Leopard install = crashing Final Cut

I'm running FCP (the version prior to the latest release) with all of the current updates. I installed Leopard and am running into crashing issues left and right. The program is so unstable it doesn't stay open for more than a few minutes at a time. Is this pretty typical when a Mac OS is updated?
The other programs I have used since the upgrade seem to be running great though.

As an aside...
I get real tired of "do an erase and install" as a recommended practice. Many of us have dozens of programs installed, lots of preferences already set, and lots of "updates" to those installed programs. A regular "archive" or "update" installation takes an hour or so at most, and most of what you've done before is preserved. An "erase" installation may take literally DAYS: heck, even reinstalling MS Office 2004 will take several hours with the five or six automatic updates (download time included). And as you work along, you wind up discovering something you forgot and waste more time.
If I had a single purpose machine with only OSX and FCS installed, that would be one thing, but most of us have multi-use machines. If we have only regular, commercial software installed (no haxies, etc.), an upgrade or archive install should do the trick. If not, then APPLE needs to fix their problems. I abandoned Windows years ago for the apparently constant need to reinstall the entire system, and I hope Apple is not proceeding down the same disastrous path.

Iv'e just completely wiped my hard drive and went to re-install my final cut studio 2 discs to find a message saying that power pc not supported any longer. Is there any solution other than me having to go bak to snow leopard and installing before i update to lion again?

  • Imac 27" . Canopus advc55 firewire in from SVHS tape. Either crashes Final Cut Pro X or has gaps in transfer when sync lost between camera shots.

I have been trying for a few days to dump my SVHS camera tapes to Final Cut Pro X. Using the Canopus ADVC55 encoder fed from a Panasonic SVHS video deck into iMac firewire. The picture appears on screen but will not save as an archive atall. Trying to import into an event has a little more success. When it comes across a section of tape between camera shots without sync it either crashes Final Cut or randomly picks up the replay later or trims the shots down by about a minute. Not sure what to do to let to allow it to import a tape complete with blank sections. I have a Panasonic SVHS deck with timebase correction on output, would this help maintain a constant sync signal for the ADVC55 and final cut pro? Very frustrating just trying to dump videos to digital.

Footnote to this problem. Put a Panasonic WJ-EV5 video mixer inline between deck and Canopus ADVC55 and this maintains the sync for perfect copies. If the red light on the ADVC55 comes on during the import to event sync has been lost and FCPX crashes or aborts the copy in various ways with unpredictable files.
The import to archive still will not store the data.
Maybe Final Cut authors can explain why import to event works but import to archive does not.
    Using version 10.0.8 FCPX

  • Final Cut Studio Pro 2 Install - Skip Final Cut Pro itself - TT_NEWALREADYI

    Dear All,
I hope you can help. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, with OS X 10.4.10 running. It came with iLife 08.
I installed Logic Studio 8 (which was successful), and have been trying to install my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. When I run the installation, the options appear for custom install, but FInal Cut Pro, Compressor and QMaster are greyed out, and the action identified for them is "skip. If I rest the mouse over any of the options the text TT_NEWERALREADYINSTALLED appears.
I have tried uninstalling the Logic Studio components with AppZapper, and retrying the install of Final Cut Studio, but no matter what I try to do, it won't install Final Cut Pro.
    Can anybody help?
    Kind Regards,
    Nick.

  • Editing MPEG-2s is crashing Final Cut

I'm editing together a montage of clips. And I imported a number of of Mpeg-2s of my finished movies. Everything worked fine yesterday. I just had to render the clips when I dropped them into the time line. But when I opened the project today, anything i do with the Mpeg-2s crashes Final Cut. If I try to render them, it crashes. I move them, it crashes. If I open them from the bin, it crashes. Does anyone have a remedy for this?

Although you'll think me a smart-aleck, my answer is the same as the doctor whose patient said "Doc, It hurts when I do this"... Then don't do that.
Seriously, FCP was not made to edit MPEG2. MPEG2 is not an editing format - it is a delivery format. Yes, it will edit HDV forms of MPEG2, and that may lead it to believe it can edit other forms, but I think you'll only run into trouble there. I'd convert your MPEGs - investigate MPEG Streamclip for free, DVDxDV for money...

  • Text tool crashes Final Cut Pro

    Hi all,
Has anyone come across this before? If I try to use the text tool in FC, trying to open the 'control' tab stalls and crashes the system. Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?
    Cheers,
    Justin.

    Hi,
Thanks for the good advice. I did find one faulty font. However, the problem remains. Funny thing is, I can't change the settings on text that's already on the timeline without causing a crash. I used a crash analyzer and it says Final Cut crashed because there's flash on the timeline! None there, of course, and the timeline is ProRes so there should be no problem.
Just got to finish these few videos before I upgrade to Snow Leopard. Any other suggestions?
    Justin.

  • AVCHD and Snow Leopard (I-Movie / Final Cut Express)

AVCHD and Snow Leopard. I have been using Final Cut Express 4 and I-Movie 08 since they both came out. I have been using the same AVCHD camcorder (Cannon HG10) with both programs, and it has worked perfectly. Now I have installed 10.6 and 10.6.1 and now neither program will allow AVCHD transfer. Both recognize the camcorder but won't transfer.
A little poking around on the internet and I discovered that Snow Leopard won't support AVCHD (http://www.shedworx.com/no-avchd-in-snow-leopard). Third party web site mind you.
So far I agree it won’t work with AVCHD. Now since both programs were developed to use one of the most widely utilized formats in HD camcorders, again AVCHD, this accidental or intentional over site smells of Microsoft, not Apple.
I like some of the features of Snow Leopard but for me the video aspect is one of the top requirements. Apple had been the leader in the multimedia revolution and this mis-step with AVCHD is it’s typical of Apple.
I have just restored back to 10.5 and every thing is working again.
Now that were around the block here is the question. If anyone can come up with a solution…that does not include the used of third party software to convert, please let me know.
And to Apple, please fix this problem, I’m already hearing the complaints with QuickTime X, and seen the headlines, “Snow Leopard, is it Apples Vista?”.

