Leopard mail.app jpg attachments not viewable

Some PDF and Jpg attachment are not viewable in the message and a blue cube with white question marks appear in both sending, sent and received emails. This is a new phenomenon which started last week.

I have solved the problem on my mac:
1- Save the attachment to the Desktop.
2- Press CMD+I in the file
3- Change the "Open With" option to another app.
4- Change the "Open With" option to the desired app (Preview to Imagens antd PDF's...)
5- Choose "Change All"
6- Press OK.
Now i can see the images and PDF's on my mail's body.

  • Mail with jpg attachments not sending

I've tried repeatedly sending jpg photos in Mail, but they are never successfully sent.  The Send icon keeps spinning and spinning and never stops.  I end up having to go into the Outbox and deleting the message, then doing a Force Quit Mail before I can reopen Mail.  This is something new since updating to Lion.

    Hmm  that sounds convenient.
Maybe try Attachment tamer, a Mail plug-in, and see if you can tweek a work around.  A few bugs in Mail.

  • How can I automatically open Mail.app message attachments after downloading

The subject says it all, I think.
    My wish #1
Automatically Opening Mail.app message attachments after downloading
    My Wish #2
At least having the Finder automatically default to the folder I just downloaded to after completing the download.
Is this an option in Leopard, at least?

Very clever. But unfortunately that doesn't seem to work in Tiger.
Then again, I stil presume that when you do that, a ile is still downloaded and appears somewhere on your hard drive. If you "save as" the file opened by preview, you probably still need to go back to the place where the file was saved and delete it.
Then again again, if Preview is peeking into a Word or Excel attachment, it may not actually be "downloading it" first?? Strange. If it was a jpg file attachment, on the other hand, it seems more likely that some sort of file would be downloaded to the hard drive as a result of that drag and drop of the paper clip.
I did find that drag and drop capability interesting, though. Even in Tiger.
Oh well. I have to start looking at scripts.
When I downloaded that Automator application that was supposed to "close all open applications", I was surprised that it didn't work. Says it works with TIger. ???
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/
Was I supposed to import it into Automator as an "action" and save it as an Automator application and then open Automator and click "run" for that action each time I wanted to use it? Seams a bit cumbersome.

I also forgot to note that this problem also persists with the new iBooks application. I cannot get past the 'Get Started' screen or access the iBooks Store. Again, all top bar menus are unresponsive.

I have verified permissions via Disk Utility, but that hasnt helped.
    Any ideas?

I have fixed it! All I did was to select "replace all information in iPhone from Maill" and worked.

  • Mail app window does not open, mail won't send

Ever since my upgrade to 10.7, my mail app has not opened a window (although the app opens). I can manually open a window from File/New Viewer Window. I also have to force quit the mail app, it will not close from Mail/Quit Mail. Also, it cannot send mail. I have been hoping 10.8 upgrade would solve, but no luck.

  • Mail app closes when not used for a while how fix?

mail app closes when not used for a while how fix?

This may also be due to the Sudden Termination feature built into OS X, which will effectively quit a process if the system is demanding resources. Mail can be a RAM hog at times, and if your system only has a few GB of RAM, then when other programs demand more and you have not been using Mail then the system will invoke Sudden Termination to quit it so more RAM is available elsewhere.
Do you have only ~2-4GB of RAM in your system? Check for this in the About This Mac option in the Apple menu, and if so then consider upgrading to more if your system supports it. Alternatively you can try quitting other applications to free up more RAM.
To see which programs are using the most RAM, open the Activity Monitor utility and choose My Processes from the drop-down menu. Then ensure Real Memory is checked in the View > Columns menu, and click this menu's title to sort the items by it.
Keep in mind that sudden termination does not fully quit the program, so Mail may still show up in Activity Monitor when you open it even though it may be closed from the Dock.

  • Mail.app and attachments

Since the uppgrade from Tiger to Leopard I have had issuess with attachments using IMAP and Exchange as the backend. Most attachments are either reported as almost zero length and have the wrong file name for example:
A file that is named "plan.doc" is interpreted as "plan.doc " with a white space. Saving the file and changing the name back to "plan.doc" it's unreadable by Word. The only information in the file seems to be the MIME header. Real example:
    Content-Type: application/msword;
    name*=US-ASCII''MOM%5FCAB%5F080929.doc%0D%0A
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Most likely this is due to some miss interpretation in Mail.app of MIME encoding. It might also be that some MIME encoded e-mails aren't fully RFC compliant maybe M$ clients.
This is very annoying since everytime this happens I have to start Thunderbird so I can download the attachment.
PS. It's about time Mail.app get Subscribe support in IMAP and bring out of the 90's.

