Leopard on iBook 600 MHz PowerPC G3

Is it possible to run a iBook 600 MHz PowerPC G3 with 640 MB SDRAM with Leopard??? And if so, because some of you jokers will say yes, how do I do it???
Cheers,
Johan

That would be better taken up on a different web site, since detailing ways around Apple's installer restrictions are iffy per the terms of the Discussions. If you search the web for something like "leopard install unsupported", you'll come across a number of pages of discussion about the issue.

i have Mac OS X 10.4.11 with 600 mhz PowerPC G3 how do i get Flash Player 10.3.183.20 (65.7 MB) power pc processor?

Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. However, this Flash version won't work for many videos on Facebook, YouTube and other sites. Adobe's latest version, 10.2.x or later, is only for Intel Macs. Adobe will not provide a newer Flash version for PPC Macs.
The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to Flash Player requiring an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I found a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • 600 MHz PowerPC G3 with iPhone and iTunes

I have an old 600 MHz PowerPC g3 but cannot install the new iTunes so that I can sync my new iPhone. What can I do to upgrade my OS. Or any other better ideas. Thank you for any help you can offer!

Look on your iPhone's box or in the manual for a list of system requirements:
    *Mac system requirements*
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
iTunes 8.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
However, I'm sort of confused because there is no 600 MHz G3 or G4 PPC Mac, so I'm not sure what to tell you in terms of whether you can actually run 10.4.11 or higher on your computer.

    Hi,
Is there any way at all that my 700 MHz iBook G3 will run 10.5? Thank you!

No. Sorry. Not even all Macs with G4 processors will run Leopard. No G3 processor is up to the task.

  • Connecting ibook 500 Mhz running Tiger 10.4.4 to Power MacIntosh 9500/132

I had a cable plugged into the side of my ibook (500-MHz PowerPC G3 processor) in the slot <...> and then into my Power MacIntosh 9500/132 in its slot <...>
I then selected chooser in the apple menu and could access files and software from each machine, allowing me to operate between the two macs to put together my community newsletter.
I upgraded my ibook which now runs Tiger 10.4.4( which is great) but I can no longer connect to my Power Macintosh which has all my software for the newsletter.
    Can any one help.
    Thank you

I'm not familiar with the Power Mac 9500. Is that in
    OS 9?
If it is, have you retained OS 9 boot capability on
the iBook? If so, you may have to use it. If not, you
may have to put it back on.
Which OS were you using on the iBook before you
    upgraded to 10.4.4?
You may get some better ideas if you post in the
    forum for pre-G3 desktops:

My Power Macintosh 9500/132 uses Mac OS 9.
My iBook original came with MAC OS 9.0.4, and MAC OS 10.0.1, when I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.4 the classic environment disappearred.
I still have my MAC OS 9 discs, but if I reinstall them won't I loose everything I have installed with MAC OS 10.4.4?

  • How to reinstall bootable system 9 in a iBook G3/900 900 MHz PowerPC 750fx

Hi all, I have two machines bootable with OSX and OS9
PowerPC G4/1.25 DP (Mirrored Drive Doors) dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC 7455 (G4)
    and
    iBook G3/900 900 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
I have some MACOS9 software which just doesn't work in classic mode with any OSX
I got the system disks stolen while travelling. Any Panther or Tiger will install easily in the OSXC partitions I have, the machines, there is some kind of soft lock preventing the regular OS9 system Software disks to install in the OS9 parts of the my drives- So I am now unable to reinstal and booth from system 9.
I tried it all partioning the HD, leaving it as is .... but nothing happens. As soon as I insert any System 9 install disk the computer rejects it telling me is not for that machine, and booting from CD is not happening either with a similar message.
I am unable to locate reploacement disks anywhere and Apple here in Taiwan is silent on this matter, what to do?
    Thanks

You need the Restore CD's that came with the iBook.
If you are unable to obtain them from Apple there, you may need to call Apple Customer Relations in California and see if they can send you the CD's. If they have them available, they usually will send them to you (for a fee).
The number there is (408) 996-1010. Call between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and be sure to ask for Customer Relations.
Once you have the CD's, a link to the procedure can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

    Good luck.

What is the latest OS I can put on my iBook?  Mine has OS X 10.3.9.  It is 600 MHZ Power PC G3.  It won't connect to my home wifi, so I need a later OS.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I wouldn't mess around with a measly 128 MB upgrade (assuming that's what you have now). Instead of merely doubling the RAM, maximize it with a 512 MB module.

  • Ibook 500 mhz upgraded to 700 mhz

I've upgraded my ibook 500 mhz to a 700 mhz by switching the logic board. Everything seemed to be working well, unfortunately now I can install any new system software on it. Everytime I try to install either OS 9 or OS X from different CD's, an installer error occurs. With one CD the screen changes with coloured lines through it, other cd's give me installer errors. Has anyone ever heard of something like this before?
    Thanks.

