Leopard NAT downloads hanging at random intervals?

Hey guys,
Tried upgrading to Leopard Server 10.5.2 for the first time today, with mixed results. Our office has computers that are given 192.168 addresses from DHCP on Leopard Server, and we use NAT+Firewall on Leopard Server to route traffic to the internet. Nothing fancy.
The new problem: downloads hanging at random intervals.
Things cruise just fine at first, but at some point -- sometimes at 4 MB, sometimes 20 MB, sometimes 200 MB -- transfers completely hang, and data would stop transferring.
Not just web data -- I had a number of remote SSH sessions simply freeze in the middle of typing.
This is using stock NAT and stock Firewall and stock DHCP.
Anyone else seen this, or is it just me?

This is happening to me as well. All web traffic will stall for about 20 seconds then startup again. It's really starting to get annoying. Can't find anything in the logs - the server is barely being taxed at all for disk/proc/network. I can't figure it out but my coworkers are starting to get ****** that ever 10 minutes the network goes out then back on.
I can still hit the machine internally via SS or Server Admin or SSH. Its happening on the external interface.
Anyone else seeing this?

  • Itunes is stuttering -starts and stops at random intervals

    Hi there-
I have a 5yr old emac. I am running OSX 10.4.8 and itunes 7.02. I have not had any problems for 5 years,
Today my itunes started stuttering - it starts and stops at random intervals and it takes forever to start playing again, to shuffle songs, etc... I restarted and it did not help.
Can you advise me on what I could do next?
    Thanks so much,
    Kathleen in Minneapolis

    Kathleen ~
It's possible it could be one of several or combination of many things. I'll list the potential problems, and ways to determine if you have the problem.
First off, restart and do not run any other applications when you run iTunes, and don't run any applications after iTunes is playing music? Does the problem go away? If so, you may not have enough physical RAM installed on your computer for uninterrupted playback. You can find out how much RAM you have installed by clicking on the blue apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen and selecting "About this Mac". The "Memory" line wil display how much physical RAM you have installed. If it is less than 512MB, you should consider getting more.
My second assumption is that you state you have had the computer for 5 years, it is posible that the hard drive (HD) is getting low on available space. Adding music, email, pictures, downloads, etc. over time erodes away at the available space on your HD. Typically on this vintage computer it likes to have at least 20% of HD free space to work relatively efficiently (this will vary based upon how large your HD is to begin with).
To find out how much HD space you have available, click on your HD icon on your desktop once, then press and hold the CMD (open Apple) key and press the "i" key. You will see two statistics, "Capacity:" and "Available:". If the amount of available space is less than 20% of your total HD space you may want to consider removing things from you HD, acchiving things, or optimizing you HD.
How often you repair permissions? I recommend at least once a month, and it's relatively easy and a quick thing to do. Go to your Applications->Utilities folder on your HD. There is an application called "Disk Utility", double click it. Select your HD volume in the upper left corner, then click the button "Repair Disk Permissions". Depending upon how many programs you have loaded this could take several minutes, be patient. When finished, if it fixed any permissions, run it again! Yep, twice, just to be certain, it can never hurt.
Also, while you're in that application, and done with repairing permissions, click the "Verify Disk" button. This may also take several minutes. When done it should report if it thinks your drive is ok, or not. If not, you need to repair it, and in order to do so, you need to boot from another drive (either another physical or logical drive), so that you can attempt to repair it.
If you have the purchased utilities such as Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro you can repair disk and directory problems, which could also be causing your problems. A free utility, such as Tiger Cache Cleaner has some utilities to clean caches, and run your nightly, weekly, and monthly processes that may also need to be run.

  • Internet drops at random intervals, applications freeze. Lots of info!

Ok, so my laptop has been on its last legs for a while now, always something.  Recently, the fan stopped working so I have to diligently make sure it doesn't overheat.  I was playing an online video game 2 days ago when it overheated and crashed
(forced shut off to de-powered state to prevent damage, not a bluescreen).  When I brought it back up, I started having some really bad problems.  The game I was playing wouldn't start citing "Memory at address 063eaff0 could not be written"
After deleting the whole game and restarting the computer I got it re-installed, it works fine now, that's resolved, I guess.
I think this crash broke something though, because now my internet keeps cutting out at random intervals, and Chrome keeps freezing.  The Chrome freezes actually almost always predict an internet drop.
So I booted into HP's system diagnostics and ran a memory test, it says I passed. Ran a full scan, hard disk passed, processor passed, WLAN passed, PCI Devices pass, battery pass, . Basically everything is passing but I can't actually complete a full
scan because it takes 2 hours and apparently is really using my system to its max ability, which is making it critically overheat and shut off.
So I booted into a recovery CD to see if maybe a system file was corrupted during a power loss crash, but apparently I am mis-remembering how recovery CD's work and my only options are to restore to factory default or restore to an earlier point, not to just
re-install all the necessary system files.
Next step was wait for one of the outages and run windows network "Troubleshoot Problems" tool, it did it's thing and actually, miraculously, gave me some sort of real problem other than "Check that you're connected to the internet".
What it told me was: "Your computer is trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist."
My Chrome no connection error code is "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET"
Please don't read this last line and tell me to change my DNS server with no further explanation.
There are other computers in the house, and they are connected to the same wifi, and are having zero problems. Also DNS issues do not explain my chrome actually freezing.
Also, we're using google's DNS servers.
Attached is a rar with all the diagnostics I could get my hands on, and here is a contents list as well.

