Leopard fixes disappearing bluetooth!

I'm extremely happy that Leopard has (at least for me) fixed the disappearing Bluetooth problem. I'm most happy because I had purchased a new bluetooth keyboard from Apple and I could not use it for longer than five minutes before bluetooth would disappear. BTW, this keyboard is great.
Cheers,
Diego

Hello ichikoo:
Check to see if the Bluetooth module was accidentally turned off. Also, disconnect all USB devices, shut down, and then start up again. Sometimes older USB devices cause problems with BT modules.
If the BT software is completely gone, you can selectively reinstall it from your software installation DVD.

Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?

  • MacBook pro, snow leopard, iPhone and Bluetooth PAN problems

    Short Version:
I am having connectivity issues connecting my new MacBook Pro (MBP) to the Internet thru a Bluetooth PAN on my iPhone4. This has been working fine for a few days and then today it just stopped working responding that my iphone connection is not available, it's off, too far away or whatever. This is not the case. When I try to connect the iPhone to the MBP the iPhone is saying my MBP is not supported. I can pair the devices, but as soon as I try to connect to the Internet thru the iPhone via the MBP the connection fails.
    Long Version:
I received a shiny new MacBook Pro only a few days ago and I am having Bluetooth Paired networking issues as of today, 2nd, March, 2011. The MacBook Pro is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and is brand spanking new, unmodified, factory defaults.
The iPhone(s) I am using are iPhone 4's with iOS 4.1
On the first day I paired the MBP with both iPhones with ease, it was so easy my grandparents could have done it. So point and click and it just worked....
The iPhones are set up in iTunes with names similar to dave1 and dave2
On the MBP I can select which device I want to connect to the Internet by going to the Bluetooth icon and connecting to whichever iPhone I have handy at the time. Since the plans are limited connectivity, I do load share between the two.
Today, for no apparent reason, I have been unable to connect to my wife's phone just getting a basic "The Bluetooth network is unavailable" message telling me the iphone is out of range, not on, etc etc etc. Not true.
No problem, I just connected to my phone instead. Occasionally I tried her phone again, but it just never worked. I eventually got her to reboot it, still no joy.
Then, a couple of hours ago, while in the middle of reading my rss feeds, my Bluetooth connection dropped out. My phone is sitting right next to the MBP. So that's not the issue. No amount of reboots of either the MBP or the iPhone have fixed this. I have unpaired and repaired the devices (on both phones) countless times. I have removed the sim card and rebooted, I have disabled and reenabled Bluetooth on both, rebooting before doing this, and after and during, I have reset network settings. Nothing I try is working here.
Pairing alone is an event, but here's an example of what's happening:
I go thru the motions, the MBP shows me a number (eg, 451234) and the number is displayed on the iPhone. They see each other. The numbers are the same. Good. I click PAIR on the iPhone and MBP and everything appears good. But then if I go to connect to the iphone on the MBP I get the out of range error.
I have made both discoverable, and tried to connect to the MBP from the iphone, and got a different error message altogether: Connection Unsuccessful - "{insert my name}'s MacBook Pro" is not supported. W-T-F? It was an hour ago? What has changed?
Then, the only option on the iPhone is to "Forget Device". ok, forget it, and start again. Same same.
Neither the iPhones nor the MBP have been upgraded or changed in anyway today, or even recently. In fact, as mentioned earlier, I was actively using the connection without any issues for a number of hours when it just stopped for no apparent reason.
Not that these matter, but I am in Thailand (live here for the time being), I'm on the TrueMove network, which offers 3G coverage in my area (Patong Beach).
This could easily have been filed under MacBook Pro, iPhone, OSX and possibly many other discussion headings, because the issue can be any or all of the OS, the MacBook Pro Bluetooth adapter, the iPhone Bluetooth, (iOS for that matter), or some other unforeseen conditions...
My head is sore from pulling my hair out. I am open to any suggestions (reasonable or otherwise!)
For further info (not that this post is long enough already, or anything, but), I thought it was interesting that the phones didn't fail at the same time, so I pulled out an old iPhone 3GS and set it up, but after pairing, the two can still not connect.
I know its not an issue with the data plan on the iPhone since I'm here surfing now without an issue, so it's not a data problem.
    Open to ideas....
If you've read this far and you're ever in Phuket, give me a call... I'll shout you a beer

