Leopard icon doesn't show up on desktop to install.

I've got the Family Pack to Leopard, and already installed it on my computer fine (iBook G4). Just tried installing it on my mom's (same computer, but Tiger OS) and when I install the disc, it makes a ticking sound...and never loads on the desktop. Won't even eject because it doesn't know anything is in there, so I have to restart the computer to eject.
What sounds like the problem? The disc isn't scratched up, so I doubt it's the disc.

Sounds like a bad optical drive. Be sure to visually inspect your DVD because those clicking noises are indicative of a head hitting the media which can scratch it or worse, render it useless.
It could also be the head resetting because it cannot read the DVD.
I would see if a movie DVD works in the drive as a test before putting your Leopard DVD back in.
I would also recommend you make a backup of the Leopard DVD, You will need a dual-layer burner and DL blank, of course.

  • How to Eject CD when icon doesn't show on desktop

I inserted an old CD in my iMac Intel and the icon doesn't show on desktop.
I have re-booted twice and still it does not eject.
Previous answers say to insert a paper clip and get it out that way, but there is no 'hole' to do that.
    Hope someone can help me.
    Thanks
    ROSE

You are a GENIUS!!  holding down the mouse button while re-booting did the trick!
Should I throw away the CD that caused the trouble?  or try mounting it again?
Also...for some reason when I re-booted with the mouse button held down..all my mail accounts are frozen???  I'll deal with that later I guess... but THANK YOU again

  • I tried downlaoding itunes on my Windows Vista and after it completes, the icon doesn't appear on my desktop. The itunes setup can be found just not the actual program.

I tried downloading itunes on my Windows Vista and after it completes, the icon doesn't appear on my desktop. When I search for the itunes under my programs, this is what shows: iTunes64Setup.

It did prompt me to run it. I apologize. I said save.
This is what happens, I run the iTunes64Setup, it downlods, says it has completed and then I click finish on the iTunes installer. After that, nothing comes up. Usually the program will start after it installs. There isn't an icon on my desktop either. When I go and search for iTunes under programs, only the iTunes64Setup appears. I am also having trouble downloading Adope Photoshop as well.

  • Charging Icon doesn't show up (completely) when attempting any kind of charge (computer, plug, car)

When plugged in my charing icon doesn't show the lighting bolt to verify charging. The battery itself just stays at the very low red icon. Any help out there?

    Hiya!
Failing that, you can try plugging the phone into the charger, with it ON and still plugged in... remove the battery. leave it out for a minute and then reinsert it.

  • Old IMAC with 10.5.6 OSX. Forgot Administrator password. Started up from OSX install disc 1 and selected password reset from utilies in Installer. But HD icon doesn't show up. (Only install disc and admin root available:no good). What can I do?

Old IMAC with 10.5.6 OSX. Forgot Administrator password (which I had already changed.) Followed instructions as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
Started up from the original OSX install disc 1 and selected "Password reset" from "utilies" in Installer. But HD icon doesn't show up. (Only install disc and admin root available:no good as the support website underscores: Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.).
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your suggestions. Antonio

Not familiar with that version of OS X but try using Terminal and type in resetpassword. If that brings up a password reset screen is your original username shown?

  • Updated OS & now Time Capsule icon isn't showing up on desktop

Just finally upgraded to 10.5. Now my Time Capsule icon isn't showing up on my desktop. Light is green on TC and I can navigate to it through Macintosh HD folder, then shared devices. I just used it as an additional external hard drive at this point. How do I get the icon to reappear. I already updated Airport too.

Presuming you mean the volume of the Time Capsule's internal disk, mount that, open the Accounts panel of System Preferences, authenticate by clicking on the lock if it's "closed", select your account, select the "Login Items" tab, then drag the icon of that drive to the login items list.
Note that this will cause a window of that drive to appear each time you log in. If you search these discussions, you may find some older threads that discuss ways around that.

  • IRadio icon doesn't show in the music app. What to do?

I have updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7. Went well but the icon for iRadio doesn't show up in the lower left menu of the music app. I'd be grateful for suggestions.

