Leopard licenses query

Hi all, I have an iMac and Macbook Pro, and was wondering if I could buy the single-user license of Leopard and install it on both machines, or would I have to buy to the five-user family pack? Would there be a problem with installing the single-user license on 2 machines? Both the machines are used only by me, so the single user license should apply, yes?
Just fyi, I don't have a local network between my Macs, just use bluetooth or my pen drive to share files between them.

The term 'user' is a bit confusing, because really they mean 'machine'. Under the Terms and Conditions you should install Leopard on only one machine unless, as you say, you buy the Family Pack.

I'm trying to track my license usage (to better determine when to buy new licenses, and to track usage over time).
When I issue the 'tarantella license query command, this is typical of the output I see:

The base license is the number of users that are logged into a webtop.
From there you count then connectivity type.
So you have 6 webtop licenses out of 230 consumed and of those 4 users have launched UNIX sessions out of 230 you have licensed.

MacBook Black: Selling - Leopard license question

Greetings,
I'm interested in selling my MacBook Black. The only lingering question I'd like some advise on is what exactly to do with the Leopard license that will come with my new MacBook... I'll explain.
My current MacBook Black came with 10.4.x, and when Leopard came out I purchased a family pack (5 seats) to install on my Mac Pro (quad core) and MacBook Black. Now that I'm looking to sell the MacBook Black I'd like to ship it with Leopard installed... here's what I thought about doing.
While holding on to the MacBook Black, purchase a new MacBook. Wipe the new MacBook and do a clean install from my family pack. Transfer files from the MacBook Black to the new MacBook, verify everything is happy, make a backup of my new MacBook. Wipe my old MacBook Black and do a clean install of the Leopard license that came with my new MacBook, and ship this original disk along with all related contents to the purchaser.
My only concern is that if the family pack of Leopard keeps track of installs... would this read 3/5 installations when at this point it should only be 2/5? Also I'm not 100% certain if it matters using an older Leopard install disk on the new machine and the newer Leopard install disk on the old machine.
I'm all about doing this in a professional manner, and initially it doesn't seem like I'd need to purchase yet another Leopard license for the purchaser because one already comes with my new MacBook.
Any advise would be much appreciated

That's correct. You cannot install your copy of Leopard from the new computer onto the one your will sell. That violates the license agreement. Your Family Pak does not extend to the original discs that come with the new computer. If you were to install Leopard in that way then you would be legally obliged to provide the original discs from your new computer to the person who buys the old one. You do not want to do that for two reasons: 1) the discs contain your pre-bundled software, Windows Boot Camp drivers installer, and the Apple Hardware Test suite; 2) they are OEM discs and will only work on your new computer.
True, the computer will not have Leopard installed on it. If the new owner wants Leopard, then they can purchase their own legal copy or you can purchase a single-license copy of Leopard to provide with the computer when you sell it.
Legally these are your alternatives.

Oracle 10g Licensing Query

Hi,
I have a query with regards to Oracle 10g licensing for additional options (OLAP, Data Mining, Partitioning, Spatial & Database Vault) on top of enterprise edition.
Even though i am not using any of the options, i have them installed along with enterprise edition. Do i still need to pay for these additional options?
From 10g, you can always prove to oracle that any of the features/options are not in use via DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS.
We are using shared infrastructure for hosting many application databases. Today we have a application that uses only partitioning, but tommorrow we might have to create a database within the same oracle home that uses OLAP & data mining as well.
would be interested in knowing what is oracle stand on this i.e. we pay for additional options only if we are using them or we pay just because they are installed regardless of we are using them or not??

You need to pay licenses if you are using it commercially and if it is installed and you haven't paid for it then how would you stop anyone not using it because its not paid but its there. This will be against your contractual agreement and they may fine you or you have to pay for the options. So I recommend not to install options you haven't paid for to avoid any issues. But if you are using for learning purpose and not commercial then you are good. You can further contact local Oracle Support or local Sales rep for more information

MacBook / Leopard license question .

My Windows laptop has recently failed and I am considering replacing it with a MacBook .
If I buy a MacBook in a few weeks/months with Leopard installed on it , can I install that copy of Leopard on my Mac Mini ? Would I / Could I be able to upgrade the license of the copy of Leopard included with the MacBook to a 'Family' version ? Or will I have to buy a stand alone ( upgrade ? ) copy of Leopard for the MacMini alone .
Should I buy a MacBook now , and then buy one upgrade copy of Leopard , with a 'Family' license and upgrade both , will this be a cheaper option ?
If anybody can help me decide what the best solution is , I'd be really grateful .

The original poster was just asking if they can install their copy of Leopard that comes with their MacBook (if they wait until Leopard comes out) on their mini... There's no reason to assume everyone is familiar with product licensing. The fact that they asked... and followed up asking about getting a family license would seem to indicate they want to do the right thing.
If you decide to wait for Leopard to purchase your MacBook, you are not authorized to install the copy of Leopard supplied with the MacBook on your Mini.
It's not clear exactly when Leopard will be released. If you are looking to purchase a MacBook soon, you can always purchase the family version of Leopard when it is released.
So far as the cheapest way to get Leopard on both your Mini and your MacBook... As Apple will likely charge the same for Leopard as the current price for Tiger (although they have not announced pricing), that would be $129 for a single user license and $199 for up to a license for up to 5 users (which is an insanely good deal when compared to Windows licensing). The cheapest thing to do would be to wait until Leopard is released so it would come preinstalled on the MacBook and you could buy a single user copy for $129 for your Mini. I've never had an issue with the pricing for OS X. It pains me to have to buy a copy of Windows... their pricing has always been outrageous and has gotten more so with Vista.