Ok, now I do wish I could edit....
I forgot to APPLY the network settings for the USB cable to work. Connected thru USB I can tether.
So, I kept playing, and playing some more...
I had previously unpaired everything, and gone as far as removing network devices HOWEVER...
I didn't remove the Ethernet, Firewire or Airport Network devices.
Now, I have done so. I REMOVED EVERYTHING
    No pairing, no network devices.
Bluetooth was already turned off, and I rebooted.
I turned off tethering and rebooted the iphone.
I turned on bluetooth (on the MBP), I turned on tethering. I browsed for the iphone. It said I was already paired???? Ok, repair AGAIN, and THE IPHONE SHOWED MY BLUETOOTH TETHERING BLUE BAR at the top of the screen!
I opened a web page, no go... d4mn, I was close...
Opened network preferences and the created a new bluetooth PAN and voila! Internet back on the MBP. I am about to reinstall the ethernet and airport (I can live without firewire for now) and see what happens.
Basically, the link I posted two posts ago, I had already done that, but I NEEDED to remove ethernet, firewire and airport as well...
So MAYBE it's fixed, we'll see for how long. I'm not going to mark this as answered for now, because basically, it has failed for no reason, and I want to know why...
Hopefully someone can come up with something, but having to delete and reinstall all pairings and network devices (to me) is not really a solution, it's a workaround (at best).

  • Disappearing Bluetooth Solution

I too had a problem with the Bluetooth icon disappearing from System Preferences on my G5 iMac.
I tried deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file and zapping the PRAM - both multiple times - with no success.
Logging into another user brought the BT icon back. So I copied the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the other User Library into my User Library, rebooted, and all was resolved.
Note: While doing this, I noticed that the the OS had failed to rewrite the prefs file after previous deletions. The com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file was entirely MISSING from my User Library, so adding it back from a known good source was the obvious fix.

  • How to Fix Disappearing HP Printer Drivers -- Disable HP CUE Device Discovery Service

I have a new HP G60-530US laptop with Windows 7 installed (less than 2 months old). It is connected to an HP 7410 All-in-One Printer and a Brother laser printer.
Three times now, the HP 7410 printer has mysteriously disappeared from the installed printers. The Brother printer does not disappear.
To re-install the HP 7410 printer requires disabling the AVS using the Services, msc utility (not just shutting down the AVS (Panda in my case)).  It takes 20 minutes or so to re-install the HP printer driver software.
HP tech support is clueless about the cause or cure for this.
The laptop people referred me to the printer support people and the printer support people referred me to the laptop support people. The last tech support guy suggested that I restore the system on the theory that if the problem persisted it would be a hardware problem and not a software problem. He seemed to miss the fact that the disappearing printer driver software only occured with HP printers.
    HP technical support was worthless.
Some internet forums suggest that this occurs when HP machines are connected to different networks. I noticed my problem occur after I took the laptop on a business trip and connected to a different wireless network.
On Vista forums, I've discovered that the disappearing HP printer drivers has been a problem for some time over a wide range of HP printers.
The solution identified on those forums is to stop and disable the HP CUE Device Discovery Service. Apparently, this service is used to detect HP printers and add them to the HP Solutions Center software.
In my experience, the HP printer drivers disappeared when my laptop comes into range of a "foreign" HP printer with wireless capabilities. For example, my laptop dropped my configured HP wireless printer when I went to an office that had a different wireless HP printer installed. The HP CUE service trashes the existing printer driver even though you do not intend to install and use the "foreign" printer. That would also explain why the printer drivers disappear when visiting a hotel or other location where any HP wireless devices exist. It would also explain why non-HP drivers do not disappear.
I've disabled the CUE Device Detection Service (using the Services utility). I'll see if that works.  From what I've read, the CUE Device Detection Service is not needed after you have installed your printer, but it remains in your computer's active memory just "in case" you want to connect to a new HP printer and install software for that printer.  Said differently, after your printer is installed, it remains as useless HP software that clogs your machine's resources.
A patch from Microsoft or HP (e.g., a patch that disables the CUE service) would be a big help to users if the number of posts on this issue are any indication of how pervasive this problem is.

