Leopard install disc in Snow Leopard?

I'm trying to run Disk Utility from an install disc to resize my startup disk partition (previously decreased in size to make room for a Linux partition, which is now deleted), and I'm having trouble locating my Snow Leopard disc, so I wonder if it's possible to run DU from my Leopard disc and get my desired goal in resizing the partition, or if I really do need my Snow Leopard disc to perform this. Any help is appreciated.

Try it. I pretty sure it should works as it's only booting up from the disk. If not, then you might as well buy a Snow Leapord installation disc. There not as expensive.

You will need to run AHT from your original install disc.
AFAIK, you can't find this program on any retail disks, i.e., the SL upgrade.
This makes some sense, I guess, since the hardware test would be very machine specific.

initialy All I was trying to do was downgrade 10.7 to 10.6 .

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying. If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:

How do I reinstall my operating system (Snow Leopard) after a hard drive upgrade. I did a Time Machine backup before the new hard drive was installed. I put in the Snow Leopard install disc and don't get the icon I'm supposed to double click to install Snow Leopard and then the backup.
HELP PLEASE!!

Is the new HHD in the MBP?
Is the new HDD formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
Where is the old HDD? In an enclosure? What is on the old HDD, your user data? Is the Snow Leopard System on it?
Do you have a separate Time Machine Disk with your user data?
Answers to these questions should give an exact status of your situation so that one can proceed in the right direction.

MacBook Pro will not read Snow Leopard install disc.

Trying to install Snow Leopard on daughter's MacBook Pro, which is still on 10.5.8 so that she can install Lion. Her computer refuses to read the Snow Leopard install disc and keeps kicking out the disc.

Are you using a retail 10.6 disk that looks like this?
and not the gray install disks that look like this? The Gray Disks are machine specific and only have the drivers for the Mac that they shipped with.

Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on the 2014 MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina that I purchased a few months ago. Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on it? I do not have a DVD drive and do not own OS X Snow Leopard discs. I do have a retail copy .dmg file of it though. Can I copy it over to a USB flash drive and install it on a partition of my hard drive? How do I do that, if it's possible? Can you list the steps? I would appreciate it!

Can I install Lion over Snow Leopard without erasing and restoring hard drive?

Been reading a lot about downloading Lion. Recommended to back up hard drive to ext. drive, erase hard drive, install Lion and then re-install apps and files from ext. drive. Can I just install Lion over Snow Leopard without erasing all apps and files on hard drive?

If you do an upgrade install then be sure to do this first:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Make a bootable backup just in case. Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

Leopard Install disc ejecting during installation

Had my HD go down.(I know, it's funny when it happens to somebody else.)
Replaced it with a new one and after some work, got it working with 10.4.11.
Go to load the Leopard install disc. (I purchased the retail version
and had Snow Cat running too.)
Restart begins to happen as I click the restart button to begin installation.
When Macbook comes back on, it spits out the disc and goes no further with the installation.
I've had some good technical help from people who know more than me.
Ruled out the dvd malfunction with the install of Tiger from the disc.
Ruled out the disc malfunction by trying it a Macbook Pro.
All the software updates are done as well as the update's updates.
I tried a firmware update, it came up 'you do not need this app."
I've tried holding 'c'. Something weird happened when I held 't' like
someone said to do. There's the option key hold down. The apple hold down.
Everything is spitting this thing out.
I'm stuck.

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on an iMac 27in

My Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on my iMac 27in. The Apple Logo is the only thing the user will see. The current OS on the system is 10.6.6. Upon placing the Snow Leopard DVD in the system, the DVD players spins for a few seconds and displays the Apple Logo. Nothing happens after 20 minutes.

Yes, it is ridiculous how it is impossible to install Snow Leopard. I have two Snow Leopard DVDs: one that I purchased for a Macbook soon after it's release (10.6.0), and one that came with my iMac (10.6.4). Both of these boot up my Macbook (running 10.6.7) just fine. My SL 10.6.0 DVD mounts onto my iMac (Lion 10.7.0), but you cannot run the install. I attempted to boot from this DVD and got the infinite white screen and Apple logo, as some have reported above. The other SL 10.6.4 DVD will not even mount in Lion, and will not even show up as a bootable drive when I attempt to select it after holding alt/option on reboot.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.0, attempted boot, same infinite white screen/apple logo.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.4 on my macbook. I attempted to boot from this drive, and got the white screen of death, except that this time I actually got the loading symbol underneath the Apple logo. After about a minute of attempting to boot, the Apple logo changed to a circle with a diagonal line through it (the "NO!" sign).
I took my iMac to the genius bar. They inserted SL 10.6.0, which would not boot. Then they determined that my computer had to run 10.6.4 and later. So, they restored an image of SL 10.6.4 onto my partition (not an install from an image, but an image of SL already installed). Hurray! Snow Leopard was successfully shoved onto my iMac!
I then deleted a third partition on my hard drive I did not need anymore, which somehow screwed up my SL partition (even though it said "Will not erase partition SL or Macintosh HD). Now I am back at square one, and I guess I need to take my flippin iMac back to Apple for them to do what I should be able to do.
I like Apple, but sheesh do I hate Lion right now.

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
Or
3- the App store

Re-Installing Mac OS (Snow Leopard)

I've seen some other posts about upgrading the OS drive and cloning, however, I have not seen any posts for what I would like to do. My main concern is whether or not what I am planning to do is correct.
I plan on upgrading my Mac Pro with 4x1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm drives. Replacing the 1x250GB (OS Drive) and 3x500GB data drives that I currently have. I plan on making all 4x1.5TB drives as a single large RAID5 disk, then create multiple partitions for the OS, Data, etc.
My first question is if this is a good idea to do? I'm looking at using RAID in the event of a disk failure since there will be a lot of data stored (approx 4.5TB).
My next question is how do I clone/restore my existing OS drive onto the new disks/partition? I don't want to go through the exercise (if I don't have too) of reinstalling all my software, license keys, etc. I do use time machine to maintain a backup of OS drive on an external 1TB disk. So I was planning on trying to leverage it to restore the OS disk onto the new partition.
So here is what I was planning on doing:
1) Backup the OS drive using time machine
2) Pull the old drives and replace them with the new
3) Install Snow Leopard, creating the RAID5 disk using the 4x1.5TB drives
4) Restore the OS disk completely from Time Machine Backup.
Will this work? And is this the correct way to do this? Or is there a simpler way?
Last question, does anyone know if I have to first install Leopard then upgrade to Snow Leopard since I only purchased the SL upgrade or can I do a complete new install using the SL disk?

Forget TimeMachine for cloning your system, Apple DU Restore or SuperDuper does fine (you can still use T/M if you want).
There is no software way to create RAID5.
