Leopard Retail Disk No Longer Recognized By Laptop After Installation

Today, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Leopard OS X 10.5 using a retail disk. After successfully completing that installation, I kept the disk in the machine in order to try to move forward with a Boot Camp installation. However, the laptop stopped being able to recognize the disk at all. It whirrs three times, trying to read the disk, then it ejects the disk and won't mount. This occurs regardless of whether I am on the Mac side or the Windows side of my newly partitioned machine.
The disk will, however, load on my other Mac (a G5 tower), which is still running 10.4.11, as an installation disk. But every time I try to load it on the laptop, it does its little whirring thing and then refuses to see the disk.
Any thoughts on why the machine would be able to see it prior to the installation but not after? This is a particularly thorny issue for me because I am in the middle of a Boot Camp installation as well, and REALLY need to get ahold of those Boot Camp drivers for Windows so conveniently located solely on the Leopard disk (by the way, if those drivers are available to download somewhere -- I could burn a CD using my other machine -- I would muchly appreciate someone posting a link).
Thank you!

Hi, try booting in safe mode to see if the disk will install. If so, while your there repair your disk with firs aid, it will be in the menu when the languages show up. You can safely delete most languages knowing only a reinstall will get them back, printer drives as well, I only chose mine. It save much space. If I get a new printer I only have to install the drive.
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
Be sure the computer is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Try this and post back with results. I can offer more potential solutions.

  • How many Installs Can I do from a Snow Leopard Retail Disk?

I have an old Snow Leopard Retail Disk (10.6.3) that I used a few years ago. Our Macs have mostly been upgraded to Lion since then, but we still have a 2007 iMac running Leopard and want to run some legacy third-party software. We need to upgrade that iMac from Leopard to Snow Leopard, then upgrade via system update to 10.6.8 in order to run the legacy software.
I know we used this Snow Leopard retail disk to upgrade one computer to Snow Leopard already, and we might have used the disk to install Snow Leopard on an external hard drive as well but I'm not sure as it was a few years ago and that hard drive may have been archived and placed in storage.
My question is, is there a limited number of installs that we can do with this disk? Do we need to first uninstall Snow Leopard from one computer before we can install it on another?

Unlike Windows, the DVD or CD versions of the Mac OS (Snow Leopard or earlier) have no serial number, or even keep track of how many times you've installed it. It's all on the honor system of following the license you have, which as mende1 noted, is either a single computer license, or five in one household (not shared with friends or relatives).
Lion and Mountain Lion are a bit different. Macs that came with either OS have a machine specific version (for the necessary hardware drivers) and cannot be shared, other than with a 100% identical Mac. The App Store versions are intended for Macs that were released before the respective OS's, and contain only the hardware drivers for the Mac models they are listed to support.

  • Missing Boot Camp Assistant on Leopard Retail disk

I updated (erase and install) my PowerMac G5 with Leopard retail disk (purchased on 16 Nov 2007 in Apple Store-Toronto) and can't locate the Boot Camp assistant in the expected Utilities folder.
I have tried the Go to Folder mentioned in a similar thread, but the retail disk has a different name - it's a single DVD, so doesn't have a suffix of 1. I tried specifying the name to match my disk, but get the Folder not found message.
When I did the Leopard install, I customized to unselect the printer drivers that I don't need.
I don't really want to do another erase and install, and the update option won't fly because I have 10.5.1 update also installed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs. The equivalent for PowerPC Macs would be Virtual PC.

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard then Lion and the computer shut down after installation.
Now when it starts up it gets as far as the apple icon and then shuts down again
whenever I turn it on it loads that far and then closes.
    HELP!

Restore your bootable backup/clone  or Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard, launch Disk Utility from the install disc, repair the boot volume, and reinstall Lion.

  • Photosmart 7520 on wireless network no longer recognized by laptop

The printer was fully functional on my wireless network, accessible by phone, tablet & laptop. Now it is not recognized by the laptop but still usable by other devices through the wireless network. The laptop is Windows 7 professional. The laptop and printer are both on the same (only) wireless network. I uninstalled the printer and driver from the laptop, temporarily disabled Norton Antivirus, then tried to install a new driver but installation failed. I repeated the entire process again, with the same results. What else should I try?

    Hi @SaMi4,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Photosmart 7520 that is on a wireless network, is no longer recognized by your laptop. I am sorry to hear about this, but I am happy to help!
I would recommend this printing guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Windows 7.
You would also benefit from this guide, Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. As this will help you maintain the connection.
Hope this helps, and have a wonderful day!

  • TS2570 Disk no longer recognized in disk utility

    Long story.
I updated OS X to Lion 2 weeks ago on my Mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro and everything seemed to be in perfect order.  3 days ago, when I opened the Macbook to check my email, the screen was frozen.  No problem right?  Just reboot.  The only thing on the screen that moved was the mouse pointer.  Everything else was frozen, dock, menus, everything.  So I had to do a hard reboot using the On/Off button.  On reflashing, the system rebooted back into the OS but with stock wallpaper showing on screen and an error message.  I couldn't tell you what the message was as it only happened once and I immediatly rebooted again as that is a part of what the error message said to do.
From that point onwards, I never even got the startup chime on reboot and the gray screen with logo and gear was the only thing showing.  So I tried to boot into recovery and got the same thing, what I now call the gray screen of death.  Everytime I would try to reboot, I would have to shut down the thing with the On/Off button.  So after doing some reading on here, I successfully reset the NVRAM and now get the chime on startup...yay!  However, I still get the gray screen.
So in order to try something new, I put Lion on a DVD to use Disk Utility to figure out if maybe my hard drive was crapping out as I can't find my old Snow Leopard disk.  I successfully booted into the DVD and using Disk Utility was able to see the 120 GB Hitachi HD.  So I tried to repair the disk as I figured that was a problem.  Well, it seemed to work but for 24 hours straight, the progress bar was frozen at around 25% and nothiong happening.  *** Right?  I rebooted a few times and tried the Disk Utility but after a few trys, Disk Utility couldn't even see the disk as if there was no HD in the laptop.  Okay, so now I figure that for sure it had to be the Hard Drive and it crapped out.  So today I went and bought a new Seagate 320 GB 7200 RPM at Best Buy where the guy assured me that the drive would work in the Macbook.  I changed it out with no problems and when I rebooted to re-install Lion on the new disk, disk utility still shows that there is no HD in the laptop.  I'm frustrated.  And to top it all off, I cannot get the DVD Disk out of the drive.  Can somebody help me out here as I am at the end of my rope and considering making the Macbook into a MacFrisbee.

Just an update to yesterday.  I managed to get the DVD out of the superdrive by shaking it out while ejecting.  I put the old HD back in and still no dice with regards to making it show up in Disk Utility.  While opened up, everything seemed to be in order with nothing burnt or smelling burnt.  All connections seem to be in place.  I guess it's off to the repair shop for the laptop.

  • WRT120N no longer recognized by laptops

I'm not quite sure where the problem lies, so I'm going to go over everything that happened so I can hopefully get an answer. Any help is MUCH appreciated.
We were running a few laptops (Acer Aspire 5517 on Vista) off our WRT120N router wirelessly. We have it hooked up to a wireless modem. All signs show that the modem and router are running fine. The wireless network we were using, I'll call it Network-1, stopped showing up as an option in the wireless connect menu. Prior to this all the laptops could connect to Network-1 by wire or wirelessly without a problem. I don't know what happened to start the problem, but Network-1 is no longer a wireless network option.
When I wire a laptop to the router, it connects to the internet and says it's currently connected to Network-1. But when I try to connect the wireless network via a wired connection, the new network I set doesn't show up in the connection menu. When I try to set up the router again (while the computer is wired), I get the error message "Windows did not detect any wireless network hardware". So it seems that although I am able to get an internet connection through the router, the computer is not recognizing it.
One of the laptops is able to connect wirelessly through a different network (Network-2). It looks like Network-2 was set up automatically by the laptop. Another laptop has Network-2 as an option, but it says the network security key is wrong. I have no idea what the password might be, the computer where Network-2 works connects automatically, I haven't had to type a password. I'm not sure what happened here, if it's two different connections with the same name, or if it's the same thing. I don't even know if this is relevant.
Again, we would be SO grateful for any help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well i think due to some reason the wireless settings of your Router must have got resetted, that's the reason you are unable to see your wireless network name. So you need to Hardwired you computer to the Router and login to the router setup page and change the wireless settings of your Router.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Ipod Photo (20GB, 4th generation) no longer recognized by Laptop or Itunes

