Leopard Graphics 1.0 Problem

After installing Leopard Graphics 1.0, I ceased to be able to play DVDs. A DVD is recognized but the player won't start and I just get the color wheel spinning and the system freezing. To correct I reinstalled Leopard, but I was wondering what I need to do to get the graphics upgrade without sacrifice use of my DVD drive!
Suggestions?

I had the same problem with my computer a couple of weeks ago. I actually brought it to the Mac Store and to a genius representative. He basically told me that the Graphics Update 1.0 software is not compatible with the display driver that is inside anything before G5. I have a G5 Imac and have not had this problem after doing the update. In the end I discovered that the only way to fix this problem was to either do an archive reinstall of the OS 10.5 or do a fresh reformat and reinstall the OS operating system of course backing up everything.
I went home backed up all of my files and did a fresh erase and reinstalled the OS 10.5 software. When prompted to reinstall all of the updates I selected everyone except the Graphic Update 1.0. This fixed my problem with the DVD Player program and the freezing of my system. I am surprised that Apple has not removed this download for the Powerbook G4's. This should fix your problem. Let me know if you run into any other problems.

  • Leopard Graphics Update install problem

I've installed 10.5.2 fine, but when I attempt to install the graphics update and restart, it gives me the error "the installer could not install some files in "/". Contact the software provider" I've also tried the combo install, but that gives me the same error. anybody know what's going on here?

Unless you are having problems, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There may be some problems with your setup, and I'm sure an 'erase & install' would cure it - though you might consider this a bit extreme at the moment.

  • Display problems after installing 10.5.2 and the leopard graphics update

Shortly after installing the leopard graphics update, my display started exhibiting problems.
The next day, the powerbook wouldn't even boot, just leaving me at a blue screen.
I tried verifying permissions and verifying disk, reinstalling leopard and eventually did a fresh install of Tiger, which boots, but crashes frequently and has graphics corruption as visible in this screenshot:
    http://pics.livejournal.com/dorukai/pic/000fw0hw
The same corruption is visible on a second monitor if I connect one.
The timing (being right after installing the graphics update) suggests that the update somehow caused this problem (flashing the video card firmware maybe?) but any ideas at all are very welcome at this point!
Unfortunately after installing Tiger I kept getting updates, and one has broken the ability to boot normally, I can only boot in safe mode

I have the same problem. It happened right after I installed the graphics update. When the computer restarted, my screen went crazy. I couldn't see anything, just a screen full of horizontal lines. After restarting a couple of times it seemed to go away, but it has begun to happen again recently. although not as bad yet. I am not saying it's not a logic board issue, but it does seem funny that more than one person is experiencing the same type of problem after the graphics update. I guess it's time to take a trip to the apple store.

  • Problems with Leopard Graphics 1.0 update!!!!

hi ppl..i've instal the Leopard Graphics 1.0 update... and i have problems with it!
my dock is very slow, the finder crashes...what do i do??
    please some help!!

It is strange indeed. So many people have these same issues and yet not a single word from Apple. Something is really wrong with this Leopard Graphics Update 1.0
People are reporting all kinds of problems, but mostly we see these slow-downs... even typing does not respond as it should. There was a huge delay in between typing and characters appearing on the screen. Moving your windows on the desktop also gets jumpy and not smooth as it was before. Crazy things were happening while I had it installed.
So I reinstalled my Leopard completely (since you can't uninstall these updates like on Windows) and reinstalled it from the scratch. Did all updates except this Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 and all problems went away. Same situation on my work machine (new aluminum iMac, 20", 2 Gb RAM).
My advice is - do not download this update, simply ignore it and your machine will work perfectly fine. Until Apple addresses this issue I am staying away from it...

  • A Foot Each In Leopard & Lion - 1st few problems :

