then I bought an external drive and tried saving my DVD project as a disc image and burning with toast as many people have suggested. This worked! So, I concluded that my SuperDrive was faulty but I'm not going to bother getting it replaced right now because the external works just fine. I thought my problem was finally solved, but then...
I noticed that upon restarting, my computer would display a white-gray screen as is normal, with the familiar apple symbol, but now a new addition: a very annoying loading bar that took 5-10 minutes to load. Unacceptable!!! Also, I noticed shortly after that iTunes did not work. It wouldn't even open, but crashed due to an error and asked if it could send a report. I tried deleting and uninstalling iTunes but that didn't work.
I ran another verify disc permissions with disc utility, and I got a very bad error message. It said there were errors on the drive and it could not be repaired and it said I needed to start up from the Mac OS X install disc and use disc utility to repair the volume. Problem with that...my install disc says it can't install on this computer. I soon learned from one (finally) helpful apple support guy that the reason for this was that I am running snow leopard 10.6.8 and the disc that came with my computer was for 10.5.2 or something.
On a side note: I had called apple support before and specifically asked if the reason the disc didn't work was because it was for a different version and the guy said he had no idea if that was the reason or not. Jerk. CLEARLY, that was the reason and my ignorant butt didn't know any better and he wanted me to pay 19.99 just to answer that question for me.
So, I went to the apple store and purchased snow leopard. It was delivered today, I started my computer from the new snow leopard disc and repaired my drive. Restarted. A bit slow restarting but no more loading bar and not as bad as before...iTunes still didn't work but I completely uninstalled a reinstalled it again and this time it seems to be working fine. Idvd is working, I saved another movie to disc might. And am assuming it will still burn fine with toast in the external drive.
During my arduous troubleshooting I discovered that I most probably have the seagate 1 tb hard drive that was recalled by apple due to its tendency to fail...whether this has been the root of my computer's troubles from the start, I still don't know for sure. But, everything seems to be functioning correctly now at least and since my computer has lasted this long without hard drive failures, maybe it will be ok. It's possible that I somehow caused the errors while I was fiddling around on the computer trying to fix idvd and iTunes. Hope this is helpful to somebody, someday. I did gain a lot of advice from various forums on the web and found many people having one or more of the issues I was running into, so I thought I should record my process here for others as well.

  • IMac Applications DVD Keeps Ejecting

Giving my old iMac to Wifey, and after erasing the disc & re-installing 10.6.2, I am trying to put in the Applications Install DVD, and the computer keeps spitting it out and it does not show up on the desktop.
Anyone else have this problem and why won't it open up on the desktop & why is it spitting it out?
Thanks in advance for any help.

First, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version. Then, see "The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected" > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Blank DVD keeps ejecting?

    Hello someone,
I am trying to load a blank DVD and it keeps getting spit back out at me after what sounds like the machine considering the DVD.
I have tried just unwrapped Maxll up to 4x DVD-R as well as Maxell up to 4x DVD-RW. With both, the machine offers the same response.
Any ideas of what could be wrong with user or machine under these circumstances?
Also, I need to store a 12 GB imovie folder onto seperate DVDs. I will need to be able to access this info and bring it back to an external FW drive. (Need to format the FW drives before I can store the folder there)
Any hints on breaking apart a large folder like that when storing onto DVD-RW or DVD-R.
    Thanks for the suggestions,
    Alex

It should be ok with -rw discs
    things to look for are:
finger prints: whos got sticky fingers, ive been to customers houses and they've had jam on them then asked why they wont work
rough edges on disc or center hole, if this is rough its cant always seat properly and so may eject: i have got into the habit of sticking my finger in the center hole and spinning it round with my centre finger, also kinda relaxing too!
and obviously sctaches, like the jam stains! if its not a clear disk for any of these reasons it will spit it out, like a human eating mouldy food, the machines the same (but dont stick your pizza in there lol).
also make sure it hasnt been used before, if its been formatted in another machine, this can block it out.
if the worst is worst, get the laser cheked out, these things have 2, 1 for reading and 1 for burning so although it may read a disk it might not burn, and if the reader head has gone it wont do either becuase it needs to read it befor it can burn it.
    good luck

  • OSX Install DVD keeps ejecting

    Hello,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro purchased in June 2007. I am trying to format and reinstall all software and OS from the backup DVDs provided.
When I put the DVD in the drive, it spins for about 15 seconds and then ejects. I've tested multiple CDs and DVDs, and all of them work. It's only the Apple DVDs that get spit out (both Install Disc 1 and Install Disc 2). I have done everything recommended on the support pages including ensuring the latest firmware, but still nothing.
I've gone through all the steps including inserting the DVD at startup, but no luck. What is the fix for this?
    Thanks,
    SJ

I did call them actually. They said to force feed the DVD, do a shut down and restart while holding down the "C" key. I'm doing that now. But still, I want to know WHY this happening!!! The rep could not answer this question and they are saying they have not heard of this situation before.

  • Movie DVDs keep ejecting

    Hey All
For some reason store bought DVD's will not mount on the desktop or even remain closed in the loading tray.
They just constantly eject over and over again.
Audio and Data CD's still work and mount fine.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Try deleting the file: Macintosh HD > Users > <yourusername> > Library > Preferences > com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist.
Does DVD Player load okay on it's own with no DVD present?

  • DVDs keep ejecting and won't play

When I try to insert some dvds, but not all of them, they just pop back out and will not play in the dvd player on my 2008 Macbook Pro. How can I fix this? Is this a dvd problem or a computer problem??? I am baffled and would really love to fix this ASAP!