This seems to be a common problem that exists for many HP devices, varying computer moakes and models and different operating systems. So, the conclusion must be that it is a HP issue. WHY ARE THEY NOT FIXING IT?
Based on this I am quite happy to buy a different make of printer so how does HP justify the continuing lack of support?
I posted a message about my C7180 All-in-one which had been causing problems but I put it down to me making (unrelated) changes to my system then noticed it got worse when I connected a new Trust digital pad. However, even when the pad is not connected I get the problem of disappearing drivers with the printer still visible.
What seems to happen to my set-up is it works when it is first reloaded and used, but the next time I open the HP software it fails and no other software is able to print/scan on the device.
Can somebody explain what the CUE is? I'll give it a try but I don't know what it refers to.
Who'd have thought that in the 21st century, software/hardware engineeers still can't make a simpy process for a computer. Whatever happened to the promise of plug'n'play?
    P.

  • Possible 1.3 Leopard fix for HP, but wierd Elements behavior

Please forgive me for copying what i typed on another forum, but it is a long process to type over again.
ok, here's hoping i dont jinx my latest luck by sharing this method before messing around with it some more. I have an HP 9800 so, of course, your milage may vary based on printer type. Here are several steps that i did in attempting to fix the issue of lightroom printing useing color profiles, I dont know which one fixed it. The first thing i didn was repair disk permissions, which i hadnt done since installing leopard and upgrading to lightroom 1.3. Then i unplugged the printer and went into the printers/fax part of system preferences and removed the printer from the box on the left. Then i right-clicked on it and chose reset print settings or something to that effect. Then I went to the library folder and erased all of the pre-installed printer drivers (which took a while, there are a ton of them that i will never use). Then i plugged the printer back in and ran software update. It found the current HP drivers for my printer. I did all that last night before bed. This afternoon I tried printing from lightroom, and while i had to redo my presets for the printing, I was able to print, using application managed colors, and get an accurate print that seems to be honoring the print profiles.
After that i tried printing in elements with profiles, which hadnt worked for me before either:
As an update, I just tried printing with Elements 4. Previously, while lightroom had a very yellowed out somewhat desaturated look when printing with profiles, Elements had a magenta, orangey cast. After following the steps above, the lightroom prints now look accurate, but elements now has the yellowy desaturated cast that lightroom previously had. This is good and bad as I use lightroom for bulk printing but elements for more accurate specialty prints. Must be something with the new driver pipeline that others have mentioned with leopard, and how the old drivers and the new drivers interact with that and each other, at least that would be my guess.
Anyone know why this fixed lightroom for me, and why elements printing wanst working since upgrading to leopard and still isnt? Thanks

go to the hard drive, the folders before you go into your user folder. Go to library, find the folder for printers and delete everything in it. I know hp is using software updater for drivers, dont know about epson. I then just plugged the printer in, ran software update, and got those drivers.

  • X11 fullscreen mode broken in Leopard - fix available / planned?

    Hello,
in Leopard, X11 fullscreen mode doesn´t work.
Is there already a fix available?
if not is a fix of this problem planned?
As we can see here: http://aaroniba.net/articles/x11-leopard.html it is possible to install Tigers X11, but I´d prefer a fix of the version, which comes with Leopard.
    Martin

    There is a fake way.
To fake fullscreen support with Xephyr:
    $ Xephyr -ac -fullscreen :9 &
    $ DISPLAY=:9 twm&
    $ DISPLAY=:9 xterm &
    It works ok on mine.

  • Is Apple Working working on a fix for Bluetooth glitch in iOS6?

I held off from the iOS upgrade so as to not loose google maps, and so now i can see that there is no quick fix for the obvious flaky Bluetooth!
Dose anyone know are they working on a soft fix?

    Hi Barry,
Sorry if i wasn't clear. In relation to intermittent Bluetooth discusion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19819527#19819527
I am getting the same Bluetooth audio cutouts every 20 seconds or so. It just seems like there is no stability in the signal anymore. My audio Bluetooth headphones had been working brilliantly on iOS5 and have been using them daily for 3 years. I have tried all of the resets with no change and figured it was a code change. Have been a Mac use exclusivley since 98, but i'm no system expert, and was wondering if anyone new of a fix in the works? Cheers.

  • My Snow Leopard Fix...Thought we lost everything!

    Ok, here's the background post:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2143287&tstart=285
OK, so we started off calling Apple. They said erase everything. Not an option for us....the machine had too much important data on it.
So, I purchased a 500 gig external drive, partitioned it, did a clean install of SL on it through the black macbook, and then booted from the external drive. From there we could access all my girlfriends files and transfer them to the external drive. We had our data back! From there we erased the macbook's hard drive, did a clean install of SL, and then proceeded to put all of her files back on.
Then, we ran into the iLife problem. Snow Leopard doesn't contain the iLife apps. So we recovered her bundled install discs that came with her mac, and chose "install bundled software." That took care of the iLife apps. Finally, everything was looking good.
We're installing Microsoft Office 2008 now and updating it. It's getting back to they way it was before this "simple upgrade to Snow Leopard." If there's one piece of advice I can give anyone, it's BACK UP EVERYTHING before installing SL, and an external drive is worth it's weight in gold, especially if you've got very important data.
The funniest part; Apple told us everything was lost and there was NO fix. I'm not a computer tech, and I only switched to mac two years ago, and we figured it out just fine. And so far SL is running fine on both mine and my girlfriends macbooks.
    Don't give up!
    R!

    Michaeldb wrote:
Back Up, Back Up, Back Up...When, When, When. Problem with Time Machine is remembering to connect external drive ( would help if Apple let you use network storage drive).
It does. You can back-up to a Time Capsule; a hard drive on another Mac running Leopard or Snow on the same local network; and, probably, a USB drive attached to an Airport Extreme (although that's technically unsupported, it works fine in most cases.
Many on line back up services available that automatically and constantly back up all selected data via internet, and encrypt for privacy all in the background. Instant access to restore 24/7 365. I use mozy.com with no charge at all.
Can you restore your entire system from them, in a single operation?

  • Option to boot into leopard has disappeared         mac pro/boot camp

I have a mac pro. running the latest version of leopard. quad core xeon 2.66 w.4 GB of RAM. Runs like a dream. Sadly, however, I absolutely had to run a windows program natively. So I dutifully went out and bought a copy of vista, installed it via boot camp, and went merrily on my way. Booting in and/or out of either OS, as warranted, was perfectly smooth. Then I had a few weeks away from work, and when I returned, it was as if leopard had vanished. Starting up I found myself in windows. Odd, as I had the defaults set to open in MacOS. So I restart, holding down the option key. No MacOS. Only windows. Then I see that Vista is yelling at me cuz I have yet to "activate" it and I now apparently have a fake OS. So I activate the *****, all goes well, my fake copy is now miraculouslt genuine again. So I restart again, holding down the option key, and no change from before. So I do it again only this time I zap the PRAM first, and THEN hit option, and same thing, windows only. So I go into windows looking for the Boot Camp Assistant control panel thingie, guess what, it aint there. So I go to startup and recovery options in Windows (control panel, system, advanced) and attempt to reset the default to Mac, only there is no Mac option. OK so now I am perplexed as ****. So I do a system restore in windows, to a restore point just a couple weeks ago when I am, in fact, quite sure that everything worked. and I could boot into and use either OS with ease. Once it restores and restarts, I'm back in windows AGAIN but now it says my OS is a fake (again) and I have to activate it (again) and STILL no sign of Mac OS or boot camp assistant or anything like it anywhere. I dont wanna do anything else cuz now I am seriously afraid I am gonna f* it all up even more. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. I am doomed. Where did my leopard go? What do I do? How do I fix this? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR SAVING MY ABOUT-TO-BE-MEANINGLESS life...

There is a chance you somehow programed your machine to boot to Windows only. To undo this you need a functional Boot Camp Manager. You can repair the Boot Camp Manager using your OSX install DVD - WHILE IN WINDOWS. (Just boot to Vista and shove the DVD in the optical drive - then the re-installation of Boot Camp Drivers and BC Manager can begin).
Before you do that - right-click My Computer then click Explore. Click local disk (C). Next click Program Files and Boot Camp should be about 5 or 6 items down (alphabetically) Click Boot Camp then kbd.mgr (KeyBoard Manager) IF THIS activates Boot Camp Keyboard Manager you'll have no problems choosing an OSX reboot option. NOTE - in my own case, clicking kbd.mgr only prompted the tray icon to appear (which for me is great because I can right-click that icon to access the Boot Camp controls....) but it might work either way.
If it is gone / broken - then find and Click your Set Program Access and Defaults and then Click Change or Remove Programs. You might still have enough of your old Boot Camp Install there left to start a repair (without the DVD). Just locate Boot Camp Services and Click "Change" and repairs will begin.
Anyway - using the Boot Camp Manager you can force a reboot to OSX just by choosing. Good luck.

  • Does 10.5.4 fix missing bluetooth?

    It is now available.

Barry - your comment appears to imply that the 10.5.4 update couldn't have anything to do with the problem others are describing here, and your suggestion isn't terribly helpful. If the problem only seems to have come up immediately after the update was applied, certainly that's some evidence that there is a causal relationship? I too have the problem described here - I'll be reapplying the update using the 10.5.4 combo available at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054comboupdate.html in the hopes that it will fix the problem. Repairing permissions & running fsck from singer user mode thus far have not, nor have the usual pairing problem solutions - in my case the bluetooth module is not even detected after the update in the Apple System Profiler!

  • Does 4.0.1 fix the bluetooth issue?

I saw a thread here very recently (and posted in it) that others were having issues with the bluetooth performance of the iPhone 4, specifically with the Plantronics Voyager Pro, which is the same headset I have.
Has the new OS update helped in that regard at all?
Seems the BT problems is not limited to the Voyager though: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/add-bluetooth-to-the-iphone-4-list-of-woe-update d-2x/7588

Yep, no difference here. Still laggy, no freezes yet, but haven't really pushed it yet.
So Apple still haven't acknowledged this as problem and it would seem that they have no intention to fix it. I've owned Macs since before they had hard-drives and I've never looked back. This whole issue has totally killed my love for Apple. I'm not as ****** off as I am saddened and disheartened.
All Apple had to do to keep my trust and my loyalty was to admit to it being an issue and tell us they were doing their best to solve it. Instead I had an Apple "genius" child tell me it wasn't the OS, I have a old phone and just like an old computer I should update to the iPhone 4. I almost laughed in his face. I asked him if it was an old phone why was it still being sold as a new phone up until June 7 2010? The "genius" didn't have an answer for that one.

  • How to fix a bluetooth not available?

Did somebody can help me on how to fix my macbook because is shows a message bluetooth not available

    Hi Peter411,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the Bluetooth on your MacBook Pro. If Bluetooth is suddenly showing up as Not Available, you may want to try the following process:
OS X: Bluetooth devices become unresponsive - Apple Support
You may also want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC), as outlined in this article:
