Leopard on MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz

I've two MacBook Pros, both of the 1.83 Core Duo models that I'm putting up on eBay. I've cleaned software off of both, but have Leopard 10.5 running on both. Should I retrofit to the OS that shipped with them or let them go with Leopard on them? I've also upgraded RAM on one and both have 250MB drives. I want to do the right thing.

I think you are required by the Apple User Agreement to include the original disks that came with the MBPs when you sell them (Tiger OS, I think because the 1.83 MBP discontinued in Dec. 2006).
If you leave the Leopard OS on them you would be giving them an unauthorized version of the Leopard OS, unless you also included your retail version DVD of Leopard you used to install it, in your sell price. Then you would need to also be selling your Leopard DVD and you would need to include that with the MBP.
Because you have two computers and probably only one Leopard DVD, you could only do that for one of the buyers (unless perhaps, one person bought both, but unlikely).
I agree with Allan, reinstall Tiger on both and include their original disks with the computers.

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo"  My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

  • Unable to load Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz with 1 GB Ram running 10.5.8). Bought two copies of Snow Leopard. Easily installed on my MacPro 2x2.26 Quad-Core). I have tried both copies on the MacBook, it only runs the drive for awhile and spits out the disk. Have tried to hold down "C" while restarting to no avail. Anyone have any ideas.
    cheers,

    1. You should be able to install using [firewire target disk mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661] the "conventional" way if both of your Macs properly equipped (I am sure they are--see link) and
    2. You should be able install using an image file of your DVD either while in firewire target disk mode or from a bootable external drive. Put the file on the other computer if doing the first and on the external if doing the second. To make an image file, use another computer, and
    a. Insert the DVD/CD;
    b. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    c. from the DU File menu select New Disk Image from Disk 1;
    d. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save.

  • How to install upgrade snow leopard in macbook pro?

I bought a macbook pro 2011 2.2 ghz quad core i7 and would like to install snow leopard in one partition to run older software. I had the full version of os leopard, but can't install in the new macbook pro to upgrade to snow leopard. I can't upgrade snow leopard in my power G5 either because it needs intel cpu. Is there away to upgrade leopard to snow leopard in macbook pro 2011? I have not bought the snow leopard upgrade yet. Thank for your help.

See the bottom of this user tip to determine if Snow Leopard can be installed on your MacBook Pro:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
If it can, you'll need to find out the version of Snow Leopard installer that was available at the time that machine was released based on the age of the machine.
    Snow Leopard releases are here:
    10.6.6 on January 6, 2011
    10.6.7 on May 4, 2011
    10.6.8 on June 23, 2011

  • I have a Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). Will Lion, Mountain Lion or Marverick makes it run faster or slower?

I have a Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). Will Lion, Mountain Lion or Marverick makes it run faster or slower?

Snow Leopard is still the most efficient OSX from Apple.  I have a late 2011 MBP running Lion with no performance issues.
I suggest the following;  Install 8 GB RAM if you do not have that already.  (The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial).  The newer OSX's are trifle more RAM hungry.
Partition your HDD and install one of the newer OSX's in the new partition and try it out.  This allows you to 'retreat' to Snow Leoprad if you find the newer OSX is not to your liking.
Also note that the newer OSX's do not support PPC applications.  That means that there is a possibility that some of your current applications will not work and may have to be updated or replaced.
    Ciao.

I have the same trouble, I try installing rEFI but when I try start my Pro from DVD doesn't recognize.

I have original DVD of SL 10.6.3, if I buy the latest stable version, can I install? or the EFI firmware with Lion change again?
I try to use Lion, more than one week but I can't, and some app that I use for my profession, doesn't work, I really need downgrade to SL.

  • MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz incredibly slow

I'm having a chronic problem with this MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5. (I'm running Mac OS X 10.9.5, with 4GB of RAM.)
It can take 15 seconds to open a Safari tab; it can take a few minutes to launch Mail. Sometimes I even type faster than the machine can keep up with. Rebooting will help -- but not for that long.
In the Activity Monitor, nothing seems to be sucking CPU (and the fan rarely runs). In the Memory tab of the Monitor, I see this:
    Physical Memory: 4.00 GB
    Memory Used: 3.99 GB
    Virtual Memory: 6.69 GB
    Swap Used: 2.8 MB
    App Memory: 1.94 GB
    File Cache: 227.3 MB
    Wired Memory: 706.2 MB
    Compressed 1.11 GB

  • I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Hello all,
I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running 10.4.8. When I go to burn a DVD I get one of two codes 0X8002006D, 0X80020022, why is that a 3,000 CPU cant burn a DVD. My Mac is total up to date with all software and firmware. I saw in the Discussions that I'm not the first person to have this issue but I don't see an answer from Apple, I'm pretty sure it not the DVDs (Memorex DVD-R 16X) because my ****** pc can burn them and it was a 100 pack that I used about 50 from it that I burn on both Macs and the ****** PC. I also have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.4.8 which is also unable to burn them and it also comes up with the same errors. I have not had this issue until I updated my Macs to 10.4.8, PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks,
    Coons

Yes I can play CDs and DVDs but I was not able to burn a 4.01GB folder, I have since decreased the folder size to 3.75 and was able to burn the DVD. I'm creating another just to double check, my G5 was unable to complete the task and I also gave a shot at a 2.77GB folder and it failed I also gave a 200Mb file a chance but it still did not burn. I was able to burn the same 200MB file on a CD, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

System preferences and the dock isn't set up to start safari. Can't figure out why this is happening. Had reloaded system from scratch and noticed this happening lately.

Remove iAntiVirus, then reboot, see if it's better.

  • Cannot install snow leopard in macbook pro early 2011. disk is rejected. what do I do?

Unable to install snow leopard in macbook pro early 2011. When I put in the disk, the computer does not accept it. What can I do?

    lord1908,
some Early 2011 MacBook Pros originally came with Snow Leopard installed, and some originally came with Lion installed. If yours originally came with Snow Leopard installed, then you should be able to install Snow Leopard from its model-specific grey Mac OS X Install DVD. (The white retail Snow Leopard DVD can’t be used with it; it was made for use with earlier models, which originally came with either Tiger or Leopard installed.) If yours originally came with Lion installed, then it won’t accept any Snow Leopard DVD; instead, you’d be able to use OS X Internet Recovery to download and install its original version of Lion from Apple’s servers.
