Leopard Question: Classic Support?

Hello!
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I have a question about Leopard. Will it support Classic on PowerPC Macs? I'm currently running a few Classic apps on my PowerBook G4. I checked the website but it says nothing about Classic. If it doesn't, how can I remove Classic & all of my Classic apps in order to free up that disk space? I do have a copy of Basillisk II I could use in order to run my few classsic apps if I have to.
Thanks!
Nate

Alas, my PowerBook doesn't support OS9 booting. I bought the last PowerBook revision they made (which is nice because mine is newer, but unfortunately no OS9 booting for me). After looking through my Classic apps there's only one I really need, so I've notified the company & see if they'll carbonize it & port it to OS X. They also have a PC version of it which I can use for now. I've just decided to give Classic the boot completely (not even mess with Basillisk on my Mac as I've used it on Windows & rather not go that route). Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Classic Support in Tiger and Leopard

    Hi,
    I have a PowerMac G5 (PowerMac 7,2 XB35028YNVB) and would like to know if it's possible to install OS9 Classic support for this system.
    I currently have Tiger 10.4.10 that was installed from a retail cd. It did not come with the system and did not come with classic installed. (Ebay special :-S )
    I want to know if I can get the original cds sent to me, or if a retail OS9 cd will suffice.
    Also, if the retail cd will do the trick with Tiger, will it also work for Leopard (I'll be upgrading soon)
    Many thanks

  • New iMac G5 but no classic support in Tiger?

    I have just bought a new iMac G5 20" with the latest Tiger 10.4x. When I want to install a peripheral or Quark from my old Os 9.2.2 it say "I do not have a version of Mac Os9 installed that supports classic or later." in the pop up window. I hit the ? button and it tells me to install from disc 2 the support files. When I do that it tells me there is nothing to install.
    A greyed out icon appears in the menu bar. A widget appears in the widget bar.
    I checked the startup disk to see if mac os9 was on it ,it's not.
    Do I have a dud install 2 disk? The icon is only an alias for os9 support files.

    What constitutes "compatibility" is partly what you mean by the word.
    From Tiger's built-in dictionary:
    "• (of a computer, a piece of software, or other device) able to be used with a specified piece of equipment or software without special adaptation or modification"
    By this definition, all recent Macs (except servers?) up to but not including the Intel-based ones are compatible with Classic, at least to the extent that installing the included Classic support is not considered a "special adaptation."
    I think most people would consider something like SheepShaver quite a special adaptation: from what I can tell, it requires both an image of the PowerMac ROM & a copy of the Mac OS, which I presume are not included with Intel-based Macs. I also note it claims only to offer a "varying degree of functionality" with listed systems, among them "Darwin/ppc," but no specific reference to Darwin + Intel support. The only Intel CPU reference I see is to "Linux/ia32 (AKA x86)" so I'm not sure this emulator really should or could be considered a replacement for Classic in OS X/Intel systems, even in a limited way.
    If you know otherwise, I'm sure that info would be of great interest to readers of this thread.

  • Questions about supporting TLF with Halo components in Flex 4.1

    We recently decided to upgrade to the Flex 4.1 SDK after a year or so at 3.2.  We have been asked to not use the new SPARK components yet because our products would then have a mistmatch of Halo and Spark components in the UI.  We have built support for our Halo components to display html through the ".htmlText" property for the Text components.  For example, we can display strings such as "<p>Choose <b>one</b> option:</p>".  With the upgrade to Flex 4.1 a couple of questions about supporting bi-directional text have come up.  My understanding is that in order to support bi-directional text we need to use the Text Layout Framework.  Does anyone have a suggestion on how we can utilize the TLF with the Halo components in Flex 4.1?    Can we still use the ".htmlText" property somehow or is there a new property that understands the TextFormat markup?  We would love to still be able to use the limited html tags that are supported for the "htmlText" property.  Is there an option where that syntax is still understood?
    Thanks in advance!
    David

    The halo components use TextField, and the spark components use TLF. Both sets have support for some html markup to import and export text. To use bidi text, you have to use TLF; TextField won't work properly.
    It is possible to use TLF to build your own components, and this can work well particularly for applications with specialized needs. But if you need bidi support for advanced components like DataGrid and List, then you should use the spark components.
    Thanks!