    Hi AmantisAsoko,
Is the machine a laptop or a desktop?
For the overheat issue ,we may need to clear the dust of the machine to make the fan work correctly .If it is a laptop ,we may need to add an external fan to freeze the machine .
For the network issue ,have you configured any proxy server ?Have you configured the Tcp/Ip address manually ?
We can take the following step to have a troubleshoot .
1.Search "services.msc" and ensure "‘DHCP Client’ and ‘DNS Client’" are running .
2.Open a command line as an administrator and run "ipconfig /registerdns"
3.Run the following command line to reset the Tcp/Ip stack.
ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)
    Reboot
4.We can run "nslookup"to check the present dns information
For more information ,here is a link for reference :
    Using NSlookup.exe
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/200525
"Also DNS issues do not explain my chrome actually freezing"
To verify whether the issue is caused by the specific brwoser ,we can try to use the other browser like Internet Explorer to have a check.
    Best regards

  • Firefox crashes when idle (viewing) on mjpeg streams at seemingly random intervals.

When viewing a page with multiple embedded mjpeg streams, firefox randomly crashes. Sometimes it can sit for hours on the page, other times it will crash much sooner. It hasn't made it 24 hours ever.

I am having the exact same problem. Identical symptoms. I have tried everything suggested. Clean install, reset, running without plugins, checked virus killer, checked firewall, checked for malware and viruses, nothing. This problem only started after upgrading to Firefox version 22. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Please look into this problem. After searching the internet quite extensively I can tell you that it doesn't appear to be a new problem. The pages will stop loading or rather they are loading but nothing actually appears, at random intervals. Sometimes it can go hours before a problem sometimes minutes or seconds. The only way to get webpages to load again is to kill firefox (including in the task manager) and restart. The program hangs in the task manager as if it has crashed.

  • Mail is still loosing attachments at random intervals. Sometimes the attachments arrive and sometimes they do not. Has anyone worked out a solution to this yet?

Mail is still loosing attachments at random intervals. Sometimes the attachments arrive and sometimes they do not. Has anyone worked out a solution to this yet?

As with all posts thus far, I have a sporadic loss of attachments. I can tell when this occurs, as the file size clearly shows an attachment should be present, but the "attachments" column fails to recognize an attached file. Unlike some of the suggested fixes, I cannot use "quick look attachments" or "save attachments" to get around the problem. Rather, I must log into my Outlook Web Access for Enterprise Messaging to see and download attachments. This greatly diminishes the advantages of using a program like Mail.
Not only does loss of attachments occur sporadically, with no consistency as to sender, attachment type, file size, etc..., it also can change on a given message with attachments suddenly appearing and, more troublesome, others suddenly disappearing even if they were previously opened!
Because of mailbox size restrictions through my employer, I download most messages to my hard drive. However, if I download a message that has a 'missing' attachment, it becomes lost forever. I can see, again by file size, that an attachment should be there, but can obviously no longer access the attachment using the web interface.
This problem doesn't seem to be as bad on my iPhone 3G. In fact, I can sometimes force an attachment to 'appear' on my computer by opening the attachment through Mail on my iPhone. Again, not a very appealing fix to an annoying bug. It would be great if a fix for this bug were to come soon...