This is, to be polite, a misunderstanding. Shedworx are being careless with their terminology.
    1. SL itself does not support AVCHD, but neither did Leopard.
    2. AVCHD support is built in to the movie editing software (iMOvie, FCE, FCP), exactly as it was in 10.5
    3. I am happily editing AVCHD from my HG10 in iMovie 09 and in FCP, in exactly the same way I did under 10.5
So you have a specific issue with your camera, you've taken that with some carelessness from Shedworx, and on that basis you've decided, incorrectly, that Apple does not/will not support AVCHD.
There were many cases under Leo where people reported problems getting their camera to communicate with iMovie. Solutions include:
    1. Trashing iMovie preference files
    2. Repairing permissions
    3. Copying the AVCHD folder tree from the camera to disk, and importing to iMovie from there
    4. Using MPEG Streamclip to convert the camera footage before importing to iMovie
5.Making sure the camera is running on mains power, not battery, and that it's in playback mode.

  • Crashing Final Cut

    Hi,
I'm in the log and capture process of working on my movie. I have one tape that is full of good shots and would like to capture the whole thing onto the computer. However, I've let Final Cut capture a few times and when it gets to the end of the tape, final cut crashes and the footage is lost.
Is there a recommended limit to the number of minutes you should capture before saving?
Does final cut do Auto save? Is the footage I've presumably lost in these crashes really hiding out in some autosave folder I'm unaware of?
    Thanks for your help,
    Adam

Yep, I'm using Firewire to connect my panasonic camcorder to the mac.
I am using Final Cut Pro 6.0.1
I do not have more than one hard drive installed on my macPro.
I have roughly 2 weeks of experience with Macs as well as Final Cut.
I can't say for sure where my media files are being stored/sent to. All I know for sure is that when I first opened FCP, before I did anything, I clicked on Easy Setup and made everything default.
As far as the scratch disk... I think files are being put in the CApture Scratch folder?
I went through the tape bit by bit today instead of trying to capture it all at once. I got the entire thing on without problem. But it was annoying when I was trying to capture the tape in one fell swoop and FCP abruptly would kaput.

  • Errors During Instalation Of Final Cut Studio 5.1

    Aloha,
I am having some trouble here!! I am trying to install FCP Studio Pro 5.1 on my mac. I tried to do an upgrade from FCP 4.5 HD on my orriginal Hard drive. The instalation went through its paces & asked me to put in the second disc. I did then it came back with an anoucment that there were errors during instalation & to try again I did & was never able to get it to instal... Getting frustrated I ran diskworior on the drive & tried again no luck... after some time I thought it might be the drive would not let me because there was an earlier version on there.... so any way after some other problems with this drive I decided to completely erase & instal Mac OSX on my second hard drive that has never had anything on it. I made this my new startup disk & upgraded the OS to OS 10.4.9 I then Tried to install FCP Studio Pro 5.1 on this drive.. this time It never got to ask me to put in another disk it came back with the same error during instalation try again!!!!!! So now I am getting ******!! but odly enough Final cut studio shows up in my aplications. When I click on it it gives me a warning that there was an error registering & once I click ok it seems to launch FCP 5.1....... ?? So is it really there or not??? & why is it not installing the other 4 discs??? and to add insult to this I have tried to install iLife 06 & I get the same error!!!! WHY!!!!!!!!!
Another thing.. I installed FCP Studio Pro 5.1 on another Identical computer down the street & it installed no problem!!!!
    Can anyone help Please!!!!!!

I would take a different approach.
I would backup the old drive files to an external, and then do a clean wipe and new install of OS, updates and the FCS.
Best way to do it, in my view.

  • Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio

I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks

Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.
What makes you think you do not have it?

  • Re-install of Final Cut Server

I need to setup Final Cut Server 1.5 on a different server.  When using the installation media, I get the following screen:
I am running on a Dual 2.8 ghz Quad-Core Mac Pro.  The graphics card is a nVidia GeForce 8800 GT.  Any help on this would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Did you have it plugged in when the MacPro was started up or after?
Because I have tried with xServes and MacPros to attach monitor after it gives warning
    with no luck.
In fact you CANNOT install with remote desktop in data center w/out KVM.  Stupid.

Can't install unable to find easy setup file please reinstall and try again.

Make sure you uninstall all the components of Final Cut. Do a search on your Finder. Then install from the installation disc. If this doesn't work you should contact Apple for help with installation issues. The disc may be defective.

  • Instal;ling final cut pro version 5.1

Does any one know how to stall Final Cut Studio v 5.1 on a OS X 10.9.2. It was orginally made for a 10.7 or 10.6. when I put the installation disk in it just spits it out without opening or reading anything. please help

When the drive just spits the disc back out, it's a "read" problem. Final Cut Studio v 5.1is a U/B so it should have no problem installing on a new Mac, but only if the disc will remain in the drive.
Does it spit out anything else, or just this one disc?