The fact that the two models have different methods for resetting the PMU should have been a clue to you that this would not work. I'm afraid you are going to have to try something different.
The logic board for the 500 MHz model can be found at PowerBook Tech. If you talk to Daniel there, he may be able to tell you which other model will work. (I believe you could use the 600 MHz model and have it work okay, too, but he will know for certain.) He may be willing to swap boards with you.
    Good luck.

  • Upgrade from 10.2 to 10.4 on iMac G3 600 MHz ? OS install disk ejects.

I am trying to help my friend with this one. I gave her my old iMac G3 600 MHz. it has 384 MB memory and currently has Mac OS 10.2.8 which I had installed previously. Now she has a new iPod nano and so the iMac needs the OS system upgraded to be able to use the iPod. I have the install discs for Mac OS 10.4 from an iMac G5 however when I simply put the install disk(s) into the drive slot, after about 20 seconds or so it ejects. Do I need a different install disk?? Cause I don't think I have another 10.4 disk anywhere. I really want her to be able to use her iPod Nano on her iMac! If I can do something on the iMac to be able to upgrade it I would really appreciate any suggestions or help. Thank you.

Thank you. I might try that with the iMac G4 I am using right now.
    Are there any other suggestions??
This is random, but I have an extra iMac G4 which has been unused for a while. if I could get Tiger onto it, does anybody think it would be worth it to let her use the G4 instead and go through with transferring all her data? I guess what I'm asking if I get this iMac G4 to work would there be a significant difference running Tiger on it compared to the iMac G3 she already has?
I hope I've made sense. I really want my friend to have a decent computer with Tiger on it so she can use her iPod Nano.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Can I install Tiger in a Dual 500 MHz PowerPC G4?

Can I install Tiger in a Dual 500 MHz PowerPC G4, or is it better to stick with 10.3.9? I'm having some problems so I was going to wipe he hard drive and re-build everything from scratch o I was wondering if migrating to OS X 10.4.9 is worthwhile or even compatible with this PCU. Thanks.

Yes you can run 10.4 on your dual 500, I have a dual 450 (I overclocked it to 550...) and it runs pretty fast. You need a minimum 192 MB of RAM to install it and a minimum 128 MB of RAM to run it. I would suggest having at least 512 MB of RAM when running 10.4.
What problems are you experiencing? If it's just lagging and seeming slow it may just be worthwhile to clean some temp files and clean up your disk. IMHO, 10.4 is a much better system than 10.3, and runs much smoother. I can guarantee you that your system will run much smoother if you wipe the disk clean and put a fresh install of 10.4 on there, and also get a decent amount of RAM in there. After I upgraded my RAM to 1.5 GB, I noticed a substantial difference in speed, and got a lot less spinning color wheels. But one thing that you need to always keep in mind is to KEEP YOUR DISK CLEAN!!! Clean the temp files often and limit your internet downloading. If you keep your computer on all of the time, restart it every once in a while. There's a lot of little things you can do to increase speed in OS 10.4. Use spotlight and recent applications. Fill up your dock. Don't clutter the desktop, etc. There's plenty of articles on the net to help increase speed without adding anything else to your system, just navigating through the OS differently.

  • 600 MHz iMac Snow, OS problem

I bought a 600 MHz iMac Snow on ebay, and I'm having some issues. Its running OS 10.1.5. I used the single user mode to try to reset the admin password, and now I get stuck at the "create your account" screen. Beachball just spins and spins. I booted from the OS 9 install disk, although I didn't really know what I was doing. The disk utility there thinks the disk is fine. I have no OS 10 install disks. I can pretty easily obtain Tiger or maybe Panther, a retail copy. But to install that, as I understand, I may need to update the firmware. I think I need to boot into OS 9 to do that. So, for questions:
    1. Anybody know how to fix the being stuck on the "create an account" page?
    2. Can I boot from the install disk to update the firmware if #1 can't be fixed?
    3. I have the OS 9 software install disk for this machine, too, is there a web browser on there so I can at least download the firmware upgrade?
    Help!

    1. Anybody know how to fix the being stuck on the "create an account" page?
There are things you could try but if you don't know what the status of the firmware is I wouldn't try them.
    2. Can I boot from the install disk to update the firmware if #1 can't be fixed?
    Yes see below next question.
    3. I have the OS 9 software install disk for this machine, too, is there a web >browser on there so I can at least download the firmware upgrade?
Yes if you install OS 9 you can use Internet Explorer to download the firmware upgrade. It's in the folder "Applications (OS 9)". I prefer iCab for OS 9 however but you'll probably not be in 9 very long.
BTW I feel that the most stable version of OS X is 10.3.2 upgraded to 10.3.9.
Good luck with your "new" Snow. My son has one and has watched hundreds of episodes of "That 70's Show" on it as well as DVDs.

  • I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.

Unfortunately I managed to uninstall Adobe but now can't seem to reinstall as this an older computer and is not compatible with the new versions. Windows or apple it makes no difference, if you don't have the install discs you can't install.
Did you buy the machine with Adobe (you don't say what adobe program you're talking about) installed? If so the vendor should have given you the discs or else it's technically a pirated copy. If you're talking about acrobat (which is free) then you should be able to find older versions on the adobe site.