  • IPhone 3GS Problem/Touch Controls no longer respond after random intervals

    Hi all,
I need some answers regarding my iPhone 3GS 32gig, which was working perfectly until about a month ago, after I upgraded to firmware v3.1.
The touch screen 'locks up' i.e. it won't accept any input via the screen and seems to happen at random intervals, but the app continues to run. If I leave it long enough, it'll accept input again after a minute or two, otherwise, I hit the sleep button and then the home button to wake it, and it obeys my commands again. But only until the next time. It can occur using ANY app but really ***** when I'm de-stressing with a good game of Space Invaders Infinity Gene.
I've tried all sorts of things to correct the issue based on what I've read on the web, foremost, restoring the iPhone from a backup. That didn't help. I had about 500meg of free space left and thought maybe it needs more than that to function perfectly, so I deleted a lot of games and apps (mostly lite versions) and freed up enough space so that 1 gig was left available. Still no help. Tried restoring again, still no change.
When the 3.1.2 update came out, I hoped it would fix it. Alas, no.
Push notifications are turned off for my Mobile Me account, and for all the other apps that allow push notifications. I'm with Optus, not that that would make a difference (?).
Given that apps run one at-a-time, I can't believe any single app could be causing this behaviour, and I don't like the idea of trying to find out what that app might be if it is by copying them individually back to the iPhone just to see when the problem comes back again.
Oh yeah, and I've not jail broken my iPhone. Seriously.
Can anyone make any other suggestions? I imagine resetting all settings from the Settings screen will delete my progress on Space Invaders Infinity Gene, so I'd rather not if I can help it.
    Thanks in advance!
    - Alex

Not that it helps, but a me too here.
It randomly seems to stop responding for a while.
I often find I cant skip tracks in the music player etc.
This is a brand new stock phone, upgraded to 3.1.
Sleeping and turning on again seems to fix it, or waiting for ages

  • ITunes 11.1.2 unexpectedly quits at random intervals

Ever since I updated iTunes to the latest version (11.1.2), it has taken to suddenly quitting mid-song at random intervals for no discernable reason. Since iTunes is probably the piece of Mac software I use more than any other, this is rather hair-raising and I am becoming concerned that my iTunes library may be damaged if this continues. Here is the latest crash log - I would really appreciate any insights or information anyone can offer into the apparent bug

Can't help you on the engine thingy but "random crashing" is not usually caused by After Effects. In my experience, nothing in AE is ever random, including crashes; everyting has a root cause. Far more likely to be caused by the source media in the project, access issues to that source media, or OS problems.

  • BSOD occurs at random intervals

I installed Windows 10 on my HP Elitebook 8560p on top on my new Samsung EVO 840 1TB SSD over the weekend and have experience nothing but BSOD at random intervals.
Here is the most recent .dmp file:

I believe its related to the Network drivers.  I updated the LAN and WLAN to the latest drivers but still experienced weirdness.  With WLAN off as soon as I opened up IE, it would blue screen.  With LAN off and on WLAN it would blue screen
less frequently but still do it.  Can anyone shed any further light on the dump file?
Like most people I cant do without my laptop so for stability I've gone back to Windows 8.1.  Would love to hear what you guys think.

It appears that the behavior of verifier has changed in win 10 (9926).  Because 9926 does not yet have "kernel symbols" for it and the fact that verifier is giving you grief makes diagnosing this difficult. After some extensive analysis it
appears that they are Related to NETwew00.sys Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Driver from Intel Corporation causing NDU.SYS to fail.
I would remove the current driver and install the newest driver available.

  • Stops Reading at Random Intervals

    hello,
we wrote a program for our hot plate and for some reason it will suddenly stop reading at random intervals and give a result of 0's for heating and stirring. we're not sure why this is? is it a hardware problem or a visa read/buffer problem?
    thanks

  • Airplay Mirroring stops at random intervals whether being used or not

    Hi,
Using an iPad mini recently bought running iOS 7.1 and connecting to an Apple TV to mirror the browser to a TV.
At random intervals the stream disconnects. The intervals are no longer than 30 minutes and not less than 10 minutes over a period of 2 hours.  Not tested more than that.
It seems like something is asserting priority over the Airplay stream but that could be any number of things.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

My wi if connection Hangs at random and the iPad then needs to be restarted for it to reconnect!
Has anyone had a problem like this or know a solution.?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • IOS 8 messages app hangs at random

It's a new iPhone 6, pre-installed with the latest and greatest iOS. The messages app appears to crash or hang at random, and I have to use the "double-click the home button, kill the app" approach to get it working again.
Anything specific I can check for?

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. If that does not correct the issue, after killing the app as you refer to it, then create a backup of your device and restore from the backup. If that doesn't do it, then restore as new, not from a backup.

Key board hangs up randomly with 8155B controller while running the application.

    Roopal,
This question has too much parameters. In order to help you out, I need to know more information. For example:
    1) Is this a new issue? Has your keyboard worked fine before?
    2) Is you keyboard hanging up when you run a specific application? Does it hang up at boot up?
    3) What operating system are you running?