  • Interview question for support engineer

    interview question for support engineer ....please can i get this sir..need to interview for apple as support engineer...thank you

    Hi Fritz,
    Let us address the problem one by one.
    1. You might need to change the source structure to :
    -root 1..1
    --Value 1..unbounded
    Please note root and Value are the names given by me you can use any names as per your wish. But we cannot have the source as you specified, will this source be ok for you?
    2. Give File content conversion parameter
    recordset name = Vale
    Value.endSeparator 'nl'
    By doing this there will be a Value node created when the source file has a newline character
    3. In message mapping create two UDF
    *UDF1 (Simple ?UDF with input field named *input )
    for (int i=0;i<input.length;i++)
       output += input<i>;
    return output
    *UDF2 (Simple UDF with input field named input)*
    int i = 1;
    String [] value = new String[112];
    while (input.indexOf(";") != -1)
    String counter = "";
    Integer i_int = new Integer (i);
    if (i<10)
        counter = "00"+ i_int.toString();
    else if (i>9 && i<100)
         counter = "0"+ i_int.toString();
    else counter = i_int.toString();
    if (input.startsWith(counter)) {
      value<i> = input.substring(3, input.indexOf(";"));
      if (input.indexOf(";") != -1 )
         input = input.substring(input.indexOf(";")+1);
    else
      value <i> = "";
    i++;
    int j;
    GlobalContainer globalContainer = container.getGlobalContainer();
    globalContainer.setParameter("Output", value);
    Now do a mapping like this
    Value (context root)--> UDF1 > UDF2> target root node (ie Bewsatz)
    By this step you set all the values in global container named Output
    3. Now for each target  field call this UDF
    *UDF3 (Simple UDF with input field named pos)*
    GlobalContainer globalContainer = container.getGlobalContainer();
    String[] Value = (String[] )globalContainer.getParameter("Output");;
    String outvalue;
    if (Value != null) {
    outvalue = Value(pos) ;
    return outvalue;
    Call this UDF for each output field with positions like 1, 2, 3, ...111
    Please try this

  • Does 6120 classic support TV out from the AV 2.5-m...

    Since there is a outlet called "AV connector" on the Nokia 6120 classic, is it possible to use the Nokia AV cable "CA-75U", an accessory of N95, to output video footages to TV ? I would Love to purchase the CA-75U if it has this function. Thanks for any advices.

    Korngear, I beg to differ: the 6220 classic supports TV out and has a 2.5mm AV out, the cable comes with the box.
    As for the 6120c however, there is NO TV out support, as Psychomania said, the hardware to output video is missing.

  • 2 Leopard questions

    Hey, I have 2 Leopard questions...
    1. How does Time Machine restore deleted files when they are cleaned off your computer. Are the files not fully deleted off the HD?
    2. When Leopard comes out, will I be able to migrate all my settings/files over to Leopard from Tiger?
    Thanks a lot!

    Asking about an OS that isn't out, complete, still in development, and... anyone that actually knows is under NDA.
    Right now some features are probably just bullet points in a iWork presentation.

    Does ipod classic support HD tv shows?   When I try to sync a HD TV show, I get a message saying that my device does not support this type of video.  Any suggestions?

    It would seem the error message should have given you the answer already. The iPod classic does not support HD.

  • Loading 9.2 onto Panther w/classic support

    Anyone Know the procedure for loading the 9.2 power book system disk onto a pismo w 10.3 panther (W/classic support) already in place. I erred in trying this before. I overrode the 10.3 by trying to reinstall 9.2. I need to know if I can do this because I'm out of system 10.3 disks. Thanks to anyone who can help or direct to info on this. John

    John, welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Just boot using the OS 9.x install CD. Your current Panther system software is located in a folder named System. When you install OS 9, it will be in a folder named System Folder. The installation of OS 9 will not affect or override the Panther system. If you wnat to be able to boot into OS 9 (rather than run OS 9 in classic mode), you must have the OS 9 drivers installed on your hard drive. You can check to see if the drivers are installed by looking at the About this Mac>More Info>Hardware>ATA.
    What OS 9 CD are you using? A retail version - white with an orange 9?
    What was your previous problem in installing OS 9?
     Cheers, Tom

  • Problem installing Classic Support on Tiger

    I'm trying to install Classic support on my iBook. The install appears to complete. It says it did anyway.
    When I double click on a classic app I get this error:
    "The Operation could not be completed.
    An unexpected error occurred (error code -1)."
    There also seems to be no preference panel for Classic like there should be.
    I'm thinking that the install actually did not complete but I can't figure out why.
    I saw this in the install.log file when I tried installing it but I don't know if it is relevent:
    "Package Authoring Error: Infinite loop between <choice> attributes and mixed state aborted."
    I tried repairing permissions but it didn't appear to do anything.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Problem Installing Classic support in Mac OS X v.10.2.3