    A Foot Each In Leopard & Lion - 1st few problems :
When my late `06 iMac went basically kaput, I went to booting off an external clone of it's entire 600+ gb's from an `06 MacBook . . .
( never knew so much beach-ball and force quits were possible ! )
Dear friends in Austin bought and just sent me a used 2009 21.5" on 10.7.5 ( 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo / 4 GB 1067 MHz RAM ) . .  and it has 487.01 free out of 499.25 GB.
I'm not diving head-first into Lion ( it seems I've heard more problematic tales on that OS then others, maybe ? ), so until I figure out how to enjoy my 600+ GBs on a "new" 499 GB, I'm booting the "new" one off the same external with everything amassed up thru now.
I indeed get confused about which HD is "in charge" . . .
    Leopard's on the external, but it's being processed thru Lion, kind'a ? . . . right ?!
That would suggest many things need to be reconciled :
I first noticed Quicktime Pro couldn't play mp4s of 1080 movie burns.
    Audio plays . .  picture's black !
    That was my first question.
    Then, a simple Control/Shift/3 screen-shot came out completely scrambled . .  everytime !
    Then things got deeper !!
A simple "oh good, iTunes isn't detecting my iPod . .  let's try a restart" resulted in the infamous "your computer needs to be restarted, please hold the power button for several seconds . . ." descending kernel panic screen !!
More attempts got lesser results, up to no gearwheel at all on unchanging gray screen. . .  till I let it be awhile and got back to the kernel screen.
12 hours later it just let me boot to the internal HD with Lion.
But I felt a run of Disk Warrior was still in order . .
    I get :
"DiskWarrior cannot currently be run from this disk because Mac OS X ignores ownership of some disks by default . . ."
it suggest an approach which ends with :
    3) Click the "Sharing & permissions" triangle
    4) Uncheck "Ignore ownership on this volume"
This becomes a ring of Catch 22 till my head hurts !!
Right now, I can't even find an icon of the volume for Get Info, but when I saw it yesterday, it said under "Sharing & permissions" that I have "custom access' !?
When I spoke to the wife of the wonderful couple who sent me this, she said she had indeed entered my name as admin, but there was "no password".
Well Finder sure seems to know about & want one !!
How do accomplish any changes without knowing what it is ???
It's a wee bit difficult to know what my questions actually are when this confused halfway thru the looking glass . . .
And no, outside of the 2009 iMac, & a wireless mouse and keyboard not recognized when booted to Leopard, there was no Install Disc sent.

    Alright, . . .
I feel for anybody try'na sort thru my nonsense here, so let me eliminate things that have "improved" :
The "new" Mac calmed down, became bootable. And once Spotlight finished 90 minutes on indexing the prime external I was able to boot from it again. ( It's where all my apps are afterall, and a terrain I don't have to learn for days to use yet )
On 1st restart option, the external didn't show, but that cleared-up, and I ran Disk Warrior
    the reults --

  • Leopard graphic update

I downloaded and installed the recommended Leopard graphic update, and now certain type on websites appears blurry. I've had this problem before, but fixed it by changing the font smoothing style and text sharpening, however, now no matter what changes I make, the problem persists. Is there anything else I can do? For all intents and purposes major sites like CNN's breaking news banner reads like I'm wearing coke-bottle glasses, and working with larger non-standard type in Pages is giving me a headache. Any advice welcome.

It's actually what I do all the times. When I say that I start in 'closed lid' mode I intend that I open the lid to press the start button and immediately close the lid. In this particular case the Apple Cinema Display remains inactive and after a short while the apple on the lid of my Macbook Pro turns lit and when I open the screen has a black multi language alert which advise me to restart my machine by pressing the start button. After I restart the my Mac in 'open lid' mode and after I log in, appears a message that tells me that the system was restarted after crash and here comes the detailed error that follows:

I hope that Apple will fix this issue as soon as possible.
There is one more thing: as I told before, I thought that the culprit was the graphic update 1,0 but today I have the same problem without it.
    Help needed! Thank you.

  • Snow Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 will not install

I have tried 3 times to install the new snow leopard graphics 1.0 each time it says an "error" has occurred. i even tried downloading it from macupdate.com and installing it that way. But either way it says it cannot expand files.
    Help Please!

my apologies. i put in the snow leopard disk and it began with the install. (assuming pushing install also constitutes a re-install/repair) after 30 minutes or so. it said the install would continue after a restart. It then boot from the disk. The problem was that when is asked which disk to install on Macintosh HD or my Bootcamp partition and i said Macintosh HD it would inform me after 5 seconds that the the contents could not be modified and that snow leopard would not be installed.
And if you mean repair disk as in run disk utility from the disk, for some reason i could only verify disk, the repair option was grayed out.

  • MetaX is suddenly Failing after Snow Leopard Graphics Update?

Is anyone else experiencing any problems with MetaX (http://www.kerstetter.net/index.php/projects/software/metax) causing movies in iTunes to no longer play? I have been using that software extensively previously but since installing the last few updates (Snow Leopard Graphics Update?) everytime I use MetaX to set the tags on my video files it causes them to display a black screen with no audio.

Thanks amop. I was having the same problem intermitently and this worked a treat.
    Cheers....

  • 10.5.2 update and Leopard Graphics update = no sleep mode

All, After updating my MacBook Pro to 10.5.2 and the Leopard Graphics update, my computer will not longer enter sleep mode after a specified time. I can manually set the computer to sleep mode, but it will not automatically go to sleep mode. I have tried resetting the System Management Control Center VIA http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 and everything else in that doc.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA Jon

Call AppleCare and see if they can help.
    Regular trouble shooting
    1) Create a new account, name it test or something
    2) log into that account to see if the behavior changes
    3) If it does, then there is some problem in your own account.
    4) If it doesn't, restart.
    5) If the behavior still doesn't change, there is some system configuration error
    In this case
    6) Open Disk Utility. Verify your disk, then repair permissions (not likely to fix the problem but will at least eliminate that possibilty)
    7) Get a copy of Leopard Cache Cleaner and do a MODERATE cache cleaning
    8) Restart
If still not fixed, reset PRAM and the SMU. Look on the Apple web site for instructions for your particular computer.
If still not different, do an Archive and Install. However go to the Apple web site and download the 10.5.2 Combo updater first. After you Archive and Install from either the disk that came with your computer (assuming that it is Leopard) or the retail Leopard installer. Then run the combo updater. Then run Software Update.
These problems are disturbing and really shouldn't happen, but they do. However, they can be fixed and you'll find that Mac OS is, overall, much better than the alternatives.
BTW, I just went through this whole mess for crashes on wake from sleep (USB issues) and failure to sleep (printer driver issue). Another computer had DHCP problems and actually needed a reinstall. However both of them are working fine now even though it was a pain getting there.

  • Battlefield 2142 plaing SLOW after latest Leopard graphics update

I love using my MacBook Pro to play Battlefield 2142... but ever since I updated the software (which included a Leopard graphics update) the graphics are choppy, the play is stalling and generally slow.
What gives? It was working great before the update!?

I had the same problem with 5.3 and went back to 5.2 in order to play vid games. I saw 5.4 and thought befor I tried it Id call apple tech support to see what the deal is. I didnt get a straight answer. I am going to wait on the game manufactures to see if an update is planned. other wise I may have to get a microsoft dedicated machine for all my vid games. and it doesnt make sence to have to purchase 2 laptops.

  • Leopard Graphics Update

Has anyone noticed an improvement in gaming on the Santa Rosa Macbook? Specifically, I was wondering if frame rates on WOW have improved.

Trying to install the Leopard Graphics Update (via Software Update).
When I do, it gives me the following error:
The update "Leopard Graphics Update" can't be saved
You do not have the appropriate access privileges
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash
To try again, open the package from the Finder
I am the only user/administrator for this computer. It is not connected to a network, nor does it have any enabled sharing.
I just loaded up all the other updates from today (I think Garage Band, Keyboard Firmware, etc.) without problem or error message.
So here's my question: Is this update worth the aggravation of trying to figure out how to install it? If it is, what steps should I take to get it onto my system?
It's worth fixing only because it is a symptom of something else that is wrong. It's little things like this that should not be ignored because they may portend a larger issue.
I would first run DU and check the HD and also permissions verify/repair, if necessary.
You should also create another user account temporarily, with full admin privileges and see if you can install the Update via that user. If you can, then there is something wrong with your present admin account that must be fixed.
If not, then you have to proceed further, looking at the system logs, console, etc., for what it causing the problem.
It's important in keeping an OS running perfectly, never to go past an issue without resolving it.
This is often why upgrades or updates fail in the first place.
    Thanks!

Sorry for the delay getting back to this.
Thanks to Fruhulda and Peter for their comments regarding the refusal of Pages to let me make 3D charts.
In answer to the questions put to  me in this regard :
    1. Pages version : Pages '09  v.4.1 (923)
    2. Mac O/S :          v.10.6.8
    3. 3D chart :          Can't find a 'name', but upright bars with rounded corners ???
    4. Moved apps :    Not that I'm aware of!  All should be as installed off the disc.
    5. A note :              I have been able to create these in the past - related to a SW update?
and ... can create these charts perfectly in Keynote (go figure).
    Thanks to all.

  • After upgrading to leopard, I have this problem with the Dock

Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock, it crashes and restarts, hence I am unable to ever remove items from the dock!
Any ideas on how I might fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

If you do not want to do that, I would probably do an archive and install (it will take you about two hours):
I suspect that this might be yet another of those things linked to the way migrating Tiger user accounts to Leopard can cause permissions issues that an Archive & Install (with the default option to preserve user settings) will not permanently solve. I think the easiest way to eliminate this possibility is to create a new user account in Leopard & see if the problem persists. If it does, & continues to do so after repairing systems permissions with Disk Utility, then it may be worth the time to do an A&I; otherwise probably not.

  • Snow Leopard Graphics Update question...

How do you know if you have the Snow Leopard Graphics Update is installed on your Mac? Can one check in system profiler? Is that I went from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4 via software update, and then when I ran Software Update in 10.6.4, it only showed the Mac OS X 10.6.5 Update rather than the Snow Leopard Graphics Update and the security update as supposed to, I was hoping that when I installed the OSX 10.6.5 update it also instlled the Snow Leopard Graphics update and all the Security Updates issued in 10.6.4 run.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
