Leopard on my macbook, will it run as well as tiger?

i have a 1.83GHz intel core 2 duo macbook with 512 ram. can anyone tell me if upgrading to leopard when it comes out will make my mac run slower or would it even run faster?
i am most worried i don't have enough ram to really support leopard.

I would say either runs similar or will be slower compare to Tiger.
My macbook is so slow with its standard 512mb using tiger, and I almost decided to go back to eMac G4 with 2 Gb ram using 10.3.9. And with Leopard is more sophisticated and have a lot more feature (some of them are running at the background) it will use more processor and memory resources.
So Troy Enn is right on the money, and it also a good time for you to overhoul your macbook with more memory (2 x 1 GB).
Good Luck.

  • MacBook will it run...

    Hello,
Soon I may be buying a MacBook, but what I want to know, will it run Photoshop, Aperture and FCE OK. When I say OK, I mean smoothly...
I would be buying the 2.4 GHz Black or White Model...
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes but since the MacBook uses Intel's integrated video, you'll find that FCE stutters a bit. (I always transfer my video to a FireWire drive first before editing and seem to have less stuttering than many other people report.) If you are shooting in RAW you'll find Aperture to be very slow - in fact, I was so amazed at how slow RAW files are on a MacBook that I now recommend the MBP to photographers who do a significant amount of RAW shooting. Photoshop is just fine.

  • Beta 4 ver 6 installed on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.4 will not run, will not delete, cannot reinstall any other version of mozilla, also mozilla help is useless and too confusing, is there not just a simple email address to ask for help?

Firefox tries to run, mac says name too long. It will run only when mounted but will not run from Applications. It refuses to delete and stays in trash, must use combinations of DropNuke2 and Trash to get it to delete I think! Then when trying to put any other version of Firefox in Applications, Finder states name already exists then refuses to move the Firefox application to APplications! Never had problems with Firefox until installed the stupid beta 4 ver 6!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
    Here's the fix:
    (1) log in as the +root user+
    (2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
    (3) log out the +root user+
    (4) log in your account
    (5) done!
Hope this thread will help those who encounter the same problem as me!

  • How do I install Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro currently running Lion?

A friend is having trouble running older apps in Lion on his new Macbook Pro and wants to revert to Snow Leopard. Any suggestions or cautionary tales appreciated. Thanks.

New MBPs require a version of Snow Leopard that you cannot purchase. If it did not come pre-installed on the computer then installing Snow Leopard is a bit of a chore.
First off he will need a computer that can boot from a retail Snow Leopard DVD (10.6.3.) Second off he will need a 16 GB USB flash drive or a free partition on a USB hard drive that is at least 16 GBs in size. The basic process is:
Using a computer that can boot from a retail Snow Leopard DVD you install 10.6.3 onto the spare drive. Download and install the 10.6.8 Combo update. Create a new partition on the MBP. Boot the MBP from the 10.6.8 USB drive then clone the system to the new partition on the MBP.
I will be glad to provide more detail if needed.

  • Installed Leopard and now MacBook can not run on battery

I installed Leopard and now if it is disconnected from the power it will shut down immediately. It worked fine before.. How do I fix?

You might try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and/or PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory). Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM?

  • MacBook will not run PowerPC apps anymore

Recently, I have noticed that none of my PowerPC applications want to start up. I started noticing this after I tried downloading the latest quicktime updater. The updater downloaded, but could not install. Before the updater was installed, I had Quicktime using Flip4Mac by turning on Rosetta for installer, installing Flip4Mac, turning off Rosetta for installer, and then turning on Rosetta for QT. Everything went smooth, WMVs played great, but then QT wouldn't start after I downloaded the QT updater. I had to turn off Rosetta for QT, and since then no PPC apps will work, and QT will not play WMVs. How do I get PPC apps to work again?? Thank you, I appreciate any help!

Thanks for the replies. When I mean PPC apps don't work, I mean, nothing, Google Earth, Limewire, Word, Powerpoint, etc. Only Intel based apps work. Sorry I wasn't so thorough about explaining my problem, it was late and I was frustrated. I also forgot to mention that I have Boot Camp running with XP. This might be a separate issue, but I tried switching to it two nights ago, and XP would not start up. Anyway, I tried Disk Utility, and it did not fix it, but I did not restart either, So, I'll try that. Again thanks for the help and the quick replies!

  • MacBook will not run without being plugged in.

First off, I've updated everything I can find! I've reset the SMC and read through and did anything that looked like it might help. Here's the problem... I can't turn on my MacBook without the power adapter being plugged in, if it is running and I unplug it turns off. When I press the button on the battery to see if it is fully charged it is missing one dot, yet the plug light is green and not amber. On my screen it shows battery power is at 87% and it has the little plug icon in the battery, so it's not charging my battery. I am scared that when the battery drains my laptop wont work since it is slowly draining (was at 100% when the problem started a few days ago). This really is a big inconvience because I am chained to the power adapter and since it is magnetic I accidentally unplug it when I am not at a desk or table. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know! Help!