    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Pico 16GB Thumb Drive Doesn't Show Up on Desktop

I was uploading video files to my 16GB Pico thumb drive and then it just stopped, and now it doesn't show up on my desktop.  When I look it up in Disk Utility it shows up, but it wont let me erase or restore it.  What do I do to fix this?

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • My External Hard Drive and Pen Drives doesn't show up in desktop but shows in finder.

Hi, I've been wondering why my Pen Drives and Hard Drives won't show up in desktop when I plug it in.
Its showing up in finder but I cant seem to solve this problem. help!

    No problem.
    (1) Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.  If your dock is on the bottom of the screen, it is the icon on the far left.
    (2) Now, look at the menu called Finder at the top left of your screen and find "Preferences there". Or, you can just press command-,  (command-comma).
    (3) Anyway, once the Preference window opens select the category "General" from the choices there.  You will see a list of things which you can choose to have displayed on the Desktop.  Make your selections and close the window.

I just updated i-tunes to the latest version and, suddenly,  it is not possible anymore to stream Music to my ATV2.
I did a router reset, checked if Apple-TV is visible and has an ID my Wifi sourroundings. Home sharing is activated. But even when restarting everything, the
Airplay-Symbol doesn't show up anymore... And: My Ipad and Iphone found Apple-TV without problems and are streaming music correctly.
is this an i-tuns problem. Anyone having a clue?

  • Lost document in copy-EDD icon doesn't show

I was working on two WP documents. Someone one document copied the other, and I lost the one I was working on. I can't undo it and get it back. Everything is lost. And I thought of my EDD, (external disk drive). But my EDD icon doesn't lit up for OS X. Did something happen to it? Or do I have to go back to Apple to get that one document back to extract, since I can't get extract from one computer to another?

    Hi Kristen,
If you had two documents and you replaced one document with the other than your chances of recovering the original document are very slim at best. There is no Apple program that could retrieve it. It is possible, but unlikely that a program like Data Rescue from Prosoft Engineering might be able to recover it but I doubt it. There are professional companies like Drive Savers that probably could recover it but they are very very expensive. Your chances of recover are best if you use your computer as little as possible.
What program did you use to create the documents?

  • Task manager on windows server 2008 doesn't show the memory from newly installed 2nd CPU

    Hi,
We have a dual processor dell power edge t410 running windows server 2008 (64-bit), standard edition. I have recently added a 2nd xeon x5560 quad-core processor (first one is also x5560 with 32GB (4x8) memory) and 16GB ram (4x4). Seems like the new CPU is
recognized in BIOS, Dell's server admin app and task manager shows 16 vertical boxes (hyper threading is on both cpus) under Performance->CPU Usage History and these boxes show processor load spread relatively evenly across all threads. On the other hand
the additional memory for this CPU is visible in the BIOS, Dell server admin but not in the task manager, which still shows the 32gb under performance->physical memory. Rammap also shows only 32GB.. Currently running proprietary processes that along with
the metafile and windows own ring up nearly 30GB, which in turn causes system latency for GUI and apps, as if the additional 16GB are not there...
    So the questions are these:
    1) does anybody know why the added memory doesn't show up in the task manager / rammap?
    2) if the new memory doesn't show up, does this mean that Windows does not use it (which should be impossible if the CPU is utilized, unless I am wrong about windows using the cpu..)?
    Thank you,
    - Kiril

    Thanks for the reply Ravikumar,
Unfortunately this solution is inapplicable to my version of the OS as it is 64-bit and not 32-bit. Do you have any other ideas?
    Best,
    - Kiril
Yes, PAE((Physical Address Extension) is supported only on 32-bit versions of the
Windows, operating system 64-bit versions of Windows do not support PAE. For information about device driver and system requirements for 64-bit versions of Windows, see
64-bit System Design. The Address Windowing Extension (AWE) API is supported on 32-bit systems. It is also supported on x64 systems for both native and Wow64 applications.
Useful link for Address Windowing Extensions is:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366527(v=vs.85).aspx
