Leopard Graphics Extensions Issues (ALWAYS WITH THE GRAPHICS!)

I'm perfectly new to this support for the purposes of this problem.
The problem that has recently popped up is when ever I log in I'm greeted with two messages about "AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext" and "AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext" not being installed properly. As such, I have no access to any resolution other than 1280x800, no transparency effects, I cannot adjust the brightness or contrast, nor can I use the keyboard shortcuts for brightness.
I've tried reinstalling 10.5.4, only to discover that it does not contain anything in terms of graphics updates.
I just need to reinstall these two plug ins properly, but I can seem to get a decent way of doing it. Anybody have any ideas how I can get those working without the system disk (it's at a friends house, I'll need to wait for a few days before I can get it back!) ????

As far as I'm aware the only solution is to reinstall OS X. You can do this via Archive and Install which does not erase the drive provided you have ample free disk space:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

I am having an issue with my Ipod and 20inch display firewire connection. (as long as the Firewire connection went directly into the PowerMac, I have no issue.) But when I am using the display firewire connection, wont connect. So I have to use the USB connection on the display for my music transfer.... This is a brand new display and powermac which I got today.

Same problem here. I can sync the audio files without problem, but when it starts syncing my photos (on a mac 2.7ghz g5 with 20" cinema) i get a "required file not found" error. This only happens when the ipod is connected to the cinema firewire port, not direct to the back of the g5. when i connect to the back of the g5, i get no errors.

  • After upgrading to leopard, I have this problem with the Dock

Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock, it crashes and restarts, hence I am unable to ever remove items from the dock!
Any ideas on how I might fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

If you do not want to do that, I would probably do an archive and install (it will take you about two hours):
I suspect that this might be yet another of those things linked to the way migrating Tiger user accounts to Leopard can cause permissions issues that an Archive & Install (with the default option to preserve user settings) will not permanently solve. I think the easiest way to eliminate this possibility is to create a new user account in Leopard & see if the problem persists. If it does, & continues to do so after repairing systems permissions with Disk Utility, then it may be worth the time to do an A&I; otherwise probably not.

  • Is Wifi issue fixed with the 3.1 update for 1st Gen Touch?

I have a 1G Touch and I have been reluctant to upgrade to 3.0 because of the issues people seem to be having with wifi once they upgrade.
My wifi on 2.2.1 is fine, and I don't want to mess it up...but more and more apps require 3.0.
I'd like to know whether people are finding that the wifi issues are finally resolved with the 3.1 update...or not.
    Opinions?

I upgraded to 3.0 as soon as I got my iPod Touch, so have always had the wifi problems. My home wifi works fine, though slowish. My broadband is a pretty consistent 5.9Mb/s. With 3.0 I was getting under 2.0Mb/s. With 3.1.1 I get between 2.0Mb/s and 3Mb/s (once I got 3.9Mb/s, but only once). I notice from the tests that the meter surges quickly up to about 5Mb/s before dropping like a stone to 2.4Mb/s or 2.8Mb/s. I would be happy for this to be improved but it doesn't really bother me.
But with Public wifi, it's a different story. I get everything from logging on immediately and working perfectly to not working at all. When I can log on to Public wifi, I notice two things. First, it's pretty well certain to fail with secure pages. Second, if it fails to connect the first time, stopping and restarting it will often produce a result. These are classic signs of DNS problems, as I recall from previous Mac upgrades.
I love the iPod, but I would love it even more if the wifi worked the way it's supposed to.

  • Leopard clients periodically lost connection with the AD Server

Hi everyone and, first of all, sorry for my poor english.
I manage a network of Apple computers, connected to an Active Directory server on a Windows 2003. No exotic configurations, Apple clients only use the AD as a login server.
Everything works fine, except for a strange issue that happens sometimes (these days too often, by the way) on the Apple clients: login failed, and the only thing I found to fix this issue is to re-join the computer to the AD server.
When the problem occurs, this is the output of "ls -l /Users":
    drwxrwxrwt   7 root         wheel        238B Mar  1  2011 Shared
    drwxr-xr-x+ 16 2007941056   1918399388   544B May  9  2011 e.valeri
As you can see, UID and GID are not matched with the real Username and GroupName, which are in the AD server.
I am not an Apple expert but I'm a Linux System Administrator, so it is not a problem for me to search in the logs with the command line but, at the moment, I didn't find any clues.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi I.Golovan,
I'm sorry to hear you are having Mail issues on your MacBook Pro. If the disconnect issue to your Mac Mini mail server is intermittent but persistent, you may want to wait until it disconnects, then try running Connection Doctor to see what it returns about the connection, as outlined below:
    Mail (Yosemite): Use Connection Doctor

  • I am having a problem with some extensions including one with the id 972ce4c6-7e09-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd

I believe that I am having two different extension issues.
I have been getting errors in the error console about not able to read the chrome.manifest file for extension 972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd. I do not know what this extension is. I have looked at Troubleshooting information for extensions and can not find this extension.
Also, I applied the Norton fix for Firefox 4 available on the Norton 360 community forum. The Norton Toolbar works on admin accounts, but does not work on non-admin accounts.

I can see that this issue has been quite extensive, and frustrating, and I am so sorry for all that has happened societygirl! I would like to help you work this issue out. Please follow & send me a Direct Message, so I can get your account specifics and help finally bring this to a resolution.

  • I'have a OS X Snow leopard version, is-it compatible with the free version of OS X Maverick

My OS snow leopard is compatible with the maverick ?

If it is mid 2007 or later, Intel core 2 Duo, it should be.   See the link below, top right corner ... tech specs.   You will need at least 4GB RAM.
Apple (United Kingdom) - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Although it says Mountain Lion above, it tells you about Mavericks.

  • TS1317 Internet Connectivity Issue - specifically with the DNS settings

    Hi there,
I'm wondering if someone can help me resolve an internet connectivity issue on my MacBook Pro.
It appears to be a problem specifically with the DNS settings. I am connected to the internet but can only reach a website by typing in the IP address, not the domain name. The error messahe says: "Unable to resolve server's DNS address."
Regardless of whether I use Wifi, 3G modem or cable, i get the same error.
Operating System is Mac OSX Version 10.6.7
    Please help!
    Thanks

It sounds like your MacBook Pro has either incorrect or missing DNS IP address information in it network profile. Let's start with your wireless connection. You would find these in System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > DNS tab
If your main Internet router is performing as the DHCP server, it would provide the DNS IP addresses (typically from your ISP) on this tab. You may have two or more addresses listed. If they are grayed, that means that the addresses are coming from the DHCP server.
In the following example screen shot, I am using DNS servers provided by OpenDNS. Notice that they are grayed as they are being provided by my main Internet router. Again, these should be either ones provided by your ISP or ones you purposely set up, like my OpenDNS ones.

  • Palm 680 Issue - "Connecting with the deskop using Cradle" msg

I have a curious problem with my 680 Smartphone.  When not connected to the cable it is continously and spontaneously attempting to connect with the desktop.  Is this some sort of HW short or malfunction?  The phone is unusable.  Everytime I clear the msg it goes back into synch mode.
Even stranger, if I connect the cable from my PC to the phone, it will become usable again.  I can clear it out of synch mode and use all the features of the phone.
Has anyone ever experienced this?  I have done all the suggested troubleshooting on the support site.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

Hello GlennPalm1000, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
This issue seems to appear when the bottom Hotsync connector gets wet or otherwise contaminated.  You might try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol or contact cleaner from an electronics store.
Any chance the phone got wet?
