Leopard - now no sound from my Powerbook G4

I've found the same symptons:
TiBook G4 15" DVI
System upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.8
"sound starts getting crackly, and then it fades out. It's not just music either, YouTube videos, games, any audio, even system audio"
I've discarded these causes:
1.- Hardware problem: The same hardware sounds OK when booting using MacOS 9.x
2.- PRAM/NVRAM. Booting on 9.x works fine, rebooting on 10.5.8 without PRAM reset gives bad audo again.
And I've found a very strange workaround: If you make CPU usage go 100%, sound is fine again.
To reproduce:
1.- Open an audio file using your favourite player. You will get bad sound.
2. - From a terminal window, open a program which will use all available CPU time. I've used this:
gzip -9c < /dev/zero > /dev/null
I can reproduce this behaviour all the time, so I'm afraid there is a bug in 10.5.8 (which probably only affects Powerbook G4).

p+v ram reset didn't do the trick..
checked the console and found this, being prompted every 1 min. or so:
