Leopard Install Failure: Message "saProxy crashed"

Trying to install Leopard Server on a G5 XServe. I reformatted/erased disk before installing. Everything appeared to go okay, after installing machine restarted for initial set-up, I entered serial, personal info, network info etc and after reviewing the entries clicked apply.
Candy-bar appeared and message read "please wait momentarily while server is configured". The candy-bar moves along around 95% and then doesn't progress any further. About 20-30 minutes later a message appears stating "Back end tool saProxy crashed". Then message " Recommend manual restart otherwise machine will automatically restart in 20 seconds". Sure enough machine restarts and goes back to the Server Set-up screen.
This process is repeated each time I try to configure it and there is no way out of the loop without a hard shutdown. Has anyone got any ideas on the cause?
I will do another reformat and clean install but I want to avoid a repeat of this problem.

I encountered this problem while installing Leopard Server on a G5 and G4 XServe. Only once did I catch the error message before it had disappeared off the screen (by automatic restart).
The solution? I logged into Single-User Mode and created the zero-length hidden file /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone by using the touch command.
This can only be done after the first go-round of Setup Assistant, otherwise you'll have no user account.
Follow these steps, press [Return] after each line (2, 3, 4 only).
1) Boot XServe into Single-user Mode by holding Apple-S while powering on.
2) Keep holding Apple-S until you see the Apple logo turn into a black screen w/ white text.
3) Mount the root drive: *mount -uw /*
4) Touch the file: *touch /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone*
5) Reboot the server: reboot
This hidden file instructs the OS to skip the Welcome / Setup Assistant and go straight to login.

  • Found another Leopard install failure

I bought the family pac to put pn my 4 Macs. I proceeded to install first on my oldest machine "in case". It is an blue G3 upgraded to a G4 with new chipset etc. Running at 1.2Ghz/2Gb ram and 2- 160gb HD. After going through the install twice I still end up with a machine that boots and immediately shuts down, can even get the command-S to work beyond a few lines on reboot. I've had to re-install Tiger twice just to have something to work with. I am now hesitant to move to my G4 PowerBook, or MacBook Pro, or iMac.
Any way to get the blue box to run Leopard?
    jcaruso

    Hi jcaruso-
Considering that particular machine is not supported I am not surprised.
Apple does not support upgraded CPUs. I think that there may be workarounds but it may be best to try it out on a supported machine first.

  • Why do I keep getting a recurring Firefox udate install failure message?

I keep having the recurring problem of the update install failing. Once this process starts it keeps cycling, basically taking over my computer, and I cannot quit it. I have to reboot my system. Then I have to use Internet Explore , go to the mozilla website and do a fresh download and install of firefox, and this finally gets rid of the problem... for a while. This has happened twice already. Any help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the software update feature by deleting the files and folders as shown on this site - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update

    Hi Neill
    Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/PubSub.framework/Versions/A/PubSub
Per the above, your computer is missing a critical OS X file. Do you have another machine with OS X Leopard installed? If you do, I'll give instructions for copying that file from one machine to another.
    If not:
If you have another browser installed, such as Firefox, download and run the 10.5.1 Update. If you don't have access to another browser, I suggest you pay a visit to an Apple Store or a certified Apple Tech location to assist you with these suggestions.
After the Install/restart of the Update, "repair permissions" etc. Do not use the computer while the update is running. Restart Safari. (you might get lucky if the update adds the file to your system).
If no go, then I suggest reinstalling the OS using the Archive and Install method.

Lotfi are you receiving any error messages during the installation?  I would recommend reviewing your installation logs for errors.  Please see Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html for information on how to locate and interpret your installation log files.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • OS X 10.5 Leopard - Installation error message "No software to install"

    Hello,
I am trying to upgrade my Intel iMac (Early 2006) from OS X 10.4.11 to Leopard OS X 10.5.
I insert the Leopard DVD and installation begins after restarting. The DVD consistency check runs fine but as soon as installation commences a yellow exclamation mark appears on the screen and informs me that installation could not complete as there is "no software to install".
    - I have checked the DVD for scratches: No scratches.
    - I have changed the RAM: Error messages occur regardless of the RAM configuration. (I have 2 x 1Gb RAM memory sticks installed, from Kingston memory). I went back to the original iMac RAM installed (2 x 512Mb RAM sticks) and the same error message appears.
I restart the iMac using the Startup disk and return to OS X 10.4.11.
Any hints on how to get the Leopard installation to work?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Success!
I moved 21Gb of stored files from the hard drive I was trying to install Leopard on. Went from 29Gb of free space to 50Gb.
For some reason the OS X 10.5 Leopard installation process liked this and Leopard installed.
I thought only 9Gb of free space was required to install Leopard?
    Anyway, it worked.
Excellent. I will be sure to bookmark this thread. One never knows when it may come in handy.
The answer to your question is a little complicated and has been answered (approximately) elsewhere. Hopefully someone can point you at it.

Put in a supported SIM from the carrier that locked the iPhone.

  • Leopard install = crashing Final Cut

I'm running FCP (the version prior to the latest release) with all of the current updates. I installed Leopard and am running into crashing issues left and right. The program is so unstable it doesn't stay open for more than a few minutes at a time. Is this pretty typical when a Mac OS is updated?
The other programs I have used since the upgrade seem to be running great though.

    As an aside...
I get real tired of "do an erase and install" as a recommended practice. Many of us have dozens of programs installed, lots of preferences already set, and lots of "updates" to those installed programs. A regular "archive" or "update" installation takes an hour or so at most, and most of what you've done before is preserved. An "erase" installation may take literally DAYS: heck, even reinstalling MS Office 2004 will take several hours with the five or six automatic updates (download time included). And as you work along, you wind up discovering something you forgot and waste more time.
If I had a single purpose machine with only OSX and FCS installed, that would be one thing, but most of us have multi-use machines. If we have only regular, commercial software installed (no haxies, etc.), an upgrade or archive install should do the trick. If not, then APPLE needs to fix their problems. I abandoned Windows years ago for the apparently constant need to reinstall the entire system, and I hope Apple is not proceeding down the same disastrous path.

File Sharing over Bluetooth is not a feature of iOS devices. iOS does not include the required Bluetooth profiles to allow this. You cannot add this feature, so you may as well stop trying.

i have had repeated kernel panics. taken laptop to apple store twice in the past few weeks and they found nothing. suggested upgrading to snow leopard (i was on leopard) and the computer froze and flashed during the install and crashed. now it won't start in any mode. not safe mode, off the leopard install disk. i either get a flashing folder with a question mark or just a black screen. anything else i can try or has the system totally crashed. this is an 07 macbook pro.

Daniel ~ Welcome to the discussions. If you didn't backup iWeb's key Domain file before the clean install, you'll probably need to start over. I say "probably" because even though you didn't deliberately back up the Domain file, perhaps you were running Time Machine — in which case, there's still hope:
Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Macbook crashes after Snow Leopard install

I've just upgraded to snow leopard, but now the macbook crashes about 3 seconds after the desktop appears. How do I getout of this? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

    Boot in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot can take a few minutes.
Launch Disk Utility. That is located in /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Note:  While you have the Disk Utility window open look for Capacity and Available at the bottom of the window.
Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