License query

I have a query about licensing. This should be the realm of the suppliers, but I'm finding it hard to get an answer without going off and having a meeting wherein we commit to a purchase.
I know most vendors with an "educational" license, allow this license for use in all non for profit applications (such as Microsoft). With the development license for Oracle being "free", what is the status of a "not for profit" license, for 11G database, if in fact such a thing exists?

The latest signature release (as of this writing) is S600, released October 5, 2011.
You need to be running E4 release of software to have these installed.
See if you have S600 on your sensor (show ver), if you don't then you do not have automatic signature updates working without a valid license.(as expected)

If i have SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise License key for a single instance and I am installing all the shared features from the setup. Then is my license counted as being used or no?
Or is it only used when i install Database Engine?

No, a separate license is not required for
Management Tools.
However, any device that has SQL Server tools or technologies installed must have a valid SQL Server license.

We need to purchase Xcelsius license, SAP Accounts rep has provided following link for online store where I can see Departmental edition, Personal edition and dashboard viewing licenses.

I know this query should be asked to the accounts rep but unfortunately I am not getting proper response from them and we need to purchase this ASAP.

I look after pricing and licensing for SAP BusinessObjects BI.
BOE Premium does not provide for Xcelsius Dashboard viewing rights. BOE Premium includes Crystal Reports, Webi and OLAP Intelligence viewing rights. Xcelsius was acquired after the release of BOE Premium and it is an add-on to that license model.
To view dashboards integrated with BO Premium, you will need the Xcelsius Interactive Viewing license.
Note that this is a legacy license model. Current customers can purchase more of this but we have been positioning the BI Suite to new customers since 2011.

Oracle data lookup - Licensing query

Not finding the right forum to post this query, so i hope the coffee shop folks can be helpful
We are running SAP R/3 4.7 Enterprise with Oracle 9.2.0 as the backend database (on Windows Server 2003 OS).
Our Oracle license is embedded with SAP i.e., not acquired separately.
For business needs we intend to make read only queries to the backend database (Oracle database lookup) programmatically through Microsoft's SharePoint portal.
For the access methods, one option is to use Business Data Catalog - BDC of sharepoint which queries the Oracle database directly (using xml).
Would appreciate comments on whether this is authorized or we need any additional component / license?
I have already noted the restrictions mentioned in note 581312, particularly point 3 which speaks about SAP provided Oracle license

A couple of followup thoughts:
1. Actually, the current need i am trying to fill is to read the 'reports to' relationship from SAP so as to fill the manager field/attribute in the Sharepoint User profile. I understand that the right way to do this is through standard interfaces of SAP like RFC/BAPI with the authorization checks in place but unfortunately, my sharepoint developer is unable to use RFC with Business Data Catalog (xml based). Says only a database query is possible. Perhaps he is wrong and i am trying to confirm this. If you have any thoughts on it, please do share.

Adobe licensing query

I have installed Flash CS5 and Flash 8 on single computer system to frequently work on both softwares Hence, my query is that how many Flash licenses required to purchase to me to complain with adobe licensing?
If I have purchased one Flash CS5 license then is it possible to use any old version of flash software on the same system which already have installed license Flash CS5?

PSE 8.0 and Snow Leopard "Licensing for this product stopped working" issue

I'm trying to install newest Photoshop Elements 8 on the Snow Leopard and... so far without any good news. The installation process goes without any warnings or errors, hovewer when I try to run it, I get this information:
I tried to remove everything i have of Adobe (Acrobat etc), even removed Adobe Application Support and Prefs, but so far no luck. Can anybody help me with that issue?

Education (not student) License Query

Hi,
I'm a full-time mature student in the UK, in the middle of a 4 year course, and I'm interested in purchasing Adobe software.
I'm well aware of the Student License available, but also aware of it's limitations, that it can 'never' be used for commercial use.
That's a little restrictive, as I'm not sure what I may do with the software in the future.
However, there also appears to be an Education License here in the UK, which is for teachers and students, and permits the software to be used commercially if desired.
My query is, it appears that the Education License is limited to students and teachers, "at an accredited Educational Establishment."
The college I attend is independent, and receives no government funding. Does that mean I'm not entitled to purchase an Education Licensed version of Adobe software?

Then is it possible to shift the Single
Paper-License from one of the Old-Machines to this New Machine.
Provided that we will discard and stop using that Old-Machine, (from where the license was transferred.)

For the above mentioned Microsoft License , the
Last Date for Repeat orders was 30 April 2014.
Is this case, Are we eligible to buy a Single Paper
License if we now want to ??

IWORKS License query

Hi I have just upgraded to Leopard and want to buy / install IWorks.
I have only the one Mac but 3 user accounts on that mac.
I want to understand if I buy a SINGLE license can I install on my MAC and ALL users can use the applications or do I ahve to buy the family pack? Please help!

There is no limit upon the number of users of the single machine.
It's logical because it would be really difficult to be several using the machine together and user's accounts are not reserved to different human beeings. I have several user's account on my machine and I am the unique user.
+I wish to add that I wrote about the iWork's license. I don't know the one ruling iWorks which as far as I know was never distributed or even announced+

Transfer Leopard License

Hi,
I wiped, erased and reinstalled Leopard on my iMac so I can give it to my niece as I just purchased a new Macbook Pro. When I installed Leopard, I put her name as the owner with her address etc. Everything loaded fine but I'm not getting the rest of the software updates for Leopard; eg. 10.5.8 etc. I want it to do auto-updates as it will be easy for her. Do I have to transfer my license over to her. It's being used on the same computer and only one computer. If so, how do I go about doing that?

There is no recorded license for OS X that requires transfer. Here's what you should do;
Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities (Installer menu if using Panther or Jaguar) menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.
