Leopard Not connecting to Windows XP

Having a real problem connecting my macbook via ethernet through a router to my windows XP computer. Windows XP can see my mac, and I can browse my files, and sometimes my mac can see the Windows XP box in the finder, along with various other computers on the network: but it cannot connect to any of them. I click connect as, and it does nothing apart fro telling me it is connecting, and then 5 minutes later it says Connection Failed. File sharing is enabled on both computers, I have tried connect via SMB, ftp etc using my mac's IP address from the Windows Computer, and vice versa using my Mac IP address. They are both set up using DHCP. I cannot see why this is not working, as they were working fine only a week ago. All went wrong when i unplugged my macbook from the ethernet connection. Anyone got any ideas? Thank you in advance.

James, I feel you pain. I too have the same problem, however, my network(ethernet) has a total of 5 computers. One of which is a macbookpro. I can see all of the computers except one. When I try to connect, I get the "connecting to......" and nothing happens as well. Other computers are "visible" and available to connect to. I am new to the Mac and literally have had no problems setting up everything except for this one issue. I am researching other settings for the computer which will not connect, and looking for any differences. Maybe firewall setttings, maybe something in my Norton application. I will keep looking at this post to see if anyone has ideas and or suggestions. One other question for you as a fellow Mac and Xp user...Do you see your Mac on the Windows network places? I do not. Look forward to the forum helping out soon!

  • IPhone 4S not connecting to Windows XP Pro

My iPhone 4S is not connecting to Windows XP Pro. I've already tried restarting my Apple USB Driver but it still will not connect. Any suggestions?

After plugging it into my computer for roughly the 173rd time in the space of 6 hours it randomly opened itunes installed 3 drivers and started working.
For future reference, what in gods name just happened?

  • Ipod is not connect to windows or itunes but it still shows up on ipod

    Welcome to the discussions,
try again to reset by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up again. If still no luck, restore "as new ipod"

why doesnt my 5th gen ipod nano not connect with windows 8?

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • ITouch not connecting to windows or itunes, and will not charge.

Okay, so, I was charging my iTouch one day in my computer, and every time I plug it in, iTunes launches and then starts to automatically sync my iTouch, which I DO NOT WANT. Anyways, I quit the sync from itunes as I always do, but this time, when I tried to quit, nothing happened and itunes froze up. 1 Ctrl+Alt+Dlt later, I tried to end the program, it was being pesky so I had to try and end it a few times. My iTouch finished charging and I hane not thought anything of it since then. The day after that, I was trying to charge my iTouch before work, and I went to get ready while it was charging. I came back to an iTouch that was not charged at all. It does not connect to Windows or iTunes, but still for some reason retains enough battery to display the battery symbol. I have used the iTunes helper to try and guide me through the problem, but the steps I took did not fix the problem and I do not feel like taking my iTouch in to get serviced. So, in overview, my iTouch will not charge, connect to windows or iTunes, all after I ended iTunes from the task manager. My iTunes works just fine, my iTouch is the problem. I dont know what operating system it is running on, and I dont know how to update it, but it is at least 4.3.1.
P.S. I would love to get some speedy help on this. If its any reward, you have many internets up for grabs for answering my question. Over 9000 ^_^

    - Try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try placing the iPOd in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

ipad will not connect to windows cpu

If you are still having problems after all those tips I would suggest trying another cable the one you have may be faulty. An iPhone cable is fine for sync, but wouldn't suggest it for charging. Other than that call apple support, log a problem, and most likely they will help you book a appointment at an apple store.
I use a win7 64x machine and have no problems so I doubt windows is your issue.
    Good luck.