    Hi Linky
Welcome to apple discussions. All of our macs are Power Macs. I sometimes use an apple G4 laptop which belongs to my wife (or rather school site).
Suggestion: you may also wish to post this same question to a category specific apple forum that addresses hardware and / or firmware issues for your specific mac model (namely Mac Book Pro Forum => Optical Drives and your MacBook Pro.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1298&start=0
Experience has shown me that what works fine for one may have little to no effect for the other. This holds true not only for desktops models vs. laptops but also for varied types of media. Date of manufacture, firmware + software + the date your mac actually rolled off the assembly line also play a significant role for your own apple computer.
These same dvds play fine on my daughters ibook so there is not a problem with the disc itself
The above statement is true but nevertheless I wouldn't rule out media compatibility issues just yet.
Lastly, try running apple's software updater if you haven't yet done so. Remember to repair permissions before and after doing so.

  • Keeps Ejecting PC Disk & Apps Sometimes Cover Desktop on Launchpad

Hi. I'm loving OS X Lion and I like the gesture to bring up Launchpad and I can't wait for all apps to have fullscreen abilities so you could just swipe between apps. I still believe the gestures that Lion replaced specifically the reverse scrolling and on finger swipe is only intuitive if you're actually using a multitouch screen like maybe an angel adjustable multitouch iMac or multitouch Cinema Display which hopefully will be come out in the near future (with option to use the usual keyboard, mouse, trackpad) but I'm kept it on default, maybe it'll grow on me and may actually be more intuitive even for the desktop. I also can't wait for all apps to use Versions. I do hope they change their theme, the colors are too subdued. It's a subdued Aqua. Launchpad's metallic icon is good. I think Apple should change the theme to "subdued Aqua" to anodized aluminum to give icons and UI elements more distinction. Sometimes the color is too subdued, you think it's been click or is not available.
After upgrading to Lion though, sometimes the apps in Launchpad would cover the Desktop on top. I'm not sure if it's because my apps is always maximized (not really in fullscreen mode) or it's a glitch or a bug. If it's not a glitch, what's the solution for this?
Also, I'm not sure if it's Windows on Boot Camp or Lion but my PC DVD keeps ejecting itself which it hadn't done before. Any solution for this as well?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Using osx snow leopard with boot camp, optical drive keeps ejecting windows 7 disc

Upgraded my late 2008 macbook pro from leopard to snow leopard.  Added the max 4GB of RAM and replaced the working 250GB hard drive with a new 1TB hard drive.  Rebooted with time machine from external hard drive.  Now tried setting up Bootcamp to add a Windows 7 partition, but the optical drive keeps ejecting the Windows 7 disc after it spins for a few moments.  The optical drive will read other discs, just not the Windows 7 disc.  How do I fix this problem?

you need to install the new bootcamp drivers from windows. boot into windows, insert the snow leopard DVD, open it and follow the instructions.

  • Mac Book / 10.5.2 ~ Keeps ejecting CD-R but DVD's seem okay.

    Hello there,
My apologizes, I know that there are different threads throughout several discussions on this or something that may seem very similar but regrettable I have not been able to find a solution.
I have a first generation Black MacBook running 10.5.2, I had a problem with my drive and in November Apple replaced it under apple care. Currently I have a :
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857:
    Firmware Revision: HBEA
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media:
    Type: CD-R
    Blank: Yes
    Erasable: No
    Overwritable: Yes
    Appendable: Yes
    Write Speeds: 8x, 24x
The problem has a few different elements:
    1. When I insert a CD-R disc that I know works (tried on a windows box), I get the standard Finder Message saying "You Inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore." I click Eject and try again with the same result each time.
    2. When i try to record my own CD-r from a new spool it looks like it will burn but I get an error saying "... calibration problem . . ." and the disk fails.
I have tried to reset my PRAM no luck
I have tried to hold my MacBook upside down no Luck
i have re-installed 10.5.2 combined update. no luck
Checked the disk and permission . no luck.
If you are able to offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for you help and any reply you may offer.

Did this happen right after you got it back from Apple?
No it did not had burned over 50 disks before it began.. Started within the last 2 weeks. Cannot recall any particular change I made to the machine to prompt or trigger this.
If so, you should of sent it back then.
How long did you hold it upside down? The entire sequence.. Stated upside down. Put the disk in.. waited till i saw the Dialogue Box then turned it over in total about 10-15 Seconds.
When you say tried to reset pram, did you successfully do this? I believe so. .The machine restarted and beeped then went over the inital start up chime again. So i bleive it was successful
Did this start after you installed Leopard? I have only been using Leopard since I got the replacement drive. I thought 10.5.2 could have triggered it but no confirmation.
What brand of disk are you using?
Several including (imation, datawrite, princo) I know you will likely comment on the names of the disks. but i do not believe it to be the disks as even with the quality ones it is the same problem and when i place a burned disk in the drive it still thinks it is blank.
    Thanks again for the help.

Try zapping PRAM. Hold down the cndopt+RP keys on restart (with the Leopard disk in), and release them after 3 "bongs". Then, immediately hold down the C key.

I have the same issue wherein my external usb superdrive is ejecting the DVDs.
When I had the Snow Leopard, I was able to copy the DVDs into my hard drive, or even just watch DVD films.  Since I have the Mountain Lion, the DVD films which I used to be able to watch were not able to be read anymore ... it ejects them.
I did not notice it when I upgraded the Mountain Lion, because I did not watch any new DVDs.  Noticed this only couple of months back, and been searching for the solution.