    Hello!
    Sorry for my poor english.
    I got a PowerBook G4 (15 inch)
    And Mac OS X v. 10.2.3 installed on it.
    Some program tells me that it needs Classic enabled to start.
    Then I go to System Preferences to Classic
    And there's a messsage
    "There is no volume with a system folder that supports starting Clssic"
    I were confused. I did reinstall all the system to split the hard drive in two partitions. But that doesn't help me.
    After this. I search the internet for the solution.
    According to this article
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh763.html
    I should insert "Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test" disk, but i haven't got anything like this.
    I've got:
    Apple Hardware Test (PowerBook G4) Disk
    and
    PowerBook G4 15 inch Software install and Restore Disk
    I deside to insert "Software install and Restore" disk. There is a package "Install Applications and Mac OS 9". I run it. It installs the Restore utility. After that, restore utility autorun. I tell that i wish to restore Mac OS 9, and after a while the programm tells me, that "there's an error type number 45 on copying".
    After this, i'm decided to copy whole inserted disk to PowerBook as an .dmg file and try to install from it. Copy process done successeful, no read errors. But the installation process ask me "PLease insert the disk market like this" and picture of the part of the disk with two circles, exactly i have on the "Install Applications and Mac OS 9" Disk.
    So, what should i do to enable that Classic Support on my Mac OS X v.10.2.3
    And more of it. What is the message
    "There is no volume with a system folder that supports starting Clssic"
    and what is System Folder and is there any way to make it somehow?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Thanks a lot!
    Last 10 days was my first deep intrusion into Mac OS intrails...
    About disks i have, yes, it's original disks. There's no scratchs or dust on them. The copied fine in IBM PC, disk to disk, with no errors. How i tell before, there's a problem that restore application tells me that tehre's an "error type number 45 on copy". And i can't solve exactly this problem.
    Also, I found another one solution in internet. Sorry, this solution is in russian, but i will try to traslate it later
    http://www.mikeosx.com/faq/faq.html#Anchor-49575
    This solution tells:
    1 step:
    Start install you Mac OS X from install disk
    2 step
    Split you hard drive into two partitions with Disk Utility application before you will procide to install, And don't forget to set "OS 9 Drives" (or something like this)
    3 step
    After installation was complete. Restart you'r Mac.
    Insert disk marked "Repair" (or something like this) than go to "/Volumes/iBook Restore CD/.images"
    "iBook Restore CD" you should change to whatever you disk is labeled.
    In that folder (directory) you will notice file OS9General.dmg
    Mount this disk image
    4 step
    Open your empty partition (not the one you installed Mac OS X)
    Select all the files on mounted OS9General.dmg and copy them to empty partition.
    Thank You "eww" ones more, for your suggestions. I hope that i will win this round "Me vs Mac"

  • Can't seem to re-install Classic support

    I have been preparing an old PowerMac G4 to give to a friend.   I erased the hard-drive and did a clean install of Tiger, and updated it.   I'm now trying to re-install Classic support (so I can occasionally go to her house and run one of my OS9 apps, since I can't seem to find Chubby Bunny to get classic support on my new/old Intel machine :-(
    I thought all that was necessary was to copy an OS9 System Folder onto the hard-drive.   (I actually made a small separate partition when I erased the hard-drive, although I doubt this was necessary).   I copied the System Folder from a "Mac OS9 Install" CD that was in the original set of discs that came when I bought an older G4 new.   I think the discs are probably OSX 10.1, but the OS9 disc seems to be 9.2
    Anyhow, when I try to fire up Classic mode, I get a message somehting like "this system software can only run on the original media, not if it is copied to another drive".     I assume it's referring to the fact that I have copied the System Folder from the CD to my hard-drive.   And if I leave the OS9 CD in the drive and point Classic to it (which would be a poor long-term solution), it complains that it needs to update the Classic resources and the volume is un-writable.   Kind of a catch-22.
    The weird thing is, I successfully did this once before, when I bought (used) this same G4.
    Thanks.
    P.S.  Please let me know if I should put this in the OSX Tiger forum instead.

    RustyQShackleford wrote:
    But when I went to do the OS9 install, it could only find the root partition where I have 10.4.11 installed.  It could not find the other partition of the my main HDD (where I'd hoped to put OS9), nor could it find the smaller HDD at all.   It refused to install it on the root partition anyhow, without doing a clean install and nuking OSX.
    Evidently the problem was that I didn't check "install OS9 drivers" when I formatted the smaller HDD - even though it said "this will not affect Classic".   So I re-formatted it and checked that, and now it allowed me to install OS9.2 on it, and now Classic works fine.   It still refused to recognize the smaller partition of my main HDD, which is where I really wanted to install it.
    Thanks all.

  • Leopard does not support reading/writing to SD card via network?

    I have a Pixma MX700. I can read and write to SD cards using the card reader built into this machine ... IF I use Windows XP. Leopard will mount the card and allow me to view it contents but the minute I try to import a file to my iMac, I get error code 1401.
    I've been told by Canon support that the new MP Navigator EX driver for Leopard disables reading from the memory card over a network. They claim Leopard does not support this function and reading the posts from others having the same issue using different multi-function printers, this would appear to be a Leopard issue, not a Canon issue.
    Can anyone confirm this and/or offer a fix?
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to allow classic support in Mavericks?

    I have an iMac that has been running OS X 10.6.8 for a while, but I just updated to OS X Mavericks (10.9.2). I also have an iMac G5 install disc with OS X 10.4.2, that came with another disc that installs OS 9.2 (for Classic Support). I am wondering if it is possible to support the Classic environment (OS 9.2) with Mavericks?

    No, it requires a PPC processor and OS X up to. 10.4.11.