    Hi ben.
This could be caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Mail.app- 'Remove Attachments' corrupting mails

I have a weird issue that I've not seen mentioned anywhere. Wondering if anyone can give me any debugging tips.
I'm using Mail 5.0 in Lion 10.6.1 (issue was occurring in 10.6.0 as well).
I have Mail connected to Exchange Server 2010.
I have a fairly tight restriction on mailbox sizes so I have to remove attachments from emails before I file them.
My problem is this; about 1 in 3 times I remove an attachment the 'replacement' e-mail is full of gibberish characters.
Typically if I look at the raw source of the e-mail then the text version of the mail is retained correctly- it seems to be the Base64 encoded version that is corrupted.
Any idea what I can do to debug this? I have tried removing the envelope files and removing/adding the account back in and re-syncing it but the issue has reappeared.
I've reported this to Apple on http://bugreports.apple.com but have not had a response.
    Thanks in advance.

Edward- do you mean Entourage mailbox or Exchange mailbox? i.e. are you using mail.app or Entourage/outlook as your mail client?
    Assuming you meant Exchange mailbox on mail.app, the steps you would take are simple;
    1- Save attachments
In the mail, click the 'Save' button (next to the 'Quicklook' button) to save all attachments to your normal folder (this folder is changeable in the settings- the default is to save to your 'Downloads' folder).
2- Move the mail to a local mailbox.
If you don't already have a local mailbox then select Menu: Mailbox/New Mailbox... and in the dialog box select 'On my Mac' to save the mailbox locally instead of on the Exchange server.
To move the message you select menu: Message/Move to... and select the local mailbox
    3- Remove attachments
View the local mailbox, select the message you moved in there and do menu: Message/Remove Attachhments
(I have added a keyboard shortcut for this as I do it a lot)
Because it's a local mailbox the message should be stripped of its attachments without corruption.
    4- File the message
Now that the message has been stripped of the attachments, file the message in whatever mailbox you want with menu: Message/Move to...
    Hope this helps.

  • Best iPad mail app for attachments

I'll be picking up the new iPad Air in the next few days and am wondering what email app I should use for attachements. My work uses a Gmail hosted email service, and I'm a Gmail user myself, so ideally it would have multi-account support.
In my work I use the usual mix of .doc, .xls and .pdf documents. From what I understand the default Mail app is not suitable for (multiple) attachments. I'm a big Dropbox user if that makes a difference.
I hear good things abou the Mailbox app (by Dropbox) and the Gmail app by Google themselves.
    Any suggestions?

I love the recently launched iPad app Cannonball. https://itunes.apple.com/app/cannonball-email/id701582906
You can search for just attachments as well as sort email into various cataegories as you would with snail mail. So subscriptions, financial, travel etc all get sorted and allow you to peruse through as you need them.
It got great reviews as well - http://mashable.com/2013/10/22/cannonball-app/

  • Leopard Mail App needs repair!

I'm told Apple is very aware of this problem. Program is configured correctly but won't send mail. Yesterday, SMTP server wouldn't recognize my e-mail address and today the SMTP address is not recognized (two different locations). RR tech rep at national desk states I'll have to wait until I get home and check to see if the app works properly in my home area.
I just took delivery last week of the new MBP Penryn and, regrettibly I didn't attempt to send any mail before I left home. Mail app receives mail fine. Apparently a number of people using Leopard are having similar problems.
    Apple: We need a fix!
    Joe

IF the server does not recognize port 25 then it is a server issue not a Mail issue. It certainly is not an Apple issue if you can't make a simple SMTP connection when millions of others can. Get with your tech support people for whatever ISP you are using and they will have to help you. Something is wrong in your settings somewhere.
Of course if you supplied more information like who the ISP is and how you have things configured it might be easier to help.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Iphone mail app for hotmail not working

    Hi,
i have the iphone 4s and have been using the mail app to connect with my hotmail account. in the past it has never been a problem but over the last few days it has not been recognising my password or verifying the account. i have deleted the account and re-installed it...did not work, i have logged onto the account using a p c and it seems to be fine, i am able to log into my gmail account but hotmail it has a problem with. any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Logging in to an email account via webmail access using a browser is not the same as connecting with the incoming mail server for an email account with an email client.
You need to contact Microsoft regarding this problem especially since there is no problem accessing your Gmail account with the iPhone's Mail app.

  • Snow Leopard mail.app problem

I just upgraded 2 iMacs at home with Snow leopard and am having a problem with mail.app. I have 13 e-mail accounts on my box, and my wife has 6 e-mail accounts on her Mac. We have never had problems with e-mail before and Leopard and Tiger would go through the POP accounts in order, 4 at a time, until all the mail was downloaded in all the accounts.
What is happening now is that the mail.app is trying to get ALL the mail at once and trying to access all 13 POP accounts on my Mac, and all 6 on my wife's. It will only grab the first 4 POP accounts and show errors for the rest (and take them offline). I get the "*Unable To Receive Mail - There may be a problem with the mail server or network...*" error for the remaining accounts. The only way I can get the rest of the mail is to go through each account, control-left click, and select "Get New Mail from "[email protected]". Needless to say, this is a real pain in the butt as I do get a lot of mail and prefer it to come in properly in the background.
This is happening on both iMacs so it can't be an isolated thing. Anyone know of a fix for this??

I'm having the exact same issue. I've spent hours rebuilding mailboxes, passwords, and keys. I can often go days before the mail will actually be seen in these offline boxes. Apple - we need this fixed!