  • Ipod nano does not connect to Windows and itunes

    Dear All
in my family we have 3 ipods: a shuffle, a ipod 20gb and a nano. While the first 2 are easily connecting to windows and itunes, the nano doesn't and does not recognise the USB port of my laptop[message 'unkwnon device']. I have tried, I think, most of the suggestion I found on the apple support and in the forum. Does somebody know any 'special' tip, my son is really getting frustrated by this situation because he can't get the same music. Please help. Thanks in advance
    ciao

    Hello franbat,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your son's iPod nano.  I found an article with steps to address this:

  • Wyse Thin client not connecting to Windows 2008 R2 server

    Configuration
    SBS 2011 Server
Windows 2008 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services installed, License Manager installed.
WYSE WT3125SE thin clients with Windows CE 5
I setup the Windows 2008 with Remote Desktop Services and was able to successfully connect the Thin client.   Then I installed the License Manger and applied my Open license using User Cals.  Was able to login.  Next day I get the following
error-"Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer.  Verify that you are logged onto the network and then try connecting again"    I still can connect fine from other machines even Windows Home Ed.
I remove license server and still was unable to connect.   Built a second Windows 2008 R2 server with RDS on it.  Was able to connect without issue.   Pointed it to the first RDS server license manager and have still been able to connect with
the Thin Client.   The thin client can rdp to the SBS server without issue in admin mode, can connect to RDS2 server but not RDS1 with the license manger.    So my issue is with the license and so my question is what is it with the license server
running on that server that is keeping thin client from connecting.  I even did a reload of RDS1 and tested connecting throughout the process and it worked up until I applied the license and then it stops. And then if I uninstall the license, rds, remove
from domain still not able to connect.  Any help would be appreciated.

We had the same problem with older terminals after cloning a 2008R2 rds server and sysprep it.
The original rds server worked fine but when the old terminals connect to the new 1 they come up with the error : Because
of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer.  Verify that you are logged onto the network and then try connecting again"
After reading all of the postings about this issue and tried the reactivate solution of the license server,
I was sure that it had something to do with the x509 certificates that are generated the first time you connect to a valid license server.
What I did, I installed a new license server activate it but did not install licenses on it.
I pointed the defective rds server to the newly installed license server and deleted the following registry keys:
               HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM
    Certificate
    X509 Certificate
    X509 Certificate ID
    X509 Certificate2
    Then reboot.
After the reboot all old terminals can connect fine again. As final step I pointed the rds server to the same license server as the other ones,
    reboot and all worked fine.
So conclusion is that when you pont a rds server to a license server that has the new type of licenses on it it will generate the wrong x509 certificates
that are not supported by the older clients, by pointing it first to 1 without any rds calls on it, it generates the older x509 certificates which are compatible with the older rdp clients then the switch to new license server will then not regenerate the
x509 certs so it keeps working.
    I hope this helps someone
This issue was driving me crazy so very happy that it is resolved now
    Cheers Frits

  • Mac OS X 10.6.3 v1.1 not connect to Windows 7

I am trying to transfer files from the Windows 7 system to the Mac OS X system. I have tried everything from the following sites and I am not able to get it to work:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1812
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1549
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1568
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8201.html
Why am I not able to get this to work and how do I fix it.

I also remembered a trick that worked for me on my home network (Windows 7, 10.6.3). I renamed the Windows 7 WokGroup name to a custom name. Then on my 10.6.3 machine I went into System Preferences->Network, Advanced button, WINS tab and put in the new WORKGROUP name and in the box bellow I added the Windows 7 IP. After about 5 minutes the Windows 7 appeared in my Finder's sidebar and I could connect using my Windows login name & password. However it would disappear upon ejecting the mounted share but I could still Command+K to it.
On the windows 7 I am not using the Windows 7 "HomeGroup" but an only doing simple file sharing.
Plus read this Apple thread and try some of the hints there.