Hi, I'm having problems synchronizing my Ipod, cause neither my computer nor Itunes will recognize my Ipod anymore. I have tried restarting, resetting, reinstalling and all that and it didn't help.
When I connect my Ipod via USB, it is charging, but when I unplug and replug again not even the charging works (through my laptop).
Recently I've deleted most folders in the "Installer Cache" except for the two newest Itunes and Quicktime folders, cause the files were just taking up too much space - could it have something to do with that? Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dave,
thanks for replying. I don't think my problem is covered in those articles. I think it's rather connected to the "Installer Cache" files I've deleted. Anyway, I think I'll try deinstalling Itunes and restoring the Ipod, maybe that will help ...
Oh, one more clue: I've recently installed a GPS-device and it's still showing, although it's not plugged in. Could it be that that's the reason the USB-hub won't recognize my Ipod?

  • HT4718 yosemite recovery failed and disk no longer recognized

    Hi everyone,
I've installed yosemite, no problem at first time.... yesterday i've turn on mb pro, closed the notebook during boot time... ->error.
Now the OS don't start end still remain at middle loading, then I've tried the recover (command+R).
Well, the recovery don't see the disk, the disk utility can't repair the partition (activation point missing) and ther's no way to fix it...
Trashing disk is the only way?

    Hi Id0,
If Disk Utility reports errors that it is unable to repair, one of two things have occurred. In either case you will want to attempt to (ifyou have not already) back up any important files as soon as possible.
One way that may allow you to back up is to connect another Mac to this one and use Target Disk Mode. See this article -
OS X Mountain Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
Note that while the article title says Mountain Lion, the procedure is valid for other operating systems.
Once you have backed up your files as much as possible, you will want to erase the drive. See this article for how -
OS X: How to erase and install
If this succedes you can bring your data back from the other computer. If not, then the hard drive has failed physically and will need to be replaced.  You can contact Apple for this using information here -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPOD no longer recognized by iTunes after newest upgrade!!!!

I just upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. My IPOD is now not recognized by Itunes. I get this message: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software". I followed the instructions and I also downloaded the latest iPod updater software. Restarted the computer only to get the same message - OVER AND OVER.
I have never had this issue prior to downloading this newest upgrade. A patch or resolution is needed ASAP to fix this issue. People invest TOO MUCH money in these products for something silly like this to occur.

However, iTunes now want's me to update to a new version (1.4)!?! Should I do this or wait until Apple fixes 1.5?
    hi John!
hmmm. do you mean itunes 5.0.1.4? what version of itunes are you running currently? (just to be on the safe side, let's head into your itunes "help > about" and check to see precisely which version number scrolls up from the bottom.)

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?
iPod nano 1Gb (1st Gen I think)   Windows Vista

I got my ipod in May for my birthday and its worked pretty fine up until now. I went on holiday for two weeks to France where I went running everyday with my ipod and it worked fine but on the journey home in the car it wouldnt work and froze. Now it wont charge and is unrecognised on my pc and says that there are no drivers installed for this Device when it before worked fine. I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?

  • IPhone 4 no longer recognized by computer after turning off wifi sync

I've been having trouble with my brother's iPhone 4 syncing to our desktop computer. When I realized it was set for wifi sync I turned it off; now the computer won't even recognize the device. I know it's not the usb port because I've pluggen in other devices (GPS and memory sticks) and they all work just fine. The computer makes the sound when something connects when I plug in the iPhone but it doesn't appear anywhere or even register on the phone or the computer that it's plugged in. Can anyone help me out with this?