Haha i know i was just kidding about the apple joke, its only because i am one of the first purchasers of the iPhone and they only gave us $100 back instead of $200, but o well... this problem is getting even weirder, now my battery isn't recognized in mac os x, and i've tried all the trouble shooting methods. i'm taking this in saturday to the apple store. i'm starting to believe that its a battery issue, which is why i was only able to work off power since the new firmware. luckily its still in warranty and they'll issue me a new battery. who knows, maybe the firmware short circuited my battery?

  • Can I partion my drive on macbook pro 10.5.8 to add snow leopard and not affect my leopard?  I'd like to run apps on snow leopard which cannot be run on leopard.

I'd like to add snow leopard to my macbook pro which runs leopard 10.5.8 in order to run apps.  I do not want to mess with my original system and risk losing data.  Is that possible by just going to utilities and partioniong my drive?

15 is probably enough.  And if you kept your home dir in a separate volume then you could use your same home dir on both leopard and snow leopard.  This is one of the reasons I recommend keeping the home dir on a separate volume.  Very convenient for switching OS's or needing to use a (backup) copy of the current OS.

  • White Macbook (mid 2006) Runs loud and very hot,  battery not charging

I know my Macbook is getting a bit old now, but I don't think the way it is running is very normal.
The battery will say that it is fully charged, but it will only last about half an hour when disconnected from the charger. The light on the charger will not come on either, or it will blink when i attach it, then stay out.
My Macbook will also run very loudly, and hot. I don't ever run too many programs at once, so I know that it's not a strain on the system from what I can tell.
I tried resetting the SMC since it sounded like the problems I am having would be solved by resetting it.
Are there any known problems such as these, or fixes? Thanks.

  • Battery shows as having charge in System Profiler yet will not run from bat

My MacBook is about a year and half old. My battery just started doing this a few days ago. It shows as not charging. Checking the battery shows that it has 85% power left (this was 86% the day it started). The magsafe connector stays green. The MacBook will not run without the power connected.
I am not sure if this is an issue with the battery, the batteries connector, or with my MacBook. I'm pretty tight fro cash right now and need my MacBook working. I don't have money to throw at parts I don't need. If anyone has experienced this issue before and has any insight please let me know. I'm a starving web programmer and I need to be able to bring my MacBook with me to meet with clients.
    Thanks,

Do you think it is software. It will not even boot when the power is not connected. I was thinking it was a problems with ACPI in the EFI BIOS. The strange thing is just a moment ago the magsafe went orange and the power states calculating. This is the first time I've seen the magsafe orange since this started four days ago. I came back to this thread to update it with this little tidbit and saw your reply.

  • Quicken will not run

After updating to the Snow Leopard, my Quicken program will not run. HELP!!!

    True.
Quicken is coded as PPC code.
In order for Intel Macs to execute PPC code they use Rosetta.
    Lion does not have Rosetta.
    So Lion can't execute Quicken.
    It is that simply.
Migrate to an application that is coded for Intel.

  • MACBOOK WON'T RUN OFF BATTERY

My MacBook will not run off the battery.
I replaced the battery. Now when the machine boots the battery icon indicates that it is calculating for a few minutes and then displays an X in the icon.
I click on the icon at get the message that NO BATTERIES AVAILABLE.
The battery is charged and I have reset the SMC.
From all of the disussion groups this appears to be a common problem.
    IS THERE A SOLUTION?

    Hello leighdk,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can by all means take some good advise from the people on this board in response to you problem.
But here is the best advise, especially since you're new to Mac.
Call Apple Care or take it back to the store and have them check it out. It is under warranty. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the Mac for a completely different or give it back because you do not like it. they may try to charge you a restocking fee but this should not be the case since there is an issue with you machine.
Call Apple, see what they say... Then if you can't get it resolved then post back and maybe we can give you some sound advise.

  • I have a Macbook which is running Snow Leopard. I back up using time machine to an external drive. If I purchase a new Apple Macbook pro running Lion if I use the backup to this will I be able to use Leopard on the new computer

I have a Macbook running Snow Leopard which I back up to an external drive using time machine.  If I purchase a new MacBook pro and transfer backup from time maching to MacBook Pro will it also transfer Snow Leopard as its is my preferred O.S.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If the new computer did not originally ship with Snow Leopard installed, no, you will not be able to go back from Lion. Snow Leopard lacks the necessary drivers required for newer hardware.

  • I have a MacBook that is running 10.5.8 and I cannot update it to Snow leopard

I have a MacBook that is running 10.5.8 and meets the tech specs for Snow Lepoard.  I am attempting to upgrade to SL using a "Mac OS X Install DVD version 10.6.3".  However, when attempting to run the installer from the disc I recieve an error stating "This Mac cannot be upgraded to this version of OS X."  No further information is given nor are there any buttons or clicks to recieve additional info.  I receive the same error whether I'm running the installer when the Mac is already running or when holding down the C key as the computer starts up.
Does anyone know why this issue is occurring or how to resolve it?
    Thanks

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

I have Time Machine that I used to back up my old computer. It was running snow leopard. My MacBook died, so I got a new one which is running Lion.  how can I restore the data from the time capsule to my new Mac?

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.