  • Safari not connecting on Windows 7 - good net connection

I apologize if this was addressed before.  I looked through the forum and did not see anything about it.  I have updated at least 5 systems to Safari 5.1 (PC and Mac) and all have gone fine except one Windows machine.  Since updating this machine a few days ago I cannot use Safari to connect to the internet.  The browser opens fine, recognizes if it is not the default browser, and spins as though it is contacting the server, but never loads the page.  There is a problem with Safari, Webkit2WebProcess.exe, and this PC.  To save all the basic suggestions here is what I have done:
    1. Emptied the Cache
    2. Reset Safari
    3. Deleted Safari
    4. Re-installed Safari
    5. Deleted and Re-installed all Apple software on system (Itunes, Bonjour, Safari, etc.)
    6. Deleted Firefox, Safari, Apple Apps, updated everything, installed Safari
    7. Turned off Windows Firewall
    8. Added Safari to list of approved programs in Firewall
    9. uninstalled flash
Obviously none of this worked.  The net connection is good.  Firefox, Chrome, IE, etc. all work fine.  Safari and now iTunes cannot seem to use the connection though.  Even more interesting, now when I launch Safari 5.1 on this PC the CPU jumps to 100% usage.  Safari and Webkit2WebProcess.exe split the processing power 50/50, then just hang there.  I have let it run for hours just to be sure and the programs never get any further along.
Any ideas why Webkit2Webprocess.exe and Safari are such processing hogs on this system and never advance further than launch?  Any ideas what I can do to resolve this issue?
    Thanks Dennis

I have the Same problem i did try every thing , IE, chrome and firefox are working fine, safari and iTunes are not connecting to the internet

  • Not Connecting To Windows Mobile Device Center

I want to be able to connect with a Windows Mobile Device through Windows Mobile Device Center, within a Virtual Machine.  When connecting through the Hyper-V Manager and through Remote Desktop, under "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices",
I can see the Symbol USB Sync Cradle.  In the VM, in Device Manager, I don't see a USB connection.  In the VM, I don't see any meaningful errors in the Event Viewer.
Host:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Hyper-V on a Domain.  Upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro.  When this computer was originally installed with Windows 8 Pro, Hyper-V was enabled.  I removed Hyper-V, and installed VMWare Player, because I wanted
USB Pass-through.  I then uninstalled VMWare and installed VirtualBox.  Recently, I uninstalled VirtualBox, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and enabled Hyper-V.
Virtual Machine OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 on a Workgroup.  Started out with being a VMWare VM, using VMWare Player.  Moved to VirtualBox.  USB Pass-through was working in both those virtual environments.  Used Disk2VHD to convert the
    VM to a VHDX file.
    On the Host:
Windows Mobile Device Center is connected to a Motorola Windows Mobile Device (MC959X) sitting in a Symbol USB Cradle.  The OS on the scanner is Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 Classic CE OS 5.2.29217 (Build 29217.5.3.12.26).  Advanced Networking
(USB to PC) is not enabled.
    Enabled RemoteFX.
In the RDP file, and in the Registry, added the GUID's for:
    WPD "{eec5ad98-8080-425f-922a-dabf3de3f69a}";
    Windows Mobile "{6AC27878-A6FA-4155-BA85-F98F491D4F33}";
    USB Device "{88BAE032-5A81-49f0-BC3D-A4FF138216D6}";
    Windows CE USB Device "{25dbce51-6c8f-4a72-8a6d-b54c2b4fc835}";
    GUID_DEVINTERFACE_USB_DEVICE "{A5DCBF10-6530-11D2-901F-00C04FB951ED}"
    Ran "sfc /scannow"
    All Microsoft Updates are current.
    What am I missing?

Thank you for your efforts. I have followed those instructions, but I am still not all the way there yet.
Now, on the Guest, in the Device Manager, under Mobile Devices, I see the Symbol USB Sync.  But Windows Mobile Device Center still does not connect.

    Anyway...
Have a Look at these Links and see if Anything throws any Light on your issue...

    AMDS for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
And just in case... First... Try a Reset of the phone...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
    Turn the Phone On...
    Now Connect to your Computer

But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.
